Changing the folder icon
I'm trying to change the folder icon for the Pictures folder. But, when I do, the Pictures icon on the left of the window also changes and becomes the same as the Pictures folder icon. I want the two of them to be different but can't seem to figure it out.

If you really want to get into it, changing application icons, most of them are separate .icns files within the application package.
For example, the Finder icon is
/System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/Resources/Finder.icns
When you select Finder.app-Ctrl-click and choose show package contents to dig further down.
Most of the other standard icons used by the Finder are in the same Resources folder.
If you install the Developer Tools package from the MacOS X Install DVD, you can use the Icon Composer to apply and save your own icons to pretty much anything.
!!< Just be sure to back up before and Repair Permissions afterwards >!!

Change the folder icon "properly"! not by "Get Info." window.
Hello everyone, I was wondering what is the way of changing the folder's icon "properly"? I don't mean the copy/paste of the icon in the "Get Info." window. Because whan I do that, the icon changes but the problem is when I press the Space Bar for "Quick View" it doesn't show an icon. So that's is why I thought there was another method.
p.s. System folders and drives show their custom icons with "Quick View"
Thanks, this is one of the small (pointless) bugs that tick me off...
RegardsSorry to tell you, but all that is totally unnecessary. Just do what Baltwo said but I'm sure that instead of "Open the app" he meant to write:
• "Quit from the app, Control-click (right-click) its icon" and choose "Show Package Contents". (That's what Baltwo really meant by "open"! )
• In "Resources" find the .icns that the app is currently using and - keeping the same name - replace it with yours (saved as an icns of course).
You can leave the app's original icns in the "Resources" folder (just in case you ever need it) as long as you change its name, e.g. add "BAK" to the name. It will do no harm sitting there.

Re colouring lables... can this apply to the folder icon itself
re coloring lables... can this somehow change the folder icon itself or only the lettering underneath?
That only changes the text label color. You can change icons yourself if you want...

How can i change the default icon of a new folder?
what i mean is like every time i create a new folder instead of changing the icon after its created, can i somehow change the default icon on a new folder i create? so when i create a new folder its created with the icon i want it to have?
and i want to do it manually i dont want to use programs for it

i know but i dont want to use candy bar, were do i go to do it manually?
why not? use LiteIcon then. it's free and is MUCH safer than mucking with system files by hand. if you insist you can do it as follows. go to /system/library/coreservices. control-click on coretypes.bundle and select "show package contents". go to contents-> resources. change the file GenericFolderIcon.icns with your own .icns file. back up the original bundle first. -
How can I change colour or design to the folder icons in Mail ?
How can I change colour or design to the folder icons in Mail ?
Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

Is there an apple script to change all my folder icons at once? I like the folder icons available for download from Apple's website, but don't want to go through the process of pasting the new icons in for every single folder.
ThanksHi RevChris, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Hopefully someone will drop in with script or Automator ides, I think it's likely, but I use CandyBar...

how can I change the desktop icon for an external hard drive. Using LaCies and Dimple hard drives.
One of the things I've found with OS X (at least with Snow Leopard, which is my first excursion into OS X), is that all too often the thumbnail displayed on a file, whether a file created or one downloaded, is a false thumbnail. That is, when you do a Get Info on the file the icon in the upper left is the generic icon for that file type, rather than the thumbnail displayed in Finder. Makes it a bit difficult to copy.
Apparently Finder uses Preview in the background to generate the displayed thumbnail without actually creating one.
What I've resorted to doing, particularly with graphic images, is to process them with GraphicConverter - I have its prefs set to automatially add thumbnails and previews. With an individual file this means opening it in GC and doing a Save As. However, a much easier and faster way is when there are two or more such files; I put them in a common folder and drop the folder onto GC. GC then opens them in a catalog view, in the process adding real thumbnails and previews to each automatically. Doesn't take long to do several hundred files that way. -
Can I change the Firefox icon permanently?
I've been trying to change the Firefox/Nightly icons to a custom icon that will show in the taskbar. I've tried using resource hacker to fix it, but after I restart my computer or wait long enough the changes will disappear and the icons will go back to normal.
The icon for the firefox.exe in the programs will change to the icons I want once I use resource hacker, but when I turn my computer back on they go back to the default ones. Is there a way to change the icon "permanently" and still be able to change it back when I want it back?
Thanks.Change it as you would any taskbar icon:
# Right-click the Nightly icon on the taskbar.
# In the menu that pops up, right-click Nightly and choose Properties.
# In the Properties window, click the Shortcut tab.
# Click the Change Icon button, select your custom icon and click the OK button.
# Click the OK button to close the Properties window.
# If Nightly is currently running, you'll may need to exit and restart it for the change to take effect.
There's a way to change the application icon in Firefox, but it won't affect much. If you've already done the above, then in current versions of Windows it'll probably only affect the icon shown in the Alt+Tab application switcher.
Name your icon ''main-window.ico'' and place it in the following folder. The folder doesn't exist by default and must be created manually.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Nightly\browser\chrome\icons\default
Don't tamper with any Firefox installation files, the executable in particular. -
To change the TOC icons for books and pages
I want to change the TOC icons for books and pages.
How I do this?
ThankHi Christine and welcome to our community
Even in traditional WebHelp output, these are simple images.
I just created a non-skinned output to check. I'm using X5 and in
this version you should be able to find the following images:
* Closed book should be: whd_toc1.gif
* Open book should be: whd_toc2.gif
* Page should be: whd_toc3.gif
So if you want to influence changes to these, you would find
them in your output folder and simply replace (using the same file
name) with the image(s) of your choice.
Cheers... Rick -
I just got my Ipad2 and have my email accounts set up. I have sent messages but when I go to the folder icon at the top right of the page and tap on SENT emails it makes the inbox email on the screen disappear. How do you check your sent emails? Thanks for your help.
You can send over WiFi, but it sounds as if you need to setup your Gmail account, or did you do this already?

I've just installed Firefox4 for Mac (OS 10.6.7) and can no longer see all my bookmark folders at once across the top -- because the folder icons make the Bookmarks Bar too wide. Yet, I like the icons on the other bars, so I don't want to turn them off globally. Is there a way to just lose the folder icons -- which don't appear to serve a purpose anyway?
Small correction to original post. Machine is an iMac 2.4ghz Intel Core 2 Duo. (I was at home when I made the first post.) But the bookmarks menu behavior still exists today and FF 5 is essentially unusable.
System details next to the post are not for machine with the bug in question.
Found a copy of FF4 to use until a solution is found. Turned off automatic updates to preserve this version. -
How do I change the weather icon to my local weather?
I am new to iPhone and have 2 questions:
1. How do I change the wether icon from Cupertino and New York to local weather?
2. How do I remove icons from the home page that came already installed? I tried pressing and holding until they vibrate but no 'X" appears to delete them.
Thanks!1. How do I change the wether icon from Cupertino and New York to local weather?
Select the i circle icon at the bottom right.
Select the + icon at the top right to add a city. Select the red - icon next to a city on the list to remove a city.
Select the icon at the far right of each city to move that city up of down on the list.
Select Done at the top right when finished.
2. How do I remove icons from the home page that came already installed? I tried pressing and holding until they vibrate but no 'X" appears to delete them.
The default icons cannot be removed. The default icons will not have an X to remove them. Only user created web clippings will have the X and can be removed. -
How do I change the "trash" icon to "archive" icon in email on my iPhone using iOS7?
How do I change the "Trash" icon to "Archive" icon as the default setting in email using iPhone iOS7?
That is very much dependent on your Email account.
Go to Settings->Mail,Contacts,Calendars->Accounts->Your Account->Account->Advanced->Move Discarded Messages Into.
Choose Archive Mailbox.
It may not be there if its not supported by your email provider. -
