whether this syntax is correct.........What "other syntax item"?
First, just for sanity, whenever you mix 'and' and 'or' logic, it helps to use parentheses to clarify the order of logic, even if you think you understand how it will be applied by default:
WHERE ITEM LIKE(' ') OR ITEM IS NULL AND EMPID=10001;
WHERE (ITEM LIKE(' ') OR ITEM IS NULL) AND EMPID=10001;
WHERE ITEM LIKE(' ') OR (ITEM IS NULL AND EMPID=10001);
Second, the argument for LIKE should always include the wild-card. Some earlier versions of Oracle treated "LIKE ('xyz')" the same as "LIKE ('xyz%')", leading developers to believe that the wild-card was assumed by default. This was actually a bug corrected in later versions.
Also about LIKE, what do you expect your statement to return if a row has ITEM=' xyz' ?
Address those two issues and see if you still have a problem.

  • SharePoint PPS Hide null or blank value in performancePoint chart drill down.

    Hi,
    I am using SharePoint Performance Point Service. Hide null or blank value in Performance Point chart drill down.
    Thanks & Regards
    Poomani Sankaran

    Hi Hyaron,
    I am unable to reproduce the issue in my test environment. How did you add the drilldown feature? Were you doing that by setting visibility of the column or of the group? Please ensure to add the drilldown functionality by set the visibility of the workgroup
    from the Grouping Pane in the Report Designer.
    How did you add the Interactive Sorting on the headers of the two columns? Based on the drilldown functionality, the Interactive Sorting on the second column doesn’t work. So, you can move the Interactive Sorting on the second column. When configuring the
    Interactive sorting on the first column, you should set the parent group to sort, and sort by the field that the parent group groups by.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to save byte[] value to Oracle table?...

    ... what would be the data type in table for the column? THanks.

    I was thinking doing toString() to convert it to a String to insert to Oracle table. My question is actually would it to be safe to retrieve it later on to compare with anther byte[]? Thanks.

  • Best Practice for Extracting a Single Value from Oracle Table

    I'm using Oracle Database 11g Release 11.2.0.3.0.
    I'd like to know the best practice for doing something like this in a PL/SQL block:
    DECLARE
        v_student_id    student.student_id%TYPE;
    BEGIN
        SELECT  student_id
        INTO    v_student_id
        FROM    student
        WHERE   last_name = 'Smith'
        AND     ROWNUM = 1;
    END;
    Of course, the problem here is that when there is no hit, the NO_DATA_FOUND exception is raised, which halts execution.  So what if I want to continue in spite of the exception?
    Yes, I could create a nested block with EXCEPTION section, etc., but that seems clunky for what seems to be a very simple task.
    I've also seen this handled like this:
    DECLARE
        v_student_id    student.student_id%TYPE;
        CURSOR c_student_id IS
            SELECT  student_id
            FROM    student
            WHERE   last_name = 'Smith'
            AND     ROWNUM = 1;
    BEGIN
        OPEN c_student_id;
        FETCH c_student_id INTO v_student_id;
        IF c_student_id%NOTFOUND THEN
            DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('not found');
        ELSE
            (do stuff)
        END IF;
        CLOSE c_student_id;
    END;
    But this still seems like killing an ant with a sledge hammer.
    What's the best way?
    Thanks for any help you can give.
    Wayne

    Do not design in order to avoid exceptions. Do not code in order to avoid exceptions.
    Exceptions are good. Damn good. As it allows you to catch an unexpected process branch, where execution did not go as planned and coded.
    Trying to avoid exceptions is just plain bloody stupid.
    As for you specific problem. When the SQL fails to find a row and a value to return, what then? This is unexpected - if you did not want a value, you would not have coded the SQL to find a value. So the SQL not finding a value is an exception to what you intend with your code. And you need to decide what to do with that exception.
    How to implement it. The #1 rule in software engineering - modularisation.
    E.g.
    create or replace function FindSomething( name varchar2 ) return foo.col1%type is
      id foo.col1%type;
    begin
      select col1 into id from foo where col2 = upper(name);
      return( id );
    exception when NOT_FOUND then
      return( null );
    end;
    And that is your problem. Modularisation. You are not considering it.
    And not the only problem mind you. Seems like your keyboard has a stuck capslock key. Writing code in all uppercase is just as bloody silly as trying to avoid exceptions.

    I have created one table ,that table contains 40 million records and some of the columns containing precision values and the columns are of datatype is NUMBER...
    I need to remove precision values of those columns for 40 millions records which ever contains ,If I use update truncate scripts it's taking so long time to update ( for .eg. more than 2 weak to update --- update table_name set transaction_id=trunc(transaction_id) ).Is there any other way...
    so can you please suggest ....
    Thanks,

    hi marcopb,
    Below I have mentioned some columns in bold, which i am updating . yes it's taking to update more than 2 weak not yet finished...
    My update script is Update Inv.Mtl_Material_Transactions Set Transaction_Id=Trunc(Transaction_Id),Transaction_Action_Id=Trunc(Transaction_Action_Id),
    Transaction_Source_Id=Trunc(Transaction_Source_Id),Rcv_Transaction_Id =Trunc(Rcv_Transaction_Id );

  • How to use Oracle Table Type values in Select Statement.

    Hi,
    I am fetching initial set of values into Oracle Table of Records Type and want to use list of values in the Select statement.
    For example, try something like the following:
    TYPE t_record IS RECORD (
    ID TABLEA.ID%type,
    NO TABLEA.NO%type,
    v_record t_record;
    TYPE t_table IS TABLE OF v_record%TYPE;
    v_table t_table;
    -- Code to populate the values in v_table here.
    SELEC ID,NO, BULK COLLECT INTO <some other table variabes here> FROM TABLEA
    WHERE ID IN v_table(i).ID;
    I want to know how to use the values from Oracle Table Type in the Select Statement.

    Something like this:
    create or replace type t_record as  object (
    id number,
    no number
    CREATE or replace type t_table AS TABLE OF t_record;
    set serveroutput on
    declare
      v_table t_table := t_table();
      v_t1 t_table := t_table();
    begin
      v_table.extend(1);
      v_table(1).ID := 1;
      v_table(1).No := 10;
      v_table.extend(1);
      v_table(2).ID := 2;
      v_table(2).ID := 20;
      SELEC t_record (ID,NO) BULK COLLECT INTO v_t1
      from TableA
      FROM TABLEA
      WHERE ID IN (select t.ID from table(v_Table) t);
      for i in 1..v_t1.count loop
        dbms_output.put_line(v_t1(i).ID);
        dbms_output.put_line(v_t1(i).No);

  • Oracle Table Values are not displayed when tried to display with Essbase

    Hi,
    I was trying to create a report with Oracle RDB Table and Essbase by following the steps given in "Federating Essbase and Relational Data Sources in Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition Plus" document at the location http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe_bi/bi_ee_1013/fed_data/fed_data.html.
    I am able to see the members from the Essbase cubes and I can also see the Oracle Table values, if they are displayed individually (i.e. different reports) but when I try to get one report with Essbase values with Oracle table records then Oracle table records are not displayed and when see the query log I don't see the query for Oracle table but I see obviously MDX queries for the essbase.
    Please help.
    Regards,
    Paresh

    Hi,
    Smitha, you can defnetly use dynamic table in interactive form. I had similar problem and I acheived like follwing:Basically you have to bind the table .
    If you want to have fixed number of rows in the interactive form, then in wddoinit method bind the internal table to ur table node. for exmaple: if u want 2 rows in the form loop times . So by default when you open the form you will get two rows for the table.
    **************BIND THE ITAB ****************************
    DO 2 TIMES.
    APPEND LW_LFBK TO LT_LFBK.
    CLEAR LW_LFBK.
    ENDDO.
    CALL METHOD lo_nd_t_lfbk->bind_table
    EXPORTING
    new_items = LT_LFBK.
    If you want to have dynmic table then take a submit button in the form instead of normal button,
    in onaction submit write a loop every time you click that new submit button it should add a new row.
    use above coding in onactionsubmit instead of doinit.
    Thats it.
    Regards,
    Ravi

  • Inserting blank values and retrieving blank values

    I really want to Insert blank values into Oracle database,and also want to retrieve blank values from table.
    When I try to insert blank values ,Its inserting null values.
    I don't want to insert null for blank.
    Please provide me solution for this.
    Thank you

    user631179, logically if you have a descrition or other printable
    character column where the value is blanks you do not have a value.
    The data item is logically unknown or non-existent, hence NULL.
    You can assign blanks (spaces) for NULL in the querying program
    like SQLPlus does on display. The Pro*C and other language tools
    provides null indicator bytes for this purpose.

  • Delete a range of rows in Oracle Table

    How do i delete a range of values in Oracle Table using SQL Pus. For example i have iwanted to delete rows with user_id from 12344 ~ 12399

    ustin thanks for the earlier help. Part of the requiremnt is met, now the tester can delete the rage of rows from 'dropbox', table. I am quiet not done in my second of the requirement. And that is pull the first 100 or 200 etc rows from the parent table (user_auth), and delete them from (dropbox). user_auth does not get affected. I able to user rank and dense_rank by create_time against user_auth table, and get the first 100 or 200 rows. However when join with dropbox, for example dropbox.user_id=user_auth.user_id. Query get hunged. I am not sure do i need to write a procedure for this, or a can be acieved by SQL. This is a test env.

  • Conversion of csv in flat file to oracle table format

    hi friends
    I have written a C code for conversion of flat file data to Comma seperated values
    Now i have to put this .csv file into oracle tables.
    Please suggest me a solution to this so that i can put this values into oracle tables
    Regards,
    Mahesh

    You can use Sql*Loader (sqlldr) :
    TEST@db102 SQL> create table test (a varchar2(30), b varchar2(30), c varchar2(30));
    Table created.
    TEST@db102 SQL> exit
    Disconnected from Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production
    With the Partitioning, OLAP and Data Mining options
    $ cat test.csv
    aaa,bbb,ccc
    ddd,eee,fff
    111,222,333
    $ cat test.ctl
    load data
    infile 'test.csv'
    replace into table test
    fields terminated by ','
    (a char, b char, c char)
    $ sqlldr test/test control=test.ctl

    Thanks Lyndon, what I need is map any table someone create in Excel worksheet to Oracle repository.For example to map Excel worksheet(employee)table with its 2 columns to oracle table META_OBJECTTYPES(OBJECTTYPEID pk,OBJECTTYPENAME,OBJECTTYPEDESC, OBJECTMETATYPE,OBJECTDOMAIN). In my case I have 2 objecttypes 1)table(employee) and 2nd columns:employee_id,employee_name
    --for inserting table info manually into DB:
    INSERT INTO META_OBJECTS
    (OBJECTKEY, OBJECTTYPEID,OBJECTNAME,OBJECTDESC)
    VALUES
    (META_OBJECTS_SEQ.NEXTVAL,
    4, --TABLE
    'employee',--notice this is table name from Excel worksheet
    'Table to store employee info')
    --for inserting columns info:
    INSERT INTO META_OBJECTS
    (OBJECTKEY, OBJECTTYPEID,OBJECTNAME,OBJECTDESC)
    VALUES
    (META_OBJECTS_SEQ.NEXTVAL,5,'employee_id or name','employee column')
    notice above I insert manually Excel worksheet employee table with its two cols into oracle meta_objecttypes. What I want is VB to do this I mean if I go to Toad and erase what I insert in meta_objecttypes when I run vb, the program should map table employee with its 2 cols to Toad(DB). I hope it is clear now. Please refer to 1 st post for 3 other tables in DB

    Private Sub TextBox1_TextChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles TableName.TextChanged
    End Sub
    End Class

    Don't know if this will help you or not, but I have some code that will read from and Excel spreadsheet and put the data into a DataSet (i'm sure something else could be used).
    string connectionString =
    @"Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=d:\\testRead.xls;Excel 12.0;HDR=YES;IMEX=1";
    DbProviderFactory factory =
    DbProviderFactories.GetFactory("System.Data.OleDb");
    DbDataAdapter adapter = factory.CreateDataAdapter();
    DbCommand selectCommand = factory.CreateCommand();
    selectCommand.CommandText = "SELECT * FROM [dogs$]";
    DbConnection connection = factory.CreateConnection();
    connection.ConnectionString = connectionString;
    selectCommand.Connection = connection;
    adapter.SelectCommand = selectCommand;
    DataSet cities = new DataSet();
    adapter.Fill(cities);
    GridView1.DataSource = cities;
    GridView1.DataBind();
    Your provider might be different; the one above is for Office 2007. The [dogs$] in the selectCommand.commandText is the name of the worksheet in Excel.
    Hope this helps

  • How to make blank value as null in table using DQS

    Hi
    I am using DQS in SSIS. It makes null value from source table as blank in destination table by DQS_NULL feature.
    I want to make that null value as 'Null' in the destination table after applying DQS.
    How is it possible.
    Thanks
    Nidhi

    Thanks for the reply.
    When I am using (Coulmn) == "" ? NULL(DT_WSTR,225) : Coulmn for making blank as null it is working fine.
    But it is making null as string, but I don't want to use null as string. As I am using Null in my stored procedure to load sub region data where "country is null".
    If I will use above expression of derived column it will make it as string which is not recommended in my case.
    Do you have any solution for it.
