Choosing the correct clustering method

Hi, I currently have a small 3 server environment (win 2012), 1 PDC, and 2 Servers running hyper-v. I have 8 or so hyper v machines on one of the servers and using hyper-v replica to replicate all of them to the other server. I woud like to upgrade
this to something that will provide hot migration/failover for the VM's. I was considering having a storage cluster with 2 machines for storage and a VM cluster with 2 machines for migration. My confusion is what to cluster? Do I cluster the physical machines,
the VM's or both? Note SQL server is running on one of the VM's.
Lee

"if I take 2 servers with lots of storage I can cluster the to provide highly available file storage that I could then provide as shared storage for the Hyper-V machines"
Yes, that can be done with third party software (slog, datacore, starwind). It will mirror the storage between the two Hyper-V hosts and present the storage back to the Hyper-V hosts as shared storage for a cluster.  Normally, the storage is totally
separate from either machine - SAN or shared external storage - but these companies have provided a niche solution that will allow for a supported Hyper-V clustering solution.
"would the host Hyper-V machines need to be clustered, or just the VMs or both"
Depends on what you want to do.  Any of those is possible.  Clustering at the Hyper-V level ensures that if a host fails, the VM is restarted on another node in the cluster.  Think of this as HA at the operating system level.  Clustering
at the VM level ensures that should the VM or the application fail on the running VM, the application is automatically moved to another node in the cluster.  Think of this as HA at the application level.  Clustering at both levels provides both levels
of HA.  Clustering at the VM (application) layer provides an environment where the recovery of the application is faster.  When an application, such as SQL is clustered, it is actually running on two or more nodes in the cluster.  Should something
happen on the active SQL node, the database ownership is simply transferred to another SQL instance in the cluster that is already running, providing for a relatively quick recovering.  If the Hyper-V hosts are clustered and you have a single VM running
SQL, the VM will restart on another node in the cluster.  Since the operating system and SQL have to start (a reboot), it will take a bit longer for the SQL instance to come back to life.  That's why I say you need to figure out what sort of recovery
times you need in your environment and then provide the level of availability that you need.

    When importing a CD, the "CD Lookup Results" dialogue box came up and I choose the wrong CD title.  Now iTunes is wanting to import a different song list than the one on my CD.  I've shut down my computer and opened iTunes from the hard drive Program Files and tried to import the CD again with the same problem.  How can I retrieve the "CD Looup Results" diaglogue box to choose the correct CD title to fit the song list on my original CD?

    You might also be able to do it without importing the songs again I think. Just highlight the tracks, right click them and choose "Get Track Names". This feature only works on CDs that were imported via iTunes.

    I am sending a single-page poster in Illustrator to a commercial printer. There are several placed graphics and I want to choose the correct file-type to keep my Illustrator file nice and small.

    Printers like PDFs, but you should consult with the print vendor before you save the file in any particular format.  Each vendor is different and have an established workflow.  They may not accept JPGs.  If the poster prints offset, you will need to supply the appropriate resolution per their request or what they require. If the poster is large format or grand format, then they will or should know what resolution is appropriate.  However, large format inkjet only requires 144-150ppi at 100% final size.  Try to get in the habit of consulting with the print vendor early on so you end up supplying what is needed.

    Hi,
    Most of the time I look back at the past life of mine and check my self about the mistakes, what I have done and same will be taken care in coming future to make sure that same would not be repeated. I suggest that take a piece of white paper and draw the pro's and con's of both Job Offers (Not in terms of Salary - but the Job Work and exporsure which you are getting), after all those check for salary. Don't compromise on work perspective and you can compromise on salary with out any Issues. I have done a mistake - so you don't do that with respect one the leading Organizations.

  • Help Choosing The Correct App Flow

    I have a client that needs certain functionality that I am having trouble coming up with the best solution.
    The client has a video academy. Features needed in the academy:
    1. There is a monthly fee for academy membership
    2. Only one new video added to the academy each month. The academy will launch with 4 videos available.
    3. Member may choose between the current months video or a past months video as their video of choice for the current month.
    4. Member may also choose more than one video for current month (There is a charge for each additional video chosen)
    5. Once member chooses a video/videos for current month those videos is placed in the Members Portal Video Library and is always available to member as long as they keep membership status current
    6. EACH INDIVIDUAL VIDEO IS ONLY AVAILABLE TO THOSE MEMBERS WHO HAVE CHOSE THAT ACTUAL VIDEO AS THEIR VIDEO OF CHOICE FOR THE MONTH
    7. THE USER MUST CHOOSE THEIR VIDEO FOR THE MONTH OR THE DEFAULT CURRENT MONTHS VIDEO WILL BE ADDED TO THER VIDEO LIBRARY.
    Everyones ideas and suggestions are welcome and appreciated, Actually I would love a good debate on why one method is better than another.

    I agree with Silkrooster's answer, however I will also say that starting by taking a "good" photo will help you a ton, even before you bring it into a photo editor. It may just be that you need to create a makeshift lighting setup (to avoid problematic shadows), or try taking your photos with a tripod (to avoid blurring).
    Here is a link with some really great tips to help you with product photography.
    I would also recommend that you check out Adobe Lightroom, which is a program created specifically for photographers. Below is a video showing how a photo can be vastly improved in 5 minutes! I hope you find this helpful.

  • Please help me to choose the correct version for my needs

    Hi. Currently we have an ESXi server with 2 virtualized windows server 2012 standard edition. I want to setup a new server. His role will only be WDS. The server will have to be a domain controler in order to use WDS or is it not necessary ? If not could
    i choose a foundation edition ? I must be able to deploy until 30 images at the same time. Thank you.

    WDS has an option to be installed on a domain controller but it does not have to be a domain controller.  It makes sense to have it as a member of a domain.

    Hi Deva.......
    Welcome to SAP Forum........
    As you mentioned you are SAP Business One Consultant and now you want to switch to R/3.
    So you have to evaluate your interest and expertise in which module of SAP B1 do you have?
    If you are strong in Financial and Banking Module then you must Opt FICO for R/3 and if you are strong at Logistic part then you have to Opt for SD/MM/PP.
    If you are good at Admin and Networking Part then you have to go for SAP BASIS. if you are strong in Payroll then you must Opt SAP HR.....
    So you have to only decide where you have o go as per your Expertise.......

  • When iTunes Match, matches the incorrect song, is there a way of removing that song from iTunes Match and then choosing the correct song?

    I have had iTunes Match now for a year. It's great. However the more I listen to my library the more songs I come across dodgy sounding songs, incorrect songs and censored songs.  Especially when listening to a Kings of Leon album and the main song is incorrect on in iTunes Match!  I've read that there is no cure, but when will Apple be making it correct (all in needs is a "get info" kind of thing).  If deleting the albums off iTunes and iTunes Match then re-adding them in to the cloud then I can do that. In the grand scheme of things it's only a handful of songs in 20k - but albums I listen to regularly!

    You don't need to access your e-mail account, just get into your Apple account and change the e-mail address. If you can't access your Apple account, then you have a bigger issue to contend with.

  • How do I print a PDF that contains mixed paper sizes (letter and legal) so that my printer choosing the correct paper tray for each page?

    I have followed the instructions here:
    Print mixed page sizes | Acrobat, Reader
    But it did not work!  I'm using a Mac OSX 10.9.3, Reader 10.1.10

    I found out that, apparently, this just plan doesn't work on the Mac version of Adobe Reader.  Thanks, Adobe, for a crappy experience.

  • Choosing the correct structure

    I'm a relative noob to Java, and am trying to store some attributes relating to table(s) i've loaded from the database.
    I need to be able to store data about the table columns. ie. ColumnLabel, columnStyle, displayColumn, columnHref, displayColumn etc...
    Initially I thought about a 2d Array of Hashmaps, where Array index one is the table number, and two is the column number. However I don't want to hardcode the max number of tables and/or columns.
    So I have looked at an ArrayList of Hashmaps, which would work nicely for a single table, and set of columns.
    My question is, because there are multiple tables being returned can I have an ArrayList of an ArrayList of Hashmaps? Anyone got any examples? Alternatively I am quite comfortable with having a max limit for the number of tables, as that will be fairly static in the Java, so would it be easier to have an Array of ArrayList of Hashmaps?
    Or am going off at a tangent completely? Thanks in advance for any answers.

    The tables are static I have a prepared statement for each, and then call a generic routine to turn them into xHTML table statements.
    The reason for this extra structure is to be able to apply further styling ie. Column Headers, URL's to the columns, decide whether to display columns or not.
    So the structure I was thinking of and that is needed would be:
    Table Fred (Table 1) // Array??
    Column 1 // ArrayList??
    Label "Column Name" // hashmap??
    URL "http:// ... " // hashmap
    Display = "true" // hashmap
    Column 2
    Label "Column Name 2"
    URL "http:// ... "
    Display = "true"
    Column 3
    Label "Column Name 3"
    URL "http:// ... "
    Display = "true"
    Table Bill (Table 2)
    Column 1
    Label "Column Name"
    URL "http:// ... "
    Display = "true"
    Column 2
    Label "Column Name 2"
    URL "http:// ... "
    Display = "true"
    Column 3
    Label "Column Name 3"
    URL "http:// ... "
    Display = "true"
    There won't be massive volumes of data, say 5 tables with 8 columns in each, I don't really like the idea of concatenating table name with column number, because I still need a hashmap for each, combination.

  • Choosing the correct compression to avoid constant rendering??

    Hello all. I am working on a project involving one long video file on my timeline where I am simply using scale and opacity keyframing to demonstrate something. My issue is that every time I make a new key frame, I have to render the entire clip all over again. And at ~26:00 per render per key frame... you get my drift.
    My sequence setting is Apple Intermediate Codec 720p30 and my footage is a .MOV with Animation compressor.
    Is there a format I can convert the original footage to with MPEG Streamclip, perhaps, that will avoid me having to render all video for every tiny change?

    Hi -
    I assume this is some kind of graphics software output?
    Create a new sequence with the sequence settings you want.
    Drop the clip on that timeline.
    Go to the menu File > Export > Quicktime Movie and Export the entire clip. It will take the 26 or more minutes to render and export it.
    Once it it exported, then import that newly created clip and work with that. It should not require rendering on your timeline, until you create an effect that is beyond the real-time capabilities of your computer.
    As a tip, every time you get an effect set and rendered, use the blade tool to cut the timeline after the effect. This will create a boundary that will keep any future manipulation from affecting the work you have already done, and you won't have to re-render from the start.

  • Choosing the correct domain name

    Hi
    I just need a bit of advice about domain names. I have a commercial mail order company and couldn't get the .co.uk version of my company name so chose the .info equivalent - http://www.thelittlethings.info - I am constantly anxious about it, believing that my domain address will always be inferior to the .co.uk version. Asking around, some people don't think it makes much difference but I just wanted to find out if anyone has strong views on the subject - I think I will get a better idea from those who actually build websites. I have bought The-Little-Things.co.uk but I think this is a bit of a hassle to enter and to say even. I have noticed now that .eu and .me.uk are now available since I bought .info and I was wondering what people's opinions of these are. Alternatively I have thought of playing with the company name in the domain name slightly so I could get the .co.uk - please help!

    The length of the name doesn't rellay matter in this day and age. Something memorable that rolls off the tongue I think works best.
    Although I can't think of any at the moment it seems to be 'the rage' with webdesigners/advertisers to get domain names for companies that are all about their taglines and or current gimmick. I am forever seeing adverts on TV for things where the URL seems to have nothing to do with the company at all.

  • Cant fiquer out how to choose the correct sequence settings for HD

    I edit for over 50 shooters whom I never have contact with. I get every possible file format & never the parameters they shot in. In FCP all I had to do was drag the footage to an empty sequence & it would automatically adjust it to the exact sequence parameters. In PP I always get either a yellow bar or red bar on everything I try to edit and the footage in the program window is always very strobey whether I set it for field or frame display. (All DV footage I have no issue with, it's only HD files)
    In Premiere CS5 I am finding it frustrating. Is there a program that cam read all the important codec info so at least I can dig for a sutible sequence? I tryed gspot but it doesn't tell much & PP CS5 clip properties doesn't seem to be of much help either.
    Am I missing something in my approach?

    Footage like DVCPROHD (P2 MXF) and XDCAM EX show no bar in sequences with matching parameters; they'll show yellow lines (hardware MPE) and red lines (software MPE) in non-matching sequences. Footage like DSLR H.264 from a Canon T2i, for example, show yellow bars, even in matching sequences. So, you can't really rely on the yellow bar/red bar as an indicator of footage matching the sequence. Typically, the "drag to New Item" action will generate a sequence that matches your footage, though it might not always use the editing mode that matches the footage (e.g. P2 with P2 media).
    Ultimately, knowing a little bit about your footage helps. I like using MediaInfo much more than GSpot for video file snooping; it much more modern, gives more helpful information (in my opinion), and integrates nicely with your operating system (e.g. tool tip popups, right-click "MediaInfo" items).
