Clear cookies on exit Except for listed Exceptions

Firefox used to allow clearing history including cookies on exit while retaining those cookies marked as exceptions in the privacy panel. It appears that the clear on close now deletes all history, regardless of exceptions settings. It would be highly useful to be able to specify which sites can set "permanent" cookies while also allowing other sites to set session cookies only *and* allowing users to clear all history, cookies, etc. for site not specifically excepted from such history clearing settings. Does anyone know what was changed such that this mo longer works as it used to in earlier versions? Are exceptions functioning as intended now, or are exceptions meant to be global, including clear on exit settings?

I'm encountering this problem in Firefox 3.6.12 and it's been occurring for a while -- so I'm not sure exactly what update changed the behavior but wish they'd put it back so any marked "Allow" in the Exceptions would be retained like they used to be.
Meanwhile, I've come up with a partial workaround using the free third-party Windows utility named CCleaner from [http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner], which has the ability to selectively delete cookies when it's run.
How the utility operates on cookies is controlled in its Options > Cookies settings where there are two lists, one for cookies to delete and another for those to keep. By default, all cookies are in the Cookies to Delete column. To prevent that, I moved the cookies I wanted to retain to the second list and then scheduled CCleaner to run automatically at set intervals using Window's Task Scheduler and the following command-line <b><pre>"C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCleaner.exe" /AUTO</pre></b>. See the CCleaner Online Help for scheduling it to run automatically.
Once that is in place you can tell Firefox to keep cookies until the expire and let CCleaner handle getting rid of all of them all except for the ones you've indicated you want retained. This isn't as good as having Firefox do it every time you start and exit the program, but is better than nothing...
Hope this helps.
'''Update'''
I just found this Mozilla extension called "CookieCuller" that might help it's at [http://example.com https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/82] and has a "Cookie Keep List".

  • Can you configure firefox to remove all cookies on exit EXCEPT cookies from user defined (friendly) domains?

I think my question is clear and doesn't need additional details, but this detail box apparently cannot be blank.

Let all cookies expire when you close Firefox.
    * Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Keep until": "I close Firefox"
Make an Allow exception for the ones that you want to keep.
    * Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Exceptions"
You can inspect and modify the permissions for the domain in the current tab in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"<br />
Make sure that you do not use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences" (Site Preferences includes the cookie exceptions)
Clearing cookies will remove all specified (selected) cookies including cookies that have an allow exception.

  • Can Firefox be set-up to keep cookies from selected sites while normally deleting cookies when exiting Firefox

I'm new to Firefox and I've been using Opera. I've been able(in Opera) to retain cookies from sites I use often (bank, etc.) while having as a default clearing cookies when exiting , but only the cookies that were set during that session. Can the cookies settings in Firefox be configured to allow this.

The default Firefox installation doesn't have a feature like that, but there are some extensions that add that feature to Firefox.

  • Firfox 8 is sometimes very slow to load random websites and others it loads quickly, IE8 loads all websites ok. Have cleared cookies and cache and allowed ff as exception in Windows firewall.

I use FF 8.0 (x86en-US) as default browser, since update to 8.0 FF intermittently takes ages to load some websites, sometimes not loading the site at all. To rectify this I go back one page to the Google results or hyperlink and ask FF to load the webpage again. This usually solves the problem but not always. I have cleared cookies and cache and added FF to exceptions in windows firewall. The websites affected are not always the same and some that load quickly one day can take ages next time. IE8 loads all websites OK. Antivirus and malware scans all clear.

  • How can I save the cache/cookies for specific websites but delete all other cache/cookies upon exiting Firefox?

I am using Firefox 14.0.1. I have it set to delete cache/cookies on exit, keeping my "foxden" clean. However, if I want to save the cache and cookies for a particular website, i.e a flash game that will save my current level, I cannot unless i disable the cache -clearing feature.
I would like to be able to "add an exception" to the cache-clearing or at the very least, be able to copy the relevant files for that page and paste them back before opening Firefox again.
    Any ideas?

    That is not possible.<br />
You can only clear the entire cache.
If you do not want specific content to get cached or written to disk then you need to switch on Private Browsing.

For cookies you must not use clear history, but let all cookies expire when you close Firefox and make an allow exception for cookies from domains that you want to keep.

  • Firefox won't delete cookies even after set to clear cookies on firefox exit

I have use custom settings for remembering history in firefox.
I set to clear history on firefox close. Under this settings, I set to clear cookies, active login and cache. But whenever firefox exits it doesn't remove cookies.
Also, I set to keep cookies till firefox closes. Still the cookies appears.
This is a big security issue for me..When I click restore previous session, firefox restores the login into sites also which I don't want

    Got It!!!
Go To: Firefox/Tools/Options/Privacy/Tracking Checked box/Tell websites I do not want to be tracked/ History Firefox will: Never Remember History/ You may also want to: clear all current history/ Clear now/ click OK, ---> got it, that is your answer.<-- (Right click the left image below to open in a new tab)
And it is my answer as well, as I was confounded with this problem for some time. Now after you do this close your Firefox browser, and open back up Firefox browser, and there will be maybe only one or two cookies, depending on your browsers' home page.
I tried other methods to get rid of persistent cookies that would not delete by, CookieKiller, and TACO Targeted Advertising Cookie Opt-Out, those did not help, and I tried the methods listed on these links but they did not work:http://webdevwonders.com/clear-dom-storage/
Also this method did not work:http://justplainobvious.blogspot.com/2009/03/firefox-wont-delete-cookies.html
Next to make your Firefox browsing possible, go to/Firefox/Tools/Options/Privacy/,Tracking Checked box/Tell websites I do not want to be tracked, History Firefox will: Use custom settings for history, unchecked box Always use private browsing mode, unchecked box Remember my browsing history, unchecked box Remember download history, unchecked box Remember search and form history, checked box Accept cookies from sites, checked box Accept third party cookies, Keep until: I close Firefox, checked box clear history when Firefox closes, /settings all nine boxes checked/ click --->OK! (Right click the right image below to open in a new tab)
    All Cookies are gone/history/deleted.

I received a phishing email supposedly from my bank and clicked on url - didn't enter any data though.Bank says to get ipad checked for viruses, but I understood ipad has built in security.I've cleared cookies in safari via settings.  Anything else to do?

I know this has been solved as you reported, but I think you need to check with your e-mail provider. Did you also get this same e-mail on your computer? If you use the same ID for e-mail on computer and ipad, it should have appeared on both. It's very common spam. Check your computer to see if on it, the e-mail is in spam, or, if you deleted it on your ipad, check your recently deleted e-mails.
You might want to consider changing your password, though people sending spam, don't need it. My e-mail provider had me change my password, not because I was getting spam, but unknown to me, I was sending it!  (You'll still get some spam, though.) It's when you learn that you're unknowingly sending spam...that you must change your password.
    Hope this helps.
(Ss I was sending this, I just got an e-mail notification from the Nigerian... it got to my e-mail instead of going to spam.)

  • How to clear cookies for a single domain?

The new Developer Tools on IE 11 is terrible.
Previously, we can clear session cookies for the current page or clear cookies for the whole domain (of the current page).  My page is now showing
www.facebook.com and I am logged in to Facebook.  I click the Network icon followed by the Clear cookies icon.  Then I hit Enter in the Address box (note: not F5).  Fiddler2 shows that IE 11 is submitting lots
of facebook.com cookies (act, c_ser, csm, p, presence, s, xs).
    According to
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ie/dn255004(v=vs.85).aspx "Clear cookies ensures that all cookies related to the current domain are removed, so that you get the experience of loading the page for the first time."
Are there any hidden configurations I must do to have Clear cookies to work?
    Thanks.
PS: Chrome is so much more flexible.  Not only can I clear cookies for the domain of the current page, but also any or all domains which the current page loads via script.

    Hi,
We just could clear the current domain through Clear cookies in the
    Network tab.

  • How can I deploy the setting of clear cache on exit for all users?

How can I deploy the setting of clear cache on exit for all users?

Note that Firefox disables the disk cache if you use "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear the cache (see about:cache), so you can either disable the disk cache via its related pref or set the prefs related to clearing this data, but then other items that have a check-mark by default are cleared as well.
    *browser.cache.disk.enable
    *privacy.clearOnShutdown.cache
    *privacy.sanitize.sanitizeOnShutdown
You can use a mozilla.cfg file in the Firefox program folder to lock prefs or specify new (default) values.
Place a local-settings.js file in the defaults\pref folder where also the channel-prefs.js file is located to specify using mozilla.cfg.
    pref("general.config.filename", "mozilla.cfg");
These functions can be used in the mozilla.cfg file:
defaultPref(); // set new default value
pref(); // set pref, but allow changes in current session
lockPref(); // lock pref, disallow changes

  • Multiple crashes fixed by turning off hardware and Flash acceleration; very slow now. Takes five seconds to exit and still listed as a running process

A workaround was suggested by a member of the community to turn off both hardware and Flash acceleration. It worked fine (no crashes since), but runs very slowly. In particular, takes five seconds to exit and is often still listed as a running process. Very slow in connecting to Web pages, and very slow loading them because of the graphics. Very slow in loading video. I expected slower responses, but this is REALLY slow. I'm running 64-bit Windows 7 and an Nvidia GE Force 7800 graphics card with all the drivers updated and the plugins for Firefox mostly set on "ask to activate". Should I expect this much reduction in performance when the workaround I mentioned was put into place? If so, it's half a loaf at best. The only thing questionable is that I have two Youtube downloaders that I am trying, but I made the assumption that these were only applied when you downloaded something from Youtube.

In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes": do not clear the Cookies
If you clear cookies then Firefox will also try to remove cookies created by plugins and that requires to start plugin-container processes that can slow down closing Firefox.
Instead let the cookies expire when Firefox is closed to make them session cookies.

You should get a Firewire connected hard drive and backup your MB's HD to it. That way, if something goes wrong during the installation, you can recover your current sytem, apps and files. After the SL install, you can use the external HD for frequent backups.
