Interactive report search features in Classic Report

Hi,
We have generate a report based on a dynamic query (columns, tables and where condition everything will be dynamic at runtime). As we can use only sql queries to create Interactive report, we are populating collections with our dynamic query and using that collection to create Interactive report. But there are lot of limitation with this approach (only 50 columns we can display, number and date columns are stored in character columns of collection as we don't have control on populating collection's number columns using api apex_collection.create_collection_from_query and clob columns are truncated to first 4000 character).
If we can paint the features like search, filters, select columns of Interactive report in classic report, our problem will be solved.
Is there anyway we can get these Interactive report feature in classic report.? or any other work around is available to overcome the apex collection limitation? Any idea on this will be very helpful.
Thanks in advance.

Hi User,
ya, Jitu is right.
Create a region "Search'
and Create a text field page item like P1_REPORT_SEARCH and also create two buttons like
P1_GO and P1_RESET and after that
Create two process for it
<li> one is of Reset pagination process with condition type: request is contained within the expression1, and in expression1 give this: GO,P1_REPORT_SEARCH,RESET(process point- on submit after computation)
<li> second process is of type clear cache for items(ITEM,ITEM,ITEM)
Source : P1_REPORT_SEARCH
condition type: Request = Expression 1
Expression 1 = RESET
May be this will help you out.

Mini

    hei folks,
can anyone give me idea how to implement form pagination based on report search results on other page?
    and im using Classic Report.
pagination by default gives me 1...count(rowid) number of pages
    best regards,

    Done.
Process Get Next or Previous Primary Key Value has a field Optional WHERE clause, you can repeat the 10 store high Where clause from your original report (on page 1). If report includes more then one table - use a view, because inside Optional WHERE clause you can only use one table/view.

  • Move "Report Total" text in Classic Report

I am using APEX 4.0.2 and I would like to move the position of the report total text (Display This Text When Printing Report Sums) in the Break Formatting section of the Report Attributes tab.  By default, it appears in the first column.  It there a way to move the text display to column 2 or 3?
Thanks you for your time and attention.

    Okay,
Well this is actually an CSS thing, but in this case, since the break formatting section is just another table row, you might as well use some jQuery to prepend an extra table cell to the break row.
You can use the following code in a "page load" dynamic action:
      $('.apex_report_break').parent().prepend('<td></td>')
This will add one empty table cell to the break formatting section row. If you want more than one table cell indent, you can use the colspan attribute to make the prepended column wider:
         $('.apex_report_break').parent().prepend('<td colspan="2"></td>')
The advantage of using jQuery in this case is that your text will always be indented the correct distance, regardless of the content and width of the underlying table columns.

  • [Forum FAQ]How do I add a search feature in the parameter with long drop down list?

    Introduction
There is a scenario that thousands of values in the drop-down of a parameter. Scrolling through the large drop down list is slow and cumbersome. Is there a way that we add a search feature in the report, so that it can filter down the values in the drop
down list to a smaller list of values?
    Solution
To achieve this requirement, we can add a parameter with multiple keywords ahead, then all of available values which are begin with the keyword will display in the parameter list. In this scenario, we can create cascading parameters. One is a keyword parameter,
and the other parameter is based on the keyword to display the available values.
In order to enable the user to type multiple keywords, we can use the query below to create a split function which takes the list and the de-limiter as input parameters and splits all the values in the database:
    CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[SplitParameterValues] (@InputString NVARCHAR(max), @SplitChar VARCHAR(5))
     RETURNS @ValuesList TABLE
     param NVARCHAR(255)
     AS
     BEGIN
     DECLARE @ListValue NVARCHAR(max)
     SET @InputString = @InputString + @SplitChar
     WHILE @InputString!= @SplitChar
     BEGIN
     SELECT @ListValue = SUBSTRING(@InputString , 1, (CHARINDEX(@SplitChar, @InputString)-1))
     IF (CHARINDEX(@SplitChar, @InputString) + len(@SplitChar))>(LEN(@InputString))
     BEGIN
     SET @InputString=@SplitChar
     END
     ELSE
     BEGIN
     SELECT @InputString = SUBSTRING(@InputString, (CHARINDEX(@SplitChar, @InputString) + len(@SplitChar)) , LEN(@InputString)-(CHARINDEX(@SplitChar, @InputString)+ len(@SplitChar)-1) )
     END
    INSERT INTO @ValuesList VALUES( @ListValue)
     END
     RETURN
     END
Use the query below create a stored procedure to return all available values for Account parameter:
    create PROCEDURE sp (@keyword nvarchar(50))
    AS
    SELECT     AccountDescription
    FROM         DimAccount d
inner join (SELECT [param] FROM SplitParameterValues (@keyword,',')) s on d.AccountDescription like (s.[param]+'%')
In Report Designer, select Stored Procedure as the Query type for DataSet1, then select or type sp in the drop-down list as below:
By default, there is a parameter named keyword in the Parameters pane.
Add a multi-value parameter named Account in the report, then select “Get values from a query” option for Available Values as below:

Hmmm. This didn't work. I even re-booted, and Firefox still doesn't show the search engine.
It was actually an update to an earlier engine, and I foolishly removed the old version rather than just updating it.
Is there anything elsewhere (eg. the registry) that might be preventing this?

  • Mixing of interactive report and classic report fails the RESET PAGINATION process.

I have a tab page where i got 3 different reports REPORT_A (classic), REPORT_B(interactive)  and REPORT_C (CLASSIC) in the same alphabetic order. I have a reset pagination page process which will always fire (without any condition) when you visit the page via tab.
The reset pagination process which exists in the before header stage is firing but not resetting the interactive report. It does affect the subsequent classic report REPORT_C as well. The REPORT_A would reset pagination fine since it exists before the interactive report. Is this a know bug in apex?
I created a test demo application with exact steps to reproduce the problem. The steps are in the demo website itself.
    http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=56638
    U: testuser
    P: password
    Apex Version: 4.2.4.00.08
In my real application i would have a dropdownlist in the page based on which I would filter the data. The dropdownlist will have a corresponding after-submit branch which will handle the reset pagination & RIR absolutely fine. But when we visit the website through tab the above problem would crash the page.
I tried solutions like gReport.search('SEARCH') but that will fix only the interactive report, not the classic REPORT_C. That is just a hack anyway.
    Any ideas.?

This makes very little sense to me. Please explain this in detail. Are you advocating making changes to APEX metadata by executing DML on tables in the APEX_040200 schema? Doing so will leave your APEX instance in an unsupported an possibly inoperable state.

  • Classic report search

    Hi everybody,
to say it first, I'm a newbie to apex because my lack of experience with it.
I've to create an application that searches for keywords inside textfields of a table using instant search(I'm using the clarifit plugin for that).
Therefore I have to use a classic report not an interactive report due to requirements from my boss.
He wants something like the live search used by google - now the problem is that if more than one keywords separated by whitespace are entered, the search looks for all of them eg.: "keyword1 keyword2" and not "keyword1" AND "keyword2".
Does anybody know how this can be done ? Do I've to split the search string using ajax or do I'have to implement a row filtering using variables (which variable name does the content of the search box have)
Anybody got a hint for me please ?
    Thanks in advance
    Kr
    Michael.

    Michael,
If you are going to start getting into advanced searching like that then you should have a look at Oracle Text.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/text.111/b28303/overview.htm
Short of that, you could write your own package to parse text input and return a where clause but I really would not recommend that.

  • "Invalid number" error using Interactive Report search  on collection

hi -- I have several interactive reports based on collections. In the IR reqion query definition,
I cast the collection values as needed (number, date, etc). Everything's been working great.
In both development and production, I can use the search feature of interactive reports
and it finds rows containing the text I type in (as well as everything else working fine...)
I just imported a new version of an application into our production database. Now, when I use the
interactive report search, I always get "invalid number". This even happens on interactive reports
that still work in the previous version of the production application... and these IRS
have not been modified at all.
If I create a filter and search for "elevation" in a string column, the filter works. If I create a filter
searching for "elevation" in a number column, I get "invalid number". (In the development
environment, I can do the latter -- it just doesn't find any rows.)
Clearly it's choking on the types of the columns in the IR... but why now and not before, and why
in the production database but not the development DB? Both are running 4.0.1.00.03.
This is a pretty major loss of functionality... and it comes at a really bad time... Help?!
    Thanks,
    Carol

of you gurus are willing to give them out.
It's not tons of stuff, so here it is.
    1) The application process that creates the collection. This process that runs whenever an IR

    IF (apex_collection.collection_exists (

        apex_collection.delete_collection(p_collection_name=>'IR_COLLECTION');

  • Interactive VS. Classic Report

    Hi all,
I have created both interactive report and classic report on the same table just for testing.

You can see that the interactive report has link to single row view. How can I make my classic report to have this kind of link also?

You can see that the interactive report has edit link. How can I make my classic report to have edit link also? It's not necessarily an edit link. In that case it's simply a single row view.
Take a look at creating a page/region using the Form > Form on a Table with Report wizard, selecting "Classic" for the Implementation option.
To add links to existing standard reports, use Column Links.

If someone else does the work on apex.oracle.com, how are you going to know how to reproduce it in your own environment?

  • (Classic) Report losing pagination on partial page refresh - APEX feature request

I have a page with both an Interactive Report and some classic Report regions.
Based on user updates, there are many occasions where I need to do a partial page refresh.
    Thanks to plugin http://www.apex-plugin.com/oracle-apex-plugins/dynamic-action-plugin/refresh-interactive-report-1.0_361.html
I'm able to refresh my IR, but not my classic report (unless I do a submit of the whole page) without losing pagination.
Request: Will a Dynamic action 'Refresh without losing pagination' be part of future apex versions?
Now, in apex 4.2, is there another work around available for classic reports?
(I use 'submit page' now as action, but it's at least a second slower as a partial refresh, and because I need it on every user update, this second becomes a big addition to user frustration).
    Thanks, JP

  • POP LOV in classic Report not in a interactive Report

My oracle version Oracle Express Aplication 11g
    Dear Forum
We need a CLASSIC report where i can define what information my report will show.
    For example:
    My Report contain
    ID NAME DATE
In Drag and Drop layout I create two data pickers cause I need to choose information between Date_picker_1 and Datepicker_2. both of them correspond to DATE
In my region source in classic report I write something like this:
Select id, name where DATE between :Date_picker_1 and :Datepicker_2 then Ichoose the months but nothing happen.
I know that in the report interactive you can do that, but my boss doesnt' like interactive report (I dont know why) so my problem is in the Classic report.

Also the subject of this thread&mdash;POP LOV in classic Report not in a interactive Report&mdash;doesn't appear to be relevant the question asked. There's no mention of a Pop-up LOV here?
My oracle version Oracle Express Aplication 11gAlways state full version numbers, and include
    <li>Full APEX version
    <li>Full DB/version/edition/host OS
<li>Web server architecture (EPG, OHS or APEX listener/host OS)
    <li>Browser(s) and version(s) used
    as well.
Select id, name where DATE between :Date_picker_1 and :Datepicker_2then Ichoose the months but nothing happen.Always post code wrapped in <tt>\...\</tt> tags. And always post the actual code or a realistic reduced test case: that query is not valid SQL.
I know that in the report interactive you can do that, but my boss doesnt' like interactive report (I dont know why) so my problem is in the Classic report.Nothing to do with the report type. It's because all APEX items are actually VARCHAR2s. For proper comparison semantics with NUMBERs or DATEs in SQL explicit conversion is required:
    select id, name
    from foo
where bar between to_date(:date_picker_1, 'DD/MM/YYYY') and to_date(:date_picker_1, 'DD/MM/YYYY')Where 'DD/MM/YYYY' is the format mask used in the datepicker items.

  • How to convert "classic" report to "interactive" report?

    Hi,
How do I convert classic report to interactive and vice versa?
    Thanks

    Hi,
When you go to the interactive report, in the right you have "Migrate to Interactive Report". That will make your standard report interactive, but will not erase the old report. It will be only disabled. But I don't know if it is possible to migrate from interactive to standard report.

  • Placing date field inline to an Interactive Report search bar

For a button I can choose "Right of Interactive Report Search Bar" option to place it inline with the IR Search bar.
However I need to place a text fileld or select list or Date Field intead.
Any ideas? If a template needs to be changed could you please indicate which template? I affrid the date field does not allow an option to change its templates.....
I hope somebody would be able to help.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
It will take some trial and error to get the positioning correct, but you can do the following:
1 - Create an HTML region that is positioned at the bottom of your page (that is, make sure that it is underneath all other regions). Set the region's Title to &amp;nbsp; and the Template to "No Template"
2 - On your datepicker, in the Label/HTML Table Cell Attributes setting, add in:
nowrap="nowrap" id="P1_DATE_LABEL"(replacing P1_DATE with the actual name of the item).
3 - In the region's Region Source, add in:
    <style type="text/css">
    #P1_DATE_LABEL {position:absolute; top:40px; left:450px;}
    #P1_DATE_fieldset {position:absolute; top:40px; left:500px;}
</style>P1_DATE_LABEL is the ID you set above and P1_DATE_fieldset is the ID of the fieldset created for the datepicker by Apex. Change the top and left settings for both as required for your page.
This outputs the datepicker in your region and then moves it to the top/left position you specify.
