Chroot SFTP for virtual users

Anyone tried this on Arch?

Basically allowing chrooted virtual users SFTP access (no users/shell access). I thought of switching completely to SFTP from FTP/SSL, but don't want to add a user for each virtual host.

To allow virtual user on the site, you need add a SAML authenticator provider to the security realm. From the log, I don’t see there is a SAML authenticator configured. This SAML authentication provider is used by SAMLIA to authenticate (in fact, it simply returns an authenticated identity) the virtual users.
You should also pay attention to the control flags of the newly added SAML authenticator and your existing DefaultAtn provider. For example, the control flags can be set like this:
SAML Authenticator - SUFFICIENT
DefaultAtn - SUFFICIENT
If DefaultAtn’s control flag is set to REQUIRED, “Virtual Users” will not work, too.

Pure-ftpd - different permissions for virtual users?

I seem not to be able to find out how I could declare different permissions for different virtual users. In /etc/pure-ftpd.conf exists one line to declare permissions using
#umask file:folder
umask 133:133
umask matches the numbers to 'UserGroupOthers'.
Now that virtual ftp users belong to a real existing unix user / group, I wonder who is Users, Group and Others?
Users = virtual ftp user ?
Group = virtual ftp group ?
Others = anonymous visitors?
How can I tune it, so one virtual user can add files - f.e. to be used by a scan station - while others shall only read, having anonymous disabled?
This gives me a headache.

Ok, let me think. What did I do?
I had different users. User X, Y and Z.
Then, I had a shared directory above their home directories.
While in the system, (not in pure-ftpd) I symlinked.
(Note that doing something in user X's directory, like ln -s ../shared didn't work---I had to do ln -s /usr/home/ftpuser/shared).
Then, I ~think I played with the permissions on shared and got what I wanted.
Then, after a few hours on this, they changed their minds about what they wanted, everyone was allowed to use shared, but different companies had to have their own directories, so I no longer have that config.

Is mail for virtual domains fixed in snow leopard?

My goal is to set up several different domains, and have email for users for each of those domains
In 10.5 (Leopard) you could set this up by creating virtual hosts (for the extra domains), and by creating an email alias' --- however this was broken functionality requiring significant (to me at least as I am not a programmer) manual circumvention of the setup and administration tools provided by apple
Does anyone know if this is now fixed in 10.6 (snow leopard)? Can I, just using the admin tools and without any behind the scenes programming tweaks, set this up?

Vacation responses for SA-style virtual users

We've chosen to implement virtual users via Server Admin, rather thsn by manually editing files. We're now looking for a way to implement vacation responses. According to the 10.4 mail documentation, Sieve won't work with virtual users implemented this way. What are the alternatives to Sieve, specifically for vacation responses? Thanks to whomever can help.

Applescript: How to run a script once upon logon for multiple users

I'm deploying a NetRestore image to about 150 Macs which will be using Active Directory and I've designed a custom default user for each new user. However, our system requires a specialized certificate that has to be installed on the local login.keychain for each user otherwise network connectivity is impacted.
I've tried to use the security command through Terminal to install the certificate, but no matter what combination of commands, I cannot seem to get that to work properly even with an already-created user. While it will often say it's installed, the cert will not actually show up in the login keychain in Keychain Access. And the network connectivity is still impacted.
So instead, I created a brief AppleScript that just gives the user brief instructions to click "Add" on the prompt for which Keychain to add the cert and then "Always Trust" for the "This cert is not verified" prompt. Then it launches Keychain Access. Originally, I was going to have it actually click the buttons for the user, but I realized trying to get the whole Accessibility apps and assitive devices to work on every new user would be a nightmare.
I created the script on another 10.9 Mac using Automator to make it an actual application. I've used the instructions in OS X: Using AppleScript with Accessibility and Security features in Mavericks to sign it and I'm using root to move it from its network location into the Applications folder. I've adjusted the permissions to allow all Admin users to r/w (along with everyone else). To the root user, it shows as a usable application, but every other user on the Mac sees it as damaged/incomplete.
What I want to do is add it to the default Login Items, so I can run the final AppleScript command to simply remove the login items listing. That way I don't need to worry about it running again, but it's still available for the next user to sign onto the deployed Mac.
I know it's a little convoluted, but this is the final piece to the NetRestore deployment I've been working on for months. Any suggestions on how to make this work (or even a completely different solution) would be greatly appreciated.

500 Internal server error in web template for specific users

Virtual users

I've only just recently migrated to OSX server since the release of snow leopard. Ive come from a debain server.
I used to be able to have a virtual user table under sendmail allowing me to have multiple domains with similar usernames in each domain thus:-
[email protected] domain1username
[email protected] domain2username
It seems under workgroup manager (is this the place to add these?) under shortnames even if i create a shortname for domain1username that is [email protected] and a shortname for domain2username that is [email protected] the mail server wont allow mails for [email protected], bouncing with the error message <[email protected]>: User unknown in virtual alias table
Can anyone shed any light or point me to a manual/fix?

Here's what I've found that works.
In WGM in addition to the shortname you need to add the email address. In this case your username for domain1 and domain2 are the same.

1 VirtualBox VM for all users

We are trying to utilize VirtualBox to run a Windows 7 Virtual Machine on OS X (10.6). We want to create 1 VM for all users to access. I have changed the default folder to /Users/Shared/VirtualBox_VMs. Please does anyone know how this can be done?

The SIMPLE answer is do not have the iPod devices setup with each account. You can sync multiple devices to a single iTunes library.

Enabling calendaring for a user or group not working

Am having an issue getting ical server/sharing and webcalandars working. Think it is all related.
First a description of my server environs. One xserve acting as OD master, fileserver, vpn, DNS and DHCP server as well. Second xserve acting as DNS, mail, web and ical server. Second server is OD replica.
DNS is working. All OD functions including kerberos are working. Mail and webmail are working as well.
The hostname in iCal Server Admin settings is the FQDN of my second xserve. icalxserve.domain.com. I can start iCal. Then I get this error in the logs:

Remember this server is a OD replica. It is listed in the Computers pane under Workgroup Manager and its name is server.domain.com$. All the computers have $ at the end so I assume this is normal. All services are set for access from all users in Server Admin -> server -> Access. In Server Admin Web -> Sites -> (default site highlighted) Web Services webmail, wiki and blog and web calendaring are all checked as well. I have also tried to enable wiki and blog and web calendar for groups in Workgroup Manager. The only choices in the pop up are none and wiki host for domain.com. Strange.
I cannot enable calendaring for any user. I check the Enable calendaring box under Advanced in the Accounts pane in Workgroup Manager and no server is listed in the pop up menu. It only reads No calendar host selected without any other choices. It should show me icalxserve.domain.com.
When I goto http://icalxserve.domain.com site I get the default homepage and webmail works. If I click on the Groups button I see the 2 groups I have enabled services for. But when I click on the groupname I get the following error page:
Not Found
404: No group with that name (thomas) hosted on this server
Not sure what to do next. OD doesn't seem to be working like I would expect. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Your Rider seems to indicate 10.6? If you're not seeing this option in WorkGroup Manager I'm guessing you're using 10.6 Server? In which case you've posted in the wrong forum with a question that's not applicable anymore. Apple removed those options in 10.6. Another possibility is you're trying to manage a 10.5 Server using 10.6 Server Admin Tools and it's giving unpredictable results? The Server Administration Applications cab behave oddly if you're trying use a newer version on an older server. You should use the version of the Tools that came with the Server.

We have an Oracle 11g database with a table containing data from multiple sites (a SiteID field identifies the site for a record). Since application users can have access to different subsets of sites, we would like to use Oracle's Virtual Private Database feature to enforce row-level security on the table.
I did a successful proof-of-concept with database users. I created a role for each site (example: USER_SITE_A, USER_SITE_B, ...), and then assigned the appropriate site roles to each database user. I then created a package (run via a logon trigger) which set application context attributes for each site. If the current database user has been assigned a role for a given site, then the corresponding attribute named "SITE_PRIVILEGE_SiteID" is set to 'Y'... otherwise, it is set to 'N'. Here is the code which worked to set application context attributes for database users:

As you can see from the code above, the applicaiton context package was referencing the dba_role_privs view. Although this package sets the attributes correctly when called manually, it does not work when called from the logon trigger. That was an oops on my part, as I didn't realize initially that a PL/SQL procedure cannot be called with invoker's rights from a trigger.
So, I am now wondering, is there another view that I could use in code called from a logon trigger to access the roles assigned to the enterprise user ? If not, is there a better way for me to approach this problem? From a maintenance standpoint, I like the idea of controlling site access from the LDAP directory service via role assignments. But, I am open to other ideas as well.

LoadRunner SAPGUI Virtual Users Decline

I am trying to perform a Load Test on SAP R/3 using LoadRunner 9.5. I have 120 virtual users that I would like to run for an hour. I have distributed these 120 vusers over 6 scenarios on 5 load generators. The maximum number of virtual users that I have been able to run at one time is 114. The number then slowly declines over the next 40 minutes and stabilizes at 91 vusers (which run for the remaining hour). The messages I get from LoadRunner indicate that users have logged on and navigated to their assigned transaction code in SAP, but fail to perform the first step in that transaction code (this happens for ME21N, ME22N, ME23, FB10, F-43 which is all of the transaction codes that I am testing). I have worked with the Basis Group here to ensure that there are enough interactive dialog work processes, set each scenarios think time to random, initialize and start each vuser individually, and ensured that each load generator has enough RAM. The only thing left that I know to try is to increase the number of dialog processes per user. However, we cannot figure out the parameter name to do this. If anyone knows the name of this parameter or have any other suggestions, please let me know. Thanks!

Is new Windows Mobile VM for Java ME in new SDK 3.0 for common users?

There are bunch of buggy VMs for WM Platform such as Esmertec JBED, Esmertec JBLEND, IBM J9 etc. They have lot of bugs and they don't support neccessary JSRs. Now I have read about Windows Mobile integration in new SDK 3.0 EA for Java ME - I undestand that there is a new VM for WM from Sun, is that right? But when I installed CAB version, it seams it is just for on-device debugging with connected Wireless Toolkit on PC. I can't launch midlets located in my WM device on it. Is there also VM for common users? So they could install virtual machine and then install their midlets? I think many developers and users would apreciate it. Or is it at least in plan to release such VM?

[Solved] Pure-ftpd only virtual users

Dear arch-users
I'm using pureftpd from extra. I've created a lot of virtual users for my LAN, everything is working fine.
But it is possible for system users to log on an see their whole /home/users directory, with their user/pass combo. I've disabled it, by setting the minUID to a very high number, but I think their is a more decent solution for this problem.
So what is the best solution to only allow virtual-users to log on?

Rejecting emails to unknown virtual users before filtering them?

hi
it appears that all emails to any virtual domain on my server gets "filtered" BEFORE it gets checked against valid users for that domain.
1. mail in
2. filtered
3. checked if valid
4. rejected (unknown)
Is there any way to have the validity check done before the filtering?
It would seem more economical if it worked like this...

2. checked if valid
3. rejected (unknown)

I have used pterobyte's virtual mail set up in the past without a problem - and found that Apple has broken the postfix in 10.5 (as it says on the PDF that pterobyte is recommending.)
If you, like me, had already set up each user in WGM to have two shortnames (the second one - an email at virtual domain) then you only need to append the users to your "virtual" file in "/etc/postfix".
EG:
[email protected] shortname
do this for each virtual user, postmap the file and reload postfix. Then the mail server will accept the email addressed to your virtual user.
