Mail service not requiring SMTP Authentication

hello everyone,
I have been trying to find an answer and could not. I want my mail server to require SMTP Authentication. I have "CRAM-MD5" and "Login" checked in Server Admin -> Computers & Services -> Mail -> Advanced -> Security. Still, I can set up a mail account with any name and domain and SMTP through my server. (It does require a password for POP, so at least no one can read others folks mail)
I have begun to notice that I get many returned mails that I never sent, from accounts that are not on my server. So, I am thinking that spammers are relaying or just using my server to spam. I would like that to stop.
I have changed the configurations with Server Admin, stopped service, started service, and even restarted the whole server. Still, mail will not require SMTP Authentication.
Can anyone help me do this with Terminal or manually?

thanks, for any help in advance.

  • BLS Send Mail Action Block Requires SMTP Mail Server Mail Account

My SMTP Mail Server does NOT require authentication.  It appears as if MII Ver 12 requires a mail account to be filled in on the BLS Send Mail Action Block.  If the mail account field is left empty the transaction fails (error - mail account cannot be blank).  Transaction works without the mail account on Ver 11.5 but Ver 12 requires the field to filled in.  Please advise whether this is a new requirement in Ver 12 or a bug that needs to be addressed.

    Hi Sam,
What I think is, it requires one mail account to send the mail and one to receive it.
There is no restriction on receiver that can be anyone. But the sender needs to be known that some mail has been sent from his mail account. So may be because of this the added authentification is required. It will use that mail account to send the mails.

  • OSX MAIL SERVICE NOT SETTING MAIL AS READ

I have osx server with mail service enabled. I have numerous accounts setup and working correctly. I have two accounts which are not functioning correctly
when the user reads his email, the email registers as read on the computer, in his email client...however when the user reopens his email client, all the emails that he previously read reappears as being unread. I have setup these IMAP accounts on different computers and using different email clients.. and each computer and each client responds exactly the same way. How do I reset the accounts to accept email normally and recognize that mail is indeed read and tells the server the correct commands for this to happen....my email is [email protected], if anyone has a solution please help

Assuming you are using the default paths (if not adjust):
    cd into /var/imap/user/firstletterofusername/
You should see a list of files that look something like:
    username.seen
Make a copy and delete the one belonging to the user you have problems with.
    Use terminal, not Finder.

  • Mail Services not started

    Hello ALL,
yesterday I installed OCS 10.1.2 with exists DB 10.2.0.2 on RHEL 3 after that I stop whole OCS and did backup. And now I try start my OCS but Mail Services such as email_listserver,email_pop, email_smtp_in, email_smtp_out, not started.
    In lof files I found only one error : "((time 07/31/2007 13:42:12.358 MSD)(compclass oracle.mail.system.server.imap4srv)(compinst super.tradevisa.ru:um_system:imap:118579868319046952)(module

How I can resolve my issue and where I have to find it? In what log files?

I tried what you recommended and the mail that gets sent out when the cron job runs still goes to the Library/Server/Mail/Data/mail location.  When I checked the /Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix/main.cf it actually had the mail_spool_directory = /var/mail commented out.
I uncommented to see it would send mail to /var/mail but it did not work.  Am I missing something.  Another parameter somewhere. Any other suggestions on where I should look?
Any online documentation that would explain more about what happens when mail services is activated by the Server App?

  • Mail Service Not working

The iCloud service is down AGAIN!!!! And trying to tell apple theres a problem is virtually impossible. im not paying to tell you that the Mail service is Broken!!! I paid alot for this mac, the least you can do is ensure that mail runs correctly!!!! its dropping on a very regular bases.

    Hello;
Ive had exactly same problem and here is the solution.
ignore all that Microsoft updates, some how your e-mail cliant of Nokia is demaged and you have to reload it.
    http://www.nokia.com/gb-en/support/troubleshooting/?action=singleFAQ&caseid=FA139943_en_US
This is the page and download the email client and upload it on your phone,
    all will be well.
This is how Ive fixed mine.
    Good Luck!

  • Mail service not saving changes

We have a Xserve with Snow leopard (10.6) and we have dovecot installed. We want to serve IMAP. According to mail it is on. Whenever we make any changes to the mail service in Server Admin and press save the values revert back to what they were (so no accepting the new values). We do not get any errors and we have checked the logs but nothing suggests why this has happened.
    Any idea's?
Alternatively, is there anyone here really familiar with DoveCot that we could speak to? or any companies to contact?
All we want to do is run/host our own IMAP mailserver.
    Thanks in advance,
    ~Luke

Since this issue does't seem to be Xserve specific I would suggest posting in the specific Mail discussion group.

You'll get more eyes on your issue in that group.

  • I wish to use my present e-mail service, not adobe how do I over-ride it.

I wish to use my present e-mail provider, how do I over-ride adobe mail

    Hi,
Which operating system are you running on?
If it is a Windows system you need to have an email client running like Outlook (32bit version) or Windows Live Mail. Either of those should be able to link to your current e-mail service. The alternative is to use the Adobe e-mail client but there are problems when trying to link it to your email service.

  • E5 will receive POP mail, but NOT send SMTP

I have a really baffling problem. I am trying to set up my own domain email with my device and I can get it to receive POP mail perfectly using my service providers details, but I can't get it to send mail with the SMTP detail (which I've checked are right and which work in my iPad)
I've sent it to port 25, and I am at my wits end, any suggestions., I am using a pop server from a different service provider but it shouldn't make any difference should it...??
ANy advice sought, thanks in advance

Hi Chip: I suspect that the wireless connection you are using is not the same internet provider you were using previously. Is this correct? Most, if not all Internet Service Providers do not permit sending from a different "SMTP' server. This would definitely cause the issue you are seeing

  • Mail services not working

After upgrading to 2.0, none of my e-mail accounts will send or recieve. I have verified all account settings and tried both push and fetch modes and even created a new exchange server accont, but still no e-mails! Any help?

I am having the same problem. If I power the iPhone off and power it back on, it will check email *one time* but will never connect to send or receive email again. It spins endlessly, displaying either the message "connecting" or "checking mail" but never managing to do either. I have my mail forwarded to a gmail account and have put a Safari link to gmail mobile services on my desktop, so I can check and verify that the mail is there, but the iPhone is now worthless for quick and easy built-in email connection--one of the main reasons I bought it.
I have deleted my imported email accounts and recreated them all on the iPhone, but it's still displaying the same behavior.

  • Configure for no smtp authentication

    Hi all,
    I have one machine (192.168.0.10)
    I have domain a.com, b.com and c.com.
    1. Is it possible to configure messaging server without needing SMTP authentication when this machine (192.168.0.10) sent the email out?
    2. I also want to limit above IP address sending (with no SMTP authentication) to only domain c.com. Is it possible technically?
Following is my messaging server version:
    # ./imsimta version
Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 6.2-7.05 (built Sep 5 2006)
    libimta.so 6.2-7.05 (built 12:18:44, Sep 5 2006)

    1. Is it possible to configure messaging server without needing SMTP authentication when this machine (192.168.0.10) sent the email out?Yes, you can add the IP address of the machine to the INTERNAL_IP mapping table. This will cause any emails coming from that machine to be regarded as "INTERNAL" (tcp_intranet source channel) and will not require SMTP authentication to relay emails.
    e.g.
    INTERNAL_IP
       $(192.168.0.10/32)     $Y
    2. I also want to limit above IP address sending (with no SMTP authentication) to only domain c.com. Is it possible technically?Yes, you can achieve this with a ORIG_MAIL_ACCESS mapping table rule e.g.
    ORIG_MAIL_ACCESS
! Deny access to any addresses except *@c.com
      TCP|*|25|192.168.0.10|*|SMTP*|MAIL|tcp_*|*|*|*@c.com      $Y
TCP|*|*|192.168.0.10|*|SMTP*|MAIL|tcp_*|*|*|*@* $NAccess$ Denied$ for$ domain$ $8Note that both of these steps were already outlined in the manual:

  • SMTP authentication problem

I try to send mail with a Javamail client code (you can see the code below), it works fine if the mail server doesn't require SMTP authentication to be relay, but SendFailedException occurs if the mail server security setting is set to SMTP requires authentication (same settings as POP usr/pwd) on the mail server.
I believe it is an issue of SMTP authentication.
How do I code for SMTP authentication with Java Mail API?

This is one of those error messages that they send application programmers to school for so that they can include error messages that don't tell you what the problem is.
After much trial and error, I discovered that this message is returned if there is an error in the recipient's email address. Perhaps, if it was stored in the address book, it became corrupt. I've found that manually typing in the address (without automatically finishing it from cache) usually fixes the problem. I just spoke to a customer this morning with the same error message, and entering the recipient's email address manually corrected the problem.

  • CFMAIL SMTP authentication with CF5

I need to use CFMAIL to send email notifications via an
exchange server. The issue: the server is running CF 5 and the
exchange server requires SMTP authentication. As you may all know,
there's no way to pass a username and password in CF5.
So my question is, is there a module available for CF5 that
    will achieve similar results.
    Sadly I can't upgrade to CF MX 6, 7 or 8.

It's been quite a while since I worked with CF 5, but you can
try setting up the mail server address like this:
    username:[email protected]
On a side note, is there any reason why you (or the client)
are not considering an upgrade? I mean, I think HTTP 1.1 was still
    the standard when 5 was released - it's about 40 "
technology years" old now. *just wondering*
