Characters on display have gone haywire.

I have an HP All-inOne 1600 series & have reinstalled. OP is  XP.
I have never had a problem with this printer.  It has been great!! ... until now.  I hit print and got a "Carriage jam" message.  I opened it and corrected it.  When I closed the top, the characters on the printer's display window totally changed to 'non-letters'!   Got any idea how to get the English alphabet back onto my printer display window?
Any help would be truely welcomed! I love this printer!!

Is that an Officejet, Deskjet or Photosmart printer?

  • Mms glitch : incoming messages have gone haywire.

    at first i thought it was my friends phone but not its happening with multiple people - anytime i get a large messages, more than a few sentences long - the text is just a bunch of random characters and symbols. its very frustrating. any direction would be very appreciated.

    First check to make sure MMS is enabled on your phone.
    Next, try a Reset: Hold down the home and sleep buttons, ignore the Off slider, wait for the Apple logo and let go.
    At this point if it is still not working I would call Verizon as it could be a provisioning problem on your phone. They may have you try to Restore your iPhone in iTunes.

  • Display has gone haywire - all I get is a line across the screen

    So, I'm more than a little out of my element when working with my PowerBook but I really want to save this computer and I hope you guys can help. When I turn it on it makes the harmonious "bow" noise and then the gray start-up screen with the apple in the middle shows up and it's all moving along like normal. But then when it's supposed to show my main desktop screen the screen instead goes entirely black except for one strip that runs the length of the monitor. When I put a DVD into it the machine autostarts it and I can hear sound just fine but still the display is wacky. Is there anything I can do? I wouldn't mind hooking it up to an external monitor but I just don't know how. Can anyone point me in the right (and hopefully affordable) direction?

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
    You don't say anything about which 15" Powerbook model you have, so in general, it may have come with a DVI to VGA adapter, which is what you could use that to attach a cable going to an external monitor that requires a regular PC cable. Or, if your external monitor accepts a DVI cable, you could use that connection.
    If you can hook up an external monitor, and if it works, I would want to run the Apple hardware test, or either of the TechTools programs would work too. The hardware test will test the video hardware, and point out any issues. The Apple hardware test is on the original OS X disks that shipped with your machine (unless you have the first Powerbooks shipped, in which case they are online).

  • Help My Windows have gone haywire!

    So I was setting up spaces and something happened. Right now when I have multiple apps opened, if I click on the app window it stays behind all the other opened windows!!! I can't see what i'm doing!!! Same thing for my right click! If I right click on something, the right click window stays behind other opened windows! I have no idea what I did to make this happen. I disabled spaces and everything but it stays that way. Anybody have a clue?

  • My E63 seems to have gone haywire! What do i do ne...

    Oh dear! My beloved E63 does not not seem to be working anymore and its progressively getting worse!
    Ok so a few days ago i purchased a new 8gb memory card, so im really not sure if the problems im having are related to the new card or perhaps all the apps ive been constantly installing, or maybe even some other internal problem. Well at first the web browser kept freezing and stalling, now im finding that apps just dont start up at all when i click on them, ive also tried uninstalling some of the newer apps (in case it was them causing the problems) but im finding the phone just freezes during the uninstall process and im totally unable to uninstall anything.  Im finding that apps installed both on the phone and on the memory card will not start up when i click on them or give errors if they do manage to start up.  Basically the whole phone is on the verge of not being functional at all. Can someone please advise me on what to do next and/or what might be causing the problem.  Any help or suggestions will be much appreciated as im REALLY trying to avoid having to send the phone away for repairs.  Thanks in advance!!
    Solved!

    Backup your contacts and other important data on the phone then do a hard reset(note:it will erase every thing from it) To do a hard reset type this code: *#7370# then it will ask the security code then ok then it will restart Also remove your important data from memory card ,format it on the pc then format it again in the phone now transfer your data to the phone and the card But,this time just install the apps you need not every app you see it on the net

    I am having problems launching the standalone version of Lightroom 6 after I have gone through the install and activation process? Lightroom starts to open but "hangs" before any photos in the catalgue are displayed. I have contacted the chat support twice but they have not been able to fix the problem.

    I went through the activation process yesterday and shut down my PC when I went to bed last evening. When I got up this morning and turned my PC on and then started Lightrom 6 (I upgraded from version 5) it started to launch but then just hung and became "not responsive". I I then uninstalled and then reinstalled the product today but the same thing happened. What is weird is that when I install from the standalone file I downloaded when I purchased the upgrade it looks like it's downloading the software again over the Internet? I have been having these problems for the last four or five days. I have contacted the chat support folks twice and they were able to get it working but whatever they did did not last as the problem reappeared again once the PC was shut down and then started up again.

  • Display colours have gone all strange

    The colours on my iphone have gone all weird, I can only discribe as psychedelic.  Any ideas how I get it back to normal?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
    They are probably negative colors. To disable that, open Settings > General > Accessibility, and turn off Invert colors

  • HELP! PB G4 LCD gone haywire!

    I'm in a terrible bind. I'm 7000 miles away from my home in California (in Cyprus where there's no official Apple support), I have a document and photographs to deliver to my newspaper tomorrow (I'm a writer/photographer) and my PB LCD has gone haywire.
    I left it to print, came back and the screen was covered in gray lines. Nothing could be seen in the background.
    Rebooted, ie via power switch. No improvement. I don't get the start up tone but I can hear the disk churning. I get the screen full of a repetitive pattern which then becomes a blue screen with only a square inch "rainbow" which I can move with the mouse - I guess that's the cursor. If I leave the PB on, the screen eventually gets one of these funny patterns, typically slightly diagonal lines with the repetitive patterns and the funny cursor disappears.
    Hearing the disk underneath all this while starting up, I tried to bring it up in single-user mode (Command-S while starting). I still got the funny screen but after allowing enough time for the start up procedure, I blindly I typed "fsck -f" to check the disk and I could hear the disk churning away for roughly the length of period it typically runs (I'll occasionally fsck the disk manually). I then typed "reboot" and sure enough it rebooted but the results where the same: patterns or the blue screen with the funny cursor and nothing else.
    As a result I'd like to believe (hope?) that the disk is ok, it's just my screen that's kaput. I have no VGA port at the back, only the one to which you attach Apple's own displays and the little adapter that I could use to hook up a VGA monitor is back home in Calif.
    I suspect I'm dead in the water. If by chance anyone can offer any help, I'll be eternally grateful!
    Thanks
    M

    It is more likely that the video circuitry on your PowerBook logic board is bad, and that your display is fine. That's not necessarily great news.
    However, if your logic board is not set to a state in which it does not operate at all, you can place your PowerBook in FireWire target disk mode, and - using another Macintosh of some sort - remotely mount your PowerBook's hard disk, giving you access to all of your data.
    Here are target disk mode instructions and some background instructions:
    ] http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
    If you can mount your PowerBook, you will be able to salvage the files, meet your deadline, and relax on a Mediterranean beach before slogging back to the US and enlisting the help of an Authorized Apple Service Provider.

  • Non-English characters not displaying correctly - Serious Issue

    My corporate email is on a Lotus Domino server with Lotus Traveler installed.
    I have set my PlayBook (with OS 2) up to syncronize with the corporate email trough Active Sync (see http://alturl.com/qh3nn), which works perfectly.
    I have however noticed that in some emails special non-english characters are displayed correctly but in some emails special non-english characters are displayed as a black diamond with a question mark inside.
    This is of course a serious issue as most non English speaking countries use some special characters.
    When trying to understand this problem how can I analyse the emails and see what character set is being used?
    And of course better; has someone solved this?

    I am having the same problem. Is there any update available?

    Ok so I happened to figure it out while on the phone to apple support. Even though the guy was very nice, I think I knew more than him! He was explaining very basic resolution principles I played about. I had the second option in displays resolution. All I did was unplug the HDMI cable, click on 'best for display' then plugged the HDMI in and my resolution on the normal monitor changed to the normal blue, then went black momentarily and then changed to a strange resolution but another window appeared that said SONY BRAVIA HDMI at the top! Hey presto! Don't know why it didn't do it yesterday - I probably left the HDMI cable in or something! Oh well. Problem solved!

  • Junk characters like" "displayed in the jsp page please help.

    Hi,
    I am getting junk characters like displayed in the jsp page.
    In the JSP page i used javascript "& nbsp" for appending spaces to a string "CCR" to get "CCR " .
    Now the Resultant string "CCR " has three spaces appended to its right.
    This String is set in session in that JSP page.
    In the next JSP page i am getting that string from session.
    After getting the string the "substring" function is performed to get only the first 5 charcters of the string. Now the result is displayed as " CCR " with has last 2 characters as junk values insteed of displaying as "CCR ". Please help me in solving this issue.
    Please note that initially the sting "CCR" is got from the Oracle database in Solaris Machine.
    Regards,
    Vijay

    have you tried:
    strenuously inspecting the string that is coming from the db? do an actual loop over the string, character by character, dumping to System.out to make sure the characters are EXACT coming out of the db.
    note you have to append " " not just "& nbsp"
    post the code that is doing the output. the relevant bean code, the jsp, everything relevant - WITH COMMENTS discussing where things are happening.
    Also, is it "weird characters" in the browser only? have you done a view source on the actual html source that the browser is rendering (right click in IE and click view source). browsers can act odd if you don't feed then exactly what they want, and it looks like you're feeding it escaped characters that it is rendering as something else.

  • Chinese and Korean characters not displaying in navigation pane

    I have an issue with Chinese and Korean characters not displaying on the tabs in the navigation pane:
    I have 2 RoboHelp projects (using RoboHelp 8 with the updates installed) to generate WebHelp, one in Simplified Chinese, the other Korean. The HTML files, .HHC and .HHK were sent out for translations. I have set the appropriate language in the project settings, everything almost works, except for the text on the Contents, Index, and Search tabs. (I'm not using a skin.) I have read in various threads that the lng file should be edited using the RoboHelp interface, and this seems to be the crux of the problem. The characters do not display correctly through the RoboHelp UI.
    The computer on which I generate the WebHelp is Windows Server 2003, and I do not have the language packs installed. (And am having problems getting hold of the language packs to install to see if this fixes the problem.)
    Aside from installing the language packs, is there anything else I can try to help resolve the problem? (The characters in the content are displaying as expected.)
    Any assistance is greatly appreciated

    Perhaps something in the Translation Info section of this page might help? (The specifics are for Japanese, but I believe the issue would apply to all double-byte languages).

  • Foreign characters not displaying

    Hi... I am developing a web app that includes a database of world cities, many of which have foreign characters in their names. The MySQL database is displaying the characters correctly, but when it comes to displaying them in drop down menus, the foreign characters are displayed as blank boxes.
    The application is a J2EE Java app.
    In the index.jsp file, in the html section, I have specified various types of character sets, including the standard iso-8859-1 and utf-8, but none make a difference.
    The home page with the drop-down menus is at www.your-astrology-report.com/index.jsp. From the pull-down menus, select "International", then "Greece", then "NON-ENGLISH FIRST LETTERS" and you'll see what I mean.
    The database code that puts the city names into the drop down menu is as follows, although as a fragment, it's incomplete.
    try{
         out.print("<select name='city'>");
         out.println("<option value='0'>Select Birth Town - Check Region!</option>");
         if(letter.equals("?")){
              q="select * from "+regid+" where country='"+country+"' AND city NOT RLIKE '^[A-Z]' order by city";
         } else {
              q="select * from "+regid+" where country='"+country+"' AND city LIKE '"+letter+"%' order by city";//city begins with letter
         ResultSet rst=execute_sql_query(q);
         int count=0;
         while(rst.next()){
              out.println("<option value='"+count+"'>"+rst.getString("city")+" - "+rst.getString("subdiv")+" "+SubDiv+"</option>");
              count++;
         out.println("</select>");
    I am very new to Java.
    Is there some basic way of telling either the query and/or the out.print statement to get, preserve, and display these foreign characters correctly?
    Please keep it simple! Like I said, I'm new to all this, and most of the Google queries I've made to try to figure this out have been gobble-de-gook to me! LOL!
    Thanks,
    Fartian

    Thanks everybody for your suggestions. So far, I'm sorry to say, none of your suggestions have helped, though.
    I suspect, though, that the reply concerning character streams (PaulClapham) holds the answer. I just don't know how to implement this in my case, i.e. how to apply this to the out.println statements in the previously given code block. My experience with Java is limited. Any ideas?
    I should probably tell you how all this is structured in terms of one file calling another:
    First we have the index.jsp (www.your-astrology-report.com/index.htm), which has dynamic input fields, the one in question being this:
    <td colspan="2"><div id="cities"><select name="city"><option value="">Select City</option></select></div></td>
          <td colspan="2">Select First Letter of City First!</td>div id="cities" refers to a function in a second file, xmlhttp.jsp, which is called by the dynamic input field located just above the "cities" field.
    Here is the function:
    function handleCityU(regid_letter_country){
         document.getElementById("cities").innerHTML="Loading cities...";
         url="internal_requestU2.jsp?regid_letter_country="+regid_letter_country.value;
         var xmlhttp=myXMLHttpRequest();
         xmlhttp.open("GET",url,true);
         xmlhttp.onreadystatechange=function() {
              if(xmlhttp.readyState!=4)return;
              document.getElementById("cities").innerHTML=xmlhttp.responseText;
         xmlhttp.send(null);
    }This function passes the variable "regid_letter_country.value" to yet another file that then parses the variable, requests the required database data, and creates the out.println statements that then populate the dynamic pull-down menu that displays the cities in the original index.jsp file.
    THIS IS WHERE I NEED IT TO BE DISPLAYING INTERNATIONAL CHARACTERS. The code for this part is what I originally posted.
    Help!
    Many thanks...

  • Non-Latin characters no displaying properly in Safari on iPhone

    I am having an issue where non-English (Chinese, Japanese etc) characters are displaying as squares on the iPhone's Safari browser. I've seen this issue on Windows when you haven't installed support for Asian languages.
    It would appear that the version of OS-X on the iPhones does not have support for non-Latin character sets.
    Has anyone else experienced this problem?

    I am having an issue where non-English (Chinese,
    Japanese etc) characters are displaying as squares on
    the iPhone's Safari browser.
    Could you provide the urls? It may be the pages have bad coding. Correctly coded pages will display according to tests I've seen:
    http://homepage.mac.com/thgewecke/iphonesafarilang.jpg
    But unlike OS X the iPhone has no way yet to manually correct for miscoded pages via a View > Text Encoding menu.
