Clear resource usage counter on ACE module

Hi
Does anybody know how to clear the resource usage counter on an ACE module?
We use an ACE20-MOD-K2 with version A2(3.5).
Here you can see that after issuing 'clear stats resource-usage' the counters are still the same.

Or is it a bug eventually?
Thanks
Patrik

Hi Patrik,
What could one of the issue here is, if this box is in production and is being used, as soon as you clear the coutners, the new traffic is still flowing in, so ace will populate the new stats. if you take this box out of production then you should be able to see all the traffic gone.
Also to reinforce my previous argument, if you happen to see the stats second time, they are reduced , which will only point that the system is actively receiving and before you do a second show resource, it would have received some traffic and it will also take into account the existing traffic flow across the box.
Most likely not a Bug.

  • ACE - Clear Resource Usage Counters

Hi everyone.  I've tried clearing my resource usage counters several time by using both commands:
    clear stats resource-usage
    clear stats all
Neither work.  The resource usage counters remain the same.  Is there a workaround to this issue?  I would really like to see the counters over a specific period as opposed to since last reboot.

    Hi Tim
The clear stats resource-usage cmd only clear the stat for Peak and Denied counter.
I tested with A3(2.2) as below and it worked ok.

  • ACE ANM Resource Usage Graph Data Retention

Is there a way to get more than 30 days worth of data from the Resource Usage Graphs in ANM monitoring?

    Hi,
The max is one month. I don't know of any way to get more than that.

  • Cisco ACE module missing licence file - no connectivity

    Hi,
We have 2 ACE modules that were delivered without any licenses.
There is no IP connectivity whatsoever to these modules and I'm guessing this is due to the fact there are no licenses installed.
Have tried asking Cisco to no avail - and am not sure if there is an actual problem with them or not.
The VLANs are assigned correctly and I can see inbound ICMP echo from the 6509 that its hosted in, but no outbound packets ever leave the ACE. I've applied a mgmt policy to enable ping/telnet/ssh etc.

The ARP table for the adjacent switch SVI has a valid MAC upon reboot, but soon after resets to 00.00.00.00.00.00
Problem is that once Cisco eventually send me the license file I have no way of TFTP'ing it to the ACE module.
    Any suggestions/advice?

Thanks for the info - so I should at least be able to connect to a license-less ACE at least, but these modules seem to have a problem.
If the modules are reloaded (from the ACE) or reset (from the Supervisor) they initially have the ARP entry (however still cannot communicate to the attached Supervisor via SVI) which eventually resets.

  • Slow TCP performance for traffic routed by ACE module

    Hi,
the customer uses two ACE20 modules in active-standby mode. The ACE load-balances servers correctly. But there is a problem with communication between servers in the different ACE contexts. When the customer uses FTP from one server in one context to the other server in other context the throughput through ACE is about 23 Mbps. It is routed traffic in ACE:-(  See:

There is parameter map configured with rebalance persistant for cookie insertion in the context.
Do you know how can I increase performance for TCP traffic which is not load-balanced, but routed by ACE? Thank you very much.
    Roman

Default inactivity timeouts used by ACE are
    icmp 2sec
    tcp 3600sec
    udp 120sec
With your config you will change inactivity for every protocol to 7500sec.If you want to change TCP timeout to 7500sec and keep the
other inactivity timeouts as they are now use following
    parameter-map type connection GLOBAL-TCP
    set timeout inactivity 600
    parameter-map type connection GLOBAL-UDP
    set timeout inactivity 120
    parameter-map type connection GLOBAL-ICMP
    set timeout inactivity 2
    class-map match-all ALL-TCP
    match port tcp any
    class-map match-all ALL-UDP
    match port tcp any
    class-map match-all ALL-ICMP
    match port tcp any
    policy-map multi-match TIMEOUTS
    class ALL-TCP
    connection advanced GLOBAL-TCP
    class ALL-UDP
    connection advanced GLOBAL-UDP
    class ALL-TCP
    connection advanced GLOBAL-ICMP
    and apply service-policy TIMEOUTS globally

  • MAC-Miss Rate on ACE module

What exactly does the MAC-Miss rate mean on the ACE? And if we are running out of resources for it, should I worry?
We have only implemented 1 production policy on the ACE module so far and we are already running out of resources for the mac-miss rate. All other resources look good.
Is this OK? Or is something wrong here?
Attached is the resource usage counters.
    Thanks,
    Ben

When the ACE receives traffic for which it does not have an arp entry for either the source or destination, this is called a mac-miss and the fastpath agent needs to ask the slowpath agent to perform an arp request.
    This communication is rate-limited.
With no mac entry for a src or dst, we drop the packet.
So, you should increase the resource.
    Or review your design.
It's best to have the clients coming through a gateway (ie: the MSFC) instead of directly accessing the ACE.
This way only 1 mac entry is needed - the gateway.
You'll see a counter like this
    switch/Admin# sho np 1 me-stats "-socm -v" | i mac
Drop [mac lookup fail]: 4 0

  • Reuse of context in ACE module

Hi all, just have a question about som reuse of resources in a ACE module context.  I don't want to make a new context, and can reuse most of the existing configuration in one of my context.  The config is not complex and difficult, but I'm not sure if I can do this.
The primary goal is to loadbalance 2 webservers with a new vip, new serverfarm, stickygroup, policy-map and different nat-pool.
Since I haven't decided the ip addresses to be used, they are just xx in the config below.
The changes I want to implement are in bold.  Will this work for me?

  • Monitoring the Cisco ACE module with SNMP

We use 2 redundant Cisco ACE loadbalancer in our datacenter
The models are ACE20-MOD-K9 with software A2(2.0)
Does anybod know how to monitor the environment (cpu, memory) of such a module with snmp?
We were not able to find an applicable MIB for that module.
The CISCO-PROCESS-MIB.oid (ftp://ftp.cisco.com/pub/mibs/oid/CISCO-PROCESS-MIB.oid) seems not to reflect the correct oid's.
What are the correct oid's for cpu and memory?
Where can I find a detailed documentation for snmp-monitoring the cisco ace module?

  • Wr mem gives error on ACE module

    Hi,
I am not able to save the configuration on the ACE module.
    Admin# wr mem
    Generating configuration....
Error in generating running config..copy aborted
"Write memory failed for context Admin"
    Any help would be appriated.
    Thanks
    Neha

    Hi Neha,
Kindly check the current system resource usage for each context by entering the #show resource usage
    command .
If the resource usage percentage is high, the ACE is overloaded .
Use the copy running-config startup-config command instead of the write memory command. May be it can solve your issue for now.
Write back if it does not sovle your issue.

  • Show commands not showing - ACE module.

    Hello
After a few days of working fine the systems stopped answering SNMP and then the CLI began having problems with some commands. The easiest to see being "show running-config". At this point it shows nothing. It just waits and does nothing. I have to hit Ctrl-C to bring back the prompt.
The applications being balanced are working fine but the management is not.
The resources were allocated this way:
    resource-class ADMIN
    limit-resource all minimum 6.00 maximum equal-to-min
    resource-class CLA
limit-resource all minimum 46.00 maximum unlimited
    resource-class MAS
    limit-resource all minimum 24.00 maximum equal-to-min
    resource-class OL
    limit-resource all minimum 24.00 maximum equal-to-min
The version running is A2(1.3) and the same thing happened with an earlier release.
It's a HA scenario and the problem appeared so far only in the CLA context which was active on different modules and did the same on both. That was just a test to discard hardware problems.
One of the messages we saw was:
    ACE-CER/Admin# show resource usage summary
    Error: Called API timed out
We are unable to show resources, running-config, etc. for the active context CLA.
Do you have a suggestion? Is it healthy to allocate “unlimited” as the upper limit? Could this be the problem?
    Thanks a lot.
    Guido

    Gilles
If you mean a “get” for a probe, in this context I only have one and it's not that big. It goes like this:
    request method get url http://www.3x.6x.com/diario/hoy/index.html
On the other hand, in a different context I have nine of these:
    request method get url http://nap10.16x.int.6x.com/buscar/juguete
3x, 6x and 16x mean that amount of letters.
    Are these long enough?
To your knowledge, is this condition going to spread further and disrupt production traffic?
So once you have reached this condition whether caused by "gets" or not, would you recommend opening a TAC case?
    Thanks a lot!

  • ACE Module SNMP limits

I am monitoring an ACE module using snmp. The values returned from certain OIDs are graphed using Cacti. I found the 64 bit counters on interfaces for the ACE wrap at 10,000,000,000 instead of 2^64. Now that I have configured cacti to expect the wrap at 10 billion, I am concerned about the 32 bit counters. I am querying this snmp oid to get L7 connection counter
    cslbxStatsL7PolicyConns
    1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.254.1.1.1.1.8
Should I expect this counter to wrap at 2^32 or a lower value?

The maximum value for a 32bit OID should be 4294967296, I do have a value in my lab that is above 1 billion for that counter, so I wouldn't think there is an issue immediately. One common issue - when you clear stats manually, the counter will reset to 0. As well, I found an internal bug that that suggested some pocket case within the code could have cleared stats incorrectly, but it has never been seen since. There is a guess that someone logged into the test bed and cleared it without permission, but it was not able to be verified. Hence the bug was created to investigate the code, turned up nothing, and was junked accordingly.
What you might want to do is keep a sharp eye on the counter. When it looks like it rolls, login to the context you are polling and take a look at the accounting log. If you find that someone cleared the logging, that answers the question. If not - log a TAC case and we can replicate your exact configuration/code version in our lab to see if there what the deviation is that causes it to clear. A bug would be logged and fixed.

The license provides 5000 Maximum number of SSL transactions per second (TPS).
The customer would like to track this to find out the correct size and in the case of services https upgrade licenses.
Can I do it so through particular output or it's necessary monitoring with snmp service? In the second case, can you tell me the oid string to use?
In case the module should receive a higher number of connections to that provided by the license, what's the issue for new https connections?
    Regards
    Dino

    Hello Dino!
You can go into the Admin-Context and use sh resource usage all. Watch out for the ssl-connections rate. But I dont know the OID for this. But you can look into Cisco's MIB browser.
    Cheers,
    Marko

  • ACE Module throughput

    Hi
In the Datashhet of the ACE-Module (ACE20-MOD-K9) there is the following promise:
    Throughput
    16 Gbps*, 8 Gbps*, and 4 Gbps
We have a base license, so I assume we have a throughput of 4Gbps (gigabits per second).
Are these 4Gbps bidirectional or unidirectional?
Is it 2Gbps in one direction and 2Gbps in the other direction?
Imagine we have just 1 host (A) before the ACE module and just 1 host (B) behind the ACE module. Can I transfer data from A to B (unidirectional) with 4Gbps? Assume the hosts are connected with 10Gbps to the network and use multiple flows!
How can I measure the effective used bandwith on the ACE module?
What hapens, if host A tries to send data faster than 4Gbps? Does it deny single packets? Base on what? Does it deny additional sessions?
How do I know that the ACE runs at it's bandwith limitation?
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks
    Patrik

    Hi Patrik,
    See my answers inline:
We have a base license, so I assume we have a throughput of 4Gbps (gigabits per second). Are these 4Gbps bidirectional or unidirectional? Is it 2Gbps in one direction and 2Gbps in the other direction?
It measures the total throughput going through the box. It includes both directions. Also take into account that, for any traffic through the ACE, the packets are seen twice (client to ACE and ACE to server), so the effective throughput is half of the licensed one.
Imagine we have just 1 host (A) before the ACE module and just 1 host (B) behind the ACE module. Can I transfer data from A to B (unidirectional) with 4Gbps? Assume the hosts are connected with 10Gbps to the network and use multiple flows!
You could get up to 2Gbps unidirectional. This traffic will go through the ACE twice, adding to the 4Gbps license
How can I measure the effective used bandwith on the ACE module?
With the "show resource usage" command
What hapens, if host A tries to send data faster than 4Gbps? Does it deny single packets? Base on what? Does it deny additional sessions?
It will drop packets that go over the bandwidth without taking into account to which connection they belong
How do I know that the ACE runs at it's bandwith limitation?
    Again, "show resource usage"
    Regards
    Daniel

  • Simple SLB with the ACE Module

    Hello,
i have some problems with a ACE module i am currently tesing.
I have a simple Serverfarm with two Servers.
But there seems to be some Problems with the Loadbalancing i not understand:
    1) I use Round Robin, but the ACE seems to put me serval times to the same server. I notice this, because i have different content on both servers, also different URLs.
    2) withz the show serverfarm statement the total connects do not increment.
    switch/slb-c1# show serverfarm webfarm
    serverfarm : webfarm, type: HOST
    total rservers : 2

    real weight state current total

    rserver: web2
    10.0.33.200:0 8 OPERATIONAL 0 0
    switch/slb-c1# show service-policy L4_LB_VIP
    Status : ACTIVE
    Interface: vlan 300
    service-policy: L4_LB_VIP
    class: L4_VIP_CLASS
    loadbalance:
    L7 loadbalance policy: L7_SLB_POLICY

    VIP Route Advertise : DISABLED
    VIP ICMP Reply : ENABLED
    VIP State: INSERVICE
    curr conns : 0 , hit count : 15
    dropped conns : 0
client pkt count : 10198 , client byte count: 420991
server pkt count : 23367 , server byte count: 34915173
    I have attatched the Config.
Any Idea what is going on?

what version do you have ?
I would recommend to run the very recent A1.4.
This is something that really should work.
    Gilles.
