Clean Install of Bootcamp with Lyon, Windows stuck on "Expanding windows files"???

I just purchased a new MacBook Pro and before converting any of my files over from my older MacBook I wanted to download Lyon and install my Bootcamp partition.
I have Installed Lyon, Burned my Windows support software disc and started the Bootcamp Partitioning.  When it booted into the Windows side and started the Installation...I knew it would take a while, but it has been sitting on the "Expanding windows files (0%) ..." part of the install for over an hour.  I have Installed Bootcamp several times on a Mac and I have never had this happen.
Any suggestions on what I should do here?
Jessica

Yes, it should.  I was successful with my Win7 Boot Camp partition.  But as always, be sure to backup the Windows partition, with a cloning utility if posssible, just in case...

So, I'm about to loose all of my iTunes library, work documents (I'm a lawyer!!), my kid's photos.... How can I restore my files?? Help!!

Since you seem to be using a new disk for Lion, Time Machine will consider previous backups to be for a "different" computer.  Try doing a control-click or click-and-hold on the Time Machine icon in the Dock, then choose "Browse Other Time Machine Disks".  This should allow Time Machine to see the previous backups.
In the worst case you should be able to open those Time Machine backups and copy your documents from there to your home folder.

About 3 years old...pretty dated now I guess.  Am thinking I may just need to have it upgraded by a Mac tech.
For what the Apple Store's charge you can buy almost buy a new computer.
Just for giggles I brought my old laptop in for a drive upgrade and asked, they wanted $600 for a drive that only cost $120 at the time and it was a slow 5,400 RPM drive. The new Mac's of a similar make were going for $1000.
I did the drive replacement myself, got a faster drive of better quality for $300 instead.
Then another time I asked for a RAM upgrade from 4GB to 8GB, they wanted to charge $400 + $35 for the labor.
The same RAM is on Crucial.com for $90 and all I need is a 00 micro phillips screwdriver.
So you see what's going on here.
I think what you should do, if your out of warranty/AppleCare, is to call up the local PC tech guy who also does Mac's and have them fix you right up.
They can offer more personalized care which you need. Clone your old drive to the new and everything.
With Apple they are overworked at the Genius Bar and just place roadblocks so you buy a new machine instead.
For instance, all new iMac's now have proprietary drive software installed on the hard drives for heat monitoring. So now the only choice a user has is to bring their iMac into a Apple Store for a very expensive drive upgrade, which a person then decides the money is better spent buying a new machine.

  • Windows 7 Clean Install on T500 with Vista

So my thinkpad t500 was infected (the entire recover area was also infected). It came with Vista and I just got the recovery media CDs for Vista. But I don't want to install Vista. I have a legitimate copy of Windows 7 that I purchased and completely formatted the entire laptop (all the partitions including the recovery media partitions which were infected).  IBM does not sell Win 7 recovery media (if your laptop came with vista installed) unfortunately.
Now I have win 7 working but I have no internet connection.
I tried to install Thinkvantage 5.02 so that thinkvantage can automatically download the drivers (but the internet connection is not working so that is not going anywhere).
I had downloaded a couple of drivers from lenovo's website. I installed one of them called 7vr722ww.exe. It did not work (no internet connection). When I go to device manager the network adapters say they are upto date.
Any help with downloading and fixing the OS would be great. A step by step approach would be better. I saw some tutorials online but they are not very useful but I could have missed something here.
    I tried this tutorial : http://forum.notebookreview.com/lenovo/642274-patchysans-guide-clean-installing-windows-7-thinkpad.h...
and could not go beyond step 8 (updating drivers does not work). I also don't have anything beyond the recovery discs for vista (not windows 7). I looked for any executables in the two recovery cds for vista but found none.
Thanks for any help that anyone may be able to offer.

Ok I am using 32 bit system (or I think I was but I accidentally installed using the 64 bit dvd! I am going to do another clean install to fix this tomorrow)
This time around (on my second/third attempt at clean re install) I kept the wifi radio signal on and win 7 installation asked me for a password and I entered it at it worked! (had some issues because I was trying to simultaneously connect via ethernet but once I unplugged the ethernet cable I am now online using my clean installed machine).
I am now downloading thinkvantage system update and it is downloading a lot of recommended and other drivers.
In my third time around clean install I deleted the 2 partitions that my thinkpad came with and combined all into one partition and formatted it (so as to avoid the virus from re emerging , unless the virus in the bios in which case I don't know what I can do).
Win 7 created its own 100 MB partition and lets hope that thinkvantage does the right thing and creates the recovery media and cds which I may then use to create my own recovery CDs for this computer.
I see that system update has ended the downloads and installs but I dont see any system recovery options. How do I get the recovery and rescue software on this ?
There is something strange that win 7 (and vista on t500 ) does: the computer freezes upon startup and I have to ctrl+alt+del and then click on task manager to unfreeze it. Is this happening with other people?
I must say that buying lenovo's thinkpad is like the most awful experience ever. I have a 2004 thinkpad from IBM and it still works just fine (with xp) and works better than my brand new 2009 T500! ... the T500 by lenovo is just awful. Months after buying it the right button of the mouse on the laptop stopped working. I use an external mouse now because I did not have the time to send and mail the entire laptop (I had to make do and now the warranty has expired and they wont even renew it!). When I try to type on the keyboard I accidentally triger the laptop's half functioning mouse ! it is just an awful experience altogether with the shoddy workmanship and garish clunkiness of design.

  • How to do a clean install (10.9) with no DVD

OK, my turn to ASK a question!
In the old days i'd start from DVD, format away, and do a nice, clean install. Never a problem.
Now its mysterious. Ho do i do that when i need to use the app store to download the Mavericks installer and run it from an operating computer.......
yea, i have full bootable backups on a 1394 drive
    Grant

    Missed that 10.6.8 bit.
Both of the early-2011 MacBook Pro 13 inch came with 4GB ram standard. This is fine for 10.6.8. Depending on how you use your MBP, you may prefer that 4GB was 8GB when using Mavericks. On my mid-2011 Mac mini, Mavericks is using 2GB with a terminal window open.
If you haven't already, you should verify that the apps you use (and kernel extensions if any) on 10.6.8, have newer versions compatible with Mavericks. Snow Leopard was the last OS X release to support PowerPC applications with Rosetta technology.
What you do is download the Mavericks installer from the App Store. Decline to continue if it prompts you. Copy it to another disk for safe-keeping. If you are satisfied that your system is backed up, then run the Mavericks installer and upgrade your machine to Mavericks. Now, you can run DiskMaker X and make that bootable Mavericks USB stick. Optionally, you can perform a second, clean install of Mavericks if you wish.
Mavericks will also create a 600+ MB hidden partition, called a Recovery partition, that you can boot from to repair or reinstall Mavericks itself on the main disk partition.
With the advent of the App Store, physical media has gone away, leaving us with upgrade-only OS X solutions from Apple.

  • Clean install of Lion with Final Cut Express

I use Final Cut Express and Aperture 3 as my main pro software.
Recently when I wiped my boot drive and reinstalled Snow Leopard I found I had to install Final Cut Express first before doing the software
combi update and then installing the rest of my software.
If I now do a clean install of Lion from a backup I have already made from the download last week, is this going to be possible to continue using
FCE4 rather than installing Snow Leopard first and then Lion on top off.
Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Windows 7 install stuck at "expanding windows files (0%)"

I'm going through my first Boot Camp installation and it has been stuck for about 20 minutes already at "Expanding Windows files (0%)."  This doesn't seem right.  Do I just sit tight or has anyone else experienced this and know how to correct it?
I am using an iMac 20" 2.66GHz with a 100Gb Boot Camp partition and have Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit SP1 DVD.

My 2006 is also liist on the uncompatible list.  So there is an extra step to reburn the DVD.
Round about way of saying you bought System Builder? rather than retail which costs more but has both.
You might also have been better with pre-SP1 if you could find it. That does get mentioned from some users.
For free there are Windows 8 CP edition (and release candidate in June) to try, those you do burn from ISO to DVD. Try that.
ALL the support docs, faq etc and manual: http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp
For 2010 iMac there is a driver for ATI. By not telling us what model mac, or whether Lion or not - so you downloaod Apple drivers from BCA

  • Clean install of Mavericks with backup of iTunes and iPhoto on partitioned half of HD

Recently my Macbook pro has been running into the spinning beachball more and more often. In order to figure out wether this is a hardwear or software issue I want to clean install Mavericks and whipe the drive. Only issue with this is I dont have any external hard drive for a iTunes or iPhoto backup so I was wondering if it would be possible to create a partion on my 500gb internal drive where I could store my iTunes and iPhoto libraries. Is this possible? If so how risky?

Sure it's possible and it's not risky. Use Disk Utility and resize your current single partition which give you free space. Then click the '+' sign to turn that free space into a partition. Click Apply.

  • ForecastFox is not showing up on clean install of FF5 with addon-bar enabled and Status Bar-4-Eva installed.

Newly formatted PC, Windows Vista. I did a clean install of FF5, pulled down as the default download from the Mozilla website. Installed Forecast Fox, didn't show. Turned on the add-on toolbar, it now shows FireBug and AdBlocker icons, but no ForecastFox. I installed StatusBar-4-Eva, the icons changed alignment to the right side, but still no ForecastFox

    You're welcome.
I filed a Bug report about the issue of what I consider incomplete instructions for that add-on on the AMO website. But as I suspected would happen when I was filing that report, it was marked as INVALID. <br />
    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=675108
I even did a review of that extension to alert other people to this "problem" and direct them to this thread for help, and wouldn't you know it, the next review is about the same thing - "I have the addon installed but I don't see it anywhere".

  • Could someone help me with instructions for doing a clean install for iMac with mountain lion 10.8.4 ?

Could someone help me with instructions for doing a clean install for Could someone help me with instructions for doing a clean install for an early 2009 iMac 20"  with Mountain Lion 10.8.4 ?
       Thank You,
                                leetruitt

       Barney,  William,  nbar, Galt\'s Gulch:
A nephew stayed with us to take a course at the local community college last semester. I allowed him use of my mac for research just after I installed Mountain Lion. He decided to "help out" and ran a 3rd party clean and tune up app., Magician.  The tune up wiped over 1200 titles of my music in iTunes,  also a path of folders with names containing nothing but more empty folders with names. Almost every program I open and run for a short time crashes, also folders and programs are in wrong places, or cannot be located (the nephew, for instance). Up to this time I have always been able to track a problem far enough to resolve it by careful persistence and good luck, but I do not have the tech savvy to solve this one without getting in deeper. I have run disk utility saveral times and always get  variations of this:
ACL found but not expected on
    "private/etc/resolve.conf"
    "private/etc/raddb/sites-enabled/inner-tunnel"
    "private/etc/rabbd/sites-enabled/control-socket"
Also, after four years of intense daily use it is cluttered with much junk,  and every app that I was curious about, and I am a very curious guy.
So I know my limits, (and now my nephew). I dumped my pc for a Strawberry iMac a few years ago, and so far every problem I've encountered, or brought on myself, the Mac has resolved with its own inner elegance - in spite of my novice bungels - and now I honestly feel ashamed, in addition to the need to apologize to a machine for allowing a peasant into the Royal Grounds - so I am calling the Wise Ones in for this one.
Crazy, I know, but to me a Mac represents something far beyond the ordinary  input ➛ process  ➛ output  title/function customarily assigned to a machine - I sense an odd kind of morality involved, one that I need to respect.
So, these are my reasons for wanting to do a clean install, correctly.
            Thank you,  Truitt

  • Simple question. Is a clean install of Mavericks with Nvidia on macbook ok??

Just purchased a MacBook Pro 15.4” (2012) with 512MB Nvidia 650m dedicated graphics.
The Macbook came with Lion and I'd like to upgrade to Mavericks.
Is it ok to do a clean install of Mavericks on the system without upsetting Nvidia?
This is my first experience with a macbook that has Nvidia graphics so I'd just like to make sure.
    Thanks!

Time machine backup is sufficient correct?
Sufficient, yes, though more than just one backup is always preferable.
The NVIDIA drivers are incorporated with OS X so no particular action is required on your part. In fact, I recommend you do not attempt to install any graphics drivers that are not already included in the Mavericks installer, or otherwise distributed by Apple through App Store software updates.
If you purchased your Mac second hand be sure that you already properly prepared it for you own use: What to do before selling or giving away your Mac
Otherwise, you may be repeatedly harassed for its original owner's Apple ID credentials.

  • AE2010 is not getting to Windows | Stuck at Starting Windows

    Dear all,
I have MSI AE2010. Since few days the network adapter seems not to be stable.
While I tried to restart the PC that I thought it may refresh the devices, the computer
stopped at ( Starting Windows ), Even while trying to get into the safe mode.
I inserted its CD Recovery of Windows and the same problem.
Moreover, I noticed the heat in BIOS (Hardware Monitor) is 55c for the CPU. Is it OK?
The CPU is single core 2650e 1.6GHz.
Please help me come over the stuck problem of windows. Some files on the computer
    are important to me.
    Thank you.

    Dear All,
    I solved my problem
Discovered that once I unplug MSI USB 4-Ports Hub, the system works !
Once plugged, the system stuck there in the starting windows screen.
So after getting to windows without the MSI USB Hub, I can plug it and work normally.

  • How can I install Apple BootCamp with Windows 8 32-bit then upgrade to 64-bit?

I am trying to install Apple Boot Camp on a MacBook Pro 13-inch, bought in early 2013. I have Windows 8 pro 32-bit install package and an install package for 64-bit upgrade.
I received my Windows licenses for free (because I work for a nonprofit). I only have the Windows 8 Pro 32-bit install package. However, I also have the install package to upgrade to Windows 8 Pro 64-bit. The problem is that I can't install the Windows 8 Pro 32-bit on BootCamp to start and then upgrade.
Is there a way to install Windows 8 Pro 32-bit on Apple BootCamp and then upgrade to 64-bit?
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

bootcamp don't have any drivers for 32bit win8 I believe
your best bet is to use virtualbox or another of the virtual machine software and install it there
