Is there a limitation to use special characters in the documents filename.
Ex. In windows you can not use \/:*?"<>| characters in the filename.

  • UTF characters in the filename(Windows platform)

    Hello all,
    I want to know how to get the name of the document that contains UTF characters.
    The current implementation of code:
    BSTR l_fileInfoBSTR = NULL;
    IActionReference l_docRef( m_photoshop->MakeReference() );
    l_docRef.PutProperty( classProperty, keyFileReference );
    l_docRef.PutIdentifier( classDocument, l_doc_id );
    IActionDescriptor l_docDesc;
    m_action_ctrl->GetActionProperty( l_docRef, (IDispatch**)&l_docDesc );
    long hasKey = false;
    l_docDesc.HasKey( keyFileReference, &hasKey );
    if( hasKey )
          l_docDesc.GetPath( keyFileReference, &l_fileInfoBSTR );
    Thanks.

  • MapIDs - How to make them the same as the Filename.htm?

    Hi All,
    I'm fairly new to Robohelp, hoping the experts can take it easy on me!
    We're in the process of converting our old WinHelp projects to Microsoft HTML Help projects. We previously had 10 separate .HLP files for our project, we're hoping to condence all of those into a single CHM file.
    In our previous projects, our MapIDs were as follows from the .HH file:
    #define HELP_Add_Cables    6171
    #define HELP_Add_Column    6181
    #define HELP_Add_Control_Unit    6537
    #define HELP_Add_Copy    17043
    etc.
    After converting our projects from WinHelp->MS HTML Help, each one of these topics created a new HTM file, ie: "Help_Add_Cables.htm", fine, no problem. But when I bring up the "Edit Map IDs" dialog, its now showing me the Topic ID ("How to Add Cables"), and not the HELP_XXX_XXX name that is used throughout our product. As a result, we would have to go through our source code and update approximately 1000 Map IDs - yuck!
    Is there a way to force this dialog to use the Filename, and not the Topic Name to generate the .h file? Is there some fancy editing I can do in Ultraedit instead of using Robohelp to get the result I want?
    I notice there is an alias file as well, that appears to correspond between the Topic Name, and the .HTM Filename.
    We were previously using Robohelp 5.xx, and recently upgraded to 8.0.1.204.
    Anyhelp you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers.
    Mike.

    Hi,
    I created a small RH script that quickly assigns TopicId's and mapnumbers to your topics, based on the filename. Hope it helps.
    First, the script adds a map file called 'RHScriptMapFile'. No checks whether it exists or not.
    Then, creates a TopicId for each topic based on the file name. It just strips the '.htm' from the filename and replaces spaces in the name with underscores. A sequential mapid is added. The script is nothing fancy, but I hope it shows how you can quickly create a script that will save you from changing a thousand id's by hand.
    CreateContextSensitivity();
    function CreateContextSensitivity() {
       var MapManager = RoboHelp.project.MapIdManager;
         var MapfileName = 'RHScriptMapFile';
         MapManager.newMapFile(MapfileName);
         MapManager.setCurMapFile(RoboHelp.project.path+'\\'+MapfileName+ '.h');
         var topicmanager = RoboHelp.project.TopicManager;
         for(var i=1;i<=topicmanager.count;i++)
              topic = topicmanager.item(i);
              var TopicId = GetTopicId(topic);
              MapManager.newMapId(TopicId, i);
              MapManager.assign(TopicId, topic.path);
         alert('Context sensitivity created in map file '+MapfileName);
    function GetTopicId(topic) {//Get the topic id based on the filename
         var FileEnd = /\.htm/g;//Strip .htm from the filename
         var Forbidden = /( )/g;//Strip forbidden characters from the filename.
         var ID = topic.filename.replace(FileEnd, '');
         return ID.replace(Forbidden, '_');

  • SharePoint Search encodes the URL incorrectly when there are special characters in a filename on a file share

    In our Sharepoint Server 2013 CA, Search Administration, Content Sources, we have configured a File Share Content Source.
    Search queryes works fine and it returns relevant documents from the file share content source.
    But when click on a file with a filename that contains special characters like "ÁÝÚÍÓÐ", Sharepoint encodes the link to the file incorect, and when we click on the link to the file, it throws an error on the screen saying "This
    page can’t be displayed".
    The following picture shows an example on how Sharepoint shows encodes the URL to a file with a special character in the filename:
    As you can see, the link to the file is
    \\xserver1\felagstest\Kompliserað\Ólavur.pdf, but when I hoover over the file, it translates og encodes this to
    \\xserver1\Felagstest\Kompliserað\Ólavur.pdf. If I manually type the correct link in the address field in Internet Explorer then it works.
    What is the problem here, and more importently what is the solution to this problem?

    This is solved in the Hotfix KB 2899469 for SharePoint Server 2013 October 14, 2014:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/stefan_gossner/archive/2014/10/14/october-2014-cu-for-sharepoint-2013-has-been-released.aspx
    I installed the http://support2.microsoft.com/kb/2899469 hotfix, and now I can search and open files on external file shares with path and filenames containing non-US-ASCII characters,
    without getting "This page can’t be displayed".
    Where in the description of this hotfix is written, that it solves the encoding issue?

  • Reading a file with unknown characters (????)  in the filename

    Just a quick question. I have a filename which I created on a Japanese OS. The filename contains Japanese characters. When I bring this file over to an English OS it appears with ???? in the file name. I can view the file contents using notepad. However when I attempt to open the file for reading through Java it tells me that the file does not exist. Is there any way around this apart from installing a Japanese character set ????????? Please help!

    When I bring this file over to an English OS it appears with ???? in the file name.Exactly how did you "bring it over"?
    English Windows versions are reported to have problems with files from non-English versions.
    If you are not able to name the file in the English environment, you will not easily be able to open it.
    As a test, I would try to do a directory listing with File.listFiles() to see whether and how it appears.

  • How to capture the Filename Dynamically in BPM

    Hi All,
    My scenario is FileBPMFile and my target end should get the same file name as source file name.
    If suppose it is simple File to File we can use set attributes option to get the same filename.
    But if BPM comes into Middle will it be managed if so how?
    Can anyone suggest me?
    Thanks,
    Kalyan.

    Hi,
    There is no difference between File>BPM>File & File-->File with the requirement you are looking for.
    Since you are not doing any modifications to the filename read from Sender File System no need for dynamic configuration concept in UDF of any mapping.
    Do the following
    Sender File Adapter Channel.
    file name : a particular file name or a .(STAR.STAR) according to your requirement.
    e.g., test.xml (or) *.xml (or) . (STAR.STAR)
    Enable Adapter- Specific Message Attributes check box and make sure that the File Name check box is enabled. Save and Activate.
    Receiver File Adapter Channel
    file name :  . (STAR.STAR)
    Enable Adapter- Specific Message Attributes check box and make sure that the File Name check box is enabled. Save and Activate.
    Execute your scenario.

  • Using Javascript & Actions to resize an image and add the filename as text

    Hello,
    I am currently working on a way to take an image, resize it and add exactly what is in it's file name (before extension) as a text layer. I have succeded in this BUT am having issues with file names that require more than one line of text.
    I need the text to align to the bottom of the image & the script or action must then resize the image so that the text does not overlap.
    Any ideas on how this can be done?
    At the moment I am using:
    -"Fit Image.jsx" to resize my image to a specific size (This was included in the Photoshop CS5 scripts)
    - A script to add the file name without extension and place the file name at a specific position.
    AdFileName.jsx
    if ( documents.length > 0 )
    var originalRulerUnits = preferences.rulerUnits;
    preferences.rulerUnits = Units.PIXELS;
    try
      var docRef = activeDocument;
      // Now create a text layer at the front
      var myLayerRef = docRef.artLayers.add();
      myLayerRef.kind = LayerKind.TEXT;
      myLayerRef.name = "Filename";
      var myTextRef = myLayerRef.textItem;
      // strip the extension off
      var fileNameNoExtension = docRef.name;
      fileNameNoExtension = fileNameNoExtension.split( "." );
      if ( fileNameNoExtension.length > 1 ) {
       fileNameNoExtension.length--;
      fileNameNoExtension = fileNameNoExtension.join(".");
      myTextRef.contents = fileNameNoExtension;
      // off set the text to be in the middle
      myTextRef.position = new Array( docRef.width / 2, docRef.height / 2 );
      myTextRef.size = 12;
            myTextRef.font="Arial-BoldMT"
            //set position of text
            myTextRef.justification = Justification.CENTER;
            myTextRef.kind = TextType.PARAGRAPHTEXT;
            myTextRef.width= docRef.width;
            myTextRef.height= docRef.height/ 2;
            myTextRef.position= [0, docRef.height * 0.88];
    catch( e )
      // An error occurred. Restore ruler units, then propagate the error back
      // to the user
      preferences.rulerUnits = originalRulerUnits;
      throw e;
    // Everything went Ok. Restore ruler units
    preferences.rulerUnits = originalRulerUnits;
    else
    alert( "You must have a document open to add the filename!" );
    Can the position be changed to allow more rows of text but keep it aligned with the bottom of the layer?
    How can I script in a way to make the image resize based on the amount of text lines?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    You can add a text layer any where the only thing you need to worry about is the size of the font you use.  You can normally calculate a font size by saving the images resoltuion and then setting its resolution to 72 DPI calculate a font size basied of the images pixel width and the number of characters you want in a line. After adding the text layer you can restore the image to its original resolution and align the text layer by making a selection and alignint the text layer to the selection.  There are nine posibilites like the positions in the selection you can align to like a tick tack toe board. You need to use a script to add the text layer because your retrieving the filename.  The positioning of the text layer could be done easily in an action the would use the scriot to add a text layer the do a select all  the align the added text layer to the selection.
    About your script don't make text paragraph just add new line characters to make a multi line text layer So it can be positioned easily
    I do just that with my stampexif action.  The action uses my stampexif Photoshop java script to add a multi line text layer containing some formatted EXIF data then the action centers the text layer and add a layer style to it. Link http://www.mouseprints.net/old/dpr/StampExif.jsx Example

  • How can I load pics from camera without spaces in the filename (PSE5)

    Hello,
    I want to load the pics from my Fuji Camera with my newly acquired Photoshop Elements 5 into its database as simple as possible. I get offered several ways of renaming the pics during the import. Unfortunately the date formats offered (for folder or filenames) do *all* include space characters " ", which I do not like, because this caused me earlier a lot of trouble when putting the pics online, for example (%20 in the path name). Another reason is my existing photo collection since 2001, which has no spaces in the filenames as well.
    Example for the filename:
    PSE offers: "jj mm dd 001.jpg"
    I want : "jjmmdd_001.jpg" or at least "jj_mm_dd_001.jpg" or anything similar.
    For folder names the same thing appears.
    Is there a way to do that without typing each date without spaces by hand?
    How?
    I would like to have the photo load process as simple as possible, without having to remove the spaces with a separate rename tool.
    Any ideas?
    I searched for quite a while and I am surprised that nobody else seems to have this problem. Am I just too picky?
    Thank for any help.
    Greetings from Germany,
    Ulrich

    Ken,<br />again thanks for your writing.<br /><br />IMHO, if PSE had space free filenames, this would lead to a very simple and fast workflow with PSE alone (!) like this:<br /><br />1. Just connect my camera (Fuji F31fd) with the USB cable (no fiddling with the memory card in and out each time)<br />2. Transferring all (or selected) pics into PSE, one folder per day, named yymmdd_optional_theme_description.<br />3. Delete all non-optimal pics after viewing in PSE. Then tagging, pic-improving where needed ....<br />4. As backup, burn/move to CD from time to time and copy/move to an external HDD for double security.<br /><br />Its just the spaces in the filenames which prevents me from using this. I want to have the workflow well defined and fixed before I start using PSE5. <br />But it seems there is no workaround (so far).<br /><br />Maybe I should just take the "trouble" and rename every folder manually within PSE. No problem with one or 2 days, and still not a very big problem after a 3 week holiday. But still all single photo files will have the spaces in them. If I want to avoid that, I really have to bring them to the PC without PSE, rename them as batch with Irfan or any other tool, and then import them to PSE, as you wrote. From my point of view, a lot of unnecessary hassle, especially if I have the simple workflow from above in mind.<br /><br />Many people seem not to be disturbed by the spaces in the filenames. I wonder if I overrate the disadvantage of it. Your opinion(s)?<br /><br />I am not sure what you mean with<br /><Perhaps Ulrich would be well served if he created a collection of newly acquired pictures with a common theme.><br /><br />In fact I want to come away from theme centered archiving the photos, which is what I did so far. I learned this from the article <br />http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1018&message=26366116 <br />and the following one from Arrowman. I won't follow all what he wrote *in detail*, but most ideas seem to be good. The PSE tagging should do the theme-related searches.<br /><br />Greetings,<br />Ulrich

  • Special Characters in the file name in Data Driven Subscription via File Share

    Hi,
    I am trying to create a Data Driven Subscription with option to delivery as  windows file share in SQL server 2005. I need to save the report as a pdf with the following file name  '[City] City_Name', but it errors out and it is because of the
    Square Brackets. Is there any way i can save the file using the Square brackets as i mentioned above.
    I am using a query to get the filename and filepath. It works fine as long as i do not have [], but i need to save the file as i mentioned along with the Square Brackets.
    Please help.

    Hello,
    I can reproduce the issue on my test environment: When I create a Data Driven Subscription and specify the report name by get from a subscription delivery table, and the value of the "report name" column contains square brackets. The subscription failed
    with following error in the error log:

  • Crawl Log Error: "The filename or extension is too long."

    Hello All,
    I get this error for some files on my SharePoint 2010 error log. The fix suggested
    here does not work as its for earlier versions of sharepoint 2010. I have verified the files in question have a title lenght of 120 characters and Name(Link) with character lenght of 71.
    Whats weird is sharepoint indexes some similarly named files but exempts the other. These files are basically the same just named different as they belong to different users.
    Any help?

    It could be because of this also:
    Assume that a custom list in a Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010 site or in a Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 site contains a multiline text column. If the data size of the custom column is more than 100 kilobytes (KB), only the first 100 KB of the data
    is indexed when you perform a crawl on the SharePoint site. Additionally, you receive the following error message:
    The filename or extension is too long.

  • Double Byte Characters in the URL

    Hi
    I am working on a sample code that uploads and file and lists the file after upload as a link. Users can download files by right clicking on the filename(link) and use the browser's options to download the file.
    I am having problems with files that have japanese/chinese characters in the file names. These are shown with junk characters in the list and when the user clicks on them to save them, I am not able to translate the url to point to the actual file.
    For eg: URL to the file with japanese characters look like this http://hostname/downloads/.txt
    When I try to access this URL I get a 404 exception which is due to the special characters
    Can someone direct me in this context
    Thanks
    Rajesh

    Rajesh,
    Did you find a solution for this problem?
    Thanks,

  • There is a problem with the photo with the filename "null". The full resolution version of this photo either cannot be located or is corrupt. Please replace this photo or delete it from your book.

    Absolutely INFURIATING.
    I have spent absolute hours building a photo album for the first year or my sons life. Sorting through quite literally thousands and thousands of images. Got a brilliant looking album using 177 of them.
    Now everytime I try to check out it won't get past page 1 of building the book.
    It says the following "There is a problem with the photo with the filename "null". The full resolution version of this photo either cannot be located or is corrupt. Please replace this photo or delete it from your book.".
    The images all look perfect. I have even tried taking them out and re adding the first page images from the library.
    Same problem.
    This is so annoying. So far I have NOT been happy with this iphoto application having nothing but problems with missing thumbnails. Corrupted images. Things that have never happened to me using a windows machine.

    Do the filenames contain special characters, like "ä,ü,..." or white space or are the vry long? Is there anything special about the image format? Try to export the edited versions in that case and reimport it with a different, shorter filename.
    For testing, create a new book with only the images you want to check.
    If this does not fix it, try rebuilding. Depress the option and command keys, launch iPhoto and rebuild the library.

  • How to create subfolders with names corresponding to the filenames

    sorry to ask this here, but I'm a complete noob with Actionscript.
    Can anybody please tell me if this is possible at all and perhaps give me some hint how to manage this:
    I would like to be able to do something like this:
    I have a source folder with files.
    The files do have different extensions, which are not important for the actions
    The filenames consist of a 8digit, some have some additional strings which are not important for the action.
    Example filename: 14123456.tif or 1423456YT.jpg
    I would like to create a folder structure where each of the 8digits of the filenames represents a subfolder (which needs to be created when not there) and then move the file into this subfolder, overwriting exinsting files with the same name without prompt.
    So for the file 14123456YT.jpg the script should create a folder structure like:
    Foler "1" with a subfolder "4", with a subfolder "1" etc. and move then this file into this subfolder. Again: it is only about 8 digits, if there are addition strings after the 8th digit, this does not need a subfolder (like "Y" in the above example". The next file in the source might have a complete different number.
    I do not expect that somebody creates this for me, not at all.
    But before I dive into the Applescript I would like to know if this is possible at all. Of course I would be happy for any hints to scripts that are similar to what I want so that I can use this as a starting point.
    Thanks for any discussions on this matter,
    gb5256

    It looks like (on a British system with "." as the decimals separator), coercion from a string to an integer will round up with a "." - "1234.567" becomes 1235 - and will ignore a "," - the same string becomes "1234567". On a continental system, this will likely be the other way around.
    In these circumstances, I think the only option you have is to iterate through every character to check that it's a number. This will take slightly longer, but it will at least guarantee that nothing other than a number will work. I have made the change below. Note that the 'exit repeat' takes you out of the repeat loop as soon as an illegal character is found.
    <pre style="
    font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
    font-size: 10px;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 5px;
    border: 1px solid #000000;
    width: 720px; height: 340px;
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #FFDDFF;
    overflow: auto;">
    tell application "Finder"
    set theFolder to choose folder --asks for user to select a top level folder
    set topLevel to theFolder --holds the path to the top level
    set fileList to document files of theFolder --gets every document file in the top level folder
    repeat with theFile in fileList --iterates through the files
    set fileName to name of theFile --sets variable to name of the file
    set thePath to characters 1 thru 8 of fileName --gets first 8 characters of the file name into a list
    set numeric to true
    repeat with theChar in thePath
    if theChar is not in "0123456789" then
    set numeric to false
    exit repeat
    end if
    end repeat
    if numeric then
    repeat with subFolder in thePath --iterates through the list of characters
    if (subFolder as text) is in "0123456789" then --checks for numeral
    if not (exists folder named subFolder in theFolder) then --checks if folder with this name already exists
    set folderName to (subFolder as text) --puts name into a variable
    set theFolder to (make new folder in theFolder with properties {name:folderName}) --makes the new folder
    else
    set theFolder to folder subFolder of theFolder --if the folder exists, move down to that level
    end if
    end if
    end repeat
    if not (exists file named fileName in theFolder) then
    move theFile to theFolder --move the file from the top level to the bottom of the folder hierarchy
    end if
    set theFolder to topLevel --start again from the top
    end if
    end repeat
    end tell </pre>

  • How stop firefox from adding "+" to the filename when open files

    lets say I open a word.doc file.
    Its filename is "file folder one.doc"
    Firefox makes it "file+folder+one.doc"
    it is very annoying - just started showing up and I cannot figure out how to turn off.
    Please make it stop!!!

    You are opening a DOC file from disk into Firefox?
    Do you see the spaces in the file name replaced with + characters in the address bar or somewhere else?
