While we create new application why we choose reference application & source application
please clarify me, why we give
source application as Planning,
source application type as Finance
rate application as Rate
sometimes Source application as Sales

Hi,
Source application is the application from where the templates will be copied into the new application. Every application has few inbuilt templates (for reports, input schedules, DM packages, etc). These objects are copied from the source application to the newly created application.
Application type determines what is the purpose of your application. Whether is should be a reporting or non-reporting type? Whether the purpose is to do planning or consolidation? You will get more information on this from the below link from help.sap:

I understand what's happening from an academic vantage point. I just don't understand why you'd want to convert REFERENCE TYPES? What would be an application of such an exercise?
1. What IS a REFERENCE TYPE -- exactly?
a. what are we referencing?
b. type? type of what??
for example... why would you want to do a widening conversion, a conversion of the hierarchy tree?
I understand the concept of OBJECTS, CLASSES, METHODS and CONSTRUCTORS so far...
I think it's the terminology that's screwing my up.

I just ran with the example you had, but that probably included too many concepts and they got muddied up.
Yes, Chevy, Ford etc. all share the characteristics of Auto, since they're all subclasses. But that's just inheritance, and has nothing to do with casting.
A "reference type" can loosely be described as a variable that refers to an object. (Constrasted with "primitive types" which are int, char, float, etc. and don't refer to objects--they just hold values.)
Casting just tells the compiler that even though as far as it knows you only have a reference to some superclass, the object that reference points to will in fact be an instance of a subclass, and so treat it as such (e.g., we can now call methods that the subclass has that the superclass lacks).
(You can also cast primitives, but one thing at a time.)
So let's say you have class A (which extends object) and B extends A.
A a = new B();
B b = a; // won't compile. compiler sees the "A a" on the left of the =, not "new B()" on the right.
B b = (B)a; // works because we're telling the compiler, "Dude, I'm seriously. This is a B.
Note that if we had done new A() instead of new B(), it would still compile--the compiler would trust us. But at runtime, we'd get a ClassCastException, since we wouldn't actually have a B object.

Endeca Reference application issue

I am getting below message while deploying discover reference application.
Found version 6.1 of the Endeca IAP installed in directory
D:\Endeca\PlatformServices\6.1.3. If either the version or location are

**Does any one know why this is coming??.**
I have cross checked Endeca root directory and Platform service location. Both are same.

The new properties will have to be added to product-sku-output-config.xml, which went under /atg/commerce/search in 10.1.0 (the location might have changed in 10.1.1). Check the ATG Endeca Integration guide for exact steps.

Reference application and logging - use of ENE_TIME and PAGE_TIME-custom va

Hello.
In the Orange Box reference application there are log variable/values for ENE_TIME and PAGE_TIME.
Can these varibles be variables used in reporting? If not - can they be?
Also, If one puts additional entries into the log statements (such as OTS_HOST) can these entries be used for filtering via tweaking of the XSL report templates?
Can reports - other than the reports that come out of the box - be added to Workbench?

Missing VI - RF Record and Playback Reference Application

Tried to load and run "RF Record and Playback Reference Application" just posted on Developer zone. Have all correct versions of SW. Missing MITEoptimization.llb containing optimizeMITe.vi. Found the win32fileiovis but still missing this one. Reference to "file below" on web site but not there.

1. ALE is Application Link Enabling (ALE)
It is the set of tools, programs, and data definitions that provides the mechanism for distributing SAP functionality and data across multiple systems. ALE enables the construction and operation of distributed applications.
Its purpose was to overcome the limitations of a single SAP system. A single SAP system that runs on top of one database often does not fulfill the needs of larger corporations, either from a business or a technical perspective.ALE allows the implementation of loosely coupled SAP systems; each of the SAP systems has its own database and is essentially independent from the other systems. ALE allows us to distribute data between different systems and different business processes.
ALE enables you to transfer data(master/transactional data) from an SAP system to SAP/Non-SAP system you can use ALE.This done using IDOCs.
ALE can be divided into
Output Process: Extracting data from database and putting it in the IDOC.
Communication Process: Which involves transferring the IDOC to the target system.
Inbound Process: Posting the IDOC data into the tables of the receiver system.
2. SLA is service level agreement, what you need on this ?? Its an agreement betn client and service provider regarding the service request and their resolution. Like P! issue should be solved in 1 hr , P2 issue 3 hr..something like that, varies from client to client
3. RSMO is used to monitor the data load in BW. You have several options to restrict your criteria to monitor load.
In SM37 if you goto the job and double click on that, it brings you to another screen with some details for the job. IN this screen if you hit the job details button in the resulting screen, it'll show you a PID number and an executing server number. With this combination, you can check the job in SM50.

Reclustering InfoCubes:
With reclustering, the InfoCube fact tables are always completely converted. The system createsshadow tables with a new clustering schema and copies all of the data from the original tables into the shadow tables. As soon as the data is copied, the system creates indexes and the original table replaces the shadow table. After the reclustering request has been successfully completed, both fact tables exist in their original state (name of shadow table) as well as in their modified state with the new clustering schema (name of original table).
You can only use reclustering for InfoCubes. Reclustering deactivates the active aggregates of the InfoCubes; they are reactivated after the conversion.
Reclustering DataStore Objects
Reclustering completely converts the active table of the DataStore object. The system creates a shadow table with a new clustering schema and copies all of the data from the original table into the shadow table. As soon as the data is copied, the system creates indexes and the original table replaces the shadow table. After the reclustering request has been successfully completed, both active tables exist in their original state (name of shadow table) as well as in their modified state with the new clustering schema (name of original table).
You can only use reclustering for standard DataStore objects and DataStore objects for direct update. You cannot use reclustering for write-optimized DataStore objects. User-defined multidimensional clustering is not available for write-optimized DataStore objects.

Needs Clarification Regarding Segments and Datafiles

Hi,
I want clarification regarding Segments, Datafiles and extents.
As we know that A segment is made of one or more extents and extents are composed of one or more datablocks in the HD.
Since all data are store in Datafiles which are composed of extents and datablocks. I want to know weather a table(Segment) can span to multiple datafiles or in a sigle datafile.

E-Recruiting : Regarding Internal applications & offer letters

Dear Experts,
I have a few clarifications & some client requirements that i need help on. Pls provide your inputs regarding the same :
1) What is the purpose of internal candidates applying for jobs? Can they be selected for a position even though they already hold a position in the company? Is the data transferred from eRecruiting to ECC in such a case like new hires? I would liek to know what is the end result of an internal application?
2) Can an external applicant change his application details once he has submitted his application in the application wizard? If so, how can he do it. I coule not open the application wizard once the application is submitted.
3) Can the search for candidates be somehow restricted that already hired applicants are not displayed in the list? Can it be restricted based on some custom criteris like blacklisting of candidates etc?How can we ensure that TREX does not display the relevant NA objects? Locking & Releasing of profiles will not suit as the candidates also themselves can change this
4)Client would like to keep a track of the offer letters sent to a candidate & serialise this. For Eg: They would want to track the number of offers sent to the candidate & should be able to come back to a particular offer letter & reprint it again. The multiple versions of offer letters would into picture if the hiring date is changed etc.
5) Is it possible to print multiple copies of the offer letter at one time?
Your inputs & ideas on any of the above points will be much appreciated.

some more details to the questions you asked:
Question 1:
There are different strategies and processes how employees develop within a company but for most of them the development includes an organizational change at a certain point as you can hardly reshape the position character all the time arount the expectations and abilities of an employee. One of these strategies is succession planning combined with personal development. The hr organization and the management define a development plan for and with an employee train him to use his full potential than just let him rot where he was once hired. This is in the interest of the company and the employee. But succession planning is a business which requires a lot of effort and so it is usually only done with a certain level / group of employees.
Another way is to allow the employees to develop by applying for a job if they think it is a chance to improve and build their talents. In many companies there are even regulations that a new position or a position which needs a successor has to be offered to the employees first before hr is allowed to start looking for an external candidate.
So hr publishes a new position like a team lead for a production area and every worker from the area or even from other devisions can apply. The go through the process af candidate evaluation and if one employee fullfills the requrements he moves in the organization. Technically this is usually an organizational change. A special version of this startegy of internal hiring can be found in reshaping companies which go through a complete restructuring. I have done projects where e-recruiting is just used that every employee from the old organization finds his new chair in the organization. In these cases it is much easier to just let people apply for the position they want instead of trying to plan the move of 10k employees.
The data for such an internal hiring is only partly transfered to the ECC system. It already has the employees data so only the new position and the date of change have to be transfered if not the hr admins enter it directly in the ECC.
Question 2:
In the current state of sap e-recruiting which ist E-Recruiting 603 (which means e-recruiting 600 plus EhP3) the candidate can not change the application related data he entered after submitting the application, but he can chang his profile data by logging into his startpage. The application related data which can not be changed include the cover letter and the application source. Everything else belongs to the profile therefore is not apllication dependent and can be changed.
Question 3:
The search for candidates finds candidates which released their profile only as they agreed to be checked on other positions than the ones the originally applied for.
If a candidate is hired he is changed from external to internal and the profile of internal candidates is locked by defauled. Same way for cnadidates you want to exclude from search as long as he does not rerelese the profile. Their profile can be locked by a recruiter creating a status change for it. To track the evaluation of the candidate there are ranking and questionaire activities which can be included in the search.
Question 4:
Changed letters are serealized but the parts which are not in the editable letter section depend on the smartform as do unchanged letters. You will probably not be able to use e-recruiting as records managemet for offer letters. In addition due to the restrictions of the letter change most projects I have been working in only create the first page from e-recruiting while the contract itself is done outside the system.
Question 5:
You can hit the print button several times every thing else requires modification or customer development.

Clarification sought about Application type and library availability

I am new to Adobe's product line and am confused about something and would be grateful for some clarification.
In Flex Builder 3 when creating a new Project, there is an Application type radio button:
O Web application (runs in Flash Player)
O Desktop application (runs in Adobe AIR)
Is my understanding correct that if I choose "Web application", classes identified in the documentation as "AIR only" (e.g. HTMLLoader class) will be unavailable to my app?
Here's the source of my confusion. The class is called flash.html.HTMLLoader and the class is found in the flash.html package, but the documentation reads "(AIR only)".
Do I have to choose "Desktop application" when creating the new project if I want the app to have access to the HTMLLoader class (and others marked "AIR" in the docs)?

Yes, that's exactly right.
I assume the source of the confusion is that the "AIR only" classes are still in the flash.* package. In the early days there was some discussion back and forth about the appropriate place to put AIR only classes. In the end it was decided that they would be in the same top-level package as the Flash Player classes.
(To add to the confusion, there is also an air.* package. That package contains classes that are AIR-only but are not built-in to AIR. In other words, they're additional code libraries that make certain functionality easier, but they're written in ActionScript and run on top of AIR just like any ActionScript code you write, rather than being part of the AIR runtime.)

Mobile Engine 7.0 SP14

MSAHH 5.0
I need clarifications on the below points.
1) According to SAP note;677476 DB29.1.2 needs to be used is it correct?
2) when we run mobile application the tables will automatically create under C:/Programfiles/SAP Mobile Infrastructure/data.
I am able to find some of the tables under the above location,
but how to view this tables.
3) How can i see the structure of the DB2e tables. Is there any client tool avaliable(like sql editor). I heard it is DB2eCLPU is freely downloadable from sdn. But i can't able to find the link. can you please provide the correct link?
4) Is xMSA application is the GenericSync application or Smart sync application

A. You are correct. As specified in note, you need to install Db2e 9.1.2 for MI 7.0 SP 14 and higher versions.

A. As you specified in point 3, Db2eCLP is the tool that you can use to access all the tables and content inside this tables. But it is not a special tool with all GUI elements, instead it opens up a command prompt and you need to fire SQL queries.
