Clearcase integration

We have Jdeveloper 10.1.3 and clearcase 7 working together but there are a few things that are unexpected that I hope someone can explain.
1) When a pebl file is changed, it is automatically checked out. There is no dialog and the file is checked out unreserved. Is there a way to configure the this so that a reserved checkout is performed and there is a dialog?
2) When a pebl file is changed, this causes other files to be changed but these have not been checked out and so the save fails. Should this happen or should the tool changed files be automatically checked out?
Regards

1) It is not possible for the automatic checkout to display a dialog. As regards the reserved option, I've filed a bug to the effect that this behavior should be configurable in preferences.
2) I would expect the tool changed files to be automatically checked out when you attempt save them, but from what you're saying, that doesn't happen? What are the files in question (please give file types / extensions)?
Thanks,
Paul.

  • RoboHelp and ClearCase integration

    Hi,
Could anybody suggest me the steps or provide url on how to
    integrate RoboHelp with ClearCase?
    What i am looking for:
Open the RH project from ClearCase.
    Modify the files.
Save the modified project back to ClearCase
    Pls suggest...

I don't think "integration" is possible; perhaps "detente" is
the best to hope for. I'd run some tests with copies of your
project first, especially if multiple writers are involved. Also,
for a RoboHelp project, do not add the HHP, CPD, PSS, and LDB files
    to source control.
The process for any source control product is this:
    1) Your IT peeps assign licensed privileges to you.
    2) You create a directory in source control that will map to
    your project directory.
    3) You add your source files to source control.
    4) You check out files, edit them, and check them in.
    5) When you add files in your project, add them in source
    control.
    6) When you delete files in your project, you normally delete
    them from source control first.
    7) Generate your output to an entirely different directory
(not the default !SSL! directory under the project). Actually, I
recommend this whether using source control or not!
    Good luck,
    Leon

  • JDeveloper - ClearCase integration

Can someone tell me if it is possible to have Jdeveloper 10.1.2 working with ClearCase 2003?
And if not, can you tell me when it will be supported?
    TIA.

    Hi,
Michael, can you let me know which topic referred to "4.0 or greater"? This is misleading: JDeveloper only supports 4.x and not yet 5.0. The error message you are seeing is unfortunately also misleading (and has subsequently been fixed).
Ramanathan, you're probably seeing this error because one of the files in your project (possibly the project file itself) is not in a view storage directory on a clearcase drive. Again the error message has been improved in the 9.0.3 release to be more specific. Check the paths of each file in your project and check they are all in a view storage directory.
    Thanks,
    Brian
JDev Team Any update on native support for CC 5.0 yet ? This is a very
    disappointing letdown with JDeveloper.
We're using the version 9.0.2.829 and getting the PATH error
mentioned above. I assume this is still the same problem ?
It really doesn't make any sense why CC 5.0 breaks the
integration unless someone wrote code to check the version and
then bail. Document the expected / supported / tested
configuration however you like, but don't explicitly prohibit
things that probably would work anyhow.

  • Clearcase and JDeveloper integration

    Hi,
Iam working on integrating ClearCase with JDeveloper. I want to check in and check out files from the IDE directly. But during the process I encountered the following error. Any help is much appreciated.
    Tried the following:
    1. Downloaded/updated the clearcase plugin from the Help-->Check for updates link.
    2. Restarted Jdev IDE and was able to see clearcase menuitems (Versioning>>Connect to clearcase,Check In,Check Out etc)
    3. On clicking Connect to clearcase, I received the following error
"ClearCase executable (cleartool) is not installed or not located in your system environment path".
Is this expecting a Remote Clearcase Client executable?

    Thanks for the information.
Can you clarify me one point? - In this case , Is a remote clearcaseclient is required?? or I should have clearcase installed in my machine to do this Jdev/clearcase integration?

  • Clearcase and Jdeveloper

Hi, I have installed the clearcase extensions 11.1.1.1.33.54.07 and 10.1.3.42.70 on jdeveloper 11.1.1.1.0 and 10.1.3.4.0.4270 respectively. In both cases I am getting the following error "ClearCase executable (cleartool) is not installed or not located in your system environment path."
I have clearcase remote client version 7.1.0 installed in my windows pc. This kicked off "C:\Program Files\IBM\RationalSDLC\clearcase\RemoteClient\ccrc.exe". What do i have do to make this work? Is this version of remote client ie. 7.1 supported with Jdeveloper? If not when do we expect this to be supported? Is there an unofficial way to make this work if it's not supported?
    Thanks

  • How do I use Perforce Source Control on a substituted drive

    Hello all,
I am wrestling my way through using perforce as an integrated source control package in Labview.
The path has many potholes but seems possible.
    My latest challenge:
    Substituted Paths.
In a professional source control environment there are many users with many views/workspaces and it is good proactice for each one to have a unique name [user][machine][branchname][myprojectstructure]
Labview is notorious for requiring fixed, absolute paths due to the way .vi's remember their callers, my previous practice using IBM/Rational clearcase was to substitue ("subst B: ." ) the project root [myprojectstructure] to another drive, say B: for example.  This makes Labview is happy as the paths are now fixed, the developer is happy as they don't have to check out a miriad of files.
This practice is widespread in the embedded software development world and isn't exactly innovative.
    Perforce
Clearcase integrated into Labview works seamlessly, you just point the path to the substituted drive and all is well.
    Perforce, not so much.
The setup options within labview whilst being intuitive and easy to use, don't appear allow this method.
Does anyone know how to do the equivalent in Perforce?
    Thanks in advance,
    Tim L.

    Thanks John,
I will see if this works
I hadn't thought about substituting the drive first and then populating the workspace.
I can see that this implimentation requires discipline,
There is a significant danger of refreshing the wrong workspace and trashing modified files.

  • Any timeline for 9.0.5?

My apologies for bringing this up, but we are getting to a point on a large project where we have to decide if we continue along the JDeveloper path, or drop support on our current licenses and move to another development platform.
One of the big pro arguments I was making this summer was the kinds of features being promised as part of the 9.0.5 JDeveloper release. It was my assumption based on the demos given at OpenWorld that at least the preview version would be out in time for us to make an informed decision. That is looking increasingly unlikely, and I'd be interested in anything that folks at Oracle can say about when at least the preview edition will be available?
Your assistance in this area is appreciated.

Can you provide more information about the
issues you're experiencing with ClearCase integration
in 9.0.3? Specifically, if the VOB sends back any message whatsoever, JDeveloper gets confused, and the developer must reboot their machine. This has meant that we have had to make sure any scripts that would normally return a message (such as, "You forgot to include a mandatory comment") have the message stripped. So in a mixed development environment (ourself and our clients), you have to make sure your ClearCase scripts are one way for non JDev and another for everyone else.
Of course we also have had to stay a release behind the current CC release since JDeveloper doesn't recognize the most recent version of CC.
Also, when you mention "corruption" is this referring
to ClearCase or Oracle SCM?Oracle SCM.
    Can you be specific about
the behavior you're seeing? I'm not aware of any
currently open issues that lead to any kind of
corruption with Oracle SCM: any such issues would be
fixed with some rapidity, but we have to be aware of
them first.Would direct you to the Oracle Designer forum where I believe a number of discussions detailing different ways that SCM gets "confused" are still active. We have seen most of those and so quickly swore off SCM as a solution. If you're saying all of those have been fixed, then we'd be happy to hear what patch, etc.
I would also agree with the other poster that the GUI Builder in 9.0.3 is suboptimal. While we haven't gone as far as to go with Flash MX (though I find the idea appealing), we have pretty much restricted our use of JDev to this point as a BC4J development tool only. I had hoped the new GUI Builder in 9.0.5 would give us reason to go back to a more integrated tool setup, but since 9.0.5 isn't actually available...
In our case it's probably moot. We have to deliver our prototype and our recommendation by the end of the month. I'm gathering 9.0.5 not only won't be available, but that a timeframe for it won't be published by then either. But I would hope that for the sake of others reading here there might be some progress.
    FWIW,
    Ewan

  • Which IDE should I use integrated with the Rational ClearCase?

Im starting a new project and will usethe Rational ClearCase as version controller.. and I need to use an IDE.
    which is your IDE?
Eclipse? is there anythiong better? much better?

I use JCreator Pro. It is written in C++ so very fast, and is inexpensive for the features you get (http://www.jcreator.com).
It does not have native support for clearcase etc, but it does have a number of custom defined tool buttons, so you could create a tool button to execute a cvs command line statement.
I've used many IDE's and personally I think JCreator beats them all.

  • Version Control with Clearcase

Will anybody tell me how to use clearcase for version control with Jdeveloper? I use clearcase for version control and Jdeveloper as IDE. What are the configuration changes to be made to link jdeloper IDE to clearcase repository so that I can checkout files from clear case directly to Jdev IDE and check them in directly to clear case version control repository.

    Hi Srinivas,
Integrated support for Clearcase is coming in a future version of JDeveloper.
In the meantime, you can use the checkin/checkout custom addin to drive clearcase.
Download the custom addins package from:
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/jdev/info/CustomAddins.31/CustomAddinsJD31.zip
    Then have a look at
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/jdev/info/CustomAddins.31/CustomAddins.html#CheckOutIn.Java
for instructions. You will need to alter CheckIn.bat to change the following line:
    put -S+_V -U %1
    to
    cleartool ci -nc -identical %1
And alter CheckOut.bat to change the following line:
    get -l -Q -S+_V %1
    to
    cleartool co -nc -reserved %1

  • Configuring ClearCase for LV8

    Hi,
I am trying to configure ClearCase to run with LV8. I have setup and
multiple different SCC programs (PVCS, VSS, Perforce, etc.) with LV8
but cannot figure out how to configure the directory and the project
    for ClearCase.
Do I need to create a Project VOB or just a Project View? If I just
have a Base View is it possible to link ClearCase to LV?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Randy

    Hello Again,
    RGSchmidt wrote:
Thanks for input but I want to integrate CC with LV.
The developers are not following the rules with seperately running apps so I need to force the issue. We have been creating and using Views for a long time. LV does not work with a VOB only a PVOB.
Any help in integrating the 2 would be greatly appreciated.
I felt sure this was incorrect;  a PVOB
only has real meaning to ClearCase UCM and if a PVOB was needed then anybody
using Base ClearCase (a far better way of working) would be unable to integrate
    LV and ClearCase.
So I download the LabView 8.2.1 evaluation copy,
installed it and started it up,  configured ClearCase as the source control
system and it worked first time with no PVOB and
no problems. I only have ClearCase VOBs as I hate UCM. :-)
    I can checkout,
checkin, see the VI history (ClearCase history that is).  There a quite a number
of things you cannot do with the integration and as such will still often want
to use the ClearCase explorer to be able to work.
    The only
reference to UCM in the whole thing was an option in the Advance Settings
window. In the Source Control Panel
setting (LabView options), there is an advance button next to the "Source
control provider name", in this Advance window under operations there is an
option "Always prompt for an activity when working in a view of a ClearCase
Project." that is an obvious reference to a UCM activity, but even with that
still ticked Base ClearCase works fine.
    My system is
    Base ClearCase
    (not UCM)
    VOB and View
server are running on a Sun system
    Client is on a
    Windows XP box.
    Steps I took
    (assumes familiar with ClearCase terms)
    LV
        LV Source
Control Panel   --- Source Control Provider Name -- ClearCase   --- all options
    can be left as default.
    ClearCase
    Using a normal VOB
    --  called ATS.
    I have a number of
    ClearCase already views created.
    The Views need to
be controlled vi ClearCase NOT LV,  use ClearCase explorer or Homebase or
command line to create your views as you normally do.
    Ensure that your
VOB is mounted (use ClearCase explorer)
    Ensure your view
have started and has been mounted. For example my view dannyt-test is mounted to
    drive P:
    Navigate to your
LabView VI's within ClearCase vi the View mount point - so
    P:\ATS\LVProject\
    Open your VI, now
the  in Tools -> source Control -> you can checkin / checkout the
    VI.
    I have not tried
using the View extended pathname method, but I would expect that to work as
    well.
    As somebody who
has worked as a build release manager and ClearCase administrator I would not
expect the level of integration of LabView and ClearCase to solve your
    problem
    Getting developers
to follow rule  needs to be done with training, encouragement,  ClearCase
triggers and a good source control process that is both clear and workable. The
final item is a very large stick :-)
What part specifically is not working for you ?  do you have any error messages ?
    good
    luck
    cheers
