Clear history and private browsing is stuck in gray

stop private browsing and clear history are stuck in gray and not responding when I click on them

You have turned on Permanent Private Browsing mode which makes those options grey so you don't accidentally turn it off.
Fortunately, there is a easy way to turn it off.
Click the Firefox button > Options > Options > Privacy tab then uncheck '''Permanent Private Browsing''' and click OK.
Or, if you don't have the orange Firefox button: <br>
Tools > Options > Privacy tab then uncheck '''Permanent Private Browsing''' and click OK.

  • Previous image flashes on the screen occasionally when opening safari. Even after clearing history and cache.

Occasionally an image from a previous website appears briefly when opening safari. I'm afraid it might do it with a site that has private information and other individuals use this ipad. Is this a problem fixed in the updates to the iOS or something different entirely.  The image flashes sometimes even after clearing history and cache.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • How to retieve history from private browsing in firefox?

If I want to see the history in private browsing, how can I retrieve the sites which one has seen in firefox private window.

I suspect that you have a misconception of what Private Browsing is all about. See this support article for an explanation of what Private Browsing does, and doesn't do. <br />

  • 5.1 Preferences/Cookies and Private Browsing gone haywire - BACKWARDS

There is something gone wrong, all haywire with the new version of Safari at 5.1.  The Cookies settings in the Prefs has "Block" settings, and I have it set at "ALWAYS" and yet it allows for me to sign in to any webpage with my name and password, whereas before I couldn't. At the same time, if I use "Private Browsing" and set that, it actually blocks my Cookies!!!! whereas before all it did was not remember History.   Somebody messed up the programming and got this one completely backwards, this should be the other way around.
Cookies set to ALWAYS should block all cookies and Private Browsing should not block cookies just not remember history.
This is a major blunder. Needs immediate update fix, please.

    1. There are other threads on this issue
    2. At least for me, the forums are not letting me 'reply' to posts, I am getting past this by going to 'advanced' and posting from there.

  • IPad background is red rather than black. I cleared history and cookies and restarted but the background is still red.  How do I fix this?

IPad had a black background.  I lost the internet yesterday and now that it is back up and running, my IPad background is now red.  I cleared history and cookies and  restarted and it is still red.  Software is up to date according the the IPad.  How do I get my black background back?

Only when i go to a different browser (like IE) after i clear it , then all that shows up is the pages i visited in IE , that is what bugs me , why is IE browsing history sowing up in Firefox ??
Basically , i can clear the history in Firefox , and then for a example , go to Craigslist , using IE7 (launching it from a complete different Icon , in other words at that time i never open Firefox) , then after closing out , or even leaving open as it does not seem to matter , i go into Firefox , and hit History , and there is every place i visited in IE7 , on my History in Firefox

  • Why do some pages (Facebook) in Safari 5.1 show up in History when Private Browsing is turned on in Lion??

Why do some pages (like Facebook) show up in my History when Private Browsing is turned on in Lion?

Agreed, going to Firefox is the step in the right privacy direction.

AdBlock Plus, BetterPrivacy, Ghostery, Click&Clean and yes even NoScript (drag a Temp allow all button to the toolbar)
To deny your computer from accessing Facebook
    In Admin user
    sudo pico /etc/hosts
Arrow down below the material you see there and don't change it
    add
    0.0.0.0 www.facebook.com
    0.0.0.0 www.facebook.net
control x to exit and save.
another easier way (can use in Standard User this way) is to use the free TextWrangler and open file by name:
    /etc/hosts
    and perform the same thing.

  • History of Private Browsing

I suspect my 13 yr old son has been using the "private browsing" function to hide his browsing practices. For instance, yesterday I know he re-arranged our netflix queue and watched one of their movies on demand. However, when I view the history all I see is a visit to our church's website. Technical support tells me there is no way for me to view the history of "private browsing". Is that accurate?
If so, what type of 3rd party software do you recommend I install to monitor his internet usage even when in private browsing mode?
    Thanks for your help!!

    Hi,
Technical support tells me there is no way for me to view the history of "private browsing". Is that accurate?
Yes, that's accurate. It wouldn't be very private if you could see where someone has been
If you're using a router to connect to the internet, many of them offer logging facilities to record what sites have been accessed. Check the documentation that came with it to see if this is possible.
Also, you could change your DNS settings to use OpenDNS which can also record what domains are being requested:

    Accounts with OpenDNS are free.

  • I can't get my iphone 5. Ios 7, to accept cookies. I have set the 'block cookies' field ti either never or from third parties. I have cleared history and cookies and data, restart the iphone. Please help...

I upgraded my iphone to os 7 two days ago. However, now it cant accept cookies at all. I have set field 'block cookies' to never or from third parties. I have cleared history and cookies, then reboot my iphone. I have tries to force close all applications. Still, cant accept cookies. Please help...

Make sure you have the latest iTunes version installed and hopefully you have the most recent backup of your iPhone.  Do a DFU restore.  While it's plugged in to your computer, press and hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons together until the screen is off.  When the screen's off, release only the Sleep/Wake button and keep holding down the Home button.  Wait until you see in iTunes on your computer to show that it detected it in recovery mode.  When it does, proceed with the restore.  It will be restored and updated to the latest iOS 7.0.2.  If you have a backup, restore from that backup once iOS 7.0.2 is successfully installed on your iPhone.
If your iPhone still won't activate, I agree with gail, you will have to get in touch with that developer.

  • I just installed Yosemite, now I can't clear history without clearing cookies. how do I clear history and keep cookies?

I just installed Yosemite, now I can't clear history without clearing cookies. How do I clear  history and keep cookies?

I think you guys make a great point, I too don't like how my cookies are erased when I clear history and have to use the go around. Just a reminder and I'm sure you all know, this is a user to user forum and Apple may or may not get to see your opinion. I think you should let them know. You can leave them feedback at the following url. https://www.apple.com/feedback/safari.html
    Hope that helps,

  • I still have a problem clearing history and i did select time range to Everything

I still have a problem clearing history and i did select time range to "Everything". I tested using Internet explorer and I could clear the history there so its not a problem with the Xp secondary account. I even disabled the add ons in firefox and still get the same issue

sorry, scratch this, the first post did enable me to find a solution, it was the signon.sqlite file that had become corrupted.
As an interesting aside, this has also fixed the problem with using Xmarksspace which was giving me an "error 3" synchronising problem.
Apologies for the tone of my previous posting, you did provide the information that enabled me to find a solution, thank you and sorry.

I have exactly the same problem with my iPod touch 5. The Lovoo application hijacks me to the App Store constantly. It is a nightmare. This is disgusting.

Hi, I am loading music onto my z10 by just dragging dropping into the music folder on my sd card (about 4 gb music) and it is plugged into the usb, and I'm finding it is taking soo long (10 hours estimated already waited an hour) previously i loaded an even bigger file and it was long but never took this long (maybe took 2-3 hours previously). Just wondering why it takes soo long to write to an sd card as opposed to downloading from the internet or downloading over wifi or if there is something wrong with my setup (im running windows 7 with a decent laptop by 2 years ago standard), just hoping someone can comment on what they know or have experienced

A single large file when copying is faster than many smaller files on almost any SD card.

  • How do you reset Safari if Reset has been changed to 'Clear History and Website Data'

On my Macbook Pro, OS X 10.10.2, How can I reset Safari if the Reset has been replaced with 'Clear History and Website Data'

Hi feijoada (and hi Yang ,
The 'Form Values' file stores various autofill details - you didn't mention that file earier - did you also try moving that to the Desktop and retrying Safari to see if that was the problem? It can be found in the /Users/YourUsername/Library/Safari folder as well.

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
    "Clear the Cache":
*Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
