Charting with data outside of Numbers 09 norm

Hello all,
I'm going out of my ever lovin' mind trying to create both an X-Y Scatter and Line chart but, my data is NOT in the iWork standard of A1 being the upper left corner of the header and/or data block.  For instance, my data block starts at X2 with the X column of data starting at X2 and the three series of Y values are in columns Y, Z and AA.  Yes, the header row for three series starts at cell X1 and the first X data value is at X2 as well as the first three y values are in Y2, Z2 and AA2.
So, how do I select my data set so that all three series plot as a line chart properly?  Then, the same, what range of cells do I select so that this same data pack plots correctly as three plot lines on an X/Y scatter chart?  Next, yes, how do I set my header row and header colimn correctly for both plots?
Thanks in advance for the help.

A line chart is a "Category" chart.
One axis, usually the 'x' axis, is a Category axis. The category axis does not show numerical values (even if the values are numbers, they are simply text that names each category). Categories are evenly spaced along this axis. Labels for the categories must be placed into a Header Column.
Values shown on the Value axis (usually the 'y' axis) are numerical.
Here are two examples of the same data, presented first as a scatter chart with the data points connected by line segnments, then as a line graph.
Note the differences in organization of the table, and the differences in spacing along the x axis.
Scatter chart:
All data in 'body' cells. Series labels in Header row. Note the shape of the line for Data series B (Green) and C (Yellow).
Line Chart:
Category labels in a Header column (Column A), Data series labels in a Header Row (Row 1). The 'numbers ' in column A are seen as text, and a regularly spaced along the x axis.
Data series in regular cells (B2:D8) Only the data cells are selected when making the chart.
Note the shapes of the lines for data series B (Green) and C (Yellow).
For your setup, you would need to place the 'x' values into a Header column. The Y values in columns Y, Z and AA could stay in those columns.
You would select only columns Y, Z and AA, then make the Line chart, as I've done in the example below after inserting some new columns to the left of that data.
Regards,
Barry

    I don't get what you are saying.
    Is this all the same document?
    What version of Pages?
    Have you tried to revert to a previous version?

  • Exporting analytic chart with dates

    Hi,
    I have an analytic chart with a list including some columns: id's names, dates, and amounts. This looks good in Sharepoint, but when I export the list to Excel, the dates are formatted as "General". They cannot be sorted or filtered as dates.
    I have tried having the date both as measure and attribute, but it makes no difference, it still behaves like text when it gets over to Excel. The closest I have is having the date as an integer and format as date is Excel, but of course, this looks rubish
    in Sharepoint.
    Any idea how I can get dates that looks and behaves like dates both in Sharepoint and the export to Excel

    Hi Jerry,
    I'm ALMOST there! If you could help me with one last thing it would be amazing. I've uploaded my number project and you can downloaded it on the link bellow, if you prefer.
    I managed to do the same idea chart as you have. However I would like to have two bars for every JOB (y-axis). On my table i've inputed for every job 4 values = START DATE that was scheduled / Duration period scheduled (this happens prior to the job itself // START DATE Delivered / Duration Period Delivered (this is the actual time the JOB took place). This way I can see at the end of a JOB if I worked during the period I planned.
    using your example on the chart above (your reply) Could Proposal have a bar 1.0 / 4.0 - and bellow this bar have another one (with different colours) that went from 2.0 / 5.0 - for example? - the first one representing the "scheduled dates"and the second one representing what actually happened.
    I managed to do the four bars but couldnt manage to have them bellow each other.
    Tks again for your help

  • Apex flash charts with date values on the x axis

    I am playing around in Apex 4 using flash charts and having a bit of troubles playing with dates on the x axis on a 2d line chart.
    What I am trying to achive is a values plotted across the chart and the date/time values are not a constent (ie not continually say 1 hour apart) hence why I want to use a datatype of date.
    In the SQL below:
    select null as link,  sysdate -2  as value, 0 as label from dual
    union
    select null , sysdate -2+1/24 , 1 from dual
    union
    select null , sysdate -2+2/24 , 2 from dual
    union
    select null , sysdate -2+5/48, 1 from dual
    union
    select null , sysdate -2+3/24, 0 from dual;I get a 2D Line chart but each date/time value is equally space apart (ie sysdate -2, sysdate -2+1/24, sysdate -2+2/24 and sysdate -2+3/24 should be 1 unit apart and sysdate -2+5/48 should be half way between sysdate -2+2/24 and sysdate -2+3/24).
    I think I have to use custom xml. Using http://www.anychart.com/products/anychart/docs/xmlReference/index.html and http://www.anychart.com/products/anychart/docs/users-guide/DateTime-Axes.html I edited the XML and changed:

    Can anyone see what I am doing wrong or point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.

    This will be a little bit lengthy answer, but I guess it will be easier to understand what I meant to say.
    I created a table that contains values you used as a data source (just to make my life easier):
    SQL> alter session set nls_date_format = 'dd.mm.yyyy hh24:mi:ss';
    Session altered.
    SQL> select * from test;
    VALUE                    LABEL
    12.10.2010 09:03:45          0
    12.10.2010 10:03:45          1
    12.10.2010 11:03:45          2
    12.10.2010 11:33:45          1
    12.10.2010 12:03:45          0
    SQL> alter session set nls_date_format = 'hh24:mi';
    Session altered. From now on, we'll see only hours and minutes.
    Step 1: current and previous values - difference in number of MINUTES
    SQL> select t.value,
      2         lag(t.value) over (order by t.value) previous_value,
      3         (t.value - lag(t.value) over (order by t.value)) * 24 * 60 minutes_diff
      4  from test t;
    VALUE PREVI MINUTES_DIFF
    09:03
    10:03 09:03           60
    11:03 10:03           60
    11:33 11:03           30
    12:03 11:33           30Step 2: a little bit of calculation:
    - TIME_SPAN: how many minutes are there between MIN and MAX date?
    - MIN_DIFF: what is the minimum time difference (minutes)?
    - SLICES: how many time slices do we want on the x-axis?
    SQL> select
      2    min(x.value) min_val,
      3    max(x.value) max_val,
      4    min(x.minutes_diff) min_diff,
      5    (max(x.value) - min(x.value)) * 24 * 60 time_span,
      6    (max(x.value) - min(x.value)) * 24 * 60 / min(x.minutes_diff) slices
      7  from (select t.value,
      8               lag(t.value) over (order by t.value) previous_value,
      9               (t.value - lag(t.value) over (order by t.value)) * 24 * 60 minutes_diff
    10        from test t
    11       ) x;
    MIN_V MAX_V   MIN_DIFF  TIME_SPAN     SLICES
    09:03 12:03         30        180          6There's 180 minutes between 09:03 and 12:03; minimum time difference in our TEST table is 30 minutes, so - we want to have 6 time slices on the x-axis (180 / 30).
    Step 3: row generator technique: let's create time values that are missing:
    SQL> select y.min_val + (level - 1) * y.min_diff / (24 * 60) val
      2  from (select
      3          min(x.value) min_val,
      4          max(x.value) max_val,
      5          min(x.minutes_diff) min_diff,
      6          (max(x.value) - min(x.value)) * 24 * 60 time_span,
      7          (max(x.value) - min(x.value)) * 24 * 60 / min(x.minutes_diff) slices
      8        from (select t.value,
      9                     lag(t.value) over (order by t.value) previous_value,
    10                     (t.value - lag(t.value) over (order by t.value)) * 24 * 60 minutes_diff
    11              from test t
    12             ) x
    13       ) y
    14  connect by level <= y.slices + 1;
    VAL
    09:03
    09:33
    10:03
    10:33
    11:03
    11:33
    12:03
    7 rows selected.OK, now we have 30 minutes between every time value.
    Step 4: join newly generated time values with the original table. Use OUTER JOIN; missing labels will be 0 (zero):
    SQL> select
      2    null link,
      3    to_char(z.val, 'hh24:mi') new_value,
      4    nvl(t1.label, 0) new_label
      5  from (select y.min_val + (level - 1) * y.min_diff / (24 * 60) val
      6        from (select
      7                min(x.value) min_val,
      8                max(x.value) max_val,
      9                min(x.minutes_diff) min_diff,
    10                (max(x.value) - min(x.value)) * 24 * 60 time_span,
    11                (max(x.value) - min(x.value)) * 24 * 60 / min(x.minutes_diff) slices
    12              from (select t.value,
    13                           lag(t.value) over (order by t.value) previous_value,
    14                           (t.value - lag(t.value) over (order by t.value)) * 24 * 60 minutes_diff
    15                    from test t
    16                   ) x
    17             ) y
    18        connect by level <= y.slices + 1
    19       ) z,
    20       test t1
    21  where t1.value (+) = z.val
    22  order by z.val;
    L NEW_V  NEW_LABEL
      09:03          0
      09:33          0
      10:03          1
      10:33          0
      11:03          2
      11:33          1
      12:03          0
    7 rows selected.Cool, so we have them all. Now, go to Apex and create a chart using a query from step #4.
    I tested it - it displays something which means that it should work for you too (unfortunately, this forum doesn't accept attachments so that you could see it). Now, I can't tell whether that's what you need or not, but - if the idea itself is OK, it can be adjusted (I hope so).

  • Had a hard time setting up a bar chart with date value

    Just wanted to achieve this simple chart with a date value instead of text string or numbers, which is quite simple to achieve in Excel see screenshot.
    With flex 4, here's my code snippet, what do I missed? Please give me a hand, thanks  alot.

Just need to add a DateTimeAxis to it! Though there's bug to it that the datetimeaxis format will only display mm/yy regardless you chose Days, Weeks or Months. Somehow I will need to tackle that.

  • Stacked Bar Chart with data from a Web Service

    Hi,
    I'm working on Dashboard Design (version 14.0.1.287) and I'm trying to create a chart linked to data from a webservice.
    With a Year in input, my webservice gives an Amount per Cities and Products
    Data retrieved look like this (Sheet1) :
    Paris          Tablets          45
    Paris          Laptops          12
    Paris          Cellulars          89
    New-York     Tablets          56
    New-York     Laptops          36
    New-York     Cellulars          1
    Londres          Tablets          150
    Londres          Laptops          3
    Londres          Cellulars          45
    Then I use a Pivot Table (created manually in Excel) looking like this (Sheet2) :
                   Tablets     Laptops     Cellulars
    Paris          45          12          89
    New-York     56          36          1
    Londres          150          3          45
    The chart is a Stacked Bar Chart plugged on the previous Pivot Table
    I create 3 series (one per Product), values (X) are set with Amount
    Category labels (Y) are set with Cities
    The goal is to have a dynamic chart (series and categories must update if a new city or a new product appears)
    So my question is : how can I set up the chart directly with data retrieved from webservice on Sheet1?
    Thx a lot !

    hi
    First thing , bad news if you are using .Net framework 1,
    just forget it, Flex 2 doesn't work well with framework 1, but 2nd,
    good news, if you want to use webservices, you'll have to make an
    array of objects on .Net Side and send it as objects to flex, i saw
    an example on the net but i can't seem to remember where, on the
    other hand,if you want to simply use, like i do, HTTPSERVICE its a
    very nice way to talk with .Net and you can see my example here
    http://flex1-for-dummies.blogspot.com
    By the way, in your code, you have a request tag , but you
    aren't requesting anything, because if you were you would have to
    make like this
    <mx:request>

  • JavaFX line chart with data labels onMouseOver

    Hello
    Is it possible to show the value of a data point in a line chart?
    Here is an example but in flash: [Example of Data labels|http://www.fusioncharts.com/Demos/Blueprint/Default.asp]

    Hi
    I don't use the scene.chart routines but have implemented my own chart with the feature you want - see www.eco-wand.com demonstration which has the feature you wand in the History scene.
    To achieve this, I use the onMouseMoved function to give me the x position within the chart rectangle. I use this to look up my data sequence to get the values which I then display as text.

  • How to create a chart with dates?

    I've created a table with projects I have to deliver and the date they were delivered. I would like to create a chart from this data - however I can't figure out how to use date in the chart.
    Ideally the chart would work with the date (lets say from jan 01 to april 5) on the x-axis and the project on the y-axis. And a line that goes from time A (which marks the initial part of the project) to the time B (which marks the delivery date) defined on the table.
    Is it possible?
    heres a pic of what i mean:

    Hi Jerry,
    I'm ALMOST there!

  • Can't seem to draw a chart (line chart) using dates rather than numbers

    I'm trying to draw a Line Chart but rather using numbers i want to use dates for example: Switzerland 23/06/2008 - 23/08/2008. Can't seem to get it to work? it seems to all go wrong when I change the cell format to 'date'
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks
    PS. I can do it easily in Excel

    Hello
    From my point of view, it's not surprising.
    In XL, a date is a number to which a date format is applied. So, it may be charted.
    Same thing with the good old AppleWorks.
    With Numbers, a date is NOT a number, it IS a specific class of data.
    The consequence is that it can't be charted directly.
    Happily, we may easily convert a date into a number.
    In column B the formula is
    =A-$A$1
    which calculates the numeric difference between stored dates and the date stored in A1.
    So, we may chart the results.
    I know that it's far from perfect but we have to live with the choices made by Numbers's designers.

  • Scatter charts with dates

    I am trying to create a scatter chart which has date on the X-axis and meter reading on the Y-axis. The date/time intervals are not regular so I can't use a line or bar chart, but I can't seem to get the scatter chart option to accept the series for the X-axis with the dates in it. Is what I am doing possible in Numbers or will I have to revert to Excel
    Many thanks for any help,
    John Perry.

    The Scatter chart requires sets of numerical values.
    Date_time aren't numerical values so as you see, we can't chart them.
    But it's easy to build a workaround.
    Here column B contains dates.
    In column C, I uses:
    =B-DATE(2008,1,1)
    which returns numerical values
    So, I was able to chart C2 … D11
    To refine the result, disable the display of labels on X axis and build a text block with the dates as I did for Graphique 2-1

  • How to get list data to Excel to create chart with date filter?

    Hi all,
    I have to create chart from a custom list in o365 site. There is one column named "Due Date" in my list. I want only those records whose Due Date is today or gone, I mean Due Date <= Today.
    How can do it?
    I have tried following ways.
    I have tried with REST (OData Data Feed) but not able to use Today's date (I mean dynamic) as filter.
    I have tried by Export to Excel my view and it is working but if I am uploading my excel file to o365 and refreshing data connection, it is showing error and not working.
    NOTE : I cannot user Power BI features like Power Query we have not that licences.
    Thanks,

    Hi Ritesh
    Not sure if I understood you correctly but what about creating a calculated field which has an if condition like
    if([Due Date]<=today(), "past", "future"
    and then just filter the 'past' / 'future' column?
    Kind regards,

  • Sorting by last 12 months in a Chart with data from the last 24 months

    Hi Guru's
    I am trying to create a Trend chart which will show the trend percentage vs previous year.
    In the X -axis I have Month wich is currently sorted by Jan, Feb, Mar etc ...Dec.
    The problem is that I want to show the last 12 months instead, but since I need data for the last 24 months to do so, I am having problems with the chart to show correct sorting.
    If this month is Oct 2011, I would want the chart to show the follwoing in the x axis:
    Oct10, Nov10, Dec10, Jan11,Feb11, Mar11, Arp11, May11, Jun11, Jul11, Aug11, Sep11.
    The problem is that in order for me to create the diff between previous year/month, the chart will either show last 24 months or 12 months thus causing the previous years values to disapear.
    So far I have managed to create a variable that will tell the age of the values in a month. The Chart is filtered and will now only contain data for the last 24 months. I have a variable which calculates the diff for each month agains previuos years values.
    So far so god, but how can I solve so that values are are included in the chart and sorted by the last 12 months?

    I discovered the solution, appereantly it was as easy as using the IN operator:
    =[Year] Where ([vAgeMonths] <= 12) In ([Time].[Short month])
    Now I am able to sort this by year and then month. Sometimes it helps tinkering a bit and a sollution will reveal it self.

  • From chart with no data available to chart with data problem

    Hi all,
    If in my application I set a filter (through a dropdown or any other component) to a datasource and this retrive no data in the chart area appears this standard image:
    But if in the next step I change again the filter to a dimension member where there is data, this appears:
    It's obviously wrong and in order to fix the chart I have to change again the filter:
    So basically every time the chart retrive no data I have to switch 2 times any filter in order to get the correct appearance.
    Why this kind of behaviour?
    Thanks,
    Michele

    Hello Michele,
    Today we found a work around for this issue .
    In my scenario , when ever I unchecked a check box, my two chart which is under a panel is displaying this "No data available" message.
    So what we did is first I hide my panel and re sized the Panel right margin, in the next line I enable the Panel of two charts and re sized to original size .Now no data available issue is not displaying.
    Sample  script
    PANEL_1.setVisible(false);
    PANEL_1_.setRightMargin (15);
    PANEL_1_.setVisible(true);
    PANEL_1.setRightMargin (0);
    Imp: This script I given inside a button so when ever no data available message shows then click on this button and inside that button we given the above code.
    Note: What I observed that this issue is occurring because of the chart component is not refreshing. So with the above option , the chart is refreshing and solving the issue .
    Please try this logic in your scenario and let us know if it helps !!
    I will work and update you if this code can be given inside a component so that user, no need to click on the Button to remove this error screen.
    Regards
    Arjun KT

  • Chart with data from different subject area

    What I want to draw in a single chart is the following (I made this up just to show my requirement)
    -The number of accounts by month (a line chart)
    -The number of activities by month (bar chart)
    Not all accounts necessary have any activity in a month.
    In excel I can have two data streams and I can use two Y-axis to present the two different data streams (# of accounts, # of activities). Is it possible to do this in Analytics? I look at the chart setup. It seems there is only one Y-axis. Is that the case?

    You can have 2 Y axis. Try the 3d charting mechanism and you may want to try a chart from a pivot stand point.

    I want to create a line chart with data from a SQL2K table to show how much server time each application uses per day. All data is defined a character.

    I want one horizontal line per application where the X-axis represents the date and the Y-axis represents the server time. I have tried all column combinations for "On Change Of" and "Show Value(s)". What confuses me is why are Count and Discount the only Summary Options for the "Show Value(s)" data?
    Thank you,

    I created a group based on date, day, then created the chart and put it in the group footer, on change of server, show sum of time, you will get a seperate chart for each day.  I am not sure if this will help, or will just do.  Since you have CR XI, you may want to look at the gauge chart also....
