Character value truncated in ALV display
Hi,
We are using DISPLAY() method in class CL_SALV_TABLE to display the ALV output. One of the field in internal table that is being used contains more than 400 characters. But in the output, it is displaying not more than 255 characters. Can you please help me find out why this is happening? Where can I check the output length of the fields? I checked in atribute R_COLUMNS. But it is not showing there.
Thanks.
The max length of an alv field is 255 char. So you can't display more than 255 char in an alv field.

Leading zero for a character datatype field in ALV display
I have field access sequence value(VAKEY) which is concatenated by sales org, distibution chnl and division
(0100/01/01). the field is populating proprerly in internal tables, but in ALV display it is displaying as 100/01/01. How to consider leading zero in ALV for a CHAR datatype field.
Thanks in Advance.Hi Srnii,
You can use the below sample statement
Shift mara-matnr right deleting trailing ' '.
overlay mara-matnr with '0000000'.

Reading fields from ALV display
Hi All,
I have a check box in front of each data record in the ALV display. This check box is editable. The user will check some records after seeing the details and click on a puch button provided. On the click of this button I need to read all the records whose check box has been checked.
However, this edited value of check box is not getting reflected in the program. Is there any FM or any other method through which I can read the changed values in the ALV display ??
Request your urgent help.
Thanks and Regards,
Archana.Hi ,
Please see this example program - BCALV_EDIT_05
I am sure this will help you.
If u have used standard ALV function module(REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY) instead of class cl_gui_alv_grid , then you can set layout and fieldcatalog accordinglly.
dont forget to add filed
checkbox type c.
in your display table (itab).
fieldcatalog setting :
for field : 'CHECKBOX'.
<b> ls_fcat-checkbox = 'X'.
ls_fcat-edit = 'X'.</b>
In user command subroutine :
check displayed internal table (itab here)
u will find the checkbox-checked record has itab-checkbox = 'X' .

How to display first SPACE character in Column of ALV Grid Report?
Hello All,
In ALV Grid report, One of the column has a value like ' Test_Value'. In this value first character is SPACE but in display SPACE is not appearing.
Field catalog type is:- slis_t_fieldcat_alv
I have used the function module:- REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY
Is there any settings required in Fieldcatalog Internal table for displaying leading SPACE chara.?
its a field not the header.
thanks in advance.

Problem with display of a character (value 65533)
Hi all, sorry for my english but i don't speak it very well.
I have a big problem with the visualization of a character.
I have a binary text that i have to analyze with java. With my utility all works fine, but when i get the character (binary 81) and i analayze this character i obtain an int 65533 or a byte -3 , and after a casting to char i see that java doesn't display correctly this char, infact i obtain a char like this a question mark in a square. Even if a try to write this into a text file, i can see correctly all the other char, but instead of this char i see a question mark.
Someone know why i obtain this?i have to set some specific character encoding or something like this?
I don't know if this is usefull, but these are Hebrew char.
Thanks, bye.A character value of 65533 in not in the Unicode range for Hebrew and Java characters are Unicode encoded as UTF16. See http://www.unicode.org/charts/ .
65533 is not a byte value since bytes have a range -128 to +127 .
0x81 is not the same as 65533 decimal.
How are you converting the bytes of the file to characters?

Creating fieldcatalogs manually is one of the major error sources in ALV programming.
There is hardly any reason why NOT to use the standard-fm LVC_FIELDCATALOG_MERGE in order to create a proper fieldcatalog.
If you need some modification of the standard fieldcatalog (e.g. renaming of columns, etc.) just do your post-processing after calling the fm.

Restricting character values in Editable field in ALV
Hi ,
I am working on Editable ALV ..,
Editable field is net amount field ,
can you tell me how to restrict the user to enter the
character values before he is going for saving.
can i restrict the user while entering it self b'coz
while saving message is getting but client want at user entry level itself..,
code ::
WA_FIELDCAT-FIELDNAME = 'NETPR'.
WA_FIELDCAT-SCRTEXT_M = 'Net Price'.
WA_FIELDCAT-EDIT = 'X'. "sets whole column to be editable
WA_FIELDCAT-COL_POS = 7.
WA_FIELDCAT-OUTPUTLEN = 15.
WA_FIELDCAT-REF_TABLE = 'EKPO'.
WA_FIELDCAT-REF_FIELD = 'NETPR'.
APPEND WA_FIELDCAT TO IT_FIELDCAT.
CLEAR WA_FIELDCAT.
regards,
abdulHi,
Yes, you can ristrict the data entered by user.
1. declare the field of type P for net price, if will not accept character values. and if user entered char value and press enter it
will through error.
2. check in loop, if net price is of P type, etc....
3. u cas pass routine to your REUSE_ALV_grid_display.
i_callback_user_command = 'USER_COMM'
in user_comm you can write ur logic.
Ex: when Save.
check ur fiels etc...
4. remove the given reference table and field name.
EX : LS_FIELDCAT-REF_FIELDNAME = 'NAME1'.
LS_FIELDCAT-REF_TABNAME = 'ZCYLI_QUAN'.
hope this will solve your problem. -
How to truncate character value?
Hi,
I would like to truncate characters. Suppose i have a input field of length 10 but my output filed length is only 6 how can we achieve this?
Thanks alot,
Rajeev.Hi,
This solely depends on the nature of data that comes from the source.
Taking your example, if the input has 10 characters and all the 10 characters are entered, then passing this to a 6 character field truncates your input anyways. Beware your answer may not be correct unless you confirm the following:

1) Whether you need only the first 6 characters/last 6 charcters/any specific 6 characters of the input to be passed to the target - You can pass the value acordingly using the offset as per the requirement
2)Whether all leading 0's to be discarded - In this case you can do a "Shift left" on the source string deleting the leading 0's and condense the source before moving to the target.
3) Whether trailing spaces to be discarded, in which case a mere move to the target automatically truncates the final 4 charaters of the source and any trailing spaces doesnt matter at all.
Thanks

Character value can display automatically
Dear Experts,
i have a question for character value.
In BW, we have master data for PH1-PH6.
And if you know the PH6, there is unique value for PH1-PH5.
For example, if PH6 = 111111, PH1 = 1, PH2 = 11, PH3 = 111,etc.
This value is unique.
Now we have a excel layout for user to key in.
User only key in PH6, we want that the value for Ph1-Ph5 can fill-in automatically.
Just like user key in ph6 = 111111, ph1 = 1, ph2 = 11, ect.
I think characteritic relationship can achieve this requirment.
But question is that we must use the exit type for this requriment, am I right.
Can we use attribute or reference data or hierarchy ,etc to achieve this target?
If we use exit, we must create a function to support this requirement.
Thanks and best regards
Alex yangHi Alex,
you can do that easily with standard relationship, you need to have in the master data of PH6 the others PH as attrubutes, this way you can use char relationship based on master data. A similar way is to have a DSO with PH6 as a key and all the others PH and you can use C R with DSO. again hier is the same, if you have the hier you can easily set C R based on hier.
if you don't want to create such relations then you need exit relat.
hope this helps

hi friends,
i am doing an alv report..the requirement is i need to display the user inputs at the top of the alv grid..in that, for a particular field, if the user is not selecting any option, then i need to display all the values in that category...i have concatenated all those values into a variable and displayed it...but the problem is, it is not taking beyond 60 characters as P_HEADING-INFO is only defined as characters of length 60...how to expand the character value of p_heading? thanks all..max size is

Hi all.
we are phasing a problem.
I am using alv to display in output.
I am using a Quantiti field (BDMNG),.
in this field if nodata is there then it is showing 0.000(that is the default value).
I don't want those zeros.I want only space(blank only).
Can any body help me to solve this issue.
Thanks in advance
Eswar.Hai,
While building field catalog For quantity field Set the NO-ZERO attribute to 'X'.
Or you can change the quantity filed to character in the alv display.
Mark points if helpful.

How 2 assgin a character value to the auxillary cell
Hi,
I'm assigning a character value to the auxiliary cell in the macro. But it gives me a dump. So do let me know can I assign a character value to the auxiliary cell ( I need to display this value for the alert text).
Thanks,
Siva. Why are you trying to use a character in the planning book - why not a representative value in numbers
but if you HAVE to use characteristic then you can also try to use the notes functionality (right click on a cell and go to notes if you have not seen this )
These notes are usually anchored to a cell. These notes are stored in a table (check in se 16 with wildcard on notes ) and is associated to the value of a cell
So if you can reference a cell value and put in the conditons to the values on it you might be able to manipulate the values in the table for notes and this will cause the notes in the interactive planning boo to change accoring to the value of the cell -
Hi,
The issue is that the values are not getting displayed in lt_return(table which i declared).
Please find the code below. Is there anything to do with POSITION field in DFIES table? When i press F4 the popup is coming but im unable to see any values in it.Please help? F4 for Editable field in ALV, display Name but capture ID
Hi Friends,
I have a ALV for which i have defined a Structure, which is passed to Fieldcatlog.
I have defined a Search help - ZUSER_NAME which has following fields to display.
USERID - USR02-BNAME
FNAME
LNAME
FULLNAME
So my structure for fieldcatalog has User-id which is linked to this search help with Domain XUBNAME.
So in my report i made this User-Id as editable and F4 available, everything is working fine.
when user does a F4, its displaying Userid,Fname,Lname and complete name.upon selection and save i am capturing the id and storing in the ztable.
But now i have a requirement that when user selects a value from this search help on F4, i need to display Fullname but capture the User Id. How can i do that?
This is something similar to the one we have in BSP- key-value pair.
how to do this in ALV.
Appreciate if someone can guide me thru.
Thanks,
Simha

Now I have realized update edit in ALV,but I found only I double click ALV row, then the MAKTX can update.
Please give me help,

SunThis is the document written by me on Interactive ALV.. hope this maybe helpful for u..
When an Interactive Report is needed in Classical Display, we go for AT LINE-SELECTION. But when the same is needed in ALV Display, this method won't work. Instead, we need to use other way which is explained below:
We use REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY for ALV Display. Now, normally we call that FM in the following way:
CALL FUNCTION 'REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY'
EXPORTING
i_callback_program = 'PROGRAM_NAME'
it_fieldcat = tb_fieldcat
TABLES
t_outtab = tb_output.
When it is needed to get an Interactive ALV, call the same FM in the following manner:
CALL FUNCTION 'REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY'
EXPORTING
i_callback_program = 'ZTEST75599_1'
it_fieldcat = tb_fieldcat
i_callback_user_command = 'USER_COMMAND'
TABLES
t_outtab = tb_output.
Now, in the report, create a subroutine with the name USER_COMMAND as follows:
FORM user_command USING p_ucomm LIKE sy-ucomm
p_selfield TYPE slis_selfield.
CASE p_ucomm.
WHEN '&IC1'. " &IC1 - SAP standard code for double-clicking
Based on the requirement, write the logic *
ENDCASE.
ENDFORM.
No need to call the subroutine as PERFORM user_command. This will be takane care by REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY. We need to just write the subroutine in the report. That suffices.
Some more useful points for Interactive ALV:
1. If Hotspot is needed, then that should be done by declaring hotspot (one field in slis_t_fieldcat_alv) as 'X' in tb_fieldcat which is of type slis_t_fieldcat_alv. When hotspot is active, single click will be enough or else you should double click on the output data.
2. In Classical Display, when it is needed to read the record on which we double clicked, we do that in following way:
AT LINE-SELECTION.
GET CURSOR LINE wf_line. " wf_line gives the line number on which it has been clicked
READ LINE wf_line OF CURRENT PAGE.
But this won't work for ALV. Instead, the following logic can be used:
FORM user_command USING p_ucomm LIKE sy-ucomm
p_selfield TYPE slis_selfield.
CASE p_ucomm.
WHEN '&IC1'. " &IC1 - SAP standard code for double-clicking
READ TABLE tb_output INTO wa_output INDEX p_selfield-tabindex.
IF sy-subrc EQ 0.
Based on the requirement, write the logic *
ENDIF.
ENDCASE.
ENDFORM.
