Clearing batch capture

How do I clear the Batch capture Queue?
Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   FCP 5.1

I usually just do a single clip with batch capture so when I abort, it's over. For those who have just tuned in, Jim goes thru his material and laboriously logs each shot he thinks he's going to use and then batch captures. I mark an out at the end of the tape, rewind, mark an in at the beginning with sufficient preroll, log the clip and batch capture the entire tape (of course with abort clip on dropped frames and make new clip on timecode break). After capturing if it's dv material, I do a start/stop detect. And then I do a thorough job of logging and labelling.

  • Batch Capture - clearing list

I lined up some clips to capture, then decided not to and changed tapes. However everytime I want to do a batch capture, all the old in and out points of the removed tapes come up and FCP tries to capture. Is there any way I can clear this list?
    Thanks!

You must give each tape you log a unique tape number. That will tell FCP what to look at when you want to batch.
If you have not done this, Try creating a new bin in the browser and drag the clips you want to capture to it. Then set this bin as the logging bin (control click on the bin and choose from drop list)
I believe you can also click on the reel name column in the browser and change the reel name for footage that you have logged and, or captured.

  • Help with Batch Capturing, Timecode Issues?

Hi Final Cut Pro Pro's. I've just come over from Avid.
I have a problem with capturing - I have a lot of tapes to capture and there is no way I will make deadline doing it by individual capture - I need to batch capture. My tape shows no timecode breaks and I have already spent hours logging all the various clips. It shows it has registered all of the media start/end timecodes, but when I click on batch capture, it says
BATCH CAPTURE: TIMECODE ERROR: UNABLE TO LOCATE THE SPECIFIED TIMECODE. YOU MAY HAVE SPECIFIED A TIMECODE WITH INSUFFICIENT ROOM FOR A PRE/POST ROLL OPERATION.
I don't understand as there is clearly a functioning timecode? This is going to break my balls if I have to go through this individually, no time! Anyone? Any ideas?
    Thank you.

I'm capturing from the camera directly, a Sony DSR-250...
It turns out that yes, if you have marked the in/out point too close to the head or the tail of the tape, or even if you have marked it okay and are currently at the start/end of tape when pressing on batch capture it cannot send the command to the device. If you move forward or backward accordingly by five or six seconds it doesn't come up anymore.
Thanks for all the responses, I'm going to make deadline now. Apple forums are my hot hot S€X.

  • Batch Capture - Ingesting Footage of a Public Hearing

I have a unique video verité project and I'm trying a unique approach to the Log and Capture process for it, and I'm asking for a little advice...
On Thursday, I was recruited to record a nearly-five-hours-long public meeting at which over 150 people spoke. (1,200 in attendance) Fortunately, the meeting had a pro-grade P.A. system, and the hosts offered a box to plug in for audio pick ups on the P.A., so I used my wireless mic system to feed the speakers' voices directly into my new Canon Vixia HV 40 camcorder; I recorded the whole thing in HDV onto 5 tapes. The audio was clear as a bell. This project has a vaguely C-SPAN feel to it.
Now comes the challenge. This was a non-stop, live-on-tape meeting. The only time I stopped was the switch to newer cassettes. The organization I am helping asked me to find a way to ingest this footage as quickly as possible, figure out how to get it onto regular DVD media, and ship it out to a couple of volunteer organizations so that people can digest the proceedings and get organized for future plans. There is no time for frills or FX or anything but a plain brown wrapper on these DVDs.
I switched my HV 40 over to output down-converted DV streams. I started up Final Cut Pro 7 (I previously used FCP 4.5 on other projects) and got the log-and-capture process going. One thing I noticed during the Log and Capture process on the first tape:
I decided to Log the video using the Batch Capture process. All five 60 minute tapes have been thoroughly logged now. I wanted to use Batch Capture so that it would be easier to isolate individual speakers by clip if necessary; I logged consecutive back-to-back clips of four speakers apiece on each of the tapes, each tape is logged to a different logging bin for better organization. (The logged clips are each typically 8 minutes duration.) I intend to make sequences in Final Cut, each sequence will be a different DVD disc (Disc 1 of 3, for example) and I will insert the clips consecutively into the Timeline to form a complete show.
During the Logging process, I noticed something odd: doing everything on the fly, one clip will end on a specific frame and the next logged clip will begin on the very same frame as the previous clip ended. Shouldn't consecutively logged-on-the-fly clips with an end point followed by the beginning of the next clip on the next frame afterwards? Should I adjust the clip frame-times in the Browser by offsetting them by one frame to make them flow properly?
    Thanks in advance,
    --WA
[NOTE: 5 tapes used, 5 logging bins logged, meeting was just over 4.5 hours in length.]

Since saving time is essential in this case, I would have logged each tape as one clip, captured that tape and move on to the next. Drop two full clips in one Sequence for DVD 1, play out the Timeline to a stand-alone DVD recorder in real time, and move on to the next one.
Once they had their 'no frills' DVDs, you could then go back and make subclips of each speaker if needed.

  • Cs3: batch capture in/out edits incorrect

OK - heres my problem. I have a hdv project which i captured dv files. Ive edited these in the timeline and now want to offline and batch capture as hdv. When i do this however many of the clips appear incorrectly on the timeline. they are slightly off the edits i made - starting several frames before where i made the cut.
To test it wasn't an error having dv clips in a hdv project i set up a dv project and captured some dv footage. Did some edits on the timeline ( not the program window ) then exported this section, imported it and placed above the edited section on the timeline( so i could use as a comparison ). I then right clicked the captured footage in the project panel - make offline, media files deleted. Then right clicked the captured footage in the project panel - batch capture and captured the footage again. When i compared the footage in the timeline against the saved export the edits were out of sync.
Not sure if this is at all clear an explanation but heres hoping.
Many thanks in advance if anyone has any suggestions

Hi Stan, thanks for the response. I'm sure your description is clear but ive been at this for 20 hours straight so pardon if i am confused. The hdv export has a matching picture/timecode with the Sony FX1E . ie the Premiere Source window of the file shows the same image at the same timecode as the camcorder viewfinder. Premiere is importing the right section. Well what it thinks is the right section. However this is not the section that was on the original timeline -  i can see this by referring to the exported avi i now have on a layer which i use as a reference. I need to check to see if the dv file has the same in/out as the hdv. will need to test on other footage as previously i deleted the files on batch capture.
Am i following your suggestion correctly?
Another strange thing happened. I gave edl a go - exported from the project with dv. created a new hdv project and imported the list. Batch captured and still had the same problem - some match some dont. However i transferred to another pc and the same files which were matched on my laptiop were now not matched! How can this be? All i did was transfer the external hard drive ( scratch disc ) to a different pc , hooked the ppro file to them and more unmatching.

  • Batch capturing

I log the clips after setting an in point and an out point.
When the clip appears on my project folder it has different In points and Out points.
I then have to correct the fault and relog the clip offline.
    It then works.
    Is this normal?
What is the cause of it?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Many thanks.

This is often a user error in misunderstanding the difference between in points and media start points. But your post isn't clear. Do you mean the media is captured incorrectly and then you make corrections? Or do you make corrections first? Has ti worked before? How far off are the marks? Are they consistent? How have you determined this is a problem with the application and not just incorrect setup or data entry on your part?
No., it's not normal at all. Batch capture works very well and, in the instances where it doesn't, it is almost always caused a by a simple user error.

  • Help w/ batch capture?

    Hey guys,
Just finished a shoot in the city this arvo. Got back to log and capture and have run into a short problem.
I've logged all my clips, about 25 minutes worth, broken up into 7 seperate clips. The footage from today was recorded onto the second half of a 60-min tape. I shot 10 seconds of nothingness before todays shoot to give me a good buffer for batch pre-roll. The problem is, even if I try to batch capture starting at a point (let's say 2:00;00 in, for hypothetical), the camera insists on returning to the very beginning of the tape. So, because I have a timecode break, and theoretically 2 different 2:00;00 timecodes, I've run into trouble.
Question is, is there a setting in capture settings that will make it not continue past my broken timecode. ie, I want to stay on this side of the break and not jump to that side! haha.
Hope I was clear enough. If it makes any difference, I'm using a Sony Z1P for capture purposes.
    Thanks, Josh

I thought Final Cut renames reels automatically when it detects broken timecode. No? At least this is standard behavior on my machine and I find it very useful. (I might have set it up myself without even knowing it - there are way too many settings in different menus.)
Edit: I use "Capture Now" and seldom "Log and Capture" because my clients prefer to have all their footage on the hard drive. Probably when you do it in a proper way and log clips first, you do have to change the reel name manually.

  • Unable to locate timecode in batch capture

Hi there, I have been working on this problem for a while and would really appreciate some help.
I have a documentary project I have been working on for some time and have completed the EDL. I am now trying to batch capture the footage again in full res and am having problems with a couple of the tapes.
    First the specs:
The video was shot on a Sony HDR-HC1 in HDV(1080) mode.
I am using this camera to capture the footage.
I am trying to recapture the footage in a sequence with the easy setting on HDV1080i50.
I had originally captured the footage in SD on an older version of final cut pro (I am now working with FCP6) and didn't realise that my 16:9 footage was actually all 4:3 letterboxed. To fix this problem I used the media manager to export and then in the new project batch capture all the footage again from the tape. The project uses 18 tapes, 16 of which were batch digitised with only minor troubleshooting required. However 2 of the tapes are proving to be very problematic. It seems that whatever clip I select on the tape it gives me a message saying "unable to locate timecode".
I have tried setting the tape to the exact location of the clip before selecting the batch capture, but the computer always seems to look for a spot which is 2-3 mins out of sync with the clip. For example, if the in point is 00:10:00:00 the computer will roll the tape to around the 00:12:00:00 mark and start jogging around there for about 30 seconds until eventually giving me the "unable to locate timecode" message. Looking in the information in the bins, the in and out points are accurate, its just that when I try to capture, the computer rolls the tape to the wrong position.
If anyone knows a workaround for this that will help me avoid having to edit the footage all over again I will be extremely grateful.
    Thanks
    Liam

HI I have the same problem, the capture window says: Waiting for time code, the device must set in vcr mode and then This operation could not be complete as there is no video, the F!#!%$$ problem is very illogical ,at this mooring I do batch capture without a problem but since the second tape this problem starting, I update to FCP 6.0.4 and,. @@#%#@%#$ the first tape capture but the second not capture and the problem starting againd, note that IMOVIE capture the tape and work very well, iI replace fire wire, camera VCR and , I trayu with Canon, Sony, JVC and the problem persist , I have quicktime 7.4.5, FCO 6.0.4, note that I have two Macs with the same problem in both macs IMOVIE work like a PRO edition Software but FCP is very bad, I have with this problem a long time, I formated Mac, reinstall FCS2 many timers and the problem persist. IS not a problem whit easy setup or wherever , I download the FireWire SDK from Apple and test all connection with the applications of sdk and in all case , the camera and the fire wire are OK, the problem is with quicktime and FCP, If any one is working OK with FCP and DV NTSC devices and JVC PRO HD devices, please tell us HOW DO. I'm working with FCP since 2000 and in this month FCP makes me very UNHAPPY.

When I set for batch capture by creating off-line clips using the "Log Clip" option the off-line clip shows audio as
32KHZ 16-bit  everyting else is correct as project settings.
Just prior to creating the off-line batch capture clip I had sucessfully captured from the same device using the same tape shot with the above settings including 48khz 16-bit audio by using standard " Capture" by setting in & out then clicking Capture>In/Out.
I've looked at capture settings etc...unable to determine to change audio settings etc or why the audio settings under batch capture do not conform to project settings...
    Any ideas?
    Tnx,
    mick

    Thanks for your reply, Harm....
Well now...having negated all the possibilities you listed, I decided to do a an actual batch capture with clips which I previously logged which reported audio at 32kHz instead of the project setting of 48kHz:
    1. two clips  were selected from the same device/tape ( both selected from the logging util which erroneously reported audio at 32kHz) for the batch
    2. both clips captured "flawlessly"
    3. both clips after the batch capture then reported audio as being 48kHz
Btw, I also did a batch capture from the same device/tape in Pr 6.x...and it reported and captured at 48khz...I must say, I must prefer the legacy version of Pr 6 for batch capture which creates a log .pbl file which can then be easily exported as a csv to and .xls etc..IMO, much more useful...and useable..
    Mi dos pesos(.002US)
So it would appear there is some kind of bug in the Pr cs4 batch capture util that is erroneously reporting audio settings?
Should this go to the devel as a possible bug?
    Tnx,
    mick

  • Unable to batch capture with Premiere Pro CC via Kona LHi

AJA's web site claims Premiere Pro CC is compatible with the Kona LHi card, but I can't get the two to work together properly. After repeated tries, I uninstalled and reinstalled everything AJA, but still no luck.
I need to batch capture DV clips from some mini-DV tapes on my Sony MVR035U tape deck.  But I also need to upconvert them from 480i to 720p60 using my Kona Lhi card. I should be able to do this with Premiere Pro CC. But the PPCC Capture window won't give me any audio feedback when I select "AJA Movie Capture" in the Capture Settings pull down menu. I only get audio feedback when I enable "DV capture" but then I'm no longer able to upconvert.
Looking forward to any feedback on this issue. Been tying all day to trouble shoot this problem.

  • "No Video" error when Batch Capturing

I am getting a new error that I have not seen before when using Batch Capture in FCP. It cues the tape, starts the pre-roll and then spits out an error message that there is "no video". Of course, there is video.
The same thing does not happen when capturing one clip at a time nor does it happen if you capture live (hitting Capture "Now" in L&C window).
    Any thoughts?

I also don't want to keep paying $23 a month for software that is not 100%.
Software as complex as Premiere Pro will never be 100% bug free.
I'm also inclined to believe this is more of a system issue than a PP issue.  I don't recall other reports of this nature, and it works fine on my own system.
The only other thing I can think of to suggest is another FireWire port, possibly by adding a FireWire card to the system.  I've read that the chip makes a difference, so research over in the Hardware forum.

  • Help!  Batch Capture Changes My Logged Clips' Media Start & Media End

I'd be very grateful for any help on this.
I log a tape with about 40 clips ranging from 30 seconds to 4 minutes. I select the clips and start a batch capture. Everything appears to be capturing normally and I receive no error messages or dropped frame warnings - after my last clip is captured I get a "Successfully Captured" message.
However, as soon as I click "Finished," all of my clip media start's, media end's, and durations in the log window arbitrarily change to weird times. All my media start points are 26 frames too early (I've tripple-checked that "Add Handles" is indeed deactivated), and the media end points make no sense at all.
A clip that was once 44 seconds long is now only 12 seconds long, the media end point moved a whopping 34:03 too early. Another clip will become 2 seconds longer, the media start point still shifted back 26 frames, but with the media end now 31 frames too late. Checking the original files on my drive confirms that only these weird, unusable segments are what has been captured.
What complicates things is that I just discovered today that if I capture locally to my internal hard disk, the clips capture normally (the times remain unchanged). But if I set my capture scratch to my external hard drive (a LaCie F800 2-TB RAID-5 using Firewire-800), that's when the clips start changing themselves. I ran disk utility and found no errors on the drive, and have never had a problem with it or any part of my configuration until the last month or so... the only changes to my system being the regular use of Software Update.
On top of that, my colleague is experiencing a similar problem with batch capture changing his clip times, even though he is using a different computer (single-processor G5), a different video deck (Sony DHR-1000), and a different storage medium (Apple Xserve RAID).
So my question is: What is happening! The only thing I can think of is that perhaps some update has a bug - but I can't find anyone with a similar problem online.
Any help on this would be extremely appreciated! Thank you in advance for your advice.
    Dual 2.3GHz PowerPC G5 Mac OS X (10.4.4) Deck: JVC CU-VH1 / Storage: LaCie F800 2-TB RAID-5
    Dual 2.3GHz PowerPC G5 Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Here's an update on this. Both my colleague and I have confirmed that if we capture to an internal or external drive that is not a RAID FCPro batch captures just fine.
But, if the drive we are capturing to is a RAID (in my case a LaCie Biggest F800 and his case an Apple Xserve), then we get dropped frame reports and/or clip in's and out's changing after the batch capture is complete.
We even tried reformatting one of the xServe's and rebuilding it as non-journaled, it didn't solve the problem.
It seems impossible that we're the only ones to be experiencing this problem... does anybody have any help or suggestions!?

  • Batch capture problem

I'm trying to batch capture my clips, so i logged them all but when i select them all and choose batch capture an error comes up after a while and says "end of tape reached". The only footage i have on my tape goes from the beginning of the tape to about three minutes in. Can someone please help me here.
    thanks,
    Paul

Don't know if you are still looking for a solution to this but...
You most likely set your in point very near the first code on the tape. FCP needs to roll back a few seconds, before the in point, in order to ensure the deck gets up to speed before the capture begins. If it rolls back and can find not code before your in point, things get confused and FCP will not do the capture. This is also why, when shooting, you should always roll at least 5 seconds before the action starts.
Try moving the in point forward at least seconds.

  • Batch Capture is saying total media time of 3 hours 27 mins...

    ... for a 23 minute show.
I have collapsed the multi clips, gone to media manager, deselected include non active angles, choose to delete unused media with handles of 1 sec. Why is it still saying it needs 3 hours 27 mins? Please if anyone can help I'd be grateful.
This software is useless and I am sorry for sounding off, its not the place to do it but seriously I am in a broadcast environment and I am beginning to look stupid in front of my client.

The reason for that could be that you select everything in timeline and browser , try to select just the original clip before you made it a multi clip. Final cut some how calculates everything as soon a clip is a multi-clip or on the timeline the batch capture select the entire video.
I had the same problem, but then i just selected my original clip and it worked out fine. I only had some problems with the multi clip but apparently 6.0.3 fixed that ( not sure)

  • Batch Capture Error: Timecode Error: End of Tape Reached

I have been having issues doing batch capture with my JVC VS30U. I logged all my clips on the fly and did the entire tape, so the OUT point of one clip is the same as the IN point of the next clip. When I attempt to batch capture it gives this error between every clip.
I have to hit retry, sometimes more than once, in order for the deck to properly cue and FCP to start the digitize. I don't know if this is a weird pre-roll issue, or something else, but it completely defeats the purpose of a batch if I have to sit here and hit retry after each clip.
There are no TC breaks, and obviously its not really the end of the tape. I've read where people have similar problems, but didn't find a solution. Have already trashed prefs, but to no avail. Using FCP 5.0.4 with OS 10.4.3 and said JVC deck via firewire.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

I don't know the deck but a simple test would be to move a couple of i/o points so they are not adjacent. Or test with a single, longer clip and break it up into subclips.
Tell us what you've tried so we don't waster your time and ours with fruitless suggestions.
Errors displayed by FCP are usually irrelevant and rarely helpful.
