Classpath for a simple class

I'm in directory A, which contains resources I need for imports, compiling
a/b/rpt.java
I do javac b/rpt.java
How do I execute it?
cd b
java rpt
gives a NoClassDefFoundException
Doing
javac -d . b/*.java
java rpt
gives the same exception
The class has no package statement.
How do I execute this class? I know that trying to cross directory boundaries is a problem, but what's the solution?

Assumming you got a clean compile from dir 'a', using:
javac b/rpt.java
... Then from 'a', again:
java b.rpt
If this does not work, you will need a classpath.

  • How to add to classpath for OAF extensions in 11.5.10

    In 11.5.10, how do I add jar files to the default EBS classpath for new custom classes that are used in OAF extensions? Is there a directory which I can drop them in where they will get automatically appended to the classpath? Or is there a configuration file which needs to get updated with the new jar/library dependencies?
    I tried dropping them in $JAVA_TOP, but that only seems to pick up new classes, not complete jar files. However, I need to add several jar files as well (such as log4j). Ideally I would like to be able to do this without manually changing any of the config files.
    Thanks,
    Ed

    Keeping your concern in mind, the standard way of putting customization in OAF which is patch safe is to
    1. create a custom top like xxx_top
    2. prefix the standard page package which you are extending with xxx to separate it from standard seeded ones.
    3. Keep all your custom files on the xxx_top which is registered with the system.

  • Difference between narrow() method usage and simple class cast for EJB

    Hi,
    I have a very simple question:
    what is the difference between PortableRemoteObject.narrow(fromObj,
    toClass) method usage and simple class cast for EJB.
    For example,
    1)
    EJBObject ejbObj;
    // somewhere in the code the home.create() called for bean ...
    ABean a = (ABean)PortableRemoteObject.narrow(ejbObj,ABean.class);
    OR
    2)
    EJBObject bean;
    // somewhere in the code the home.create() called for bean ...
    ABean a = (ABean)ejbObj;
    Which one is better?
    P.S. I'm working with WL 6.1 sp2
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,

    Which one is better?(1) is mandated by the spec. It is required because CORBA systems may
    not have sufficient type information available to do a simple case.
    P.S. I'm working with WL 6.1 sp2 You should always use PRO.narrow()

  • How to set a classpath for referring classes

    I am using windows vista.....I had assigned classpath for Variable name and given address of class in variable type ..even then compiler does not recognize class path..........

    Thanks but it is not what I am really asking or I may didnt understand..
    The program is working ok through JCreator.. My problem is when I create an Installation file and then run it..
    the program is being created just fine but when it has to load the jdic then it blocks...
    This is something that must be done through variables right?
    If you ever used Install4J there are 2 columns where you declare variables..
    The first column is for Variable name and the second one is Variable Value..
    Sorry for buthering you with all this but this is the first time that I am dealing with jar files!
    Thanks again !

  • How do I set the classpath for IWS?

    I'm using iPlanet Web Server 6.0 and I have a JSP that imports a class, ClassX. I place classX in the ClasseCache directory, which works. But when ClassX imports javax.jms.* (found in a jar file) there is a run time error because j2ee.jar doesn't seem to be found by IWS. How do I get IWS to look in j2ee.jar for these jms classes?

    Additional classpath values for running "jsp" as need
    to be set in contexts.properties file or jvm12.conf(/<server root/https-test/config/)file.

    iam using weblogic server 10 and bea jrockit 1.5.0.12.
    i have created a startup class in the admin console for a web project and i have deployed the war file using the console in a user defined domains, user project directory.
    when i start the server, iam getting class not found exception for the startup class.
    But, the startup class is available in the web archive (war). how should we add the classes and jars in the war to the classpath in setDomainEnv.sh or is there any other setting available in the console to enable this.

    Hello Julius,
    yes sure, we can move this post to the NW admin forum. I have already posted similar thread on sun forums. I was hoping that someone from SAP SDN already tackled this problem and if not someone specialized in J2EE Engine could troubleshoot me from the class problem I'm getting. I don't know if it's specific from the agent or if this ClassNotFound is a general SAP J2EE Engine error relating to a library not correclty defined.
    Kind regards,

  • "1046: Type was not found" for a custom class calling a custom class

    This should be easy... but I've spent two days on nothing but this error.... I am absolutely at my wit's end.
    Basically, I've got a "character" container linked to a MovieClip in the library that is supposed to act as a container for various body parts; head, shirt, pants, etc. For simplicity, I've just got Character class and Head class, both in a "char" package, both classes are named the same as their respective files (Character.as and Head.as, both in an actual file called "char"). Character class is supposed to create an instance of Head, but I always get this 1046 error. The problem is that I've got other body parts with nearly identical classes that ARENT throwing a 1046 error and are working just fine. I went and made a new project to see if I was still having the problem with just character calling 1 simple body part. I do.
    In the symbol properties, it's Exported for Actionscript & Export in Frame 1... the class is "char.Head" and "char.Character" respectively. I have tried everything I can find or think of, I've done dozens of Google searches and sifted through dozens of forums. I can't find anything and I've been working on this problem for 24 straight working hours now. I'm completely exasperated......
    package char {
    import flash.display.MovieClip;
    import flash.display.Stage;
    import flash.display.Sprite;
    import flash.events.Event;
    import flash.geom.ColorTransform;
    import fl.motion.Color;
    import char.Head;
    public class Character extends MovieClip {
    // 1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: Head
    private var _head:Head;
    // reference to get the stage later
    private var stageRef:Stage;
    public function Character(stageRef:Stage=null) {
    trace("NEW CHARACTER");
    //1180 Call to a possibly undefined method Head;
    _head=new Head();
    And here's the contents of Head.as
    package char {
    import flash.display.MovieClip;
    import flash.events.Event;
    import flash.display.Stage;
    import flash.geom.ColorTransform;
    public class Head extends MovieClip {
    private var skin_type:uint;
    public function Head() {
    trace ("NEW HEAD");
    Now if I declare the head variable and create a new instance of it in my document class, no problem whatsoever. If I do it in my Character class, it just doesn't stop giving me this error!!! Somebody please help me.
    1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: Head
    1180 Call to a possibly undefined method Head;

    There is a blank movieclip named Character in the library, yup.
    Also in my main handler for my document class calls "mainCharacter = new Character(); "
    Here's a chunk of the code from the document class. For the record, it calls "head" as just a test and that works fine. Just doesn't work in "Character"
    import char.Character;
    import char.Head;
    public class MainHandler extends MovieClip {
    private static var _instance:MainHandler;
    public static function get instance():MainHandler { return _instance; }
    public var mainCharacter:Character;
    public var head_:Head;
    public function MainHandler() {
    _instance = this;
    mainCharacter = new Character();
    head_=new Head();

  • Help on dynamically loading of simple classes - ClassLoader

    Hello,
    does somebody know how to load simple classes with java.lang.ClassLoader in a stateless session bean running on SneakPreview 6.40?
    i found many solutions for j2ee servers on the net but no one works. i always get a ClassNotFoundException but i can read the class file to a byte array.
    this is one way i tried to solve the problem:
    ClassLoader loader = Thread.currentThread().getContextClassLoader();
    Class aClass = Class.forName(strClassName, true, loader);
    hopefully someone can help me,
    thanks
    erich

    Hi Erich,
    for such a kind of problems (not knowing for sure where the classloader is looking for the class) I am used to use http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/source/filemon.shtml
    Just write <i>Class.forName("ABC123", true, loader);</i> and then you can check the places where the classloader is looking for this ABC123 class...
    Hope it helps

  • "Best practice" for accessing a class from a custom component?

    My app utilizes a simple class to hold global properties such as username, session data, and similar data. The class is initialized at app startup via code similar to: appGlobals:myGlobals=new myGlobals.
    Many of the custom MXML components and AS classes need to access that data. I have been able to work with it using Application.application.appGlobals.propertyname.
    Is this method the best way to communicate from components and classes to a class initiated at the application level, or should I learn something new before I build a lot of code on this method?
    Thanks.
    Paul

    The WizardModel class is interesting, it is a "singleton" where it is designed to only have one instance, and the class actually has a static variable of its own class. Because that variable is static, an instance is created the first time the class is accessed.
    As to where the WizardModel is "first accessed" and thus its own variable of type WizardModel instantiated, is hard to say, as you really need to understand the application and component startup lifecycle indepth. I have a certain depth of knowledge of that but not enough depth to say definitively when WizardModel  is first accessed, but here are some possibilities:
    WizardModel.wizardTitle = WizardModel.wizardTitleBase;      In the WizardController "wizardTitleChangeHandler" event handler
    creationComplete="WizardModel.app = this;"      In the Wizard.mxml main app creationComplete handler
    <mx:Panel title="{WizardModel.wizardTitle}" width="100%" height="100%">    Opening tag of Panel in Wizard.mxml
    I know its confusing, but just try to absorb what you can for now, and over time it will become gradually more clear.

  • Problem adding classpath for managed server in 10.3

    Hi All,
    I have a managed server that uses startup classes. According to the documentation, you have to put the absolute path to the startup classes in the server's classpath. I go to the server's configuration and the Server Startup tab to enter the classpath information. When I do this and try to start the managed server I receive the following message:
    <Jun 30, 2009 8:24:47 AM PDT> <Error> <NodeManager> <BEA-300048> <Unable to star
    t the server IntegrationServer : Exception while starting server 'IntegrationSer
    ver': java.io.IOException: Server failed to start up. See server output log for
    more details.>
    The server output log shows:
    <Jun 30, 2009 8:24:47 AM> <Debug> <NodeManager> <Waiting for the process to die: 4288>
    <Jun 30, 2009 8:24:47 AM> <Info> <NodeManager> <Server failed during startup so will not be restarted>
    <Jun 30, 2009 8:24:47 AM> <Debug> <NodeManager> <runMonitor returned, setting finished=true and notifying waiters>
    If I don't put the classpath in, the managed server will start up, but will throw classnotfound exceptions for the start classes.
    I am not sure what I am doing wrong.
    We are in a time crunch so any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Greg

    I've seen something like this before on a windows machine where the PATH environment variable had some additional values which contained spaces.
    If it's a windows machine, could you check your path and see if there is more there then the default:
    %SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem
    In my case there where values like c:\program files\.... and WL couldnt handle that apparently.
    when I removed them from my windows path it was fixed.
    the logging you showed, is it the MS logging ?
    Could you post the nodemanager logging as well, maybe it has more detailed information.

It will then ask for how many steps it want the frog to jump. Then it will output the new position of it. But for some reason, it doesn't work. It always output 0 for some reason.
    import java.io.*;
    import java.util.*;
    - frog program class.
    frog will start on a position.
    user will be prompt to ask how many jump to forward.
    public class beta
         public static void main(String args[]) throws IOException
              class Frog
              int newPos;
                   int Position () //return postion of the frog
                   return newPos;
                   void PositionStart (int newPos) //initial postion of the frog
                   newPos = newPos;
                   int Jump(int stepsForward, int newPos)
                        newPos+=stepsForward;
                        return newPos;
                   int PrevPos(int newPos)
                   return newPos-1;
                   int NextPos(int newPos)
                   return newPos+1;
                   boolean isMagicSquare(int newPos)
                        if(newPos == 5) return true;
                        else return false;
         BufferedReader key = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(System.in));
         Frog joe = new Frog();
         int pos = 0, stepsFoward = 0;
                   //input 1-9
                   do
                        System.out.println("Enter a position for the frog: ");
                        pos = Integer.parseInt(key.readLine()); //reads in an integer
                   }while(pos < 1 || pos > 9);
                   joe.PositionStart(pos); //initialize the position for the frog
                   System.out.println("Pos: " + joe.Position()); //position
                   System.out.println("How many steps to jump: ");
                   stepsFoward = Integer.parseInt(key.readLine());
                   joe.Jump(stepsFoward,joe.Position());
                   System.out.println("New Position: " + joe.Position());
    }

    You have method argument parameters with the same name as a member variable; as in:
    void PositionStart (int newPos) {
            newPos = newPos;
    }You need to identify to the compiler which variable is which, class member variables in cases like this should be qualified with the this keyword; as in:
    void PositionStart (int newPos) {
            this.newPos = newPos;
    }Dave

  • How do I resolve a ClassNotFoundException for a custom class

    I am new to Java and am having frustrating problems. I am creating a Desktop application and want the application to have the capability to read from the file system.
    I created a custom class to hold mapping data and stored the object to file using ObjectOutputStream writeObject. I read it back into the program to make sure it worked. All was well and fine. I am trying to mimic the C capability to read and write entire data structures at a time. I ensured that the class (and all classes that it relied on) were serializable.
    Now back to the Desktop app. I am trying to read the object into that same custom class in my program. The program compiles fine. I have set my classpath up in Netbeans 6.1 to look to the other apps classes, have imported the classes. Again no problem.
    I also set my classpath (in the run section) to look at the jar file in the other section that contains my class. I have tried setting this runtime classpath many ways. I will get a ClassNotFoundException: MyClass at URLClassLoader ... on and on.
    I really am trying to do something simple here by just reading in a structure (class in Java). I was told previously that it is a classpath problem. How can I resolve this? I don't think that I should have to write a binary or text file that contains all of the various parameters (easier to do in one hop using
    MyClass c = (MyClass) in.readObject();
    Help is appreciated. Jay A

Why aren't a text representation and a toString call good enough? Sounds like you just want a simple persistence mechanism without a relational database. Writing a Map of <key, value> pairs using a PrintWriter would seem enough to me and parsing each pair on a line to read it back in would seem sufficient to me.
    Now back to the Desktop app. I am trying to read the object into that same custom class in my program. Why? What are you trying to do? Why can't your Desktop app instantiate an instance of the custom class and be done with it?

    I also set my classpath (in the run section) to look at the jar file in the other section that contains my class. Why do you have to package the other class in a JAR? Why can't that package just be part of your current project? Or are they separate projects, and you want to treat the first one like a 3rd party JAR?
    I have tried setting this runtime classpath many ways. I will get a ClassNotFoundException: MyClass at URLClassLoader ... on and on.You aren't setting CLASSPATH correctly. You don't need a URL class loader. You're making this far too complicated. It's a much easier thing than this.

    CNF exception means one thing: a .class that you need to load isn't in the CLASSPATH. That advice you got is correct. You need to figure out how to make it so.
    Your description is confusing.
    I think your mistake is assuming that serialization is the best way to persist that mapping data. Without knowing more about the details, I think adding two method to the "custom class" that encapsulated the mapping data should be sufficient. Create a static read() method that takes a java.io.Reader and returns a populated instance of your class. Create a static write() method that accepts a java.io.Writer and an instance of your class and returns void. Have them read and write plain text. Then either make that source code part of your NetBeans project or package it into a JAR and put that in your CLASSPATH. Either way, if you don't do it properly you'll get that CNF exception. Keep plugging until you get it right.
