Clarification - Modifying CSS instead of Theme Editor

Hi,
I'm just after some clarification.  The client I am at has a proper web design team.  Therefore they would rather edit the css files than use the theme editor.  I assume I just zip up the relevant directories under usr/sap...../theme/mytheme which contain the css files, edit them and then put them back in the relevant directory?
Is this the case or do you have to do something else?
Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul,
this is as it should work - but keep in mind that you nevertheless should create your own theme and then download the css files, edit them and copy them to the portal server again!
SAP's standard themes are overwritten with every patch / support package you will implement, so your changes will be lost.
Hth,
Michael

  • Theme Editor Eclipse / Portal Theme Editor

    Hi folks,
I want to import a theme, that is created within portal, into my Eclipse theme editor.
The import was done successfully, but the changes done to theme in portal are not visible in here.
Does anyone have the same problem or a solution:
    Portal Basis Stack NW2004s SPS10
    Eclipse NW2004s SPS 10

    Hi Sebastian,
have u copied the modified theme folder onto this path :--
    <Drive name>:sap<instance name>JC00j2eeclusterserver0     empwebdynprowebsap.com     cwddispwdaglobalSSR     hemes
or instead of modifying the theme in portal u can modify it in ur theme editor and than copying the modified theme at the above path should solve ur problem .
and have a look on this pdf:--

  • Modifying Existing css of a theme

    Hi

but now when i switch theme, there is no css on the webpage. Any idea?????

    Hi,
The location of your images directory depends on how you setup your APEX instance. Do you know which database version you're using? And whether you've configured your APEX instance to use the embedded gateway, which would be the default configuration on Oracle XE and 11g. Or did you setup APEX with mod_plsq or the APEX listener? Assuming you've installed XE, and you're using the embedded gateway, then your images are actually stored in the database (XML DB), and you would need to access your images folder via FTP or WebDAV. There are several blog posts out there that talk about how to connect to the images folder via FTP, here's one: http://www.apex-blog.com/oracle-apex/accessing-i-using-ftp-170.html If you're using any of the other configurations, your images directory would simply be a local folder on the machine running your web server.
As for creating a theme, there isn't really a "guide" out there that documents how to build a new theme. But the theme structure, templates, etc are documented in the APEX user guide. To start building a new theme, I would recommend starting out with an existing one that you like, ideally one that was recently modernized by us. I would recommend themes 21-23 as starting points. And then I would create a CSS file to overwrite some of the classes in the theme CSS file, rather than directly modifying the CSS file that ships with APEX. You should also use tools like Firebug, or the built-in developer functions in Chrome/Safari to try out different CSS settings. With our modernized themes you should be able to get most customizations done through CSS. So I would suggest staying away from actually altering the templates as much as possible, at least in the beginning.

    Marc

  • Theme Editor  and CSS files

    Hi all,
    NetWeaver Portal 2004 SP16
For those of you who have worked with the Theme Editor probably feel the same way as I do: it's just not good enough. It allows you to change some styles but really for real changes one has to edit the million stylesheets manually.
When going down that road, the Theme Editor becomes useless because it overwrites your manually applied changes.
As long as you reapply your changes afterwards, this works pretty good but I'm still confused about one thing. The stylesheets that are actually called from the webpage are followed by some sort of counter. For example:
../prtl_std/prtl_std_ie6.css?6.0.16.0.31 The last number increases everytime you save a theme in the Theme Editor, so it acts as a version numner (see themeInfo.properties).
And now the annoying part: this <u>sometimes</u> prevents my manual changes to be read (one can check this by inspecting the css files in browser cache).
My question: what does this counter do? Are themes also stored in the PCD / database and if so where? What can be done to have the portal ALWAYS push the css files from the irj/portalapps/com.sap.portal.design.portaldesigndata/themes/portal directory?
    Cheers
    Marcel

The counter works with the database. It is actually possible to edit other (no visible) style sheet classes via the Theme Editor

  • Appling Custom Themes using Eclipse Themes Editor

    Hi experts,
I have a problem. I think to modify css file using Eclipse. I download Eclipse Theme Editor ( https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/a026b4ce-de48-2a10-7285-fb457ee6c7ed) and I follow documentation steps from documentation but when I try to create SAP UR Project ( after add jar to plugin folder ) this option isn't available. Otherwise how can I modify css file??
    Thank in advance

    hi
if you are using EP 7.0 , you may have go to Visual ADMIN , in the configuration adapter , there
is PropertyStyleSHeet , there is you can find webdynpro property ,
Re: Trouble with Appplication after modifying WebDynpro Theme
you can go through this thread ,  if you are using CE 7.1 you have to navigate to NWA
configuration management , infrastructure , application modules , tp~wdpa ,  search for this
and then  in the properties you have provide the Custom theme name you have created .

since you get an out of memory error, I would start by increasing the Maximum Heap Size in the JVM settings of the J2EE Engine to at least 1GB. I beleive this mught help.

  • Theme editor doesn't work anymore after install of KMC

I have a portal 6.0.9.4 (stack 9 with patch 4) in which I have developed a few themes with the portal theme editor. Today I have added KMC (also stack 9, patch2) and the installation of KMC has succeeded.
Now every user has a portal favorites iview (part of KMC), but this iview (which is shown in the navigation panel) has the standard color layout and does not match the one that I have designed.
When I open the theme navigator it works, but when i select another option, for example layout of navigation panel instead of the masthead iview, the preview of the navigation panel doesn't appear. After this the complete portal fails, because I get a java exception error as you can see at the bottom of this message. The J2E engine has to be restarted to get the portal running again.
I believe that after installation of KMC the number of options in the theme editor should be increased, because it must be possible to choose the layout of the portal favorites iview, but this cannot be seen in the theme editor. Maybe the theme editor is looking for these settings and it cannot find them. Am I right about this? I also tried to open the standard SAP themes, but this doesn't solve the problem. The problem with the standard themes is the same.
    Best regards,
    J. Winkelmans

  • Using CSS for portal theme

    Hi,
I have 1 css file which I should use to build the EP theme. This theme will be used by all the web dynpro applications deployed on this portal. Is there any way i can use the CSS file directly rather than using the theme editor in NW developer studio.
Pls suggest the possible ways of creating this new theme.
    Thanks
    Puneet.

    Hi Puneet
you can create the css in css folder while creating new par project in nwds and also use it by refering it in component.i.e incuding it in component to be rendered.

I would like to create or modify an existing Web Theme in order to have my site follow the Fluid Grid principles of Responsive Web design.

    Thanks, in advance.

I found a solution that worked for me.
I removed all the fonts that Adobe CC installed out of my Library:Fonts folder and just left in the Apple Basic fonts like Arial, Courier etc... Launched Dreamweaver CC and the CSS designer panel works. I have no idea exactly which font it is, or creating the conflict. All I know is that it works great now.

very strange - I installed Illustrator CC and then I had no more problems with Dreamweaver! No more crashes when close or create files and no more problems with the CSS designer. Error messages during create fluid grid layouts are also gone ...
    Michel:
I think I figured it out on the Mac. Be sure that Verdana is activated in Font Book. What tipped me off to this was a warning I was receiving when trying to open After Effects. It was saying that the program needed Verdana for the user interface to work. I thought that maybe Dreamweaver needed Verdana too. Sure enough! Hope this helps you guys.

  • Why Portal will be slow when we work on Theme Editor

    Hi Experts,
Why Portal will be slow when we work on Theme Editor in Creating new Theme or modifying existing one.
Note: Since i have done Branding for 6 to 7 Clients i fell same , portal runs very slow.
    Thanks
    Vijai

    Hi,
use the Eclipse Theme Editor. No need to be logged on in the portal, hence: faster. You'll only have to upload the theme afterwards to the portal.

  • Plugin for theme editor.

    Hi
In order to customize themes in web Dynpro we need 2 things.
    1. standard themes provided by SAP, which we can modify. which are available at following link.
        https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/downloaditem?rid=/webcontent/uuid/151c9556-0e01-0010-  dabc-8cb4191bd49b
    2. Plugins for NWDS (Eclipse), so that i get required options and perspectives to edit these themes in NWDS.
From where I can get these plugins.
Please help me out of this.
    Thanks.

Or directly using this link... select the SP level of your NWDS and download the theme editor.
you need to have FTP access for this

  • SAP UI5 theme editor

    Hello all,
I have few doubts regarding UI5 theme editor tool.
Theme editor tool is used to create custom themes. we copy an existing theme and make changes in that. After that that theme is published and used.
    1. Where can we see the library.css file of newly created theme?
    2. Can we edit it out side theme builder?
    Regards,
    Krishnakant

    Hi Chandrashekhar,
    Thanks for your reply.
I read your blog. After downloading that theme to local system and putting it in resource folder of UI5 application after making some changes, is also an option for deployment.
for example. If i have to change a theme of a fiori application,
    I can
    1. download that fiori application, create my own css and call it in index.html file.
    2. create a custom theme and use the option
    https://<host>:<port>/sap/public/bc/ui5_ui5/demokit/test-resources/sap/ui/ux3/Shell.html?sap-ui-theme=cm_sap_goldreflection@https://<host>:<port>/sap/public/bc/themes/~client-<client>
Now do we have any way to access that custom .css file of newly created theme without downloading ?
Like If this library resides in BSP repository then i can open it from there and make changes + also can make changes for the same theme using theme builder.
    any idea?
