How do I change the visual attribute of a mutirecord item , before it shows, e.g. showing negative items as red and positive as blue.

You can use set_item_instance property for this purpose . This is an example from Developer help manual

I need to change the value of a text item in a multi record block based on a change to another item's value in the same block.
Suppose there's a text item in a multi record block called dt1 which is of type date, which is changed in a particular record. I want to change the values of the another item in the same multi record block, for all other records by running a loop through all the records in multi record block. Changing colors of individual records in multi-record block

Can any point me to where I should place the code to programmatically change the color of a record in a multi-record block based on a particular column value?
For instance, if block.col1='OPEN', I'd like the entire row to display as BLUE. If block.col1='CLOSED', I'd like the entire row to display as RED. I've tried placing my code at the block POST_QUERY level and WHEN_NEW_RECORD instance level without success.
I'm a relative forms newbie, so any advice would be appreciated.

I tried putting it in the 'when new record instance' trigger but it did not work completely. I put them same code in the Post_Query trigger of the multiple record block along with the 'When new record instance' trigger and it worked perfectly.
I'm not forms expert, and there's probably a reason why I needed to put it in two places to make it work for me but that's a question of a forms expert.

How to change the Height of item....!!!! in multi record block

Here is the problem I want to change one item height in multiple records block..
I tried to do the following
set_item_instance_property(:system.mouse_item,:system.current_record,height,50);
But this didn't work as the property for height couldn't be used with this built in..
Can any one tell me any other suggestion to move around

If you just have two sizes to display - e.g. normally the item is 1 line high but in the current item you want to show more information and want to make it say 2 lines high, then you can use a Mirror item to do this.
Create another item in the block - set the Synchronize With Item property to the base item you want to "Resize".
Set the Records Displayed property to 1 for this extra field.
Put this field on a stacked canvas that is just big enough to hold it.
The in your When-New-Record Instance trigger you can pop the stacked canvas up over the normal version of the field.
That should do the trick.

Setting background color in multi record block

Hi all!
I've a table with around 150 records of colors with html-color-names and rgb codes.
I would like to have a sample item in my form 9.0.4 to display the color as a preview for
each record in a multi-record block when querying the table.
I would not like to create a visual attribute for each color. So display_item() is no choice.
(except: somebody show me how to create va's with the japi)
Somebody knows a way to accomplish this?

Here's a solution which should work :
1. Use a mirror item for the numeric item which has to
be displayed
using the format mask based on value in column1
The data type of the mirror item : Char
X and Y co-ordinates : Same as the item
on which it is
mirrored
Size and Height : Same as the item
on which it is
mirrored
2. On normal display, Mirror item is displayed
3. When Mouse-Click or Pre-Text Item trigger on the
Mirror Item :
- Use the Go_Item ('Actual Numeric Item');
This will bring up the Numeric Item and the Mirror
item goes in hiding
- A VWI trigger on Numeric Item should Then be :
If ( :col1 = 'A' ) Then
:Mirror_Item :=
To_char(:NumericItem, ',999,999.99');
Else
:Mirror_Item :=
To_char(:NumericItem, '99999999');
End If;
4. A key-Next-Item (On Numeric Item) or other trigger ??
should then

Disabling a button in a multi record block

Hi everyone,
I have a multi record block with a button on each record, I have to be able to disable a button at runtime (following some conditions).
the SET_ITEM_INSTANCE_PROPERTY (item, record, enabled, property_false) does not work !
Any idea on how can I do it ?

I don't think "enabled" is a valid property for SET_ITEM_INSTANCE_PROPERTY. You were probably thinking of SET_ITEM_PROPERTY but this won't work for you at the record level.
The only thing I can think of right off hand is to set the visual attribute using SET_ITEM_INSTANCE_PROPERTY to make each button look enabled or disabled. You could define 2 visual attributes, say something like VA_BUTTON_ENABLE and VA_BUTTON_DISABLE.
If you want the button to look enabled then:
SET_ITEM_INSTANCE_PROPERTY(item, record, visual_attribute, 'VA_BUTTON_ENABLED'');
If you want the button to look disabled then:
SET_ITEM_INSTANCE_PROPERTY(item, record, visual_attribute, 'VA_BUTTON_DISABLED');
Then, in your WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED trigger, look at the visual attribute for that record using the GET_ITEM_INSTANCE_PROPERTY, and if the visual attribute is VA_BUTTON_ENABLED then execute your button code otherwise don't do anything.
Give it a try and see if that works for you.

How to convert a puch button disabled in a multi record block?

Hi!
I have a multi-record block and I need to set some specific item to disabled.
I tried using set_item_instance_property with the following sentence:
set_item_instance_property('INAF_ESC.EEAS_TIPO' ,CURRENT_RECORD, ENABLED , PROPERTY_FALSE);
but it didn´t work.
Anyone have any idea?

Hi,
ENABLED is not supported SET_ITEM_INSTANCE_PROPERTY built-in.
If you are env. has no mouse enabled, you can disable NAVIGABLE property using above builtin.
There is a way make the end-user to feel like it is disabled.
Create a visual attribute DISABLE_VA, with colors simillar to disabled buttion and set thie DISABLE_VA when the conditon is failed.
Inside the button-pressed trigger check whether the conditon is true or false. If the conditon is failed you simply do nothing.

How can I create a loop in a multi-record block (on the background)

I have a multi-record block.
In one item I change a value.
Upon this change, in the when-validate-item I would like to
change other records in the same block.
I planned to loop the block with go_record and to do my things
in each record. Unfortunately the go_record built-in is
restricted and cannot be used in a wvi-trigger.
Another approach can be to update the records in the database
and to perform an execute_query after this change. Also this
procedure cannot be used in a wvi.
How can I easily loop in a multi-record block???

You can try to put loop with go_record in KEY-NEXT-ITEM on that
field.
Or if you change something and then press KEY-COMMIT you can
update another records in database and after commit do again
execute_query. Something like :
on KEY-COMMIT:
update_another_records;
commit_form;
execute_query;

Get next value in a Multi Record Block

I've a Multi Record block with 2 items like below.
pos width
1 7
8 5
13 5
18 2
ie pos in next item is sum of pos and width of previous item.I've already implemented this.
The problem is if the user changes width in a particular record,I want to change next records pos automatically.
To achieve this,I wrote a when-new-record -instance-trigger as follws:
if :system.cursor_record=1 then
:pos:=1;
elsif :system.record_status='changed' then
:pos:=:pos+:width;
end if;
but even Though I change column width of block,:system.record_status still remain 'INSERT'.
Pls can u pls tell me how can I acheive this?

You cannot use Record Status like that.
You need to create a procedure that loops through your entire block, keeping track of the pos and width of the prior record to calculate the new pos of each record.
Your procedure would need to do something like this:
Declare
    v_Pos pls_integer := 1;
Begin
Go_block('B1');
First_Record;
Loop
    Exit when :System.record_status='NEW';
    :B1.pos := v_Pos;
    v_Pos := v_Pos + :B1.width;
    Exit when :System.last_record = 'TRUE';

Oracle Forms - need to update multi-record block - Help needed asap

We are using Oracle apps release 11i - Oracle forms 6i.
I have a field "project_start_date" in project_block in a custom form. There is another multi-record block called role_block in the same custom form and it has a field named start_date. Requirement is when ever I make change in the project_start_date in project_block, that should reflect in role_block.start_date. I tried different means and could update only the very first record of the multi-record block - role_block. I need to update all the records in the role_block with the same project_start_date. Used looping and several other methods. But could not achieve. Any help is really appreciated.

In your case I see no reason to use non-database block and to try to populate it from a trigger with a query, instead of using the default forms functionality where you can associate the block and the fields with table, create where clause using bind variables and simply use execute_query() build-in to populate the block. The power of the forms is to use their build-in functionality to interact with the database.
Also, you can base your block on a query, not on a table and you dynamically change this query using set_block_property() build-in. You can use any dynamic queries (based on different data sources) and you simply need to control the column's data type, the number of the columns and their aliases. Something like creating inline views as a block data source.
However, you can replace the explicit cursor with implicit one like
go_block('non_db_block_name');
first_record();
FOR v_tab IN (SELECT *
FROM tab
WHERE col_name = :variable)
LOOP
:non_db_block_name.field1 := v_tab.col1;
:non_db_block_name.field2 := v_tab.col2;

I have a multi record group on the canvas, which displays 5 records at a time. The block is based on a table. All the items, except 3 items are displayed items.Now in the block I have a list item, in which I have two values "PO" and "TSF".. If user selects PO, associated text items will get enabled and user will be entering the values .. Same is the case with TSF .. And at the end user selects Ok button to save the record to the database
Now while fetching the records (based on query) ..once the records are fetched, control will be on PO/TSF list box, now the user can either change PO to TSF or TSF to PO ..or he/she may opt not to change also.. If user changes PO to TSF, only that particular record's TSF fields should get enabled .. The problem what I am facing is, when the control comes to PO/TSF list box.. since its multi record block, all the record's PO/TSF list box are getting enabled
In the sense, if control is in the 1st record of multi record block, only those fields should get enabled, once the user navigates to the text item which is the last of that particular record, then 2nd record should get enabled....
Can I know the solution

ur case explanation should be in points 1,2,etc as possible leaving extra lines and spaces in between .. and the case should be more clear and summarized like:
1- I have multi-records data block.
2- I have a static list item with 2 values eg. (a and b).
3- Depending on selecting from the list some items r enabled.etc.
Kindly note that, this will facilitate ur problem to be more readable,recognizable and save time and effort of someone who wants to help u.

The problem what I am facing is, when the control comes to PO/TSF list box.. >since its multi record block, all the record's PO/TSF list box are getting enabled i think with the piece of code i have just posted to u this can't be happened since it disable all the record's PO/TSF.
if this didn't solve ur problem i suggest either u post ur code to help u or u try to put some validations with :
if statment inside the loop depending on the list item's values which will enable or disable related items to the list.

Changing visual attribute in Enter Query mode

Hello, I want to change visual attribute of all items in the first record when the user presses button for Enter_Query. I want that the user sees that the form is in enter query mode and it "waits" for the input of criteria. My code (copied from Help and modified) in trigger WHEN_BUTTON_PRESSED:

The problem is that enter_query stops executing your procedure until
another action ist started by the user.
You must create a short-time timer before issuing enter_query and set
your colour scheme in the when-timer-expired-trigger.

ToolTip_Text not working in multi - record block - Please Help!!

I'm using Forms Version 6.0.8.21.3 (due to many reasons) in C/S mode. Now I have a multi record block in which I am showing the Employee No. My customer's requirement is when I place the mouse on this Emp no., the emp. name must be displayed. I thought of achieving this by ToolTip_text. For this I'm having a Database function which returns the name (as I use this functionality in many forms), in the When-New-Item-Instance block level trigger I'm calling that function with passing the emp code as below
SET_ITEM_PROPERTY(:SYSTEM.CURSOR_ITEM, TOOLTIP_TEXT, FUNC_DIS_EMP_NAME(:SYSTEM.CURSOR_VALUE));But it is working only when I point the mouse in the first record. When I click on 3 or 4 record and then point to the first record, I'm getting the 3 record's name but in the first record.
Please help me - I searched through the forum and I find no accurate answer. It is urgent - please help.

Actually I'm having a multi record block in which all the emp no., days of attendance, etc will be displayed when I click on the search button. My requirement is when point the mouse over the emp no, the emp name must be displayed as a Tool tip text. My fields are non-editable, so Post-Change is not working. I placed the coding in the When-new-item-instance - in this case the emp name is displayed, but only for the first field, when I move the mouse to second and third fields, the empname of that particulart field is displayed as a tool tip but in the first field only.
Any other suggestions?

Enabling and disabling the button in the multi record block

i am using
Forms [32 Bit] Version 6.0.8.24.1 (Production)
Oracle Database 10g Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production
i have a multi record block each block contains a button(button is to approve the record in terms of changing the status)
i have the items like date,remarks and button
the button should be enabled if the remarks is not null otherwise it should be disabled.
for this in pre-record trigger i have written
if :record is null then
   set_item_property('button',enabled,property_false);
else
      set_item_property('button',enabled,property_false);
end if;what problem is enable and disable is impacting on all the buttons in the block. in other words if first record's remarks is null then all the records button is disabled. if first record's remarks column is not null then all the records of the button column is enabled.
i have to make enable and disable the button for the corresponding record.that means if first record's remarks column is not null then only first records button should be enabled others should be disabled.

You need to set the No. of items displayed to 1 as Ammad had said, additionally you can set the X and Y Position (Just Y will do and having fixed X) of the button depending upon the current record.
can u explain this part alone bit more (setting the position of x and y)You need to calculate the variable Y_POS depending upon the current position of the cursor that is the current record.
You can find the current record Y_POS using combination of
V_CURRENT_RECORD := :SYSTEM.CURSOR_RECORD;
V_TOP_RECORD := GET_BLOCK_PROPERTY ('BLOCK_NAME', TOP_RECORD);
V_ITEM_Y_POS := GET_ITEM_PROPERTY ('ITEM_NAME', Y_POS);
