Clean install of Vista on 2010 Mini has no sound or ethernet

I've installed Vista (32 bit) and Office 2007 on a Mac Mini 2010 using Bootcamp. Although Wifi works and connects to my router ethernet doesn't. I noticed it didn't during the install. Have tried various combinations, including using another Mac to share it's wifi connection via ethernet and all just show that although Vista thinks the ethernet is healthy it doesn't connect. Boot up in Snow Leopard and all is good.
As for the sound Device Manager shows a problem with the Cirrus driver. I've tried uninstalling and letting Vista install it's own drivers (no luck) and reinstalling the bootcamp drivers to no avail.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Went after an updated ethernet driver at the Broadcom site and got hijacked by a program called Driver Detective which scans the system and wants to take over and wants you to register. Maybe it would work but I'm suspicious. More careful browsing of the Broadcom site located some drivers which I downloaded and installed. Worked!, for a little while and will work again, for a little while. That's better than before when it didn't work at all.
At least that show's it's definitely a driver issue so I'm happy enough to tag this as answered and give up for a while.

  • Clean install Mountain Lion on Mac mini Server (Mid 2011)

    Hi.
I am trying to do a clean install of ML on a Mac Mini Server. This is just a test machine, so not interested in any backups, etc.
The machine is a Mid 2011 Mac Mini, and had Lion Server on it to start with (has been re-installed, reimaged, etc multiple times in it's short life with me so far ..)
I would like to set the internal disks up as a Software Raid 1 config.
I have a successfully created and tested USB stick with OS X ML install on it. I boot the mini with the USB stick, and once the installer options are available, I use the disk utility to create my software raid 1 config. Once this is completed, I proceed with the rest of the install.
Before I can go any further, I am warned that the installer will NOT be able to create a recovery partition, and use time machine backups on this drive.
If I break the raid and install on either one of the drives, the install proceeds without any problems.
Is there a method I can use to do a clean install on this machine with the drives configured as RAID 1?

This is the message that would happen with Lion, see this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4649
Basically when you setup a Raid 0/1, the Lion and Mt. Lion installer won't/can't create a recovery partition.
When you boot from a recovery partition you have access to certain tools, e.g. Disk Utility to restore a Time Machine back up, redownload the OS, etc.
The recovery partition provides a certain bit of convenience but isn't absolutely necessary to run the OS. When you see the message, doesn't it let you go ahead with the install, accepting that no recovery partition will be created?
If you need some of the recovery partition tools, you have a bootable USB stick as well as a backup of the Mt. Lion installer, no?

  • Can I do a clean install on a G4 titanium that has no screen?

My son gave me his G4 titanium which has no screen. He was using it with a cinema display for movies. I sold the cinema display and would like to sell the G4. But I want to do a clean install of Tiger (have disk) on it first. Alternatively I can just erase the hard drive on the G4 in target mode with my 12" powerbook. But I'm curious to know if there's a way to do a clean install on the G4 even though it has no screen. The G4 shows up just fine in target mode on my 12" and verified okay.
    Thanks!

If I load the disk into the 12" it wants to restart the 12" to begin the installation which will kill the FW connection with the G4.
It will be picked up again during or after the restart process, or you could just hold off going into the Installer itself until the restart is done and the Titanium is in that mode.

go thru the whole set-up process again? I can get online with my laptop so I know it still works, but not my desktop which is
where the router is set up. Thanks for help.

Make sure that your Vista Desktop is connected to the router on Ethernet Port and the Port light should be lid. Also Check if the driver for the NIC on your computer is installed properly.

If you get the above mentioned IP Address, Subnet and Gateway Address then you should ping the Gateway, type ping 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...If it gives you request timed out then disable any firewalls, security softwares on the computer...
If you get 4 replies then type ping 4.2.2.2 and press Enter, if you get request timed out, then you need to upgrade your router's firmware...If you get 4 replies then type ping yahoo.com and press Enter...If you get replies for Yahoo then you should get the Internet after adjusting the browser settings...

  • X200 SSD (Solid State Drive) with clean-install of Vista or XP?

    Hi all,
I apologize for starting a new thread on a new forum; however, I am running out of research time.
I am about to buy a X200 with the 64GB SSD (Solid State Drive) (and it needs to be bought by tomorrow Can I ask couple questions? :
    1) I am legally using this for business purposes with an MSDN license, so I can and will install any clean OS immediately. With the option to install any Windows OS; which will work best [or at all] with the SSD? (I have read conflicting articles, but most are outdated due to SSD's being so new.)
    2) With only the SSD and without a MediaBase, I read several guides such as This Thread on this Forum on how "fun" a clean install can be...are there any extra difficulties with the SSD?
I am a software engineer and would normally piece this together my research; however, I am running out of time before I have to decide if the SSD is a viable and installable option at this time (and if I should buy it!)
    Thanks a lot!
    MikeY

    Hello to all.
I'd like to know why AHCI mode is being suggested to use for SSD's?  Please tell me why. I just don't understand. I think using Raid 0 Array would be the better choice. How does AHCI mode vary compaired to Raid 0 ?  Is AHCI a better Mode? Does it give better performance then Raid 0?
I see alot of you are having problems setting up SSD's.  I have read the first thing you need to do is make sure the firmware on any SSD you use should be updated.
I also see a lot of people here talking about the need to install Raid drivers.  This is true with all other OS's, but I have found that after a fresh format, even on a new HD, I just installed Win 7 64 bit ultimate I went right into device manager to see what drivers are needed, & to my surprise all the drivers were already installed, including Raid driver & controller. I set up my Raid 0 Array at the F10 prompt, rebooted with OS disk with master drive after setting up boot sequence, & continued from there no problem with 2 150GB Raptor HD's in Raid 0.
I have gone as far as to use a Western Digital HD CD utility disc that has a write zero utility & used it to fast write zero's to the first 63 tracks & sectors including track 0 sector 0 where the MBR is written, & I've reformatted & reinstalled Win 7 from that point, & all the drivers still get auto installed. You can go right into device manager & see for your self. The only driver I ever need my be a sound driver update & Graphics driver.  I'm not forgetting that the drivers that are auto installed are generic & may need updating, but what I'm saying is, I haven't seen any yellow question marks or exclamation points in device manager like you do with other OS's before Win 7.

  • How do I prep for re-install PSE 7 after clean install of vista/win7?

    Hi all,
I'm guessing that someone has been through this before and has some hints.
I'm running XP-32 and going to move to Win7-64, but plan to install Vista-64 Business 1st, to ease the migration pain(maybe?). Besides backing up my catalog to another drive, what other files do I need to backup? And I have heard that I need to do an uninstall of PSE7 first, so I don't have registration problems when I re-install.
    DJ

    Hi DocDJ,
You can go to adobe.com->Store->YourAccount->View Registrations->View Adobe Branded Registrations to see whether the PSE 7 copy on your machine is registered with Adobe or not.Naturally, if you are formatting the machine and then again installing PSE on new fresh machine, then PSE application will not be able to find the file which might be containing information that your registration information is being sent to Adobe and it will again display you with the registration information. But, you can either click on the Dont ask me again and live with it(since your information is already their on Adobe.com) or you can send in a fresh information to Adobe and they can update their records accordingly.
Apart from you files in Documents & Settings->Users area like catalog, filters, etc, I dont think you need to take back up of anything else (Of course, you will take back up of your pics.)
The only risk if any is that you will face the experience of first time user on the new OS. Regarding licensing data, you can just go ahead and use PSE on new machine, shouldnt be a issue unless you are using the downloaded TnB version of PSE 7 converted into full product because it gets activated and deactivated. So before uninstalling PSE 7 from the old OS you need to deactivate by going into the help menu.
In case you are using the box/retail/full version, then you will not see Help->Deactivate link in the help menu.

  • My new iPad mini has lost sound

I purchased an iPad mini a few weeks ago and the sound was working no problem. All of a sudden it has stopped in apps and music. Checked mute and done a reset but neither have worked?

    Hello Rach42,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with sound on your iPad.  I recommend the following steps for an issue like this (the steps refer to an iPhone but are also applicable to the iPad).  You can skip the steps you have already taken:
Verify that the volume is set to a level you would normally be able to hear.
Ensure that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack or the dock connector.
If the iPhone is in a protective case, make sure that the speaker port isn't blocked by the case.
Make sure that the speaker and dock port aren't clogged with debris. If necessary, clean it with a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush. Carefully and gently brush away any debris.
If an audio issue occurs when using a specific application, try testing other applications to see if the issue persists.
If the iPhone is paired with a Bluetooth headset or car kit:
    Try turning off Bluetooth.
If you experience difficulties with the Bluetooth feature, followthese troubleshooting steps.
    Restart the iPhone.
If restarting doesn't fix the issue, ensure that your iPhone is updated to the latest version of iOS.
If the issue is not resolved after restoring the iPhone software, please contact Apple Support.

  • IPod mini has ticking sound during playback

When I play music, some (but not all) songs have a ticking sound. Any idea what I can look at to correct this problem?

Yes, they do, including after updating to iTunes 6.1 or whatever the newest release is. The ticking sound is not audible playing the CD using iTunes, though. The only thing I have been able to think of is that the USB port is not a high-speed port as it is on my son's computer where the ticking sound is not audible with the same music. Any thoughts?

  • Can't install Flash on Vista clean install

OK...I am thoroughly frustrated. I am working on a clean
install of Vista Ultimate, administrator account with all requisite
permissions, IE7 is conifgured to prompt for Active X, etc. Yet,
when I try to install Flash Player, I get to the screen that has
the green bars running across as if it is installing. Then, it
either runs forever, or I get a pop-up saying "Network Error" or
"Download Interrupted". I am able to download anything from every
other site on the web, so I am not worried about my network
settings. When I check system32/.Macromed directory, there is no
Flash sub-directory, only a Download directory. In that directory
are the following files: Install.exe and Download.dll.
Can anyone please help??? I am pulling my hair out (and I
    don't have a lot left!)
P.S. I have another Vista computer that has FLash on it. Can
I just copy the files from that computer?

That's interesting, and unusual. The two files that you DO
see are put there by the install process. They basically -are- the
    Flash Player installer.
If you were installing the Flash Player PLUGIN (for FireFox,
any non-IE windows browser) then you could copy it over. But for
the OCX activeX control install you cannot. It has to actually
    install.
Can you grab and post a screen shot of those errors? I don't
find any other similar cases in the database.. it's not clear to me
if they're coming from Vista or from the installer..

  • CS4 Setup.exe hangs 32-bit Vista SP1 Clean install

    Help!
I'm having problems installing CS4... After the autoplay opens and I click "Install CS4", the setup.exe process appears in Task Manager, but nothing else happens on the computer.
Any ideas? I'm using CS4 Design Premium, I've got a clean install of Vista SP1 (32-bit version) so I can't work out what's going wrong.

found a solution that worked fine 4 me at http://www.flashden.net/forums/thread/upgrading-to-flash-cs4-from-cs3/8620?page=1
Seems setup has some java issues. Well, worked fine for me and everything is working fine here, so if the url dont open, try this to install:
    thanks goes to modnarus.
    PROBLEM FIXED .
I got the Flash CS4 upgrade to work. If anyone else experiences the same problem when upgrading from Flash CS3 to CS4 heres what I did to correct.
    PROBLEM :
You download the install files and click setup. The setup either hangs on the initializing setup screen, OR you see the setup screen briefly and it disappears.
    SOLUTION :
    (1) Attempt to install Flash CS4 upgrade normally (clicking setup.exe). You probably already did thisso you can actually skip
    (2) Go to control panel, add/remove programs and you should see Flash Professional CS4 in the program list. Leave the control panel up, you will need this later
    (3) Navigate to the following folder on your hard drive: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Installers\a68eec966ce913ddaa63251dc82ed31\resources\common\scripts
    (4) Locate a file called ContainerProxy.js open it with a text editor (E.G.: Notepad).
    (5) Go to line 1102 or simply search for: jsonObj = _jsonToObject(window.external.SetSessionInitialized(initValue)); and replace this line with: jsonObj = _jsonToObject(SetSessionInitialized(initValue));
    (6) Save the file by pressing [Strg]+S or use the menu: Menu -> File Save.
    (7) Go back to the Control Panel
(8.) Highlight software being installed (Flash CS4 )
    (9) Reinitialize the installation by clicking on the change/remove button.
    (10) Setup should now work as normal.

  • Issues While Attempting to Clean Install Yosemite onto 2010 iMac 27"

Having a number of issues trying to clean install Yosemite onto a 2010 iMac 27.
The original 1TB HDD was about to die so I upgraded the hard drive to a Crucial SSD, via an Apple Authorized shop
Memory was also upgraded to 16GB (from the original 4GB)
The install process won't finish, as I get a disk error message from the computer
Since there's no fan control cable attached to the HDD anymore, the fan is on constantly (but I know this is a known / common issue so I will be fixing it via an app like HDD Fan Control)
The installation process keeps starting over
What is causing this installation issue? How can I fix and move forward?
Thanks in advance for help anyone can provide.

I've also tried an alternate method of installing - installing Yosemite onto an external hard drive then cloning this drive onto the SSD installed on the iMac. The computer keeps rebooting. This is the message that pops up. Growing increasingly frustrated. Is this a hardware issue related to the new SSD?

  • 2010 Mini superdrive has stopped working after Mountain Lion update - anyone else?

After updating to 10.8 the superdrive on my 2010 mini has completely stopped working. It will not accept any disks. Disk Utility sees the drive as a working drive. Anyone else having this issue? If yes and you've resolved it, how??

Same thing happened to me with Mountain Lion. It seems that at the moment there's no solution. I've tried to burn a DVD with Toast Titanium, iDVD and the SimplyBurn. All of them failed.
It's a shame that Apple did this because we pay for a computer with a drive that could burn DVD discs. I´m very, very disappointed with Apple!

  • Vista clean install with no CD

Hi, I was asked by a neighbor to help him with a computer issue. Basically my friend needed to reinstall Vista after he got a few nasty virus's and asked another friend to first help out. This person installed a Dell version of Windows XP with locked him out. He did not make an install CD first and then messed it up more when trying to fix it.
So now I am attempting to do a clean install of Vista for him but I do not have the install CD, just his activation Key.  Is there anyway to get a Vista download? I am doing this as a free favor and I do not want to have to purchase anything.  Its a Lenovo T400.
I am halfway tempted to just give him Ubuntu but figured I would make a last ditch effort here before creating more work for myself by teaching him a new OS.

    hi girlGeek,
     Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
You can get an ISO from this site
    http://www.w7forums.com/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-image-downloads-t12325.html
Make sure to check the version of Windows Vista on the activation key and download the matching ISO on the link
download the windows ISO and burn it to a DVD using imgburn. and use that to install windows back.
    Hope this helps,

  • L7780 All in One - Windows 7 Clean Install - Error when printing

I have a huge problem with a failry new L7780 all in one. I has stopped printing from my laptop. I recently upgraded to Windows 7 with a clean install from Vista....ergo I formated the disk and then reinstalled Windows 7 . And, now every time I print I get the following message "the job has failed due to an error on the printing system"
The printer is selected as default.
The printer does connect through wireless onto my network , and does appear on my PC as connected. However, once I press print after a few seconds it seems to disappear.
I have not altered any network settings and MAC address is off on my router. It was working fine on 2 Home pc's running XP, worked great with Vista. And its only this one Laptop with Windows 7 that can't print to it for some reason.
However, sometimes when I have shutdown...all of a sudden it prints out what I asked it to 30 minutes ago.
I have tried installed and re-installing drivers.
I have tried forced start ups .
Switching it off at the mains.
    Resetting the network adpater.
I can only think at this stage there is a compatibility issue with Windows 7.
Any clues? Any help anyone can offer.
    Cheers,

If this sounds like your issue:
After installing the product on a network, you turn the computer off, and then on, and the product loses functionality. The product no longer prints and the product icon disappears from the Devices and Printers menu in Windows 7 (64-bit).

  • How to clean install Win7

I would like to have a clean install Win7 to my thinkpad with original vista pre-installed.
I do not want to erase the F11 recovery function, that is keeping drive Q and S.
However, if I install win7 from the installation disc, the MBR will be erased.
    Please give me some advice.

Unfortunately, with a clean install you will be reformatting the drive I assume, partitioning it and installing the OS. In this process you will loose the recovery drive. What you can do is back up SWTools, and the Recovery Partition to another source, and recreate the Recovery Partition once you have finished doing your clean install. The support article ishaan has pointed to is an excellent resource, which will also give you an indication of what folders to back up.
Edit: with some further research, you may be able to just delete the partition with the OS on it, repartition, and perform a clean install, on the new partition. I would still take all means to back up. Microsoft has an article here that may be of some assistance.
Good Luck, and keep us posted on your progress. Thank You.
