ORA-16191: Primary log shipping client not logged on standby.
Hi,
Please help me in the following scenario. I have two nodes ASM1 & ASM2 with RHEL4 U5 OS. On node ASM1 there is database ORCL using ASM diskgroups DATA & RECOVER and archive location is on '+RECOVER/orcl/'. On ASM2 node, I have to configure STDBYORCL (standby) database using ASM. I have taken the copy of database ORCL via RMAN, as per maximum availability architecture.
Then I have ftp'd all to ASM2 and put them on FS /u01/oradata. Have made all necessary changes in primary and standby database pfile and then perform the duplicate database for standby using RMAN in order to put the db files in desired diskgroups. I have mounted the standby database but unfortunately, log transport service is not working and archives are not getting shipped to standby host.
Here are all configuration details.

Hello. There are two Cisco devices: asa5512 and asa5510. Tell me whether it is possible to organize a failover active / standby using these devices. If this is not possible, tell me if there are any other possibilities for automatic backup.
If by Backup , you mean hardware Redundancy , it would not be possible.
You can run the same configuration on both the devices and if one fails , you can manually replace it with the other one.
Thanks and Regards,
Vibhor Amrodia -
Admin TACACS+ access fails ASA in Active/Standby Configuration
We have two ASA 5510 with version 8.2(1) in Active/Standby configuration, the failover works fine, but when the primary ASA comes back it remains standby , so we manually change it to active with the failover active command, then we try to access the device using a TACACS+ account , it doesnt work , just the local account works; after a period of time (15min) , the TACACS+ access start to work.
I'm not sure about your configuration but when in timed mode, a server that is declared "failed" will once again
be made available after 30 seconds. Unlike reactivation mode, it is not
necessary for all of the servers to fail before any can be reactivated.
On possible source of confusion to be aware of in timed mode:
The "show aaa-server" command will continue to show the server as FAILED
until the server is needed to authenticate a connection.
depletion
Reactivates failed servers only after all of the servers in the group are inactive.
timed
Reactivates failed servers after 30 seconds of down time.
Please tweak reactivation mode.

Logical standby configuration details
we want to be able to gather additional information about the logical standby configuration.
How do we know if log_auto_delete is turn on or off?
How do we know if any of the tables/schema dml/ddl are in skip mode?
Thanks.I am running 9.2.0.4, but I am still getting this error. Any idea why?

I have used SAP doc mgmt for years. We copied a client and now when I configure a Class to my DMS DIR and go to CV01n Additional Data NONE of the characteristic entry boxes show up. Additional Data is blank.
It appears there must be some high level setting missing in the client. I have checked all authorizations and cannot find a difference between this client and all of the other clients we have. Only this one client does not show the class characteristics in the Additional Data tab.
Any ideas of why this standard function is not working). It does not matter which DIR I config the 017 class to, nothing shows on Additional Data.Hi,
The issue is resolved. We are working in a sandbox with Class configuration on a DMS issue related to standard class 017. There are no standard settings in SPRO - Cross-Application Components | Maintain Object Types and Class Types | for the object type DRAW that will allow "auto-populating" characteristic values as we do with VC class 300.
For whatever reason DRAW and class 017 are not configured by SAP in the same manner as class 300 for example.
We made a config entry for DRAW Class 017 VBAP. Let's just say the system did not like that.
We are exploring other options. -
Db_file parameter change in oracle 8i with physical standby configured
i have oracle 8i (8.1.7) with physical standby configured.
i need to change the db_file parameter value. kindly check the below steps are correct? Thanks.
1. alter database backup controlfile to trace;
2. edit the init.ora file as db_file=<new value> (after backing up the existing pfile)
3. edit the create control file statement in udump -- max datafile (and also remove the first line startup nomount)
4. shutdown immediate;
5. startup pfile ='file name';
6. in sqlplus run the create control file statement;
7. alter database backup controfl file for standby;
8. move the standby control file to standby db server
9. shutdown immediate in standby
10. copy the pfile and edit the new values
11. startup mount pfile='new pfile' (in standby)
12. recover control file <location> from rman
13. start the recovering of standby.
Thanks,
Raman.Just change the db_files value to some higher value in the init.ora file and restart the database. With this you can create more datafiles no need to create control file.

Streamlined Client Management and VDI with Configuration Manager 2012
Hi,
There is an interesting blog about managing ConfigMgr 2012 Clients in a VDI environment.
http://blogs.technet.com/b/server-cloud/archive/2011/11/15/streamlined-client-management-and-vdi-with-configuration-manager-2012.aspx
But I didn't find any way or description in the blog on how to prepare the client in the base image used for VDI. Do we still have to make the client unique before shutting down the base image? Or will this be done automatically?
Are these new attributes (IsVirtual, IsMachineChangesPersistent ...) enabled by default?
Thanks!
Gr. Cédric.No this is handled by ConfigMgr post SP1
Are these new attributes (IsVirtual, IsMachineChangesPersistent ...) enabled by default?
For XenDesktop -no you will need to enable them in the client settings (not sure for other virtual
solutions)
In the SCCM Console go to the Administration workspace; click Client Settings. Right click the Default Client Settings and choose Properties
Choose Hardware Inventory and click Set Classes.
Click the Add button and then click Connect.
Enter the computer name of a master image device that has the SCCM client installed.
Enter root\ccmvdi as the WMI namespace and click Connect.
Select CCM_DesktopMachine. Click Ok.

Heterogenous Standby Configuration - Oracle 10g
Hi All
I was searching on net to find out if a Heterogenous Standby Configuration could be achieved in Oracle Database Server 10.2.0.4.0?
We have our production Database running on Windows 2003 Server EE running on Dell PowerEdge. Its a two node RAC Database running Oracle database Server EE 10.2.0.4.0.
For this set-up, could we look at having the standby on another server running SUSE Linux. If this is possible, we would be able to proceed with out actually procuring another hardware and also make use of this Linux machine which is failry under utilised at the moment.
From your experiences, could you please advice if this is a sensible way. If such a set-up is existing, it could help from your experiences off what we could expect in terms of pitfalls and so on which you might want us to consider before making a decision this way?
Many thanks for your recommendations in advance.
Regards!
Sarat.Agreed.. As I was goind through some other posts on the net, I understand this Heterogeneous Standby Configuration is a new feature in Oracle database 11g ...
We might also need to look at that possibility.. however, if there is a place which I could refer to and make some quick notes on such mixed OS configurations, it helps alot... I may also want to go through the 11g documentation meanwhile..

Switchover role transition in a standby configuration
Hi All,
Oracle 10.2.0.1
Linux RHEL 5
Vmware server 2.1
Host Os Windows Xp
I have created a database and configured the standby for it.This is a virtual machine setup.
The current primary database has 3 redologfiles and no standby redologfiles added.And the standby database has the redologfiles same as the primary and 3 standby redologfiles configured just for enabling the real time apply.
Now i am trying to switchover the roles of both the databases.
So i gave the below command in the primary database
sql>alter database commit to switchover to physical standby with session shutdown;
i am getting the below error..
ORA-16416: Switchover target is not synchronized with the primary
When i check the V$archive_gap in standby nothing returns..
I tried to switch logfile in the primary and manually transfered the recent archivelog to the standby location and applied manually, still getting the same error..
Please Advice...
TIA,

You should create the standby logfiles on the primary as well. Also, you must point with the LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_2 (probably) parameter from the standby to the primary with LGWR SYNC AFFIRM, in order to keep your protection level after the switchover. I would also recommend that you go with the Data Guard Broker in order to do switchover & failover, it's much easier to say
DGMGRL> switchover to sb;And DMON will take care for all the appropriate SQL commands and LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_n settings!
Kind regards
Uwe

Consideration of DBFS when doing a switchover/failover to standby
Can anyone let me know if i can configure the DBFS separated from the Production database with a dataguard standby to reduce the impact on my production database?
Hello;
Yes. To me a failover is a last resort. Ask yourself a few questions:
Does my business require 100 percent uptime?
How long will the Primary not be available?
How long and how will I recover from the failover?
Can I do a switchover instead?
Every year we power down the main server room for a weekend. What I do is a switchover and then a switch back after the old primary comes up as the standby and catches up.
Here are my failover test notes:

Server 2012 R2 DHCP Failover - Hot Standby clients not renewing with standby server
In my test network I have a pair of Server 2012 R2 DHCP servers setup for Hot Standby and they will successfully service a client request for a new request.
What I am seeing is that when I test failover the clients will not renew with the Standby server. I have to release first and then renew.
When both DHCP servers are up the state is normal and replication of configuration from the Active to Standby is working. As far as I can tell it is configured correctly.
MaxClientLeadTime is 10 minutes.
StateSwitchInterval is 10 minutes.
AutoStateTransition is set to True.
Adding that manual renews fail with a message stating that it was unable to contact the dhcp server. However if I wait for the lease to expire/auto-renew the dhcp server does indeed change to the standby. Once the primary server comes back up and the state
returns to normal I am able to manually renew.
thanks in advance
Hi,
For test, we let the active DHCP down and the standby DHCP server will take place. But when we renew an IP, client send unicast to the former DHCP
server. That’s why the first request failed.
At 7/8 of the scope lease time, the client moves into a REBINDING state and broadcasts a lease renewal request.

Hope this helps. -

I have created a standby server for my SAP application as a part of test Disaster Recovery scenario. I can see the redo logs getting applied from primary to standby. When i again changes the roles it works fine. I am not sure what is cause of ORA -01033 error. Here are the detailed tnsnames.ora of both sites.
