How can windows client use OSX leopard server open directory? How can windows client connect to osx server contact address directory? Ical server work ok with windows mozzila thunderbird(lightning) but cannot select name to invite form osx server.

thxMathieu,
Take a look at the user guide for NAM -
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/vpn_client/anyconnect/anyconnect30/administration/guide/ac04namconfig.html
You will see the protocols support like GTC that should allow you not to have to deploy certs.
Thanks.

Windows 7 and OSx running at the same time
I have both Windows 7 and OSx Lion installed on my macbook pro.
If I run Windows 7 with VMware Fusion would i need more RAM so my laptop could run faster. or would the RAM not effect at all?Yes more RAM would always be better up to a Point. About 8GBs is the sweat spot.

Trying to understand text encodings between windows clients and oracle DB
I am focusing on a "maybe bad configured" oracle windows xp client connecting into a well configured oracle db server (10g for example). Instead of just keep the correct client settings to make it work I would prefer to understand what is really doing the oracle client with all the posible bad configurations regarding encodings.
When the client executes something like "SELECT 'Col1', N'Col2' from dual" before sending the sql sentence into the server the sentence itself should be encoded.
But the way the sentence is encoded or the fact that some magic encoding transform occurs depends on the technology used (Java Thin, OCI, Oledb, etc..) and sometimes it depends on the windows setting "Languages for Non-unicode programs" and sometimes it depends on the client NLS_LANG setting on the registry. Or maybe thigs are simpler and I simply got confused... Here we could add that maybe some third party tool could do some other "helpfull" hidden magic encoding transformation to make it work and things become interesting
A second time when all this encoding stuff should be considered is when the results of the sentences are retrieved on the client.
At this point the client receives an byte stream from the server (that could be a VARCHAR column or a NVARCHAR column). Again depending on the technology used the client could be specting a utext, text (OCI) or a CHAR, NCHAR (in JAVA) or a SQL_C_WCHAR, SQL_C_CHAR (in OleDb), etc...
Well, I'm not sure at all about the first point. Is all the sentence encoded in the same way before sending it to the server (ie is sended as plain text) or before the client parses the sentence and it understand that is sending a SELECT statement that returns two cols (one varchar and the other nvarchar)? For example the N, the ' and the Col2 are sent using the same encoding?Todd:

Section: Generating ECID by Native/WS/Jolt clients and Domain Gateway
We are using Jolt Clients, via JSL for executing Tuxedo Services. The problem, we always face while debugging is cross relation. It would be extremely useful for us if we could get the ECID printed in webserver and tuxedo server process. Can we get ECID using any programming API in jolt client and in Tuxedo server process ? It would help us to correlate web, Tux and server logs

Can't establish VPN on windows client to OSX server
Hi everyone,
I'm stuck for a while now with a very annoying problem.
I can't establish a VPN connection on a windows client to a OSX Server. It worked fine while we had OSX server 10.6.
We recently updated to 10.8 and got this problem.
I know some of u are now thinking, the solution is: Just don't use windows... But the director of the company i am doing this for
doesn't want to switch to mac.
Also, this problem maybe be related to windows but i hope someone here can help me.
Things i've done:
I've tried PPTP ( didn't work either )
I've tried different users
I've tried adding a rule te regedit in windows ( according to a windows vista kb file for VPN trough NAT devices )
I've tried different authentication rules
In VPN log is Server admin everything goes well until:
pppd[87435]: fatal signal 6
vpnd[104]: --> Client with address 192.168.0.24 has hungup
after this it goes further with some successes.
I hope someone here knows the solution!
Thanks in advance,
Remy

IPhone SDK : Communication between iPhone client and a remote server
Hi,
This is w.r.t iPhone Cocoa Touch native application.
i need to populate my application 's data from a remote application server ( which in turn connects to the database) . I require some tips in the communication between client sitting on the iPhone and the remote application server. I am planning to proceed in XML transaction way.
I referred the SeismicXML sample application provided by Apple. In this sample, client reads the physically existing xml file from @"http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/catalogs/eqs7day-M2.5.xml"; and the client parses the xml file and display the content on the table view.
i have following 2 queries ,
1. I do not want to read from a physically present file,i want the data to be transferred on the go.
Means, request should be sent from the client to a application server and the server process returns the data in form of xml file ( but its not creating any physical xml file) .
Basically i am looking for request - response concept.
2. Can we call a java process(which returns xml data) running on a remote server from the cocoa touch client.? If not java process, what would be other best way...
i am going through the Apple provided frameworks. Do any of the iPhone SDK frameworks support this request? If some one has any idea on the above mentioned queries, pls help me.
any pointers will also be helpful.
It might be too early to talk about these, but i have to take some business decision related on this.
thanks in advance. You already know how to send a string via HTTP Post? And you know how to make XML into a string? Put the two together.

Oracle 8i Windows Client and 9i Unix Database server
Is it recommended to use Oracle Windows 8i client against Oracle 9i Database server?
Does anyone have an official Oracle link about this?
Thanks
DipakOnly by putting an Oracle 8 database between them... You can set up an Oracle 8 database with a dblink to the Oracle 7 database and connect to that via an Oracle 9 client. Not pretty and not particularly efficient, but it'll work in a pinch.

hello I recently installed Windows 8 on my new MacBook Pro 13. It works fine. I also installed Bootcamp drivers so that I could log on to the Mac partition because I prefer to use my PC in native mode. The only problem I have encountered is that under Win 7 I could use Boot Camp Manager to select the boot disk and this would take me to either the Mac or Win partition. Now when I am in Win 8, it will only restart me back in Windows even though I have chosen OSX (Mountain Lion).
I can choose Mac if I use the Option Key on start up. Is there a fix for my minor issue?1. Boot Camp doesn't support Windows 8, so wait until Apple releases new Boot Camp drivers.
2. Boot Camp requires only one volume on the hard drive, so you can't create a volume to store data -
Running Windows 7 and connecting to VPN
There is an issue at my university with signing on to its VPN netword using Lion. I want to install Windows7 on my mac so I can run the VPN connection through windows (which should theoretically work). My question is this: If I connected to the VPN through Windows on my MacBook and then switch to the MacOS, will I remain connected to the VPN or will I be dropped once I swtich from Windows to MacOS?
It should drop because the settings are different. Settings don't transfer over.

Mail client and OSX 10.6.8
Does ICloud migration also require the upgrade of the OS to leopard, on order to continue using the mail client on the MacBook?
Thanks, in advance. To use iCloud's synchronization features, you must upgrade to Lion, not Leopard.
Mail.app in Snow Leopard will continue to function as usual. If you have a MobileMe email account (me.com or mac.com), you need to register for an iCloud account and manually reset Mail to use the iCloud servers instead of MobileMe. You won't be able to use iCloud's other features, but email will work just fine.
Non-MobileMe email accounts are not affected in any way. -
Cisco ASA 5505 Site to Site VPN
Hello All,
First time posting to the forums. I've been working with Cisco ASA 5505 for a number of months and recently I purchased a 2nd ASA with the goal of setting up Site to Site VPN tunnel. It look so simple from the number of videos that I have watched on the internet. But when I have done it suprise suprise it didn't work for me ... I have deleted the tunnels a number of times and attempted to recreate them. I am using the VPN wizard in the ADM to create the tunnel. Both the asa are 5505 and have the same same firmware etc.
I would appreciate any help that can be directed towards this issue please. Slowly losing my mind
Please see details below:
Both ADM are 7.1

Thanks for the help to date
I now have the Site to Site working but there is one little issue I have. If I try to RD to a server through the tunnel it will not allow connection on the first attempt however if I ping that host and then attempt to RD it will allow the connection. It looks like the host is asleep until it receives traffic through the tunnel. Is this thje correct behaviour.
See below the details:

ISE device differentiated access and windows clients
Hi guys,
Pretty new to ISE and looking for some help wrapping my head around a couple of things.
First, I have a beta wireless network setup, called VIP for for employees to connect their mobile devices too, it's PEAP based. i'm also tagging into it the ability to create guest accounts through a portal and redirecting to different vlans (and thereby different internet providers). That's all working pretty well. However, one of the issues I have with it of course is with PEAP, a windows client doesn't correctly configure for it as it defaults to using the username/password logged into it. Is it possible to attach a policy to that network to determine if it's a windows client and require them to do web-auth user/password? Whats the best approach for that? I didn't want to do web-auth for everyone (smartphones/tablets) as it's not accepted by the user base very well (healthcare) and they have to buy-in.
Secondly, we have a situation where corporate ipads may be used by the same individuals (employees) who have their own devices and have access to the VIP network via their AD username/password. What I don't want to do, is use PEAP for the corporate network (ipads) and give the user the ability to connect to the corporate network with their personal device as well. So I'm trying to figure out how I can limit this. I would go off of the certificate based on the device, but I'm deploying certificates from my MobileIron MDM Server via it's scep proxy that runs off my MS PKI NDES installation. As far as I know, I can't make NDES give different type of certificates for authentication to different networks... All sounds very confusing, so if you have ideas or scenarios on how to approach this, I would really appreciate it.
Thank you,
RaunYou can enable ISE profiling and profile endpoints and assign auth policy based on their profile.

Disabling Any connect in Cisco ASA's
what is the best way to disable anyconnect in the Cisco ASA's.
ThanksThe quickest way to disable a remote access SSL VPN (the most common type by far when using Anyconnect clients) is to turn off webvpn ("no webvpn") in configure mode.
-
NPAS: How do I use Cisco ASA RADIUS attribute 146?
We have a Cisco ASA 5520 running firmware 8.4.5 and are using it for AnyConnect SSL VPN. We are using Microsoft Network Policy and Access Services (NPAS) as a RADIUS server to handle authentication requests coming from the ASA.
We have three tunnel groups configured on the ASA, and have three Active Directory security groups that correspond with each one. At this time, we are using Cisco's vendor-specific RADIUS attribute 85 (tunnel-group-lock) to send back to the ASA a string
that corresponds to a policy rule in NPAS based on the matched group membership. This works in the sense that each user can only be a member of one of the three AD security groups used for VPN, and if they pick a tunnel group in the AnyConnect client
that doesn't correspond to them, the ASA doesn't set up the session for them.
Well, Cisco added vendor-specific RADIUS attribute 146 (tunnel-group-name) in firmware 8.4.3. This is an *upstream* attribute, and is one that is sent by the ASA to the RADIUS server. We would like to use this attribute in our policies in NPAS
to help with policy matching. By doing this, we could allow people to be in more than one VPN group and select more than one of the tunnel groups in the AnyConnect client, each of which may provide different network access.
The question becomes, how can I use this upstream RADIUS attribute in my policy conditions? I tried putting it in the policy in the Vendor-Specific section under Policies (the same place where we had attribute 85 defined), but this doesn't work.
These are just downstream attributes that the NPAS server sends back to the RADIUS client (the ASA). The ASA seems to ignore attribute 146 if it is sent back in this manner and the result is that the first rule that contains a group the user is a member
of is matched and authentication is successful. This is undesirable, because it means the person could potentially select a tunnel group and successfully authenticate even though that isn't what we desire.
Here is Cisco's documentation that describes these attributes: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/security/asa/asa84/configuration/guide/asa_84_cli_config/ref_extserver.htmlPhilippe:
Thank you for the response, but I am already aware how to use Cisco's group-lock or tunnel-group-lock with RADIUS and, in fact, we are already using tunnel-group-lock (attribute 85).
Using tunnel-group-lock works in the sense that you have three RADIUS policies and three AD security groups (one per tunnel group configured on the ASA). Each AD group basically is designed to map to a specific tunnel group. Each RADIUS policy
contains vendor-specific attribute 85 with the name of the tunnel group. So when you connect and attempt authentication through NPAS, it goes down the RADIUS policies until the conditions match (in this case the conditions are the source RADIUS client
- the ASA - and membership in a particular AD security group), it determines if your authentication attempt is successful, and if so it sends the tunnel group name back to the ASA. If the tunnel group name matches the one associated to the user group
you selected from the list in the AnyConnect client, a VPN tunnel is established. Otherwise, the ASA rejects the connection attempt.
Frankly, tunnel-group-lock works fine so long as it is only necessary for a given individual to need to connect to only a single tunnel group. If there is a need for an individual to be able to use two out of the three or all three tunnel groups in
order to gain different access, using tunnel-group-lock or group-lock won't work. This is because the behavior will be when the RADIUS server processes the policies, the first one in the list that has the AD security group that the user is a member of
will be matched and the tunnel group name associated with that policy will be sent back to the ASA every time. If that name doesn't match the one they picked, the tunnel will not be established. This will happen every time if the tunnel group is
associated with the second or third AD group they are a member of in terms of order in the NPAS policy list.
Group-lock (attribute 25) works similarly. In such a case, the result won't be a failure to connect if the user group chosen is associated with the second or third AD group in the policy list; rather, it will just always send the ASA the first group
name and the ASA will establish the session but always apply the same policy to the client rather than the desired one.
We upgraded to firmware 8.4.5 on our ASA 5520 specifically so that we could make use of attribute 146 (tunnel-group-name). Since this is an upstream attribute sent by the ASA to the RADIUS server (rather than something send by the RADIUS server
to the ASA as part of the authentication response), we were hoping to be able to use it as an additional condition in the NPAS policies. In this way, people could be members of more than one of the AD security groups related to VPN at a time. The
problem is, I just do not know how to leverage it in the NPAS policy conditions or if it is even possible. -
Cisco asa 5505 with Router 881w Configuration Help
Hello all,
I'm having trouble setting up a second vlan to route to the internet. I have a Cisco ASA 5505 connected to my ISP(OUTSIDE) and a Cisco 881w (INSIDE) router in the back of my firewall. My vlan 10 with the network 192.168.5.1 255.255.255.0 works with pat, however vlan 15 that is on my 881w router does not route to the internet at all. I can only ping from 192.168.15.15 network to 192.168.5.1 I would like some advice on how can I make this set up work. Attached with this discussion is a picture of my topology.
Thanks in advance.
