Classic report search

Hi everybody,
to say it first, I'm a newbie to apex because my lack of experience with it.
I've to create an application that searches for keywords inside textfields of a table using instant search(I'm using the clarifit plugin for that).
Therefore I have to use a classic report not an interactive report due to requirements from my boss.
He wants something like the live search used by google - now the problem is that if more than one keywords separated by whitespace are entered, the search looks for all of them eg.: "keyword1 keyword2" and not "keyword1" AND "keyword2".
Does anybody know how this can be done ? Do I've to split the search string using ajax or do I'have to implement a row filtering using variables (which variable name does the content of the search box have)
Anybody got a hint for me please ?

If you are going to start getting into advanced searching like that then you should have a look at Oracle Text.

Short of that, you could write your own package to parse text input and return a where clause but I really would not recommend that.

Interactive report search features in Classic Report

Hi,
We have generate a report based on a dynamic query (columns,tables and where condition everything will be dynamic at runtime). As we can use only sql queries to create Interactive report, we are populating collections with our dynamic query and using that collection to create Interactive report. But there are lot of limitation with this approach (only 50 columns we can display, number and date columns are stored in character columns of collection as we don't have control on populating collection's number columns using api apex_collection.create_collection_from_query and clob columns are truncated to first 4000 character).
If we can paint the features like search,filters,select columns of Interactive report in classic report, our problem will be solved.
Is there anyway we can get these Interactive report feature in classic report.? or any other work around is available to overcome the apex collection limitation? Any idea on this will be very helpful.

Create a region "Search'
and Create a text field page item like P1_REPORT_SEARCH and also create two buttons like
P1_GO and P1_RESET and after that
Create two process for it
<li> one is of Reset pagination process with condition type: request is contained within the expression1, and in expression1 give this: GO,P1_REPORT_SEARCH,RESET(process point- on submit after computation)
<li> second process is of type clear cache for items(ITEM,ITEM,ITEM)
Source : P1_REPORT_SEARCH
condition type: Request = Expression 1
Expression 1 = RESET

Form pagination based on search results. Classic report

hei folks,
can anyone give me idea how to implement form pagination based on report search results on other page?
and im using Classic Report.
pagination by default gives me 1...count(rowid) number of pages

Process Get Next or Previous Primary Key Value has a field Optional WHERE clause, you can repeat the 10 store high Where clause from your original report (on page 1). If report includes more then one table - use a view, because inside Optional WHERE clause you can only use one table/view.

END-OF-PAGE not displayed in the last page of the classical report.

Hi all..
The END-OF-PAGE is not displayed in the last page of the classical report.
SY-LINCT value is 30.
Lines displayed in the report per page is 24.
[3 for TOP-OF-PAGE and 3 for END-OF-PAGE]
My Internal table has 6942 records.
It comes 289 pages with 24 records in a page and 290 th page with 6 records.
The END-OF-PAGE is not coming for the 290 th page.

Mixing of interactive report and classic report fails the RESET PAGINATION process.

I have a tab page where i got 3 different reports REPORT_A (classic), REPORT_B(interactive) and REPORT_C (CLASSIC) in the same alphabetic order. I have a reset pagination page process which will always fire (without any condition) when you visit the page via tab.
The reset pagination process which exists in the before header stage is firing but not resetting the interactive report. It does affect the subsequent classic report REPORT_C as well. The REPORT_A would reset pagination fine since it exists before the interactive report. Is this a know bug in apex?
I created a test demo application with exact steps to reproduce the problem. The steps are in the demo website itself.

In my real application i would have a dropdownlist in the page based on which I would filter the data. The dropdownlist will have a corresponding after-submit branch which will handle the reset pagination & RIR absolutely fine. But when we visit the website through tab the above problem would crash the page.
I tried solutions like gReport.search('SEARCH') but that will fix only the interactive report, not the classic REPORT_C. That is just a hack anyway.
Any ideas.?

This makes very little sense to me. Please explain this in detail. Are you advocating making changes to APEX metadata by executing DML on tables in the APEX_040200 schema? Doing so will leave your APEX instance in an unsupported an possibly inoperable state.

OnMouseOver displays Tooltip from hidden column of classic report

What: The Goal:
Make easily available more information than fits on one line of the screen without using multiple fixed lines.
Background:
Classic report with 18 data items (columns) visible. Has Search box and user can choose number of rows displayed.
A couple data items can be long (20-30 characters) compared to the screen width. The right-most data item might run 100 characters.
Proposed Strategy:
1) Display the first n characters of the long item(s) on the report.
2) On onMouseOver display the entire item.
Proposed Approach:
1) For each column with long data, hold the entire value in a hidden item.
2) Display long (hidden) value in tooltip (bubble?/balloon?) upon onMouseOver of that value.
Note: This is not ToolTip/Help for a column but display of the long value for a specifc item in the row of a column.
Sought After Feature:
1) To reduce maintenance, would like to implement for multiple columns using a single common block of code.
Question:
Given other approaches you know, is this a good approach to achieve the goal? Alternative approaches?

Well it took a while and you really made me work for this. :)
For the end result hover on the Job Ln Nm column.

I added some old code I had laying around. It adds a bubble that will stay up for 5 sec or until you click away or hover on another record.
What I would do at this point is just truncate (with a substr) the length of the Long Nm to something short. Use whatever indicator you want for the hover. Like for example these glasses <img src="#IMAGE_PREFIX#Fndview1.gif"> It's really up to you.
You'll see there's an AJAX Callback PLSQL where you can retreive and format the content of the popup to whatever you want. You could make it real pretty.

Highligh current row not working for classic report in 4.1

Hello experts,
One of our customers is migrating applications from APEX 3.0 to 4.1.
All their applications use classic reports because interactive reports didn't exist in 3.0.
The end users of the applications like the row color changing when they hover there mouse over the rows (highlight current row) and they insist on keeping this "functionality" in the applications.
For some reason, this "functionality" doesn't work anymore after the migration to APEX 4.1.
I thought it was something theme related so I created a new application with a classic report, tried some APEX built-in themes, and with none of them, I manage to get the highlight current row working.
For interactive reports it is not an issue.
Is this an undocumented no-longer-available feature of APEX 4.x or has there changed something which caused this functionality to stop working??

I created a service request for this issue, and the support analyst that helped me confirmed that this is a bug:

Bug 13584762 - ROW HIGHLIGHTING NO MORE WORKS IN CLASSIC REPORT IN APEX 4.1
While working on the problem , I have found the following solution in order to make the Row HighLightng work in APEX 4.1
In the apex_4_1.min.js (file located in images\javascript ) , Search for :
function setRowHighlight(a){apex.jQuery("#report_"+a+" .highlight-row").live("hover",function(b)
and replace "hover" by "mouseover mouseout" :
After the modification :
function setRowHighlight(a){apex.jQuery("#report_"+a+" .highlight-row").live("mouseover mouseout",function(b)
A refresh in the browser may be necessary in order to "reload" the file apex_4_1.min.js"
I implemented the suggested workaround and this solved the problem!

I have developed classical report.in my internal table, i have 24 records.
my question is, in ALV report,we can display colors as zebra color autometically by function module.
but in classical report.how can we set zebra color for my 24 records.

Creating classic reports

Hi,
I found that when creating classic report through the create application wizard (add new report page and choose report type as classic), the report is slightly different from the ones created through the normal create page wizard.
The difference is report created with the creating application wizard contain filters (which searches and highlight all columns containing the keywords), a select list which allows user to select how many rows should be displayed and pagination.
But once you create the application and wanted to add a new report, it doesn't seem to have the above functions.
I was just wondering if it is possible to create a report page with all these functionalities through a normal report wizard? or is it something that we have to do manually once the application is created?

While creating the report, all you have to do is enable report search. After entering sql query, next screen is Report Attribute. Select "Yes" in Enable Search and you can see the rows selector and search text box before your report region. Also if you want to add similar functionality to an existing report , all you have to do is add a static select list with values like 10,20,50,100.. and edit the report attribute-->Layout and Pagination-->Number of Rows (Item) --> enter the above select list name. .
If you want to include the search functionality , you can create a text box and modify report query something like
instr(upper(report_column),upper(nvl(:Page_item,report_column))) > 0
The best way to approach this is to create a dummy page and Add a report region with simple query and enable the report search and see the items and report attributes generated by wizard. If you closely look at them you can add similar functionality to any existing report without any issue.

Regarding - Multiple PDF Attachment and Classical report o/p to PDF

Hello all,
1.I am having a requirement wherein i have to convert a classical report o/p to PDF and send as an attachment.
2.Again another challenge what i am facing here is, I have already triggered a PDF attachment mail in my code,
Now they want me to convert a classical report o/p to PDF and send as an attachment along with the previous PDF in
the same mail.

How to set the field non-editable in the classical report..

Hi experts,
For the component 'ICCMP_EMP_SRCH' there is a view 'BUPAEMPSEARCH' , which has 2 context nodes 'CUSTOMER' AND 'SEARCHEMPLOYEE' , i need to add the field 'NICKNAME' which is part of the 'CUSTOMER' context node on the search screen. Currrently all the fields on the screen screen are from the 'SEARCHEMPLOYEE' context node. when i did the configuration , the 'NICKNAME' field is greyed out . I have already generated the Getter ,Setter , GET_I, GET_M methods for the 'NICKNAME' field and the context node and controller class and context class are all active .
on debugging the GET_I method, i see that rv_disabled = 'TRUE' and the current = collection_wrapper->get_current( ) is returning empty value .
for this rv_disabled to be set false , the code below is not triggered since there is no value in current.

'NICKNAME' ) = abap_false. "#EC NOTEXT
rv_disabled = 'FALSE'.
ENDIF.
when i check for other search fields of context node 'SEARCHEMPLOYEE' , all the fields are set to rv_disabled = 'FALSE'.
can anyone suggest how to approch this. iam i missing any binding between context nodes or any activations ?
The field properties are set as Input field and the display checkbox is not checked.

Interactive report functionality for classic report

I have to implement IR report search functionality (*when ever we click on column header it will display all the values in that particular column , once we click on particular value , the report will filter based on that particular value * ) in classic report ... is that possible
please help me

Hi Experts,
                 I have made one classical report whose output is coming upto 4-5 pages depending on user input. But when we will take the printout of this, user want that print to be on only single A4 size paper...Please guide me..

I want to create a classic report which have some editable columns (text fields etc.). So after editing, with the help of a save button, user could save new values to db.
I made a search in web but can't find anything like this.

This is covered in the APEX documentation under the subject of tabular forms.They are a bad idea, especially for new APEX users.
