Clickable hotspots or tooltips on videos; interactive videos.

Hello all,
Forgive me if I'm posting this in the wrong forum. I'd like to know if what I'm proposing has been done before, and if so what some of the examples look like.
My idea is to embed clickable hotspots over a video. For example, we have a shot of a truck rolling down the highway. As it continues driving, different hotspots pop up over various parts of the truck, like axles, transmission, engines, etc. These hotspots can then be clickable, and a small tooltip/bubble pops up with a description about that part. As the video continues playing, different hotspots continue to be generated and available.
I've been poking around all over the web looking for either examples or programs that enable the effect. I've found that most "interactive videos" are based around two premises: shopping from within the video and pick your own storyline. Neither of which is necessarily what I'm looking for, so I've begun thinking that this might an After Effects/Flash based affair. I can use After Effects to generate the tooltips or 3D overlays of the various parts onto the original video, and use Flash to generate the approriate interaction.
As this video will be web based, my final idea was to run the video underneath a layer of code that generated both the sprites and the effects. The problem there is setting up the scripts so that they are timed perfectly with the video.
Any thoughts? If this isn't the place for this, could someone point out where I can get some insight? Much appreciated in advance!
Cheers.
D.

Hey D.
Read your recent question looking for examples of interactive video that looked at other user cases rather than the usual shoppable and choose your own adventure videos.
Thought you might be interested in having a look at wireWAX (www.wirewax.com). We started out much like you creating overlays and doing tracking in After Effects and then using Flash to apply the interaction.
wireWAX has since developed into an online tool that allows anyone one from the most techy creative like yourself, to the basic YouTuber, upload their own videos to the wireWAX studio. From there users can add their own tags to objects and people which are then tracked using our super intelligent tracking system ready for you to add your own overlays or choose from a range of widgets such as YouTube and Facebook. The platform now uses much more advanced image processing to do things like face detection and motion tracking in real-time and works across mobile and tablet too.
OK, sales pitch over, please do have a go. You can simply drop a video into the dropbox on the homepage and use the free tool to add interaction. We also work with brands/producers/filmmakers to create customized experiences on a paid-for service.
Here are a few examples of some videos you might find useful:
National Portrait Gallery Walkthrough
This video was created by one of our users using the free wireWAX tool. It allows viewers to click on pieces of the artwork to get more information either through a short text description or video in video interview with the curator.

BBC News
The BBC developed this engaging interactive experience to coincide with the anniversary of the Deepwater Horizon disaster. Viewers could learn more about the ongoing impact and explore extra content clicking on the hotspots that interested them.

BBC One Luther
The BBC’s 2nd interactive wireWAX video was a trailer for their crime drama Luther. It included exclusive clips and unseen treats in a fitting stylised tag and overlay for the programme.

Adidas Messi gallery
A customised overlay for Adidas who created this clickable walk through using wireWax to allow Messi fans to click on memorabilia to discover more.

There’s also plenty of shoppable examples on our site too.

  • How to make interactive video in Flash?

    Hello,
We are trying to create an interactive video in Flash. Basically, we need to put this video in our game, and players should be able to pause/replay/play it.
I found some tutorial about this topic, but all of them were created more than 2 years ago. They all use FLV/F4V files.
But now, Adobe Media Encoder doesn't support exporting FLV file.
As what mentioned in this page:
removal of FLV and F4V export features from Adobe Media Encoder, After Effects, and Premiere Pro | After Effects regio…
Flash team seems recommend users to input mp4. video rather than FLA video.
So is that mean we can use mp4 file to do interactive video, adding Action Script on the importing mp4. video?
    Thank you.

either use mp4 files or use an older ame.

  • Interactive video

Hi,  I am an amateur at this and need some help.
I am using Flash CS4. I want to make an interactive video, in which there is one sound file playing throughout but using buttons over the video the user can change the video angle.
I was thinking having 3 different videos on separate layers with buttons that bring different layers to the front.
Would this work? could anyone instuct me further? any help would be greatly appreciated!
    best.

    Any ideas?

  • Interactive videos

I am interested in making interactive videos and distributing them on different platforms (computer download, tablets, smartphones). What software package(s) would be best for me? Would an interactive video created with the adobe package(s) work on all operating systems?

Interactive features I am looking to put into the video are:
    1) The user can press a word or picture in the presentation and get a box come up with information and/or get sent to a new screen to start off an animation.
    2) The user can drag and drop answers into spaces provided.
    3) Additional things that might be good would be mini quizes such as word searches, crosswords.
I've hyperlinked presenations before using powerpoint so I know linking to a new screen can be done with hyperlinks in powerpoint. I am not sure about 2) and 3). I would do the interactivity as part of a website if the software that was easiest to use didn't provide a format that would work on multiple platforms, that way I could test whether people like it and then I would be more comfortable paying a coder to make it avaliable across multiple platforms.
Any ideas as to how to do 2) and maybe 3).  I would be interested in the best software for website use that doesn't take much time to learn (I am not great at coding). Software I have already that might helpful inc; photoshop/premiere elements 12 and powerpoint 2013. If I am only doing website presentations I know 1) is possible but is 2) with those? If its possible do I need any software to polish the presentation (e.g. something to make it run smoothly on the web)?

  • Interactive video presentation no flash

    Hello everybody,
I am a Visualization Artist and I used  to work long time ago doing website(I am a graphic designer too)  I been aproached by an old client asking me to develop a "Interactive video presentation" of a product for Engineering purposes.
The final output should be Web and CD to be used a promotional media.
My first option was Flash but he questioned that because he want people that uses Ipad and other tables be able to see in a web interfase.
The main idea is play a short video demostrating the produc and funcionality, then the user should be able to stop and play repeat a chapter or jump to other charpter of the presentation.
I own Creative cloud and some 3D softwares so I think I should be fine software wise, but my question is if there is something New in Adobe that I can use instead of Flash to produce something like this?
Can I do everything at once or I need to prepare a video for Web in Flash an other for a CD and some App for tablets everything separated?
any gidance will be much apreciated.

This may not be the most efficient way to do this, but you could have the mouse click incriment a counter, and on the last frame of the loop have a statement basically saying if the counter is greater than 0, then play the second loop, and set up another mouse event to incriment a second counter if loop2 is playing, so on and so forth.  Not exactly sure how you're planning to organize this, and what version of actionscript you plan on using so I can't really give you too much help in terms of the specific coding.

  • Interactive video for indesign cc

How to create interactive video for marketing ie tap screen when video is playing and goods come up but must be able to use in indesign cc for magazine I am working on ?

    Hi,
    Bob is totally right!
It's a very clever solution given by Derrick Schultz.
As I said in his topic, I've tested this tip in a fixed-layout epub exported from InDesign CC 2014.1.
    See:  Dropbox - FanfanLaTulipe_Print-Num_02.epub
It works very fine! You can discover a simple slideshow page 6 by tapping on the image!

  • VOD and interactive video

Hii all...i am new to all these concepts.
can anybody explain me the difference between the video-on-demand and interactive video.
is it like, in VOD we can download the file from Server and run it locally and in case of interactive video the file can't be downloaded from the server..(play,pause and resume will be executed on the server using RMI)..??

The Apple TV is not a set-top box and does not work with broadcast nor broadband television, so standards such as HbbTV will not be applicable. The Apple TV is a media playback device that works with your computer or with the iTunes Store and a few other Internet-based services such Netflix, YouTube, MobileMe, and Flickr, and only with those services.
While no one outside of Apple can predict future product developments, Apple's indicated that they have no interest in participating in the broadcast/broadband set-top box market. They have a different model, one based on Internet purchase and rental of individual items of content.

  • I'm sure someone addressed this - interactive video in html 5

I'm a longtime Adobe user, as we move toward the future I see the html 5 css3 Dreamweaver pack prepares me for the steps ahead. I would think somebody has already answered this question but I have a client I did some Flash interactive videos for. real simple as rolling over a certain area in the .swf plays an audio clip. The client needs this to be viewble within html 5 so converting the flash to H264 is easy but what about preserving the interactivity?
I looked around but still cannot answer the client until I know EXACTLY what I'm talking about. I'm excited abiut the Adobe flash converter which I have seen the video on which will no doubt when ready for public will boost my business greatly as Flash created technology moves into the future.
Can anyone give me an update on how to address the question " can I convert a flash INTERACTIVE swf an HTML 5 standard format preserving the interactive features of Flash?
    thx
    rd

    Hi
First - There is nothing stopping you continuing to use swf's with html5 as the object/embed code used is still valid and recognised by html5.
Second - You are probably asking this question due to the fact that the iPhone/iPad does not allow flash content. Unfortunately there is no way to get flash to play on these devices, (at the moment, but this could / probably will change). To use interactive graphics on these devices requires the use of the canvas element and javascript, but unfortunately the canvas element are not usable on current versions of IE, (IE9 does allow them).
There is a javascript fix that will allow the use of canvas on IE versions prior to IE9 but I cannot recommend its use due to its speed of rendering except for very simple animations, (and I do mean very simple).
The general opinion of most designers/developers appears to be that unless your target audience is the iPhone/iPad, then continue to use swf's for such items for the next few years at least, after all, the purchasers of the iPhone/iPad did buy these devices, (in most cases) knowing that they could not render flash.

  • Interactive video techniques

    Hi All,
Just watch another video today, regarding how video is the
future of internet advertising. When it comes to creating
interactive video, cue points can help.
Can anyone provide or show examples of truely interactive
video; that lets the user click on an item while the video is
playing, and get redirected or view further info related to that
particular item, or a audio description.
Any help on how-to acheive the above techniques, would TRUELY
    be appreciated ;)
In my view, truely interactive video should allow a user to
truely interact with the items/content of a video; or am I just
having another vision of the future?
    Kind Regards,
    Boxing Boom

    Hi,
Just found an example of this here:

How is this done, through cue points?

  • Is Captivate capable of producing this kind of Interactive video?

Is Captivate capable of producing this kind of Interactive video?
As shown here on http://vidzor.com/ ?

    Thank you Rick!
This was a massive help. As of right now I think thats the main functionality I would need. A training video with the ability for the user to answer the correct question before continuing on to more training. Can I "pause" video in Captivate? I had come across this post in some of my earlier findings
"Chapter jumps can be accomplished in Captivate but you have to setup some custom programming in order to do it. It's not that complicated but it's important that I alert you to it now rather than finding it out later. One of the best Captivate users out there has an example of how to do this on her blog, Micro-Navigation in Adobe Captivate - Captivate blog. It's worth reading up on what she calls "micro-navigation" so you know what you would be in for."
Which lead me to believe that through the coding I can manipulate Captivate further. I think i'm in the right boat for now. If my company is looking for further interaction with video I will look into storyline.
    Thanks again for the help!

  • Using DVI to Video/ S-video Adapter

I have been trying to use my DVI to Video/S-video adapter with my Daewoo Flat Screen (not flat panal) TV. I have tried every resolution and still everything is small and Fuzzy and it is extremely hard to make out anything. Im wanting to use that adapter to play my game. I am connecting using a S-Video Cable. Please any help. It is a regular Television set NOT LCD or Plasma or any kinda of flat panal just has a flat screen.
    Thanks.
    SaL

Not necessarily. It will depend on what eventually solves the problem. I think you still have a couple of choices to try:
    1. Download (& purchase) a copy of DisplayConfigX. This utility will allow you to "manually" set resolutions that your mini can provide, basically "overridding" what the mini thinks is connected to it. (ref: http://www.3dexpress.de/)
    2. Replace the DVI-to-S-Video adapter to rule out the adapter being the problem. (You may want to try this first.)

Restarting videos works and looks like video is getting deleted.
    Just a bug report

You might want to report that to Apple instead of to the other users in this forum.

After upgrading to Firexfox 35.0 all vine videos, instagram videos and some webplayer videos dont work anymore.
    I get messages like:

    ERROR 2
-Video can't be played because file is corrupt.
    http://i.imgur.com/cqRpJOp.jpg
Before I start, I will like to point out some things Ive tried already so this doesnt end up being a back and forth of things already tried.
    *Ive uninstalled adobe flash player
    *Ive tried the whole
media.windows-media-foundation.enabled to false or to true
*Ive gone into safe mode and nothing
*Ive tried toggling off the plug-ins to see if anything I have problems with works. Nothing.
All the media that plays from different various players:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7IXmV6A6Bk
    http://bestanimes.tv/mushishi-zoku-shou-2nd-season-episode-10/
http://www.watchcartoononline.com/mushishi-episode-26-english-dubbed <-- 2 embedded videos that both play.
All the media that wont play:
http://www.jwplayer.com/ <---- that front page video : I get ERROR 1 for this
    http://videomega.tv/?ref=AJWOLaJQKbbKQJaLOWJA <--- I get ERROR 1 for this
And every vine and instagram video. Since I will be asked to post something from it here is something from vine and something from instagram
    https://vine.co/v/OqxKQBJd3lm <---- I get a still image
http://instagram.com/p/up3CG6ooDP <----- I get error 2 if I go into page info and click the media tab and look for the video.
    All my enabled plugins:
    http://i.imgur.com/9fCZ1s2.jpg
Everything on my permissions even on the pages of the media I cant play is set to : Use Default.
Now, I thought this was just some kind plug-in problem, I even thought it was just something with the updated made Firefox incompatible with some of the webplayers. Of course I found out this was wrong. Keep on reading:
If your flash plugin crashes or if you terminate/end process in the Task manager, your video will be replaced by this grey message:
    http://i.imgur.com/vudnNIM.jpg
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7IXmV6A6Bk
    http://bestanimes.tv/mushishi-zoku-shou-2nd-season-episode-10/
    http://www.watchcartoononline.com/mushishi-episode-26-english-dubbed
    http://www.jwplayer.com/
    http://videomega.tv/?ref=AJWOLaJQKbbKQJaLOWJA
Now, all these videos I listed before, If I had them all open in tabs and then proceeded to terminate my flash plugin in Task Manager, they would all be replaced by that grey message window that the plugin crashed.
Now, after I updated firefox to 35.0, if I did the same thing
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7IXmV6A6Bk
    http://bestanimes.tv/mushishi-zoku-shou-2nd-season-episode-10/
    http://www.watchcartoononline.com/mushishi-episode-26-english-dubbed
These three would show that grey message and these are the ones I can play
But these 2 the ones I have a problem with.
    http://www.jwplayer.com/
    http://videomega.tv/?ref=AJWOLaJQKbbKQJaLOWJA
they wont even be affected by it. Its like they arent even using the flash plugin.
Whenever I would terminate/end process my plugin from my task manager in 34.0 EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING would not work including every vine video and instgram video, it would either show that grey message that says the plugin crashed or it would not work. They would all work again when I refreshed the page. Everything, in 34.0 in my firefox was using the flash plugin.
Now, as I stated above I thought it was just some kind of webplayer and firefox 35.0 conflict that was causing these problems.
    Until I saw this:
    http://www.watchcartoononline.com/mushishi-episode-26-english-dubbed
    http://i.imgur.com/gCaUMXm.jpg
    http://i.imgur.com/V9w7ulS.jpg
    http://www.jwplayer.com/
    http://i.imgur.com/dqZtoTX.jpg
They are both using the same exact webplayer. THE SAME ONE.
I can play the first one
but the video in the front page of http://www.jwplayer.com/ I cant play it.
Which brings me to my final conclusion.
The reason I cant play some that fron page video of http://www.jwplayer.com/
    videos from videomega.tv
    and instagrams and vines
IS because of their file extension, their file types.
I went to the firefox options and clicked the Applications tab:
    http://i.imgur.com/uWWKelX.jpg
    http://i.imgur.com/HYBjwdZ.jpg
    http://i.imgur.com/IK4C2WR.jpg
Shouldnt all those video file types be in : Use Shockwave Flash (in Firfox) instead of : Always ask
When I try to toggle it to something else I dont even get the option to use Shockwave Flash
    http://i.imgur.com/gTH18S1.jpg
    In Conclusion, what gives??
    -In 34.0 Everything worked.
-If I terminated/ended process the Flash plugin in 34.0 everything would be affected by it , either by not working anymore or showing me that grey crash message.
-This all started when I upgraded to 35.0
-Has nothing to do with webplayer conflicting with 35.0 as proven above.
-The reason for all of this not working is the type of video extension they have. Judging from the examples I gave of the things I cant play, it would seem I cant play mp4, flv and whatever vine uses. Which I think its mp4 as well.
Anyways, how do I fix all this so it works like it did before I upgraded to 35.0

    I looked at that but it only shows for Windows 8.1 , 8.0 , 7 , i have Vista , 64 bit Ultimate , would the Windows 7 one work ?? , or am i out of luck ?
And what plug-in icon in the address bar ?? , i don't see anything that pertains to any plug-ins
    This is a example of one of the videos i was trying to watch , basically when you click the arrow in the center , it just goes away for a second then comes back and the video never plays , it just sits there , in the lower left corner i see a small popup that says javascript;
