Chrome favourites, added to safari, don't update automatically

Recently Safari allowed me to add Chrome favourites to Safari's, however they don't update automatically when I change them in Chrome. How do I fix the problem? Thanks

Your issue peaked my curiosity, so a ran a small experiment with some routers which I had handy ... a 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn), a Linksys BEFSR81, and a Netgear WGR614.
I rotated them, in turn, to a Motorola SB5101 cable modem provided by my ISP -- Cox Communications. For each case, I left the default settings on the routers which, in all cases, they were set as DHCP clients. For each case, the DNS IP information, provided by the ISP, was NOT visible on the Basic Settings page for any of these routers. However, they were ALL visible when viewing the equivalent router's status pages. For the AEBSn, that would be the Internet > Internet Connection tab in the AirPort Utility; For the Linksys, that would be the Status > Router tab; For the Netgear, that would be the Maintenance > Router Status.
In addition, I confirmed that each of the routers "passed thru" the ISP DNS server information to their LAN clients (wired or wireless) that were set up as DHCP client (& for WinXP or Vista clients to receive DNS info automatically.) (Note: I used the ipconfig utility for both Windows & OS X clients.)
So, this leads me to believe that what you are seeing is normal behavior of the router. If your ISP changes their DNS server(s), this should also "pass thru" to your LAN clients. If this is not happening then either the router is set for a static DNS IP address or the client is. I'm not sure what else it would be.

  • The tab bar in Safari does not update automatically

    Hello,
I have a strange problem with Safari full screen mode and the tab bar always displayed, it does "not update" alone. In fact when I, for example, two tabs and I created a third (by clicking a link) it does not appear immediately. I have to either click on the tab bar and pretend to move one, either click the "Naviagtion tabs" for bar tabs emtte update.
    A little heavy, huh?
All my software are up to date and even reinstalled recently, but the problem is still present.
    OS X Lion Mountain / / Safari 6.0.2

I solved the problem by uninstalling Glims.

  • Apps don't update after region change in itunes!

I have changed my free USA iTunes account region to Hungarian (and added my bank account to it).
After that my previously bought apps don't update automatically, and manually too.
They don't show up in the purchased list either.
I have tried to update Skype manually (I have the 3.7.6 for my iPad), it downloads the newest version (3.8), but still keeps the original version.
The automatic update keeps saying no updates available.
If I redownload any previously purchased it still doesn't show up in purchased list (iTunes says I have to buy again),
Please help me! I can't change my region back to USA, because I don't have any bank account in the US (Apple won't allow to "downgrade" my paid account to free).
    Thanks for help
    Tom from Hungary

Go to the App Store and look for the version dates. Perhaps the developers haven't updated their apps yet.

  • Webmail in Safari don't work after updating to iOS6.

Webmail in Safari don't work after updating to iOS6.  Logging on to office webmail account are redirected.  Webmail works with Google Chrome, but it doesn't sove the issue with Safari.  Any suggestions on how to configure Safari?

    Try this
I was having this problem, seem to happen when waking computer, once finally connected network works great.
You need to edit your network preferences to order the network selection list.  Goto this support page  Using network locations (Mac OS X v10.6 and later) and edit your selection list.
I also created a "HOME" location and deleted all networks except wifi.  Put MB to sleep woke and safari worked great.  Still I re-ordered the networks under Automatic putting wifi at top, sequence is from top down.  Don't forget to click Apply.  Have fun

  • Safari & apple software updater don't believe I'm connected to the internet

    Hi,
I have an interesting internet connectivity problem that I was wondering people could help me with.
Whenever I use the ethernet port on my laptop to connect to the internet, certain pieces of software do not think i'm connected to the internet even if I am. For example, firefox, adium, apple mail, jabber, transmit ftp, ichat will work properly, but, safari, the software updater, adobe cs updater will not work and thinks there is no connection to the internet.
This happens no matter what network I am on and I do not have this problem if I connect wirelessly to any network.
Anyone know what's going on and if there is a simple solution?
    thanks,
    ben

Hi Ben, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Try this... when using the Ethernet port, type this into Safari's URL bar...
    17.254.3.183
If that gets you to Apple, then try putting these in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers:, for that Interface...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
Apply. These Servers have been patched to guard against DNS poisoning, and are faster/more reliable than most ISP's DNS Servers.

  • App store and safari don't work anymore after maverick upgrade

    Hello everybody,
I'm experiencing mysterious problems with app store and safari that I don't really know if it can depend on the installation of maverick (maybe it happened afterwards and I noticed it at a later time).
When I launch app store I have to wait a few seconds for the spinning wheel stopping and nothing happen after. Just green app store window with app store ICON in the middle and nothing else. I've tried to deactivate firewall and to reboot the MAC with cmd+option+P+R without success.
Another strange thing happens with safari. It seems that it won't be able to handle coming html streams from the sites i'm browsing and very often it crashes. I use chrome in place of safari but it annoys me a lot.
    I have a MacBook Pro with OSX 10.9.4 (13E28), 2.53 GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo, 8 GB RAM DDR3.
Of course I've tried SW update but, since app store doesn't work, I can't complete the action.
Any help ? Would be very apreciated.
    Thank you all in advance,
    Mauro

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if iTunes crashed, you would enter "iTunes" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • OS X 10.5.8 Running VERY slow since installing Safari and itunes updates.

Installed latest Safari and itunes updates today. When my OS restarted the install took a really long time and since then the computer is so slow its un-usable. Its a Macbook Pro, 2.6 intel dual thingy (the model just before the uni-bodies came out).
I have down the PRAM reset and tried launching in safe mode. Neither or these made any difference.
I then started with an install disk installed and while holding down C. Again, it took a long time to boot, but once in that mode I launch the various utilities etc. So I opened disk utility and verify and repair disk...but it found no problems.
Perhaps I should have repaired disk permissions?
Also I thought this might be a lose ram issue or something. I don't have a screw driver to open up RAM slot and re-seat it, but also in 'about this mac' it can see the ram...?
I am very frustrated right now! What have i done to my computer?!
It was running 100% fine until I did this software update.
...and when I say it is running slow, to give an example clicking Apple/N in finder takes maybe 5 for that window to appear followed by another few minutes of the whirling wheel of death. Then I can click on the next item (apps for instance) and go through a similar wait.
    argh!

No very clear idea of why it is behaving like that Samuel, but in 95% of cases it is some third party add-on, not yet updated for Safari 5, that is the cause.
Please peruse the following, particularly with respect to Open DNS settings:
    Some general advice on updating:
It is worth noting that it is an extreme rarity for updates to cause upsets to your system, as they have all been extensively beta-tested, but they may well reveal pre-existing ones, particularly those of which you may have been unaware. If you are actually aware of any glitches, make sure they are fixed before proceeding further.
So before you do anything else:
If you can, make a full backup first to an external hard disk. Ideally you should always have a bootable clone of your system that enables you to revert to the previous pre-update state.
Turn off sleep mode for both screen and hard disk.
Disconnect all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
    1. Repair Permissions (in Disk Utility)
    2. Verify the state of your hard disk using Disk Utility. If any faults are reported, restart from your install disk (holding down the C key), go to Disk Utility, and repair your startup disk. Restart again to get back to your startup disk.
At least you can now be reasonably certain that your system does not contain any obvious faults that might cause an update/upgrade to fail.
    3. Download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site.
The Combo updater of Leopard 10.5.8 can be found here:
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate
If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall.
Full details about the 10.5.8 update here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3606
More information on using Software Updater here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US
Using the Combo updater ensures that all system files changed since the original 10.5.0 are included, and any that may have been missed out or subsequently damaged will be repaired. The Delta updater, although a temptingly smaller download, only takes you from the previous version to the new one, i.e. for example from 10.5.7 to 10.5.8. Software Update will generally download the Delta updater only. The preferable Combo updater needs to be downloaded from Apple's download site.
    Now proceed as follows:
    4. Close all applications and turn off energy saving and screensaver.
    5. Unplug all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
    6. Install the update/upgrade. Do not under any circumstances interrupt this procedure. Do not do anything else on your computer while it is installing. Be patient.
    7. When it ask for a restart to complete the installation, click restart. This can take longer than normal, there are probably thousands of files to overwrite and place in the correct location. Do nothing while this is going on.
    8. Once your Mac is awake, repair permissions again, and you should be good to go!
If your Mac seems slightly sluggish or ‘different’, perform a second restart. It can’t hurt and is sometimes efficacious!
    9. Open a few of your most used applications and check that all is OK. In this connection please remember that not all manufacturers of third party applications and plug-ins, add-ons, haxies etc, will have had time to do any necessary rewrites to their software to make them compliant with the latest version of your operating system. Give them a weeks or two while you regularly check their websites for updates. This applies particularly to plug-ins for Safari 4.
N.B. Do not attempt to install two different updates at the same time as each may have different routines and requirements. Follow the above recommendations for each update in turn.
Lastly, Apple's own article on the subject of Software Update may also be useful reading:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106695
If you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up. If you have installed an OS update and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level /Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party add-on.
Additional tips on software installation here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106692
To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
    • /Library/InputManagers
    • ~/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates (they can always be added back one-by-one later).

  • Firstly do I need Adobe Flash?? (bit of a technophobe) but since I've done an UPDATE i keep getting pop ups when i look at amazon??

firstly do I need Adobe Flash?? (bit of a technophobe) but since I've done an update I keep getting pop ups when i look at amazon??also can I delete X from my applications as it does not seem to be usable (don't know what its for!!)

You may have installed one or more of the common types of ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it. It's been reported that some variants of the "VSearch" malware block access to the page. If that happens, start in safe mode by holding down the shift key at the startup chime, then try again.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, ask for further instructions.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. It may have come from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
Malware is also found on websites that traffic in pirated content such as video. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.

  • Connecting Chrome Cast to Hub 4 and 5 - Updated 13...

    Hi Guys,
We understand some people are having connection problems with Chrome Cast to BT’s Home hub 4 and 5.
We have discovered that Chrome Cast doesn't seem to like the 5Ghz wireless band and this is the setting that the router will automatically try and connect to the device with.  The solution is to change the SSID on the 5Ghz band so that you can force Chrome Cast to use the 2.4Ghz band.  You can do this through the hub manager, to make this easy for you we have set out some simple instructions below.
    1.  Access the Hub Manager on your computer by typing api.home into the address bar of the Internet browser, then click Advanced Settings
    2.  Next enter the Hub Manager admin password (found on the Hub settings card at the back of the Hub) and click OK
    3.  Click Continue to Advanced Settings
    4.  Click Wireless
    5.  From here you can change the SSID name being broadcast. In this example here we've added 2.4GHz at the end of the name to easily identify this as the 2.4GHZ band. But you can change the name to anything you want. In the Wireless SSID section enter a new name and clickApply
    6.  Click Yes for the changes to be applied
    7.  Now you've changed the SSID, you'll need to reconnect any other wireless devices you've previously connected
Update - When you follow the above process for changing the SSID of the 5 GHz Band you will see an option which reads 'Sync with 2.4GHz' This option need to be set to 'No'.  I have added a screen shot below,
Update:  We continue to test this and it appears that the BT Home Hub 5A, should be able to Chromecast with the Chromecast on 2.4GHz SSID and the streaming device on the 5GHz SSID.  Smart Setup has to be disabled to enable Chromecast to work though.  To disable Smart Setup please see this link for a step by step guide, Switching Smart Setup on and off on the BT Home Hub 4 or Hub 5
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers

  • My new iPod has now crashed and is unusable after updating it. Don't update. I just lost the only good thing I have because of them pushing me into it.

My new iPod has been updated. I was pushed into it. So then I thought "it could use one it could improve it". I read as much as the terms and conditions as I could read that was understandable. And now it's been less then two days and my iPod is now practically useless. Don't update your iPod. It was the only good thing I had. I pleded and pleded to my parents for weeks and save up for weeks to get one. And now it's not even a year old and I've lost it. I can't afford to get a new one. And I can't afford to loose this one. i worked hard every day all day For months to be able to even get a quarter of what i needed. And my parents agreed to pay for the rest and it was my Christmas present. i was extremely happy. It's the best thing that I have and I've lost it because of an update Apple pushed me into. Now they won't help me.
my iPod is freezing every 5-10 minutes for long periods of time. It is:
    freezing
the keyboard board is lacking severely
    lags through out ipod
i cannot play games as it lags then freezes.
my screen is pressing where I don't press it.
    it becomes very excruciatingly slow
I Cannot write to fast or it freezes and i have to re start
Im not getting told when I have notifications (such as emails)
i cannot use facebook, games, Safari. Email, messenger and a few others with out my iPod crashing.
i Cannot use the iPod properly at all.
it can take up to 10 minutes for my camera to work. It usually takes 1 minute or more.
the camera freezes or wont take a photo when I press
it freezes on panorama or worn take panoramas.
it has trouble even trying to get the lock screen up.
and best of all of it. I can never tell when I'm going to be screwed by Apple.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

What version are you on now ? If you are on 5.1.0 then the update to 5.1.1 is very small - from here :
Improves reliability of using HDR option for photos taken using the Lock Screen shortcut
Addresses bugs that could prevent the new iPad from switching between 2G and 3G networks
Fixes bugs that affected AirPlay video playback in some circumstances
Improved reliability for syncing Safari bookmarks and Reading List

    Safari won’t update fromVersion 5.0.5 to5.1.7

I'm having the same issue. Tonight I did a clean install of 10.6.0 from the retail CD onto an old 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo Mac Mini. So far I have done nothing with it but run Software Update and reboot repeatedly, and now Software Update tells me I'm all up-to-date (I'm now on 10.6.8) but I still have Safari 5.0.5. (In /Applications/.) All of my other 10.6.8 Macs are on 5.1.x, including my white Core Duo MacBook.

  • Safari 6.2 update killed third-party toolbar buttons: SOLUTION to re-enable them

After installing the Safari 6.2 update as part of a recent OS X update, on my MacBook Air running OS X 10.8.5 (Mountain Lion), both my third-party toolbar buttons (via Safara extensions) suddenly vanished (LastPass and Pinterest).   Reinstalling them didn't help, and Safari > Help > Installed Plug-Ins shows them as installed just fine.
The SOLUTION: Safari 6.2 has added an unannounced privacy setting with default setting set to OFF.  All I had to do to re-enable both missing toolbar buttons was to go the Extensions tab of Safari > Preferences, and for each extension listed on the left, click it and then check the (suddenly-by-default-unchecked) checkbox to enable the extension.
Boo Apple for turning off everyone's Safari extensions without notice, and without instruction about how to re-enable them.

After that some of my DVD's no longer played and when I tried to play them my whole system locked up and I had to manually power down before I could get the DVD out of the player.
    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
There's now a 10.6.3 update, which fixes a long list of things. I'd download and install the "combo" updater:

        tagTableModel.addColumn(swttField.getName());        //insert the new column
    }//End for
    createTagTable();                                       //update the table

Hi, I am here again. I think that I don't explaint the problem clearly....
I have a DataBase with 5 tables, each table has your own fields, and I waana create a JTable (GUI) for the user edit the result and then, write, read, udpate, delete, etc.....
    I create a DefaulttableModel...
When my program start.. In the constructor I instianciate de DefaultTableModel
DefaultTableModel model = new DefaultTableModel();Then I create a JcomboBox where the user can choose another tables. When the user do this action, I would like to change the table columns (because each table has their own columns, and this fields are different).
    The I code...
    JComboBox table = new JcomboBox();
    table.addActionListener(this);
    public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e){
       if(e.getSource() == table)
model = new DefaultTableModel();                //I do this to "zero" the table, for create another one
         for(int col = 0; col < sizeTable; col++)
             model.addColumn(header[col]);
          getContentPane().add(new JScrollPane(new JTable(model)));
       }//end if
}//End actionPerformed()The problem is: The JTable don't "zero" and show the new structure, it always mantain the first structure.
Just for debug I get out the new DefaulTableModel and it works adding the tables to the end.. But it is not correct because I just attach new columns form table CLIENTE on the table PRODUCT for example. please help.
    Thanks. Giscard
