Clarification about SAP CRM 5.0, SAPPHONE

Hi Buddies,
Long time no see.
Curently we are considering integrating SAP with our telephony system  AVAYA. According to our vendor, there are 2 approaches: SAPPHONE or ICI connectors.
It is clear that ICI connector will be based on latest version of SAP CRM 7.0 which we do not install at the moment, thus we are more probally to use the SAPPHONE connection acting as interaction center middle ware.
However, it is somehow confusing about SAPPHONE approach. It is said to be neccesary to apply CRM 5.0 as system enviroment.
As I know, CRM 5.0, not like CRM 5.1 and later web application versions, is a component inside R3 system.
Is it neccessary to install CRM 5.0 first before activating the TCI via SAPPHONE?
Is CRM a middleware between SAPPHONE and telephony system or SAPPHONE itself is a component of CRM 5.0?
Is SAP CRM a mandatory component of ECC 6.0? In fact, I do not find it in 'Component version' inside our system.
Is SAPPHONE quite out-of-date and with limited support?
Do we need install new hardware for SAPPHONE?
Sorry for asking so many questions at the same time. We really need to clarify all misunderstandings before evaluating the approaches.
Thanks a lot in advance.
Jonnie

Hi Anrei,
Thanks, I read through the help document besides trying find other documents in help.sap.com.
I guess I got it. SAPphone is a component inside CRM server as indicated by below help document:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_crm40/helpdata/en/28/797b14a9cf4296b02742f641c18971/content.htm
The CRM Server includes the IC WinClient framework and the following SAP applications:
·        SAPphone
SAPphone provides a telephony function to the interaction center. It allows data to be exchanged between the CRM Server and the telephony component.
·        SAPconnect
SAPconnect provides an integrated e-mail function to the interaction center. It enables communication management software to connect to the SAP system (for example, an e-mail server or SMTP server).
Although it is a help document for CRM 4.0, I think CRM 5.0 should have the similar archtechture.
I would score you as helpful, however, I still would like to see whether I could get answers for below points:
Is SAP CRM a mandatory component of ECC 6.0? In fact, I do not find it in 'Component version' inside our system.
Is SAPPHONE quite out-of-date and with limited support?
Do we need install new hardware for SAPPHONE?
Thanks.

  • Some question about SAP CRM consultant

    Dear all,
I'm a center-based consultant in china. Our company is among the first batch to run SAP CRM in china in 2006.Our version is CRM 5.0.From my two years' working experience, the status of using CRM in our company is not very good.Complex UI,sychrorize problem makes our partner not willing to use this system.
I used to do some ABAP developing then i began to transfer to MM&SD.CRM work is the recent thing.During some months' work in CRM,i found i am more interesting in CRM.
I want to find a new job in outside consulting company in future.I want to focus on CRM.One aspect is that i'm interested in CRM.The other is that CRM is a new product and there is not so many people doing this. However,i seems getting some worries.First,SAP CRM seems not quite mature just from my understanding in 5.0 version. We  need to develope a lot not just using User-exit.I don't know whether 7.0 has changed a lot.I've seen the UI of 7.0.It seems much better. But is it means more company will choose SAP CRM 7.0 other than Siebel? In china, there seems not many CRM projects now and i don't know the status in other countries.Second,CRM may have much differences from ERP implementation because there are many process which can't be solidified.
In one word,i'm worried about CRM consultant's future. And i hope gurus to give me the answers.THx.

    Hi Feng
It would be very intersting to clients as well as consultants to work on SAP CRM. Career wise you have ample opportunities in the same. With the advent of various features in CRM 7.0 version, SAP is now more user friendly and is easy to implement with lot many processes covered as a part of vanila offer.
I wish you all the best and hope this helps.

  • Need help in getting information/training material for SAP CRM (Functional)

    Hello,
    I am a SD Consultant.
I want to learn SAP CRM (Functional) on my own without going to any training institute or some thing.
Therefore, can anyone help me in forwarding the link(s) or document(s) with which I can learn about SAP CRM (Functional).
I want information/training material regarding SAP CRM 7.0 (on system/software working, not the general information, for example- why CRM, where CRM, etc)
For example, about org data, org structure, possible scenarios, etc.

    Hi Chaitanya,
Since You are already a SD Consultant, We assume you are very much familliar with SAP and for you CRM will also be not a big Deal.
Customer Relationships Management (CRM) is a model for managing any Organization's interaction with current and future customers. It involves technology to organize, automate and synchronize SALES, SERVICES(postsales) AND MARKETING(presales).
First of all you need to get SAP CRM installed in your system and then you need to get command over Account and Contact Management (Business Partner). The same can be learned using WebUI or GUI. From GUI the transaction launcher is WUI then web page opens up enter your credentials and select Role - Salespro. Open the Account and Contact section and do some R&D and you can learn. But in GUI you need to go to SPRO -> IMG -> Cross Application Components -> SAP Business Partner -> Business Partner -> Basic Settings -> Number Ranges & Groupings -> Define Number Ranges. Here you have defined number range then you need to assign to some group created from SPRO same way. And Finally maintain Business Partner using Tcode - BP.
Then You Learn Organizational Management which allows us to map our marketing, sales, service structure maintaining company's structure including the position and Employees in an Application and assign specific attributes to the otganizational units.
Path: SPRO -> IMG -> CRM -> Master Data -> Organizational Management -> Organizational Model -> Create Org Model/Change org model.
Just Go ahead and with some more R&D in the system and taking of F1 Help of SAP Documentation I think you can easily learn SAP CRM.

    Hi,
I guess you are interested in learning about SAP CRM Service. The best way is to try it on a IDES System that is available. Start with CR700 and then work your way through that. It will give you much better feel of SAP CRM than watching the videos. You can of course watch the videos if at all they are available, but that would hardly help as you will get the real understanding once you start working in SAP.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,

  • Hi, I'd like to know how SAP CRM has been 'tailored' for the High Education sector?  Is it basically the same product than the existing CRM or a totally different syste,?  Where has it been implemented?  Is there an existing document/presentation about it

Hi, I'd like to know if the SAP CRM solution for High Ed is the same product thant the existing CRM solution?  Or has it been 'tailored' for High Ed? If so, how?  Is there existing documentation/presentation about it?  Where has it been implemented?
    Thanks!
    Sylvie from Montreal

    Ged,
whilst generally I agree with you a question (or two) for clarification so we can be sure we're not comparing apples with oranges
I'm not familiar with O2's product lineup but given you're on Annex M is that a business package?
Are you on an Infinity residential or business package?
On the subject of the offshore support teams my experience from the other sife of the fence is that many, many of them are very technically orientated. The problem is that the ISPs they work for don't give them access to many of the tools that are needed (they need to raise internal requests to even get line checks done in some cases) and also they are very heavily scripted & monitored in what they do/say on a call.
Sounds like O2 are operating as a contact centre rather than as a call centre which is much more preferable from the customers point of view.
DISCLAIMER: although I work in the industry I do not work for BT and any opinions given are purely my own.

  • ICI - How to display custom error messages in SAP CRM

    Hello,
we are working on a custom Contact Center which interfaces with SAP CRM Version 7 with Enhancement Package over ICI.
The basic call functions like accepting, hanging up, holding and retrieving are fully implemented and are working already.
Our goal is to display error messages in the CRM so that clients know there is something wrong, for example why he can't be log in successfully (e.g. the telephony server isn't reachable).
We already found the ICI Documentation file which provides us the CRM SOAP error codes and tried to send SOAP Fault messages, but never got
    them to screen.
Please find an attached example screenshot what we mean exactly, reproduced by trying to make a call with CRM user while BCM CDT isn't
    running in the background.
Regarding to this topic we've the following questions:
    - Is it possible to display custom error messages on the CRM or is this functionality limited to SAP?
    - Could you provide us some further information on how to use this feature exactly (implementation details?) and how the SOAP XML should look like to get it work?
    Thank you in advance!
    Best regards

I need to create an entity adapter and attach an error handler with the adapter? or can i handle that in the event handler itself. I coulnt find any api for handling errorsYou can do it both ways but since we are talking about event handler now, then in 9.x you need to extend com.thortech.xl.client.events.tcBaseEvent class for creating a event handler. In tcBaseEvent class there are various flavors of handleError method. So use that as per my note earlier and you should be good.

  • SAP CRM - no confidence in UI by SAP?

After reading this blog and looking at the article attached to the blog.  I had an interesting question:
Can Rich Internet Applications finally be accepted as a credible application development platform for SAP?
Does SAP have any confidence in its own CRM software?  Right now SAP is touting how easy to use the new version of SAP CRM is, and yet this article implies they don't use their own product's user interface.
Now I know the eSOA mantra says this shouldn't matter, but I would say this is one of those cases where it doesn't.  If the vendor won't/can't use their own CRM software because the UI is too ugly/clumsy or other reason, why should I as a customer.
As a customer I don't want to purchase a CRM software and then have to purchase a better UI to go on top of the software.  I might as well spend the money on software that might have a better UI perceived by my sales folks(think siebel, salesforce.com, sugarcm, etc), and spend those dollars on integration instead.  It's a lot cheaper to do integration work, than completely rewrite the UI to meet my users needs.
I'm also wondering why SAP would even send this message by displaying this article on SDN? I'm sure if the guys at oracle saw this article, we would see a press release from that says something of the like:
"Even SAP acknowledges, that SAP CRM is too difficult to use".
I bring this up because we are selling use of SAP CRM 2007 in house right now, and it makes it harder for me to sell the solution to my business users, if there are conflicting messages on the market.
    Take care,
    Stephen

    > Wow, you almost have the "nightmare" scenario when it comes to maintenance.  I just have to ask what functional areas (high level) did you implement?  Was it the marketing module?
    I can tell you...
We were using Mobiles Sales with activities, campaigns, sales documents and master data and we switched that to CRM 2005 and Portal (+ adding BI reporting functionality with BI-CRM content). For the Java part there's enough said (by me) already, I won't start again with that (mess). The CRM looked pretty well at first sight but devil's in the detail.
    > The marketing module in CRM 40 was so unstable on SP08 that basically we ditched the application and wrote something custom in the SAP GUI instead.  Any t-code that had over 400 related notes(segment builder) is just a nightmare not to mention just plain bugs in the PCUI that we weren't willing to wait a month for fixes.
Well.. people have always be VERY helpful, especially the guys and girls in India were doing a very good job at fixing bugs - once the communication was done via email and not via phone...;) But you're right - it's taking sometimes too much time to get a fix and yet-another-note.
    > I still think the SAP GUI sometimes beats the web based interfaces, once you learn how to use it.  The problem was that everyone got obessed with zero-client installations and forgot about the benefits of "specialized" clients.  Now everyone is basically trying to make a web browser work like a desktop client, which puts you back full circle.
Everyone THINKS it's zero installation but in fact you have to configure proxy exceptions, add/install certificates, enable/disable Javascript things, add trusted sites, (re-)configure firewalls on Laptops, delete browser caches, install SVG viewer and other "plugins", install and maintain security fixes for the browser etc. etc. and this on a distributed environment where our sales reps are spread over the whole world in different time zones. So the "zero-installation" is nothing but marketing flowery because the maintenance you needed to put into Mobile Sales is now needed for the browser - nice antagonism
    > In would have been interesting to see how well SAP would have fared if they had made the mistake of making the original R/3 application 2-tier instead of a 3-tier client/server.
It's been like that @ R/2 times and I must tell you I loved the green screens (http://www.sapdesignguild.org/resources/images_hist/R2-0.GIF and http://www.sapdesignguild.org/resources/images_hist/SCREENO1.GIF)

  • Variant Configuration in SAP CRM

    Hello all
My client is  currently using SAP R/3 4.7 and heavily use VC for configurable products and also for pricing but in the process of moving to ECC
Now we wish to explore the possibility of using SAP CRM 7.0 to enable our sales force to use CRM Web GUI to create quotes and sales orders ( in the future)  for configurable materials.
    My questions are as following:-
    1. Is it possible to download all VC related data into CRM from R/3 including pricing? I understand that for different VC object, I will have to use different CRM objects but is it possible? If the data transfer is possible, is it typically done by a middleware resource?
    2. I would also like to confirm that by creating a run time version and Kbase is required  to enable the download to CRM.
    3. No changes are possible on the product that can be replicated back to ECC
    4. Looking at the forums - I gather that "from CRM 2007 the PME is replaced with WEB UI in CRM. IF you want to do the modeling of a product then u need to use WEB UI and also for generating the KB" - does anyone have any information on this using the XCM ?
If you could please point me to the appropriate help on this topic, I would really appreciate it.
    Best regards
    Raj

    Hi Anne,
Hope you have done the following settings -
The product is marked as configurable in the product master data.
Product configuration is activated. You activate product configuration in Customizing under Customer Relationship Management Master Data Products Settings for Configurable Products Allow Configurable Products for a Product Type . For more information about activating product configuration, see SAP Note 854170.
You have created a product model (SAP CRM), or replicated a knowledge base with the configuration master data from SAP ERP to SAP CRM
These are mentioned in the below link  -
Product Configuration with the Configuration Engine in SAP CRM - SAP Library
    Hope this will be useful.

  • Course WUS581 - Technical Details of SAP CRM Web UI

I had the opportunity to attend 'WUS581 - Technical Details of SAP CRM Web UI' last month in Atlanta.  I understand it to have been the first time the course was offered in the US.
The course was great - here's a link to the official [description|https://training.sap.com/ca/en/course/wus581-wus581-tech-details-of-sap-crm-web-ui-classroom-095-us-en/] . I believe this was an adaptation of the material from the Deep Dive Series. I have to say, that it was pretty fast paced as well - you really need to keep up as much of the material built upon what was already taught.
The materials from the class are invaluable.  The labs were well done, and offered detailed solutions.  The labs were numerous, appropriate, and clean.  Most of the twenty exercises were cumulative.  I have since gone back to review some of the concepts, and the material stands well even outside of the classroom.
This course has given me a much better understanding of the bigger picture.  While I have not come from a CRM or BSP background, I have been working with webUI on a CRM 7.0 based SAP Custom Development Solution, [Fund Raising Management|http://www.sap.com/services/portfolio/customdev/brochures/index.epx] for about half a year.  So, I had at least been exposed to the workbench and some concepts over the previous six months.  This course really helped me tie some things together.
I just wanted to share my experience with the group...
    ...Mike

    Mike,
I'm curious to find out how did you find out that the course you took was scheduled. The reason why I'm asking is that I didn't even know that SAP even offered the course in the US, so I would have tried to attend myself if I found out about in advance.
Glad to see you recommended the course.  There isn't going to be much CRM related technical content at SAP Teched in Las Vegas this year,  however there may be at least one session attending (wink-wink), that's not listed yet.  I would still recommend that CRM development folks still attend teched, because there is plenty of great technical content that we can use regardless.
    Take care,
    Stephen
