Charts data axis scaling problem

Post Author: rameshp
CA Forum: Charts and Graphs
Hi ,
I work on crystal reports XI.
I'm facing problem regarding scaling data axis. I have illustrated that in the following lines:
case1) if i have high values (sum of bytes) like more than 600 etc. its scaling data axis from 0 to say 1000.
case 2) if i have low values like 0,1 (bytes)   then its scaling from -4 to say 6 .
I don't want negative values on data axis .  I want from 0 to max. So what's the better way to do this using chart expert.
Your suggestion is highly appreciated !
Thanks,
Ramesh.

satwar,
There is no "trick", we're just victims of the limitation that WebI has in portraying XYZ type charts to our better liking.  I submitted a request to Business Objects Tech Support in Oct 2006 and became the proud holder of two ADAPTs:
ADAPT00676587 u2013 for the scaling issueADAPT00676609 u2013 for the stacked bar chart, line graph issue
When fully implemented, the scaling for Y and Z should be able to correspond to each other.  For instance, max value of Y and max value of Z will set on both scales the same max value.  I don't discourage you from submitting a trouble-ticket, perhaps if they get more noise on this situation they'll resolve my (our) ADPAT sooner, but just hoping....

  • CR in VS2005: Line Chart Date Axis

    I believe this is posted in correct place:
    I have line chart that is displaying daily data.  I want to display a month worth of data with each day's data point plotted.
    The X axis is a system.datetime of the day for the data (actually group label); I have formatted this to mm/dd/yyyy in the format editor. My graph X axis labels are overwritting each other and I can not see how to 'scale' x axis labels to prevent this.
    In reviewing similar existing posts I see reference to options that do not appear to be available in Net VS2005 (recently updated CR and VS).
    Is this limitation of VS version of CR or am I doing something wrong ?
    Thank You, fd

    Thank You for your reply.  I belive that I may still be limited by version in visual studio 2005 (CR updated to 10.2.3600).
    When I right click on any object in graph I am presented with list 'Format Object' (border of chart, keep object togeather, etc), 'Chart Expert' (very limited selections: show grid, title text, etc) and 'Chart Options' (again very limited selections: Template,General,Titles,Grid). In the grid section chart options there is indeed a "data axis", "numbers" formatting section that allows for formatting as date but not any alignment etc.
    I am not adverse to purchasing an added CR designer but would like to clearly understand advantages.  It is also of concern that this "date" x axis should be treated as an x-y plot rather than the dates being used simply as labels.

  • Chart y axis scaling using msum

    hi,
    Is there any possibility to change the y-axis(sales- msum) range in the charts? I did search, but couldnt find the proper answer for this.
    Let us say I have my y-axis sales range 0 - 1million, but dont have any values under 0.8million. So I want to keep my chart y-axis range starts from 0.8million. I have the sales in the chart that is calculated using msum.
    Is there any such option to customize the y-axis scale ?
    Thanks,
    Mani

    Hi Mani,
    You can do that by setting minimum value and maximum value in Axis scaling tab(middle tab in 5 tabs for chart ) in chart view.

    Is there a trick to making the scaling on the
    Z-axis equal to the Y-axis. I don't want to specify the scaling on
    either axis because I am generating report with filtered "dimensons" in
    order to generate all measure charts for a given set of filters. The
    measures have various value ranges so by not specifying chart scales,
    the Y-axis is auto ranged, which is good, but so is the Z-axis, which
    is bad. I want both Y & Z axis to range together so I get a good
    visual comparison of the two measures being plotted.

  • Chart Data Axis (Y) Scale - keep constant over groups, dynamic for report

    Crystal XI
    I want to chart how many transactions there are at a teller, showing number of transactions per hour, with a separate chart for each day in a range that the user specifies at run time through paramaters.
    So I group on date at report level, and make my chart on change of hour show count of transactions, and that works.
    But using autoscale, EACH CHART is scaled on the Y axis, so for a day that has a peak of 5 tx per hour, that hour reaches top of chart, where next day, there is an hour with 100 tx.  So you can't tell at a glance that day 2 was busier than day 1.
    I like the auto scale, but I'd like it to consider the report for the scaling.  Is there a way to do that?  Or do some chart types let me do it and others don't?  (I've looked at Bar and Area charts)
    I can't use a fixed scale, because different customers have wildly different typical numbers.  (I could use a dynamically calculated fixed scale, but I don't see that that's an option)  If there's a way to use a formula for the data scale, I'm missing it, and that would probably solve my problem.
    Assuming I'm out of luck there - I can change the query as necessary, and I suspect I'm giong to have to use some gimmick like chart my maximum value in invisible ink, if someone's been down the road and knows a solution, if you can give me a quick hint on that, I'd appreciate it.

    If all else fails, you can do this easily with our CRChart add-in using the @SC family of macros which allow you to set the Y-Axis scale min/max dynamically (i.e. map them to a field or formula at runtime).

  • Waterfall chart data labels - not rendering in Flash

    I have a problem with the waterfall charts.  When I turn on the data labels, the charts fail to render in Flash - I get a axis and some garbled legend icons.  If I turn off the waterfall chart data labels, the problem goes away.  Clearly, there is some bug in the label coding.

    Make sure you have the "Refresh before components are loaded" option checked on your QaaWS connection for the monthly data in the connection manager of Xcelsius.
    To do this go to the connection manager in Xcelsius.  Go to the connection you want to edit.  Click the "Usage" tab.  Then check the first check box that reads "Refresh Before Components Are Loaded".
    This will run that query as soon as the dashboard is loaded.  I think what may be happening to you now is that you have set a trigger cell of some kind that says, "When cell X becomes "XYZ" run the monthly data query.  But when the dashboard is first loaded cell X does not equal "XYZ" therefore the query does not run initially.  But then when you click the weekly tab and the back to the monthly tab you are setting cell X to "XYZ", therefore the query runs at that point.
    Hope this helps,

  • Date Axis Stacked Area Charts

    Hi,
    I'm just evaluating the full version of Crystal Reports 2008 having had some frustrations with the design restrictions in the basic version that ships with Visual Studio 2008. Particularly important to me is the design features for charting data. A lot of the charts I need to build have daily data points and the dates for these data points are represented as labels on the X axis. My problem has been that when you try and build a report with several months or more worth of data points the X axis is getting way too crowded even to the extent of being unreadable with overlapping labels. I've noticed in the full version that there is a date axis chart type whereby you can alter the scale of the X axis e.g. to only show a date at a frequency once per month or greater resulting in the X axis being readable. This seems to work great for line charts etc, however one of the charts I need is a stacked area chart and unfortunately I can find no options / chart types that allow me to scale the dates on the X axis. I've seen there is a date axis chart for area charts, but there is no option of having this chart type as stacked. I know you can also skip data labels in X axis group options, but the max I can skip is 2 and so that doesn't really help me either.
    Is there any way of achieving a stacked area chart with a scaled date axis in Crystal Reports 2008? If not it seems to me that the lack of this feature is a real omission from the product. Even Excel charts can handle this type of chart and I would imagine Crystal Reports charts should be more advanced in its charting capabilities.
    Any help or recommendations would be appreciated.
    Kind Regards,
    Mark

    I have run in to the same problem.  I work for a systems integration company and I purchased this software because I have a lot of crystal reports and .NET experience but I have very minimal crystal chart experience.  I need to use the charting to display data over time collections.  I need to show all data points collected but for some series that I deal with I need to be able to scale the x-axis labels to something that is legible.  There is an aftermarket package(CRReports3.5) for $500 more dollars that would enable me to control this but it seems like alot more money for a small piece of functionality that should already be built in.  I have Crystal Reports 2008 and am working with visual studio 2008 can someone please tell me is there ANY WAY to achieve this functionality without purchasing additional software?  Otherwise this software purchase was worthless for my current project.

  • Problem with displaying chart data

    Hello everybody,
    I have problem with displaying chart data correctly. I'm using a cartesian chart with DateTimeAxis. The stockdata I'm using is for half a year and
    with ticks for every day. The problem is, that Flex displays the data of february in march together with the data of march. I have added a picture
    to show the result. The second column of the grid is for february and the third for march.
    Could anybody help me with this problem. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Chris,
    thanks for your reply. Here you get the source code:
    The following method creates the LineChart:
            public function init():void
                model.upperChart = this;
                model.upperChartStyle.setChartViewStyle(this);
                this.hAxis = new MyDateTimeAxis();
                model.upperChartData.configureHAxis(this.hAxis);
                this.vAxis = new LinearAxis();
                model.upperChartData.configureVAxis(this.vAxis);
                this.vAxisTitle = new Label();
                this.vAxisTitle.text = model.upperChartData.getVAxisTitle();
                model.upperChartStyle.setVAxisTitleLabelStyle(this.vAxisTitle);
                this.vAxisTitle.x = 10
                this.vAxisTitle.y = 0;
                this.addChild(this.vAxisTitle);
                this.myChart = new CartesianChart();
                //remove default datatip
                this.myChart.showDataTips = false;
                this.myChart.x = 10;
                this.myChart.y = 0;
                this.myChart.width = 768;
                this.myChart.height = 196;
                model.upperChartStyle.setChartStyle(this.myChart);
                this.addChild(this.myChart);
                //Remove line shadow
                this.myChart.seriesFilters = null;
                this.myChart.horizontalAxis = this.hAxis;
                this.myChart.verticalAxis = this.vAxis;
                this.hAxisRenderer = new AxisRenderer();
                model.upperChartData.configureHAxisRenderer(this.hAxisRenderer);
                this.hAxisRenderer.axis = this.hAxis;
                model.upperChartStyle.setHAxisRendererStyle(this.hAxisRenderer);
                this.myChart.horizontalAxisRenderers.push(this.hAxisRenderer);
                this.vAxisRenderer = new AxisRenderer();
                model.upperChartData.configureVAxisRenderer(this.vAxisRenderer);
                this.vAxisRenderer.axis = this.vAxis;
                model.upperChartStyle.setVAxisRendererStyle(this.vAxisRenderer);
                this.myChart.verticalAxisRenderers.push(this.vAxisRenderer);
                model.upperChartStyle.setVAxisDataLabelStyle(this.vAxisMinLabel);
                this.addChild(this.vAxisMinLabel);
                model.upperChartStyle.setSeriesStyle(model.upperChartData.series, model.upperChartData.shares);
                this.myChart.dataProvider = model.upperChartData.dataProvider;
                this.myChart.series = model.upperChartData.series;
    The data for dataprovider and series you can see in attached file dataprovider.xml.
    xfield is equivalent to timestamp
    yfield is equivalent to absolute
    I think the problem could be the configuration of the datetimeaxis. The following method shows the parameter for the datetimeaxis:
            public function configureHAxis(axis:MyDateTimeAxis):void
                axis.parseFunction = UtilityClass.parseYYYYMMDDHHNNSSString2Date;
                axis.dataUnits = "days";
                axis.dataInterval = 1;
                axis.title = "";
                axis.minimum = new Date(UtilityClass.parseYYYYMMDDHHNNSSString2Date("2009-01-07 00:00:00").time);
                axis.maximum = new Date(UtilityClass.parseYYYYMMDDHHNNSSString2Date("2009-07-06 00:00:00").time);
    And finally you get the function, that I'm using for string to date conversion:
            public static function parseYYYYMMDDHHNNSSString2Date(input:String):Date
                var result:Date = new Date();
                var year:Number = Number(input.substring(0,4));
                var month:Number = Number(input.substring(5,7));
                var date:Number = Number(input.substring(8,10));
                var hours:Number = Number(input.substring(11,13));
                var minutes:Number = Number(input.substring(14,16));
                var seconds:Number = Number(input.substring(17,19));
                result.setUTCFullYear(year);
                result.setUTCMonth(month-1);
                result.setUTCDate(date);
                result.setUTCHours(hours);
                result.setUTCMinutes(minutes);
                result.setUTCSeconds(seconds);
                return result;
    I hope that will help to locate the reason for the wrong chart visualization.
    Thanks for any help.

  • Log scaling intesity chart y-axis

    is it possible to change the scaling of the y-axis on an intesity chart to log scaling?

    Hi DNyg,
    This is actually a known issue in LabVIEW and CAR (corrective action request 372856) has been submitted to our research and development team. I have gone ahead and added this post to the CAR so they can see that more people have encountered this issue. In the meantime, a potential work-around would be to manually scale your Y-axis data logrithmically before wiring it into your intensity chart.

  • Waveform chart X-Axis reverses itself when upper limit is edited in Absolute Time - problem may be linked to Timestamp Control?

    I've seen this problem for some time now, and it still exists in the Silver toolset Waveform Chart in LV 2012.  If the chart is in strip mode, and you edit the upper limit value to a point in the future, the X-Axis will invert (higher values/ later time to the left), to the limit of the Chart History length.  This happens whether the chart is active (logging data on a compiled executable) or even when in design mode, though it's more consistent when there's data in the chart.  It's not history length related as far as I can tell, as I set the length to 7 days of sampling @ 1-second intervals (605K), and it happens when I try to set the end time to an hour in the future with only a few minutes of data collected - suddenly the right Absolute Time becomes the time my last sample point was collected, while the left Absolute Time becomes nearly 7 days in the future (so neither end point is what I was setting it to).
    It's nice that the chart gives the option of editing the limits, but as such, it's important that they work as you would expect them to.
    Also - until this is addressed, is there a way to lock it against editing?  Until a fix is made, my workaround is to put a transparent button over the range start & end points, and a transparent flat rectangle above all other mid-range points, and pop-up a data entry form with a Timestamp control to allow editing.  Unfortunately, this doesn't work as I would expect, as typing "11 AM" in the Timestamp control over a prior value of say "10:05:34.232 AM" ends up becoming "11:05:34.232 AM" instead.  ???  Another error - or is this by design?  If it's by design, is there an option to make it behave as I would prefer (11 AM = 11:00:00.000 AM), as Excel behaves with timestamps?  I can't help but suspect this may be linked to the chart axis issue.
    Also - I just built a simplified chart modeled somewhat on my current project, and could not get this to recur.  BUT... had the strangest thing happen:  My sample data was generated using the Trig functions for Sine and Cosine, and at one point my waveforms distorted on the display, so I'm attaching that here plus the simplified chart project.
    Last - my system is LV 2012 on Win7 Pro-x64.
    Thanks!

    I am not so sure that this is a bug, and I have not been able to reproduce this behavior that you are describing.
    But you can lock it from editing by right-clicking on the graph and go to Properties>>Appearance>>Enabled State --> Disabled
    Also, word of advice for the future: You will get more replies from the community with shorter posts and keeping it to one question per post. Summarize what the issue is, and put the detailed documentation and instructions to reproduce in the actual VI.

    Hi all,
    When i render a existing Crystal report 2011 through java SDK code(Eclipse) bar chart is working fine, But the Date Axis line chart is not displaying properly. the properties are getting changed.. Any clue how to handle this? Do we have particular jar for Chart?

  • SSAS2008 r2 and Excel Line Chart and Date Axis

    Hi
    Excel 2010. SSAS 2008 R2
    I have a excel line chart made out from SSAS pivot table with a date dimension (date) and No of licences.
    Currently, it displays 1/Jun/2014 to 30/Jun/2015 (FY2015) and this looks really ugly.
    While keeping the details, I'd like to display by Month-Year.
    However, while I can do this with other normal excel data, I just can not do it with SSAS Pivot table.
    Under Axis options, I ticked 'Date axis' but it won't bring up date options.
    I think I tried everything but just can not figure it out. I wonder if it is even possible.
    Th date dimension is recognised as date because I can apply date filter.  I want to make it neat. Can anyone help me with this please?
    It must be 'Date' Level.
    Kind regards

    Hi SQLMa,
    Could you please elaborate more detail regarding the "Date" dimension structure? In order to display the date format with Month-Year, we should build a hierarchy to organize the granularity of date dimension at SSAS level. Please

  • Date Axis in Charts

    I've seen the thread that says Numbers does not support a chart with a date axis. That is, a chart derived from a table that has a date column with dates irregularly spaced in time.
    For example, here's a table of visits to a supermarket and the price of Wheaties on each visit:
    DATE PRICE
    8/12/90 $3.50
    8/14/90 $3.60
    9/2/92 $4.30
    6/4/94 $4.00
    Right now, if you turn this into a chart, you get a graph with each data point paced equally apart. Useless. What you want is a chart with an x-axis that's a date range, with each data point plotted at the appropriate point along that range.
    I'm surprised that Apple doesn't support this feature. So, two questions.
    1. Anyone know if this is in the pipeline for the next version of Numbers? I'm ready to chuck Excel, but this is a show-stopper for me. Can't switch without this feature. Anyone know when the next version is due?
    2. Anyone know any reasonable workarounds?
    Thanks.

    Hello

    I really don't understand why.
    You had a 30 days free trial version giving enough time to see if the app was fitting your needs.
    But don't worry, it appears that you are numerous to do that.
    To be back to the app itself, it appears that the choices ruling dates are not perfectly consistent.
    For some aspects they looks like strings, for others, they look like numbers.
    I was acustomed to dates being a number displaid as a dateString.
    For instance, if a cell contains 37995 in an AW spreadsheet, when I give it the date format, it is displaid as: 10/01/2008 (I am using a French system).
    In Numbers it's not exactly that and I can't get it displaying 37995 as a date.
    In fact I knows, but it requires an AppleScript.
    If someone found a way to do that with Numbers's functions, I am interested.

  • Line chart x-axis label overloaded with labels

    Hi,
    I have a Line chart filled by a large resultset (hundreds of rows). Each row contains a decimal value and a timestamp. The interval between timestamps is short so it is impossible to plot every single date/time in the x-axis label because there is no space.
    I would like to hide the the x-axis label for most rows and plot this label for each x rows. Something like this:
      18/12/2009 09:00            18/12/2009 10:00           18/12/2009 11:00            18/12/2009 12:00
            |---------------------------|---------------------------|---------------------------|
    In the previous x-axis example there are many timestamps between 18/12/2009 09:00 and 18/12/2009 10:00 but they are not plotted in the chart. It is possible to do something like this in MII charts?

    Hi,
    I think Michael is right about the Ticks per label parameter. Looks like it is not working for me because the chart data binding is not behaving as expected.
    The chart rowset is composed by two fields: decimal and date time. The date time field is already converted to string. The rowset comes from a BLS transaction.
    I think this forum has no support for file upload so I will add links to the xMII workbench screenshots so you guys can see my chart/query configuration.

    When I run the chart I get this result: http://www.vetta-group.com:8080/imgs/chart1.PNG
    As you can see the chart has no X-Axis labels ans I need to add the date/time to the X-axis. If I add the field to "X-Axis label columns" the field values are ploted but the parameter "Ticks per label" is ignored and hundreds of labels are ploted together and is impossible to read them. I think the "Ticks per label" parameter only works for fields added to Labels columns (in data mapping). The problem I am facing is: when I add the date field (http://www.vetta-group.com:8080/imgs/data_mapping2.PNG) to Label columns I get an empty chart like this: http://www.vetta-group.com:8080/imgs/chart2.PNG
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thank you

  • SSRS 2008: Line chart Y-Axis scale issue

    Hi All,
    After search of one week, finally decided to put my question in front of you all. Hope I will get some outcome from it.
    Currently I am working on Line Chart. Following is the data which I need to bind to line chart.
        JobStartDate  JobStartTime   JobEndTime
        1/1/2015       01.00            02.30
        1/2/2015       01.02            03.20
        1/3/2015       01.01            03.40
        1/4/2015       01.05            02.00
        1/5/2015       22.03            23.30
        1/6/2015       22.05            23.40
    So, In above scenario Line chart looks like:
          11.00 PM |                          /////////
          10.00 PM |                          ..........
          ........ |
          04.00 AM |              /
          03.00 AM |    /  /
          02.00 AM |  /                /
          01.00 AM |  .....................
          12.00 AM |______________________________________________
                   1/1/15 1/2/15 1/3/15 1/4/15 1/5/15 1/6/15
    But it should be like :
          04.00 AM |                /
          03.00 AM |       /  /
          02.00 AM |    /                /
          01.00 AM |     .....................
          12.00 AM |
          11.00 PM |
          10.00 PM |
          09.00 PM |______________________________________________
                        1/1/15 1/2/15 1/3/15 1/4/15 1/5/15 1/6/15
    (Sorry As cant upload the image. So, Tried to show as above.)
    In above figure (.) is StartTime and (/) is EndTime.
    You can see that I am facing the problem of Y-Axis scaling.
    Hope everyone understand my problem. Please let me know more explanation.

    Hi Prashant Khadatkar,
    As per my understanding, you created a line chart, you added JobStartTime and JobEndTime to values area, and added JobStartDate to category groups. You want to display data of y axis from PM to AM. In order to improve the efficiency of troubleshooting, I
    need to ask several questions:
    What’s the data type of JobStartTime and JobEndTime?
    Is the data stored in database the same as you provided?
    What’s the state of report now? Please provide some more detailed information of the report. I would be appreciated it if you could provide sample data and screenshot of the report.
    This may be a lot of information to ask for at one time. However, by collecting this information now, it will help us move more quickly toward a solution.
    Thanks,
