Changing url links in SWF

Hello,
I am restyling a website as a favour for someone. The person
has a swf file in the website in which there are two links to
specific pages in his website.
The swf file (and website) are rather old and the person does
not have the original flash for the swf anymore.
Is there a way in which i can change the url's in the SWF
file?

Okay, I got a hold of the original FLA file, so luckily i did
not have to mess with conversion software.
In the original FLA i cannot seem to find hardcoded URL's.
I have noticed on the server on which the site is currently
running a file called links.txt. Inside this file i read:
&text1=products&
&url1=products.php&
&text2=home&
&url2=index.html&
&text3=events&
&url3=events.php&
&ready=all done
-----eof links.txt----
these urls' events.php, products.php and index.html
correspond to where the SWF buttons link.
I have tried filling in other urls in this txtfile but to no
luck.
How can i tell if this is the original url file that is being
used by the SWF? Can i see this in Flash (i.e. in the FLA file)?
Sorry I havn't used Flash in over 9 years.

How to change URL/link in cFolders email notification

We are on cFolders 4.5 accessed via Enterprise Portal. When a notification is generated (either manually or via a status transition), the email contains a URL link related to the cfolder object the notification pertains to. This URL points to the cFolders BSP application. How do we point this to the portal? We want all user to access cFolders via the portal and not BSP. Any way to achieve this?

Url links in swf work in standalone, but not when opened in browser

I am currently using flash to create an electronic press kit.
In that, i have 2 links to youtube (since embedding the videos was
not an option, making the file too large), and one link to
yousendit for the viewer to be able to download a pdf file.
Now when i open the swf by double clicking on it (which i can
do, but when on another computer, that has flash player installed,
the swf will not open unless opened through a browser....not sure
if that is just something where you can open an swf strictly by
itself only if you actually have flash or what....that is another
issue), but anyways, when i open the swf by itself, the links work
correctly. once opened through a browser, the links do not work.
Safari error:
Adobe flash player has stopped a potentially unsafe
operation.

(location of swf on harddisk)
is trying to communicate with this internet-enabled location:
youtube.com
To let this application communicate with the internet, click
SETTINGS.

Of course i did that, and it didnt happen.
My question is however, even if this is a simple security
issue/setting within the browser, is there any way to get around
this? Because when sending this press kit out, the last thing i
want is for the viewer to have to take the time to change their
browser settings and try to get this to work and all that stuff.

The reason the swf doesn't open up by itself on other
computers is that it needs a Stand Alone Flash Player to do so.
Most people have the Flash plug-in for their browsers, but not the
stand alone player. If you are sending it out as a self contained
file you need to make a Projector file. It contains the SA + swf in
one file, which adds weight. Also, you need to make a Windows one
and and a Mac one. If you are using CS3, I think you can make a
Abobe AIR app that is universal, granted you install the free AIR
plug-in controlls for Flash ( I THINK. My knowlege is not totally
up to date) .
As for the links not working in the browser, its seems like
they should work. Your posted link for the file is broken, so
couldn't see. What is your code for the buttons? Are you calling
JavaScript in your html page? I've had problem with that usually a
syntax error or IE.

Open a URL link in the same window as SWF file in indesign CS5

Hello,
I am trying to create a SWF file using indesign CS5. I have created buttons and placed in URL links but they always open another window. I would like to know if there is a way to have the URL open in the same window that the SWF file has been created. I tried, putting "_self" to target it in the URL bar, but nothing works.

Okay, I found the code but I can't get it to work locally. If you have a web server maybe you can upload the files (swf and html) after you Publish them:

you have to have on the stage a link element called "testlink" (see the code above) which would be a Movie Clip with the label testlink. It can be anything from InDesign: a button, a rectangle, a circle, a graphic, you get the idea. Just select that object in Flash and label it testlink or anything you choose but if you change the name from testlink also change the name in the code snippet where the line "addEventListener" is.

Setting URL link outside of SWF

Hi there
I'm working on some banner ads for a client to send out to
some of their customers to use on their own websites. However, in
each case the customer will need their version of the ad to link to
a specific page on their site. Rather than requesting a change each
time an ad is sent out Is it possible to set up a button in the
flash file that uses a url link defined in an external xml file?
The thinking is that the customer can be sent the swf file along
with the xml file and they simply change the url defined in the xml
file to their own preference. I have very little knowledge of
actionscript or xml so would appreciate some guidance if it is
possible.

Either way will work, it's just a matter of how you want to
go about it. If you use XML then you have an additional file that
your clients will have to deal with; if you use the flash vars,
then this can be added to the html page, in t he <param> tags
where the actual .swf is located.

Can I create more than one URL link in a single Flash (SWF) file?

I created a simple SWF slideshow in Flash with 5 slides. I was able to link one URL to the whole file by adding an alpha button.
What I can't figure out is how to add a URL link to each slide. The SWF file i sused on a website and I would like to be able to click on a particular slide as it is playing to go the a site or page that applies to that slide.
Is there a way or code I can use to do this??

You cannot duplicate instance names or function names, so you'll need to create unique names for each one that behaves differently. So you can only have one function named "mouseClick"... if you want to have another function to link somewhere else you need to create a new name for that function ("mouseClick2" would work)
There are alternate approaches, but for now this will be the easiest for you to deal with.

someone on this forum that has more brains than the online chat support do?
I have been trying for 4 days to get someone to find out why the change credit card details URL link is missing from my manage account area. Mail - url link color changes in mail signature

Hello all,
I've just tested a new signature, created in mail. In it, I use a couple of custom colors to match our company colors. Looks great.
However, when I send it out to myself to test, my email info in the signature [email protected] and our webiste url www.ddddddd.com change to the standard blue URL link color upon receipt.
I'd like folks to see them in the company colors and not as that ugly blue.
How can I accomplish this?

Directly you can use Http://www.sap.com in the email body, then it will come as link in the Body of the email

There is no option to do that.
The user has to change the TEXT SIZE option for the browser. I guess there is no other way.

URL Link to Specific SWF Slide

Is it possible once a Captivate 2 project has been exported
to HTML/SWF to have a URL link open the SWF file to a specific
slide number? For example if a Captivate 2 project is 20 slides
long, the user could click a link that would open the swf file to a
specific slide in the middle, say slide 10. Or can the html coding
that opens the Captivate 2 exported SWF file be set to open the
file to a specific slide? I am trying to avoid breaking up a multi
scene file just so users can access one or two slides and not have
to navigate through an entire file.

It's pretty simple to do with JavaScript actually and Philip Hutchison just released the latest version of his "Captivate Controller" a couple of days ago.
This allows you to control Captivate 2,3 & 4 movies from JavaScript commands in a simple and non-technical way.

What is the proper way to change a url link?

I need to tell DW to change all url links (on all pages) going to an old url to a new url. What is the proper way to do this? thanks.

Did you even read my reply properly?
'Defining a site' in DW has everything to do leveraging most functionality with FUNDAMENTALS of DW usage.
'Change links sitewide' is an option within DW that will change links across sites by replacing an old link with a new - for DW to do this for more than just ONE FILE in your site, DW has to know what other files make up your site. This is why 'Defining a site' is critical.
If you do feel otherwise, please go ahead and wait for somebody else (an expert) to post his views on this. Let's see what they have to say.
Either which way, I really think you should change your attitude while posting on this forum. That will not only help you, but all of us here.

You need to embed the url link within the swf itself. The way
I used to
do it was draw a transparent button over the whole aera of
the swf and
attached the url to that. Get_url I think.
I can't exactly remember the steps to produce the results but
that the
direction you should be lookin in. Maybe ask on the Flash
forum for
specific steps.

Any solution for swf file without url link embedded?

As a long shot just thought I would ask.
Received a swf file which needs to be linked to a url address BUT the company that produced it has not embedded the link in the .fla file!!!!!
In the past I seem to remember there is not a way to link the swf via html or maybe so but only via javascript or some complex solution. Is this still the case or has someone found an elegant solution to the issue in recent times?

I know it's a relatively simple procedure to add a getURL frame to the .fla file as I done it myself in the past. Not sure why whoever did it hasn't included the link as it's an advert to attract people to a certain url.

On a webpage, how do you change a text based email address to an URL link?

I use to have an add-on that would take email addresses displayed as text in webpages display them as URL link. When I would click the URL link, it would open a new email message. What is the name of this add-on or how do I get this feature working in my browser again?

I don't recall using one, but I have heard about add-ons that "linkify" any URL in the page so it is clickable. Maybe they would also "linkify" an email address?
As a workaround, you could use bookmarklet. That's a script which you save as a bookmark so you can click the bookmark when you want to run it. Here's how:
(1) Select and copy the following script (it's actually one long line):
<code>javascript:var eml=window.getSelection(); window.location.href="mailto:"+eml; void 0;</code>
(2) Right-click a convenient location on your Bookmarks Toolbar or Bookmarks Menu and choose New Bookmark.
(3) Paste the script into the Location field. Then in the name field, you can type mailto or any name you like.
(4) Click the Add button
Here's an example for testing. Select the email address using the mouse:

Then click the bookmark. Success?
