Clean Up 311 issues - Yikes!

My Mac is only a year old and I haven't installed a lot of software, but Sophos has come up with no viruses but 311 issues. A lot of the other issues have to do with mail, so maybe I shouldn't be too worried. I've just upgraded to Yosemite and I thought it would be good to "clean up" my system. I've heard bad news about cleanmymac and don't know IF there is a reliable product I can use to reduce the number of issues. Is Sophos being too careful? Suggestions? Thank you.

Hey, sorry for the slow reply on this.
To answer your question - those .ide files are actually virus definition files, so nothing to be concerned about. 
As for the "issues detected" you saw in the scan log - you can usually safely ignore these. Normally it's things like encrypted, corrupt or non-accessible files (say if you unplugged a removeable hard drive during the scan.) For more information on these, you can check out the short video below:

    Why the need to repair it?
    You could:
    1. Create a new Outook profile a different name and a new ost will be created ( leaving the old one there)
    2. Close up Outlook completely, delete the existing.ost and re-open Outlook to create a new one.
    3. Close Outlook completely and rename the existing .ost and re-open Outlook to create a new one.

  • Database clean shutdown status Issues with ESEUTIL

    hi all i am currently trying to go the process of taking my database backup from a dirty shutdown into a clean shutdown state with ESEUTIL.
    a user has lost some items from there sent items folder so i am restoring it for them.
    i have checked the state of the database and it shows dirty shutdown so i am running the command below to replay the log files.
     C:\>eseutil /r E00 /l "C:\database recovery\Mailbox Database 1813862868\data" /d "C:\database recovery\Mailbox Database 1813862868\data" -verbose
    it begins to process but them comes up with the following error suggesting i use the /a argument, i cant seem to find much information on this wondered if anyone had any suggestions. i ran the -verbose command to help try and narrow it down 
    can some one help with what the /a argument does or if they have had this issue themselves a possible way to resolve it.

    1. I would start with your VSS backup provider Cloudberry since as part of the backup validation it shouldn't have passed if those files were missing and upon restore of the EDB it should have also provided all needed Log files.  Now its possible they
    were missing prior to backup and that could be for any number of reasons, i.e. Anti Virus if improperly configured could have deleted or quarantined them etc, however more concerning is that the backup provider called that backup good.  I would look at
    the backup logs to see what they reported as its possible they did report an issue during backup.  The other possibility is that the files are within the backup but didn't restore for some reason and for that you would need to do another test restore
    to validate.  Also could be that upon restore the logs were deleted by your Anti Virus provider and of course you can check the AV logs and quarantine...
    2. Running a /P against a restored backup for item level recovery is not as big of a deal as it would be if you were putting the db back into production.  True you can still lose data with a /P but for what you were doing not an issue IMO especially if
    you recovered the needed data.
    3. The log loss also was in the middle of the needed log chain which is never a good sign. Sometimes you can get by that issue by removing all logs after the missing log file and just trying to play it up to that point in time.
    P.S. If you are missing the log files post backup and want to avoid running a /P on an inconsistent/dirty database the only choices are to;
    A: find the logs (Look at AV logs and quarantine or perhaps re restore the files again from backup)
    B: do the /P
    C: Check out our DigiScope product that can bypass most /P issues by using our Forensic mount to open the database and then extract the needed information to PST or restore it directly to any mailbox on the original or alternate exchange server (even alternate
    versions i.e. 5.5-->2000-->2003-->2007-->2010-->2013 etc.)

    Can anyone tell me that If I want my user to download clean access agent so how can I achieve that...I have uploaded agent to my CAM but Im confused that should my user use web agent first then download the agent over network or he can download Clean agent directly ?

    Unlike the Clean Access Agent, the Cisco NAC Web Agent is not a "persistent" entity, thus it only exists on the client machine long enough to accommodate a single user session. Instead of downloading and installing an Agent application, once the user opens a browser window, logs in to the NAC Appliance web login page, and chooses to launch the temporal Cisco NAC Web Agent, an ActiveX control or Java applet (you specify the preferred method using the Web Client (ActiveX/Applet) option in the Administration > User Pages > Login Page configuration page) initiates a self-extracting Agent Stub installer on the client machine to install Agent files in a client's temporary directory, perform posture assessment/scan the system to ensure security compliance, and report compliance status back to the NAC Appliance system.     Need your help, I'm facing the following issue, I'm trying to transfer posting from batch to other batch using 309,
    Using MIGO
    the material, plant, storage location are the same but the batch number are different, I didn't get any message and when I save, there's nothing is changed, I checked the material document and found that the destination batch is same as source batch.

    the material, plant, storage location are the same but when I entered the source batch, the batch number is copied to the destination batch number and I got message  M7104 "stock to be removed from storage same as stock to be placed into the storage" and I can't change the destination batch number.

    You can well use 309 movement type in MIGO or MB1B and also you can well change the receiving batch number during the transaction..

    What the status of receiving batch shows in MIGO or MB1B ?
    Also check you field selection for movement type 311
    Go to OMBW, double click on 311, then double click on Transfer Posting
    It should be as optional entry.
    Then try again MB1B.

  • Clean Access License issue

    Hello,
    I'm implementing a Cisco clean access solution (Out-of-band VG).I've entred the license in the CAM after getting it from Cisco by entering the PAK number.
    the problem is that I don't see the Switch management Tab in the menu, also when I want to add a CAS server there is no way to specify the Out-of-band option, there is only Inband and VG.
    the problem is reselved temporarely by entering a 30 days license.
    Is it a license problem?
    how can I resolve this issue?

    The switch management will show when you add a CAS license for OOB to your CAM. Without a CAS license the switch management tabs don't get displayed.
    You should have a separate PAK that came with the CAS. Use that PAK and the eth0 MAC address of your manager (NOT your server) to get the CAS license, upload that to your CAM and it should work fine.

    I've just installed windows 7 Professional x64. Now I'm experiencing some wireless issues such as constant breaks on the wireless connection (every 5 minutes more or less). I've tried to install the lastest drivers for the wireless LAN adapter, without success.
    By the way, I have a Toshiba Satellite U500.

    It's a U500/00k? Model PSU9MA-00K013.
    I havent actualy managed to access windows at all. The install problem has come up "out of the box" so checking any settings is impossible.
    It just keeps looping back to the same error message. The only software I have is what came on the hard drive, and an XP istall disc that came with the package. According to the manual, if i use the XP disk it will wipe XP completely.
    So frustrated right now.

  • Clean Install Permissions Issues

    I am in the process of doing a clean install but am going to take some precautionary measures just in case. I have a external HD that I will put all my files etc. but the most important things are my address book contacts and my mailboxes. So I archived all my mailboxes so their in the .mbox format then went to another account to try and import them. At first the permissions were wrong so I set them as Read & Write for all users and Admins etc. I tried again it started to work but then a dialog came up saying "No valid mbox files were found". So what can I do to prepare for this. Also to prepare for the movement of address book .vfiles?

    basically yes. You can manually transfer your Mail to the new drive as follows.
    Make sure that Mail is not running. copy the file homedirectory/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist and the entirefolder homedirectory/Library/Mail from the external drive to the corresponding locations on the new drive. when you start Mail it will look exactly as it was before.
    To transfer Address Book copy the file homedirectory/Library/Preferences/com.apple.addressbook.plist and the entire folder homedirectory/Library/Application Support/Address Book from the external to the corresponding locations on the internal. as before, make sure address book is not running when you do this.

    i have also tried to uninstall firefox to no avail
    when i try to download 3.6.15 it works to 100% then is searching for viruses and there it stops.
    i can get on the internet with firefox... but can't get to my email using thunderbird... but i was told the problem is a firefox issue.

    I had already tried a reinstall before, but thanks for the suggestion. Starting FF in Safe mode did not help either.
    XULRunner is specific to FF. Mostly found discussion about using the code in web pages when I used Google before posting.
    When FF went from version 3.6.14 to version 3.6.15 this issue started. Please note the Error message and the version info I just mentioned.

    Avast sandbox is up to date and works just fine with everything else. More importantly it worked just before the update was installed.
    The only reason I bothered with the update is because Mozilla touted it as a security issue and there was NO mention of any known issues with sandbox software.

  • New MacBook Pro C2D Startup issues

    Hi,
    I have my MBP for 3 weeks now and normally leave it on all the time (on and off the AC) For the most part it will wake up from sleep just fine.
    In the last 3 nights I turned the MBP off before I went to sleep.
    When I tried to boot in the morning the machine makes the regular DVD noise but it will keep doing this noise for 3 times, the light on the front will turn on but the machine will not start. There is also no startup chime. No video. When I pressed the power button to turn it off and then on, it will do the same.
    I had been thrugh nightmare with a first generation MB so I had an idea on what to do -- I reset the PRAM and it starts fine.
    This has been happening 3 mornings in a row. (I don't have anything connected to the MB other then the AC adapter.
    I repaired permissions, went throguh the hardware test, took the battery out, checked the Apple website for firmware updates, and although there was firmware update 1.2 for MBP on 11/13, after launching it, I get a messge that tells me that my computer doesn't need the update.
    I get all kinds of weird behaviors and the MBP will become very slugish... the highlight was today while burning a DVD in Toast none of my applications will launch, every application I would click on the dock will just bounce about 20 times and then stop. I couldn't even relaunch the Finder and ended up pressing the power button to force it to shut down. mind you, It restarted fine.
    I read in one OLD thread here on the Apple forums that someone had similar problems with a MB and it was resolved by the firmware update.
    Does anyone has similar issues or have any idea why my machine will act like this? I rather try to resolve it myself before I call Apple care or go to the Apple store.

    Yes, I reinstalled the OS (clean install)
    The issues with starting up in the morning still consistant.
    It appears that if I shut down and restart right away, there is no issue- it's ok, but if the machne is off for awhile it will not boot on the first time.
    I left my MBP off all day and took it to the Apple store after work.
    The MBP will not reboot at first which really surprised the guy who claimed to be head technician. He kept insisting that's it's a 3rd party software issue, and I was saying, how come a 3rd party software will affect the booting of the computer? ( you can't even here the chime!)
    He suggested that I will go home and clean install OS X again, and this time not to install anything else on it. The test is on. I did a clean reinstall. The machine will be off tonight, and we'll see what will happen in the morning!

  • Drop Zone Issue

    Since updating to FCPX 10.0.6,  Both Titles, Transistions and Gernerators that came with final cut and one's I have made myself do not allow me fill a Drop Zone with video. It fill's the drop zone with a Still from the last frame of the video clip I inserted, instead of playing the whole video clip. It worked prior to the upgrade and is something I use on a regular basis. Any Ideas? I've also tried on HD and SD Projects, I'm running the news update of Mountain Lion, and I have 16 iMacs with the same issue.

    Drop Zones have been improved in 10.0.6, so I'm sorry you are having difficulties. Motion Titles and Generators (and I'm sure Transitions) with drop zones now behave as expected -- i.e.: dragging out the effect clip will no longer change the playback speed/retiming of the drop zone media, nor will it be limited to the original length of the effect as it was before; which means, you can drop a clip and resize the template to accomodate the playing length of the clip without sacrificing the timing or a predefined "out point".
    There is a recommendation for "best practices" for upgrading to 10.0.6 (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5550?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US).  I think it was incomplete (at least it was in my case) because of the preferences issues that came about.  You can try to delete preferences, but I ended up doing a complete "fresh" install. I followed these instructions: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5149 to remove any and all possible problem files.
    *My* issue was mainly that none of the text boxes I published from Motion would appear in FCPX. There was also another "presumed" issue which turned out not to be one: Anamorphic Override (apparently ONLY appears for SD media and not for 1440x1080 media... maybe next release...)
    So, try deleting preferences first (http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/) and if worse comes to worse (and I hope for your sake it doesn't come to this!): do a fresh install... that should clean up any issues you might be having.

    Some people read part of this before, but it is still unresolved and QuickTime crept in with a minor issue as well.
    First issue:
    Neither iTunes 7.3 or iTunes 7.3.1 will install on my my Mac.
    The error message I get is:
    There were errors installing the software.
    Please try installing again.
    I don't have any 3rd party iTunes Plugins nor do I have any haxies. I run the system clean.
    Second issue:
    Quicktime 7.2, for the most part is working fine, but when using the Safari [2.0.4] browser and trying to preview streaming Quicktime movie trailers from the web, all I get is the the player bar with no picture. Which provides sound, but no picture.
    Edit: I realize their is a work around for iTunes 7.3, which is downloading the full version directly from the website and installing it that way. But, I am reporting anyway so that Apple moderators can report issues back to developers. ie: I will download the full version and upgrade that way.
    Edit: Okay, direct download of iTunes installer worked fine to upgrade iTunes. All that is left is the QuickTime 7.2 issue.
    My set up is:
    G4/450 AGP
    Mac OS X (10.4.9)
    768MB of RAM - 2 80GB Seagate

    Sorry, I can't help with resolving your issue, but I thought I'd add my similar difficulties so other readers can add to their knowledge (troubleshooting) base.
    I also run a fairly clean system. Learned long ago not to add bunches of "cool" 3rd party stuff. Anyway...
    I'm running OSX 10.4.10 on both my desktop 1.25 GHz G4 MDD and my 15" G4 Aluminum Powerbook.
    When SOFTWARE UPDATE said a new iTunes was available I promptly downloaded the update. Both machines were running iTunes 7.3 with no problem. The 7..3.1 update installed w/o incident on my Powerbook; and seems to running fine (so far).
    The update DID NOT install on the G4 MDD. I keep getting, "A networking error has occurred: Error NSURLErrorDomain -1005 (-1005). Make sure you can connect to the internet then try again."
    I tried several different methods including moving the UPDATE PACKAGE file from the Powerbook to the desktop and still have the same problem.
    With everything I've read on this forum, I'm not too concerned about getting 7.3.1 installed right now. I don't have an iPhone and have no near-term plans to get one. Maybe when it moves to T-Mobile.

  • Audio & Visual issues after updgrade

    I just got a new Mac Pro, after which, in the SD project I was working on in FCP5 1) the video started showing through the audio windows of the viewer and the audio waveforms disappeared. I updgraded to FCP6 (which I wasn't planning to do until after I completed the project) and downloaded/installed all updates.
    The same thing is happening and at first I assumed this would be a common problem with an easy patch, but I don't see any other post with this issue. yikes.
    Secondly, after upgrading to FCP6, the video looks fine on my monitor, but it looks lower rez on-screen in both the viewer and canvas, not totally low-rez, but slightly pixelating. I checked the sequence settings for the project and all looks the same as it was pre-upgrade.
    Does anyone have an idea of what's going on with the audio waveforms and how to fix it? that is def. my biggest problem at the moment.

    Wow, this sounds really weird.
    Hm, I think the best solution will be to backup your data and to recover your system, because the update probably has confused your system so much that its making such things.
    In my opinion maybe the only solution, because if you already tried to reinstall the drivers and to set your system to a earlier restore point and nothing happens this seems to be a really weird software problem. And try to avoid some updates. I know how this sounds but I do it too.
    For example: I have 3 Notebooks, 2 with XP and 1 with Vista. On my XP rigs I just have servicepack 2 and its good how it is, works fine and perfect.

  • A3 driver issue for Edirol UA-25

    Hi,
    After installing and starting to record via a Edirol UA-25 to Audition 3 on a Windows Vista machine, a work mate of mine went for lunch and came back to find that the audio interface had dropped the edirol and reverted back to vista's sound default. Any attempt to select the UA-25 resulted in Vista displaying a message about trying to use an unsupported asio driver!
    Anyone come across this before? I find it odd that it stopped working although initially had no problem.

    The Edirol sound cards cannot dynamically switch sample rates. Sounds like Audition is trying to use a audio sample rate that the card is not set to.
    Make sure that the session sample rate is that same as what is set on the card if you are working with the ASIO driver.
    A possible work around is to use the Audition Windows Sound driver, it could clean up some issues with the Edirol cards.

  • Very intermittent JDialog issue - the panel component is transparent

    Hi,
    I am running JRE/JDK 1.6_06 on Windows XP SP2 and am getting a very intermittent issue
    (happens perhaps 1 out 200 times or so). The issue is that a new JDialog does not show its
    panel component and what should be in the panel is transparent. You see what would be underneath
    the JDialog in the panel. The JDialog itself is visible.
    Here are some additional details.
    1) If I switch to another windows app and then back to my Java App, the contents then display correctly.
    2) As a workaround, I tried repainting the JDialog after it was visible in another Thread but that did not help.
    3) I have my own application tracing to confirm no threading issue involved.
    4) The memory/cpu are all good. This is not a race condition.
    5) There is no signs of trouble in terms of an exception being thrown. The RunTime from Java is
    completely clean. No issues.
    6) If I simply close the JDialog and recreate the JDialog again all is well.
    7) In my code, I null the JDialog instance at the point when the user closes down the dialog.
    (I thought that perhaps some kind of garbage clean up might be involved?)
    I suspect a low-level devise driver type issue between the JVM and Windows.
    I will see if I can reproduce this on Linux.
    If anyone has ever heard of or seen any issue like this before that would be helpful.
    Again, there are no signs of trouble from the Java Runtime. I believe the Runtime is unaware of
    any issue. I simply do not see the contents of the dialog. Again very intermittent. Hard to reproduce.
    Let me know if I you need additional details. This is just to get going on this issue.

    Here is an update as I guess this problem is very deep and I will need to come up with a
    test case for a real Swing bug and file a bug with Sun.
    The problem does not reproduce with JRE 1.5.0_15 on Windows in exhaustive testing.
    Before I launch the dialog where I see a transparent panel, I have a database query which
    is done in worker thread. I show the user a panning wait dialog which they can use to cancel
    the query. It appears that this extra work of the panning dialog is important in having this issue
    occur. If I simply do all the work in a single thread, I have not seen the issue reproduce. But again,
    it is not always easy to get the issue to reproduce.
    At this time, I suspect a threading issue (bug) which causes this issue.
    Thanks for at least reading about my issue. I will update this item as I have more information so
    that I can share what I learn with any interested readers.
