Class variables don't exist at initialize() time?

Excerpt of Global.mxml (default package):
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

]]>
</fx:Script>
</fx:Object>
When I run the app I get an error in Initialize() because Global is null. Global is a class name and Global.app is a class variable, a static. How can they not exist at initialize time? Suggestions for how to deal with this? Thanks.

No, running just these files doesn't exhibit the issue for me. I'm using Flex 4.1. However, I was able to come up with a minimal set of files that does show the problem. Slam.mxml is the same as before. Global.mxml becomes:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<fx:Object xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx">
<fx:Script>
<![CDATA[
public static var app:Slam = null;
public static const WIDGET_COLOR:uint = 0x987654;
public static var widgets:Widgets = new Widgets();
]]>
</fx:Script>
</fx:Object>
and add an additional file, Widgets.as:
package
public class Widgets
public function Widgets()
wColor = Global.WIDGET_COLOR;
protected var wColor:int;
This blows up with Global == null at the wColor initialization in Widgets.as. I suspect there is some sort of chicken-and-egg issue going on here. That Global isn't fully setup until it has initialized its widgets member, but initializing the widgets member needs Global fully setup.
Moving the initialization of the widgets member to a separate Initialize function in Global, called from Slam.Initialize(), fixes the problem.

• Deauthorizing computers that don't exist

How am I supposed to deauthorize computers that don't exist? Every time I've had to reinstall Windows, iTunes eats up another "authorization". Now all 5 authorizations are taken, and my iTunes purchases are useless. I only have 1 computer, Apple, so make this easier for Windows users, will you?

Every time I've had to reinstall Windows, iTunes eats up another "authorization".
Your supposed to deathorize BEFORE a re-install. Not after. iTunes makes it very easy to do that.
Now all 5 authorizations are taken, and my iTunes purchases are useless. I only have 1 computer, Apple, so make this easier for Windows users, will you?
Apple makes it easy enough to de-authorize your computer. You can even do a de-authorize all once a year. Log on your account and you should be able to not only view your authorizations, but have an option to de-authorize all of them.

• HOW-TO initialize class variable

How can an annotation initialize a class variable? For example, JEE5 has an annotation called @EJB that initializes a class variable with a remote or local interface:
@Stateless class Foo
@EJB bar;
bar.scoobyDoobyDoo(); // I can use bar seemingly before it was initialized!
In general terms, how can annotation be used to initialize class variables?

It can't.
What it can do is tell something else that this needs to be done, and that something else can do it.
That something else might be an annotation processor running at build / compile time, which might generate some code to do it, or might generate some configuration file that causes it to be done later.
That something else might alternatively be a runtime artifact, that can look at the annotation and carry out the requested operation. For example a container could do it.
So an annotation cannot do anything, including initailizing a class variable, but it can declare that the class variable needs to be initialized in some way.

• Time Machine only keeps two days backup, displays old backups that don't exist. Occurs on two separate HDD's

I have a 15" 2010 MBP C2D-2.53 in completely original form except it is running OSX 10.8. Applecare just ran out so that's not an option, FYI. Lately I went to fetch an old file from TM because the current file was corrupt and I noticed that TM was only backing up for the past couple of recent days. Oddly enough, it also displayed a couple of backups dated from 2010, even though the external HDD I'm using was purchased 2 months ago and the files displayed in the "2010" backup did not exist at that time so it's an impossibility. The backup disc is a toshiba canvio external 320gb USB.
I thought that was odd so I zeroed and reformatted that disc using disc utility. I made it the TM disc again, did the usual backup without error and waited a couple of days. Sure enough, when I checked it had continued the trend of displaying the impossible 2010-dated backup and was still only backing up the past couple of days' material correctly. I decided that this was all getting a bit silly, so I plugged an old external WD USB hard drive, formatted it and made it my second time machine backup disc. Waited a couple of days, accessed it, saw the same exact thing as with the other external drive.
I'm perplexed, however based on these rudimentary tests I'm guessing the culprit lies with the machine rather than the external hard drives. These facts may be unrelated, but I also notice that when I go to eject the toshiba external drive, it says something like "there is more than one partition, would you like to eject one or all" and the machine also had some work done on it by Apple recently. Specifically, a new logic board, airport card and complete erase/install where I reinstalled data successfully through migration assistant. The work was done due to kernel panics at boot. Thankfully for now I've also got CCC cloning the drive, but I do require the long-term snapshots that TM takes.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I'm willing to do some digging to fix this issue.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

• Class variable initialization

I have noticed that class variable initialization occurs AFTER the constructor is called.
Why is this, and is this intentional?
It has caused strange behaviour in my SE java applications I am porting to MIDP.
Thanks
- Adam

Hi,
Error 1:
The problem only arises if you use the unassigned variable:
int i;
int y = i; // Use of unassigned variable here
you can just assign a value to i to solve this:
int i = 0;
int y = i; // Use of unassigned variable here
Error 2 and 3 have to do with static and non-static, not with the initialization per se. This is how it works:
static members (e.g. fields) can be accessed using this syntax: <Classname>.<FieldName>, e.g:
public static class Helpers
public static int SomeDataValue { get; set; }
class Program
static void Main(string[] args)
Helpers.SomeDataValue = 22;
On the other hand, non-static members are accessed like this: <instance>.<fieldname>. So you always need an instance of a class to access the field:
public class Order
public int OrderNumber { get; set; }
class Program
static void Main(string[] args)
Order o = new Order();
o.OrderNumber = 12;

• "unknown user type" exception when the object don't exist for i/p key.

Hi
I'm using Coherence REST service(comes with the Coherence bundle) to validate my cache data.
When I hit the cache for a valid key, I get data returned back. But for the object that don't exist in the cache I get "Internal Server" error.
I'm fine with "Internal Server" response show in the browser, but I don't want it to be printed as part of my coherence logs.
For example, when I hit the REST url for key that don't exist in the cache, I get below exception in coherence logs.
How can I get rid off it (or) suppress the exception logs.
Thanks for your time.

• Class variable declaration

Hello.
Just looking through some code and I see a class variable declared as so...
static final MessageDigest digestFunction;
static { // The digest method is reused between instances to provide higher entropy.
MessageDigest tmp;
try {
tmp = java.security.MessageDigest.getInstance(hashName);
} catch (NoSuchAlgorithmException e) {
tmp = null;
digestFunction = tmp;
}I have never come accoss a variable being declared in this way and it looks strange. The use of static before the opening brace is strange to me, and just the fact that this is not inside the constructor. Would this code be run after or before code inside the class constuctor?
Thanks for any help, just a little confused!

Sir_Dori wrote:
Ah yes, of course it could not be within the constructor as it is static, sorry.
So when would the class be loaded? Could this be the first time the ClassName.staticBlockVar is accessed, Most likely, yes. The first time something else uses the class. Classloading in Java is lazy.
Also, is the code not reevaluated every time it is referenced ?No. Only when the class is loaded (actually, when it's initialized, but usually it boils down to the same thing)
You can write some simple tests for this, by writing a constructor and a static initializer, then instantiating it twice, for example. Don't be afraid to just play around with code to test assumptions. I find JUnit very handy for experimenting with assumptions.

Than you for any suggestion.

I hope you do realise that there are 13 bind-variables in your sql, not 6?
Variables are bound by position. You cannot use the same bind variable twice, they will be 2 distinct bind variables.
For example, you use :1 three times, so you need to provide three arguments, in this case three times the same value.

• Re: [iPlanet-JATO] Re: Use Of models in utility classes - Pease don't forget about the regular expression potential

Namburi,
When you said you used the Reg Exp tool, did you use it only as
preconfigured by the iMT migrate application wizard?
Because the default configuration of the regular expression tool will only
target the files in your ND project directories. If you wish to target
classes outside of the normal directory scope, you have to either modify the
"Source Directory" property OR create another instance of the regular
expression tool. See the "Tool" menu in the iMT to create additional tool
instances which can each be configured to target different sets of files
using different sets of rules.
Usually, I utilize 3 different sets of rules files on a given migration:
spider2jato.xml
these are the generic conversion rules (but includes the optimized rules for
ViewBean and Model based code, i.e. these rules do not utilize the
RequestManager since it is not needed for code running inside the ViewBean
or Model classes)
I run these rules against all files.
See the file download section of this forum for periodic updates to these
rules.
nonProjectFileRules.xml
these include rules that add the necessary
RequestManager.getRequestContext(). etc prefixes to many of the common
calls.
I run these rules against user module and any other classes that do not are
not ModuleServlet, ContainerView, or Model classes.
appXRules.xml
these rules include application specific changes that I discover while
working on the project. A common thing here is changing import statements
(since the migration tool moves ND project code into different jato
packaging structure, you sometime need to adjust imports in non-project
classes that previously imported ND project specific packages)
So you see, you are not limited to one set of rules at all. Just be careful
to keep track of your backups (the regexp tool provides several options in
its Expert Properties related to back up strategies).

Also, (and Matt's document may mention this)
Please bear in mind that this statement is not totally correct:
Since the migration tool does not do much of conversion for
these
utilities we have to do manually.Remember, the iMT is a SUITE of tools. There is the extractiontool, and
the translation tool, and the regular expression tool, and severalother
smaller tools (like the jar and compilation tools). It is correctto state
that the extraction and translation tools only significantlyconvert the
primary ND project objects (the pages, the data objects, and theproject
classes). The extraction and translation tools do minimumtranslation of the
User Module objects (i.e. they repackage the user module classes inthe new
jato module packages). It is correct that for all other utilityclasses
which are not formally part of the ND project, the extraction and
translation tools do not perform any migration.
However, the regular expression tool can "migrate" any arbitrary
file
(utility classes etc) to the degree that the regular expressionrules
correlate to the code present in the arbitrary file. So first andforemost,
if you have alot of spider code in your non-project classes youshould
consider using the regular expression tool and if warranted adding
additional rules to reduce the amount of manual adjustments thatneed to be
made. I can stress this enough. We can even help you write theregular
expression rules if you simply identify the code pattern you wish to
convert. Just because there is not already a regular expressionrule to
match your need does not mean it can't be written. We have notnearly
exhausted the possibilities.
For example if you say, we need to convert
CSpider.getDataObject("X");
To
RequestManager.getRequestContext().getModelManager().getModel(XModel.class);
Maybe we or somebody else in the list can help write that regularexpression if it has not already been written. For instance in thelast
updated spider2jato.xml file there is already aCSpider.getCommonPage("X")
rule:
<!--getPage to getViewBean-->
<mapping-rule>
<mapping-rule-primarymatch>
<![CDATA[CSpider[.\s]*getPage[\s]*\(\"([^"]*)\"]]>
</mapping-rule-primarymatch>

<mapping-rule-substitute>
<![CDATA[getViewBean($1ViewBean.class]]>
</mapping-rule-substitute>
</mapping-rule-replacement>
</mapping-rule>
Following this example a getDataObject to getModel would look

<![CDATA[CSpider[.\s]*getDataObject[\s]*\(\"([^"]*)\"]]>

<![CDATA[CSpider[.\s]*getDataObject[\s]*\(\"([^"]*)\"]]>
</mapping-rule-match>
<mapping-rule-substitute>
<![CDATA[getModel($1Model.class]]>
</mapping-rule-substitute>
</mapping-rule-replacement>
</mapping-rule>
In fact, one migration developer already wrote that rule andsubmitted it
for inclusion in the basic set. I will post another upgrade to thebasic
regular expression rule set, look for a "file uploaded" posting.Also,
please consider contributing any additional generic rules that youhave
written for inclusion in the basic set.
Please not, that in some cases (Utility classes in particular)
the rule
application may be more effective as TWO sequention rules ratherthan one
monolithic rule. Again using the example above, it will convert
CSpider.getDataObject("Foo");
To
getModel(FooModel.class);
Now that is the most effective conversion for that code if that
code is in
a page or data object class file. But if that code is in a Utilityclass you
really want:
>
RequestManager.getRequestContext().getModelManager().getModel(FooModel.class
So to go from
getModel(FooModel.class);
To
RequestManager.getRequestContext().getModelManager().getModel(FooModel.class
You would apply a second rule AND you would ONLY run this rule
against
your utility classes so that you would not otherwise affect yourViewBean
and Model classes which are completely fine with the simplegetModel call.
<mapping-rule>
<mapping-rule-primarymatch>
<![CDATA[getModel\(]]>
</mapping-rule-primarymatch>
<mapping-rule-replacement>
<mapping-rule-match>

<![CDATA[RequestManager.getRequestContext().getModelManager().getModel(]]>
</mapping-rule-substitute>
</mapping-rule-replacement>
</mapping-rule>
A similer rule can be applied to getSession and other CSpider APIcalls.
For instance here is the rule for converting getSession calls toleverage
the RequestManager.
<mapping-rule>
<mapping-rule-primarymatch>

I will post a document to the group site this evening which has
the
details
on various tactics of migrating these type of utilities.
Essentially,
you
either need to convert these utilities to Models themselves or
keep the
utilities as is and simply use the
RequestManager.getRequestContext.getModelManager().getModel()
to statically access Models.
For CSpSelect.executeImmediate() I have an example of customhelper
method
as a replacement whicch uses JDBC results instead of
CSpDBResult.

Hi All,
In the present ND project we have lots of utility classes.
These
classes in diffrent directory. Not part of nd pages.
In these classes we access the dataobjects and do themanipulations.
So we access dataobjects directly like
CSpider.getDataObject("do....");
and then execute it.
Since the migration tool does not do much of conversion forthese
utilities we have to do manually.
My question is Can we access the the models in the postmigration
sameway or do we need requestContext?
We have lots of utility classes which are DataObjectintensive. Can
someone suggest a better way to migrate this kind of code.
Thanks

Namburi,
I will post a document to the group site this evening which has
the
details
on various tactics of migrating these type of utilities.
Essentially,
you
either need to convert these utilities to Models themselves or
keep the
utilities as is and simply use the
RequestManager.getRequestContext.getModelManager().getModel()
to statically access Models.
For CSpSelect.executeImmediate() I have an example of customhelper
method
as a replacement whicch uses JDBC results instead of
CSpDBResult.

Subject: [iPlanet-JATO] Use Of models in utility classes
Hi All,
In the present ND project we have lots of utility classes.
These
classes in diffrent directory. Not part of nd pages.
In these classes we access the dataobjects and do themanipulations.
So we access dataobjects directly like
CSpider.getDataObject("do....");
and then execute it.
Thanks
Namburi

• Object class name does not exist in IDM

Hi Team
We are process of Integrating GRC 10.1 to Enterprise Portal.Followed accordingly as per the SAP Note No. 1977781.
While running the Schema Job, we get a message Schema Imported Suxcessfully. While running the Job : GRAC_REPOSITORY_SYNC_JOB, the job
shows successful, but a Warning Message : User Adaptor Empty in SLG1 T.code.
I have checked the Path suffix,connectors,data source and all are maintained but no sure about this warning message.
Secondly,I tried for test creation of user on Portal via GRC 10.1.I am getting below error
"Object class name does not exist in IDM" Please see log below
Request gets closed stating Auto Provisioning failed.Please advice if someone has faced same issue and the steps taken to rectify it.
Thanks
Nitesh

Hi Nitesh,
We worked on this issue for quiet sometime with SAP to get this finally fixed You can check all below mentioned notes.
First Check:
Please check the Note: 1915763 - Error Provisioning from GRC 10 to SAP Portal while adding or removing a role in Change Account request type.
This Note says that if your LDAP set as data source is read-only in Portal, then you need to change it to Modifiable in order to allow create or change user belonging to LDAP.
We have set the UME correctly and no longer read-only. But our access requests still used to fail with the following messages.
"Object class name does not exist in IDM".
Second Check:
Kindly ensure the field mapping for portal is done in IMG settings properly.
If it is fine please check below note 2033714 - AC10.0: error in SGL1 "Object class name does not exist in IDM".
This note is only to check if you have made any mistake with your portal mapping and doesn't address the correct issue.
Third Check:
Finally after implementing SAP note 1941250 - UAM: Truncated parameters provisioned on changing users from Access Request
our issue got fixed.
Regards,
Madhu.

• Assign a value to class variable

I want to define a class variable in class. And I want all subclasses of that class ot have a different value for that class variable. How can I do that?
public class BaseClass {
public static String tableName = "";
}Now if I have a ClassA and I want to assign a value like this :
public class ClassA extends BaseClass {
tableName = "location";
} I got an error message.
I can move it in a static initializer block but then it will only work when the class is loaded. In my case its possible i want to get this value without loading the class.
Ditto if i move it to constructor.
Any input? Thanks

Are you saying that if i have 2 classes ClassA and
ClassB inherited from BaseClass, then both are
sharing the same copy of 'tableName' staticvariable?
If yes then I should go with an instance variable.No, I am saying that you can easily declare a
tablName in A and another tableName in B.
A.tableName will be shared between all the instances
s of A. B.tableName will be shared between all the
instances of B. And BaseClass.tableName is
irelevant. I think you try to use
BaseClass.tableName as some kind of template for
sub-classes, but this does not happen: you need to
declare tableName again and again in each subclass.
IThanks for clarifying. Each class needs to have a variable "tableName" and it needs to have one copy of this variable for all of that class's objects. 2 classes will not have the same value of this tableName variable.
Thats why I was defining it as static variable. And I define it in BaseClass so that I dont have to define it again in each subclass.
Is there any better way? Thanks

• Well its another 3rd gen. 8gb ipod touch problem. Apparently they don't exist and that really ticks me off because the apple packaging clearly stated it was an 8gb 3rd gen. and now i can't update it. Apple lied and now im paying for it.I better get a new1

A year or two back i dad just used up all of my money to buy a brand new ipod touch 3rd gen. 8gb. I bought it at a local sams club and i even still have the packaging that says it was an 8gb 3rd gen. But Apple lied to me because it is only an 2nd gen. I looked it up and they don't exist. Now i can't get any games or anything because of thier false advertisement and ripping us off (as you can't update from iOS 4.2.1). This also happened to many of my friends and other Apple customers throughout the U.S. It was an unopened product from Apple. Since they tricked us i hold Apple accountable. I demand a refund and anyone else in this delemma please share your story. APPLE OWES ME A REFUND.

I see that you have the same problem as guys in the sites I found.
http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/54866
http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/55334
http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/55180
I think most of them manage to came out either with FULL REFUND, with 75-90% DISCOUNT for iPod 4G purchase, or FREE iPod touch 4G 8GB.
I'll tell you this, it's not Apple who lied to you, it's the misled DEALERS. I've been collecting evidences and it seems from the beginning (the time of press release) until the release of iPod 4G, Apple never stated that they intended to release iPod touch 3G in 8GB.
See this image of Apple online store back in early 2010 :
The 8GB model were only UPDATED with iOS 3 however the true NEW iPod touch at that time (Apple hadn't used the terms Generation yet) was available in larger capacity. The iPod touch 8GB wasn't RENEWED but rather RE-RELEASED with lower price as previous 8GB iPod touch were more expensive. If you still not convinced enough to believe it, well search the youtube and watch Phil Schiller's presentation in 09/2009. He shown 8GB model (he didn't say new) would only experience updated price of $199 but later on, he pushed the 8GB aside and explained the NEW larger capacity models would be granted double capacity and improved performance
Hence, I'm truthfully sorry to say that the one whom to be wronged isn't Apple but dealers themselves for false advertising. I suggest you to bring up your complain to the dealer with valid evidences because if you don't, I'm afradi you might lose your chance due to the time being.
