This section details the most common business scenarios u2013 those that benefit most from the application of best practices.
    Sales and Marketing
SAP Best Practices for Chemicals supports the following sales and marketingu2013related business processes:
Sales order processing u2013 In this scenario, SAP Best Practices for Chemicals supports order entry, delivery, and billing. Chemical industry functions include the following:
u2022 Triggering an available-to-promise (ATP) inventory check on bulk orders after sales order entry and automatically creating a filling order (Note: an ATP check is triggered for packaged material.)
u2022 Selecting batches according to customer requirements:
u2022 Processing internal sales activities that involve different organizational units
Third-party and additional internal processing u2013 In this area, the SAP Best Practices for Chemicals package provides an additional batch production step that can be applied to products previously produced by either continuous or batch processing. The following example is based on further internal processing of plastic granules:
u2022 Purchase order creation, staging, execution, and completion
u2022 In-process and post process control
u2022 Batch assignment from bulk to finished materials
    u2022 Repackaging of bulk material
SAP Best Practices for Chemicals features several tools that help you take advantage of chemical industry best practices. For example, it provides a fully documented and reusable prototype that you can turn into a productive solution quickly. It also provides a variety of tools, descriptions of business scenarios, and proven configuration of SAP software based on more than 35 years of working with the

SAP Functions in Detail u2013 SAP Best Practices for Chemicals
The package can also be used to support external toll processing such as that required for additional treatment or repackaging.
Tank-trailer processing u2013 In this scenario, SAP Best Practices for Chemicals helps handle the selling of bulk material, liquid or granular. It covers the process that automatically adjusts the differences between the original order quantities and the actual quantities filled in the truck. To determine the quantity actually filled, the tank trailer is weighed before and after loading. The delta weight u2013 or quantity filled u2013 is transmitted to the SAP software via an order confirmation. When the delivery for the sales order is created, the software automatically adjusts the order quantity with the confirmed filling quantity. The customer is invoiced for the precise quantity filled and delivered.
    Supply Chain Planning and Execution
SAP Best Practices for Chemicals supports supply chain planning as well as supply chain execution processes:
Supply and demand planning u2013 Via the SAP Best Practices for Chemicals package, SAP enables complete support for commercial and supply-chain processes in the chemical industry, including support for integrated sales and operations planning, planning strategies for bulk material, and a variety of filling processes with corresponding packaging units. by goods receipt
    Manufacturing Scenarios

u2022 Warehouse management u2013 Enables you to identify locations where materials
or batch lots are stored, recording details such as bin location and other storage information on dangerous goods to help capture all information needed to show compliance with legal requirements

    1) As per the SAP Quick quide i have downloaded best practise for chemical industry(IS) and implemented through SAINT,  and the prerequisites were maintained as per the SAP notes 774615,1301301,1064635,
2)The above mentioned notes explains minimum stack11 and sapka=18,sapkb=18,sapbw=20,PI_Basis-2005_1_700=20 and sap_ap=15 to update Ehp3 for SAP_APPL603.
    3) After updating all the above mentioned patch level i implemented the Best practise in saint and that was successful.
But still  the problem persist in activation of BP by tcode /n/smb/bbi only 70% has been completed and activation stoped with *ABAP program error ASSIGNSUBSTRING_NOT_ALLOWED and relevent note is 1295083*_
Please  any one tell me, is that required to update all the EHP3 components since i have maintained only SAP_APPL60304.

  • KANBAN is possible in Chemical Industry?

    hi all,
is it possible to implement KANBAN in Chemical Industry?
while KANBAN is a part of JIT(Just In time).
    BR
    Rajeev

what makes you think that this would be impossible for a chemical industry.
KANBAN is not specific to an industry . it is a process. it does not matter whether you have solid or fluid parts.

  • Best Practices for Chemical Industry - US or Germany

    Hello All,
We are at the initial stage of implementation. The Client is US based but having presence across the globe. This is going to be phasewise implementation and NA is 1st region to Go-Live next year, followed by LA, APAC and EU. Now the dilema is to which BP for Chemicals to be implemented - US or Germany. Is there any way to weigh the pros and cons for these two. How do one decide on this? Sorry if this sounds very simple or basic question.
    rgds..Ameet

    Hello fox,
I had a dream of connecting the ERP system with the SCADA with the PLC and get a real time information from the production floor.
    I have encountered several SCADA solution on SAP, that solution follows like this;
    SAP - SCADA - OPC - PLC.
My question is that, why do we need to install the OPC ?
All the necessary information (kg. meter, labour cost, electricity)  is already placed in PLC. However, quantities are expressed, kg. meter and hours, kw, in PLC.
So, in order to interpret those into amount we need another device, which is I believe, SCADA.
So, once the all the quantities are interpreted into amount in SCADA we can transfer them into cost centers in SAP.
What is the role of SCADA ? They can get the information from PLC directly and transfer it to SAP.
And also I assume that all the consumption go to the necessary cost centers. Am I right ?
    For example;
    DIRECT PRODUCTION COSTS  $22
      Electricity Costs   $5
      Labour Costs       $7
      Raw Material       $10
Is it working like this ?
Could you explain to me ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Bayram

  • Industry sector in material master

    Dear all,
May I know what are the guide lines to select Industry sector to configure material master.
What are all the SAP standard Industry sector available?
Can we use any indutry sector for any type of business. How to choose this.
    please advise.
    Thanks
    Udaya

    Hello Udaya,
    Branch of industry.
The industry sector groups together companies according to their activities (for example, plant engineering and construction, mechanical engineering, the chemical industry, and the pharmaceutical industry).
Table-driven program support is provided according to industry sector; for example, for the selection of data fields on-screen, for the sequence of the screens, and for the allocation of a material to a material type.
    Industry Sector :
Key that specifies the branch of industry to which the material is assigned.
    Use
When you create a material master record, the industry sector you specify determines
which screens appear and in what order
which industry-specific fields appear on the individual screens.
    Thanks
    Geeta

  • Is business area and industry sector are same.

    Hi All,
is company code  is related to industry sector in any way???
is industry sector related thro business area then, or  is business area and industry sector are one and the same.
    Thanks
    Sathsih

    Dear Satish,
Business Area - Organizational unit of external accounting that corresponds to a specific business segment or area of responsibility in a company. Movements in value entered in Financial Accounting are assigned to business areas.
Financial statements can be created for business areas for internal purposes.
The definition of the business area organizational unit is optional.
Business areas are used in external segment reporting (over and above company codes), based on the significant areas of operation of a company (for example, product lines, branches).
To define business areas, choose the following in Customizing for the Enterprise Structure: Definition -> Financial Accounting -> Define Business Area.
If you have defined business areas, the transaction figures for the G/L accounts are managed separately for internal evaluation purposes. You can therefore create internal financial statements for business areas.
If you want to create financial statements for business areas, you must make sure that the Business area field is ready for input in all the line items. To do this, proceed as follows in Customizing for Financial Accounting: Financial Accounting Global Settings -> Business Area -> Enable Business Area Balance Sheet.
To post items in a business area, enter the business area when you enter the business transaction. However, the business area can also be derived from other account assignments, such as the cost center. To enable the system to do this, you must define the business area in the cost center master record.
If you enter a cross-company code document, you can post to different business areas across all company codes in one document. As a result, any number of combinations of company code and business area are possible.
Industry Sector - When you create a material master record, you are required to classify the material according to industry sector and material type.
The standard system contains the following industry sectors. The ID used to identify the industry sector internally appears in parentheses.
    ·        Plant engineering and construction (A)
    ·        Chemical industry (C)
    ·        Mechanical engineering (M)
    ·        Pharmaceuticals (P)
The other sectors are for retail.
    Regards,
    Naveen.
