Clicking sleep does nothing

If I logout into the Login window and click on the sleep icon it dims the icons and then, after three seconds or so, undims them and the system never goes into sleep. If I think click sleep again it will go into sleep more normally. Running 10.6.2 and have never had this problem until now. Have not installed anything else recently. Just curious if this is a know issue?

comprachio, welcome to Discussions. A is a good habit to get into is BEFORE and AFTER any updates or loading of software to repair Permissions. To do this double click... Macintosh HD => Applications => Utilities => Disk Utility, from there select your HD and Repair Disk Permissions. Since things are messed up perform this and then reboot and see if problems persist, please post back with results. Good luck Bob, :~))
P.S. also fixing some sleep issues can be resolved by resetting SMU... to do this shut Imac down, unplug for a least 30 seconds plug back in and start up normally.

  • Selecting "open in new tab" from right click menu does nothing

I just updated to firefox 24 on OXS. The right click menu now makes no sense.
When I right click on a web link, then select "open in new tab" nothing happens. No tab opens.
On the other hand, I now see countless irrelevant options for that link, like "copy audio location", "copy image location", "play", "pause", etc when the item I clicking on is not an image, audio, video or any other sort of media. The contents of the right click menu now is longer than my entire screen, completely irrelevant to the link I'm clicking on and the one option that is relevant does nothing.
    How can I fix this?

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

  • Air HTML HTMLLoader load https ssl with untrusted or unknown certificate, click 'yes' does nothing

When i go to a https website with an untrusted certificate i get this warning.
when i click "yes" the HTML component does not go anywhere. just a blank white screen.
tried this out with adobe air 1.5 and 2.0

    Hi,
I have the same problem on win 7 with my AIR project that worked fine with HTTP (HTTPService) and that has a chaotic behaviour with HTTPS, i.e. for each request the user need to clic 2 times on yes. The first time for accept the fact that the certificate is not validated by an offcial authority and the second time because the name in the certificate is not corresponding with the name of the server....
Do these two actions for each request makes the application unusable ! I already tried to add my certificate to CA Root on my machine but it didn't resolve anything. Is there a solution to disable these warning from my air application ? Can I continue to use HTTPService for my communication ? Need I use low level classes as SecureSocket ?
    Thanks !

Additionnal info : I tried  to establish a socket connection on my server with SecureSocket class and I didn't find a way to bypass the blocking IOError #2031:Socket Error with the serverCertificateStatus = "principalMismatch". If I good understand, the socket do not want to connect to my server because it has not the good name and there is no way to accept to continue... That's it ?

  • Double click song does nothing

    Hello,
I'm having problems with song playback.
When I double click or press enter on a song, it does not start from the beginning, it pauses briefly then continues to play.
Also, songs resume from their last position and not from the beginning. For example, if I listen to 30 seconds of track 5 then switch to track 4, after track 4 ends playback resumes at 30 seconds into track 5 and not from the beginning.
Thanks for any information anyone can provide. I can give more details if needed.

Right-click the song(s) that are doing that. Choose Get Info, go to the Options tab, and uncheck "Remember playback position."

  • The saved Firefox extracts when double clicked but does nothing else, nor can I locate the extracted files

I downloaded Firefox 4.0 and saved it. When I double-click on the saved file it says it is extracting the files which it appears to do, however even though I clicked run nothing else happens and I can't locate the extracted files to find the extracted executable file. ....Thanks for your help!

For Flash, could you try downloading the "full" installers from this page:
    https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html
In the first table, there are two rows for Windows: one for the ActiveX control for IE, and one for the plugin for Firefox. You might want to grab both. And try the .msi files instead of the .exe files to see whether those work better.
    Will either of those install?
It's odd that on a newly rebuilt system your More System Details shows that you have a user.js file, which is an optional settings files used to override your previous session settings. This is not part of the standard Firefox installation, so if you did not create that file yourself, you may want to investigate or delete it. This article has more information on that: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].

  • When I start Firefox, the name goes to the bar at the bottom, but I can't open it. Clicking it does nothing, I am still left with my desktop. So temporarily, I have to access the internet using IE, which I don't prefer. How do I get round this?

I used FF for some time, then I looked up a page in Turkish (not my language), and the page appeared in a small format, and I couldn't open it. Even when I right-clicked the FF icon, I couldn't close it, so I turned the computer off, and restarted, but I still can't open any page with FF because I can't get the full page. I am using an Acer Desktop tower with Vista - I am bilingual German/English. I have tried starting the computer in a different modus, FF starts then, but when I use the usual modus, it won't start - I use ESET NOD32 AV and Ad-Aware, and both haven't found a problem - I am now running Malwarebytes, and so far it hasn't found anything

To answer the post title FireFox save all downloads automatically in the download folder, which you can find in the Documents folder. If you want to choose where to save your downloads go to tools>options>check always ask me where to save files.
Secondly, I am assuming you have IE 8 installed as this is the only version that supports this fix that is currently not in beta. Go to control panel>internet options>advanced tab and reset the settings at the bottom. This may or may not fix the problem but it is a good first step.

  • For the past few days videos are not playing properly. They appear to load but stop and start, even though the line of thumbnails shows up at the bottom. Clicking play does nothing.

There seems to be a major problem with video playbacks both from web sites and YouTube. If I click on a video the loading circle shows it is loading but either the video starts for 2-3 seconds and stops, or it won't start at all. At the bottom of the screen there is a section that shows individual thumbnails for the video and that shows that the video has loaded, but it refuses to play. I just tried a youtube video on my iPhone and the same thing is happening. Some occasional videos seem to work okay but I have spent much time trying to watch clips.

Use SpeedTest to test the speed of your internet.  If slow, contact your ISP to confirm if the problem is on their end.
You have 2 versions of QT.  Version 7.x is inside your Utility folder.  Try that one.

  • My left corner of my track pad quit working. It clicks but does nothing.

Any ideas why the track pad left corner of my macbook pro would stop responding? I've pulled the battery because someone suggested it might be swollen but that didn't help.

Push on the circular area on the opposite end to where the batteries go in. You should feel it move.

  • Holding ctrl when clicking a link doesn't open it in a new tab; does nothing

When I try to open a link in a new tab by holding down ctrl while clicking, it does nothing. Doesn't open at all. Have tried restarting in safe mode with add-ons disabled and had no joy.
Also getting no menu when using right click, also tried in safe mode, also nothing.

Should add that holding ctrl works from the bookmarks toolbar, just not in webpages themselves
