Client in sap

hi ,
1. what is client in sap.
   i. explain the client no: which we see on the initial screen of logon page.

Hi Baleeq,
SAP Clients are part of the defining technical structure of the SAP System. Each client contains its own master records and set of tables.
When you log on to an SAP System, you log on to a particular client of this system. Any activities you carry out in the system are always carried out in one client. When you plan your SAP system landscape, you must consider which clients you need for which activities.
By assigning activities to be performed in a client, you give each client a particular role. This section describes the most important client roles.
Since you need to adapt the SAP software for your own business needs, each SAP system landscape requires a client where Customizing settings, and possibly ABAP Workbench developments, can be made. This client is known as the Customizing and development client, or Customizing client for short. The abbreviation CUST is used for this client.
Before you can use the Customizing settings and Workbench developments productively, you need to test them extensively for errors. Any faulty settings can seriously disrupt productive operations, and at worst, lead to the loss of productive data. The integrated nature of the various SAP applications means that there are many dependencies between the different Customizing settings. Even an experienced Customizing developer may not discover these dependencies immediately. The correctness of the settings can only be guaranteed with extensive testing. The client where these tests are made is the Quality Assurance Client, QTST for short.
A separate client is required for productive use of the SAP System. So that this client can be used without disruption, it is essential that no Customizing settings or Workbench developments are made here, and also that no tests are carried out. This client is known as the Production Client, PROD for short.
These three clients, CUST, QTST and PROD, are the central clients that exist in every system landscape. Standard system landscapes have precisely one client for each of these client roles.
SAP recommends that you make all your Customizing settings in a single Customizing client, and then use the CTS to transport them to the other clients.
SAP also recommends that you do not make any Customizing settings or Workbench developments in the quality assurance or production clients. You can make sure of this by making appropriate client settings.
In addition to the central clients, you can also set up other clients for other tasks. However, you must remember that each extra client takes up additional system resources (main memory and database space). They also need to be administrated. For example, you need to set up and administrate access authorization for the users, and also distribute any changes to other clients with the CTS. You must weigh up the advantages and disadvantages of setting up other clients.
Examples of other client roles are:
Development test client (TEST): Developers can use this client to test their Customizing settings and Workbench developments, before they release their change requests. In this client the developers can create test application data for realistic tests. If they discover errors, they can remove them in the Customizing client. A development test client is always set up in the same SAP System as the Customizing client. This means that any changes that are made to cross-client data in the Customizing client are also immediately visible in the development test client. Changes to client-specific data are copied from the Customizing client to the development test client using a special client copy function. The client copy function uses the unreleased change requests from the Customizing client to do this. The development test client is set so that you cannot make changes to Customizing data and Repository objects.
Prototype or sandbox client (SAND): You can use this client to test any client-specific Customizing settings if you are not sure whether you want to use them in this form. Any settings that you want to keep are then entered in the Customizing client. To prevent conflicts between the prototype client settings and real settings in the Customizing client, you cannot make changes to cross-client Customizing data and Repository objects in the prototype client. The CTS does not record changes made to client-specific Customizing data, and does not transport them from the prototype client. You can make sure of this by making appropriate client settings.
Training client (TRNG): To prepare end users for new functions that are to be transported into the production client, you can set up a training client. The users can use the new functions in this client with specially created application data. This client is set so that you cannot make changes to Customizing data and Repository objects.
Hope this will help.

  • How to define a client in sap?

    hi
experts can u help me for this

    SAP Client
Before doing a client copy, you need to prepare the following :-
    1. Find the source client space with the client size custom program which can be implemented using the rel. note:
Find the space of the client - '0118823'. This will give you the size of the source client.
    2. If your are on Unix OS, adjust all the file systems according to PRD file system to fit the PRD client in DEV
client based on space requirements also.
    3. You can do the client copy by remote or export/import client.
Remote method is not preferred if you are doing a large client copy.
        Do a client export/import.
    4. To speed up the export/import, use R3trans export/import for the clustered tables.
Please find the rel. notes related to performance improvements for cluster tables in OSS.
    5. Do import and post processing.
Note: Export may take 10 to 20 hr. for 50gb of data
import may take 4 days and post import will take 8 to 15 hr. for 50gb of data. And it all depends on
        your system performance.
Please refer OSS rel. notes for the few RZ10 parameters which needs to be set for cluster tables to speed up the process.
    Note :-
If it is a fresh installation, do this --
    1.  SCC4 --> Create client no. and fill other details.
    2.  Logon to the newly created client with SAP* and PASS as password.
    3.  SCCL --> choose any profile (preferably SAP_ALL), source client 000 and target client <as created just now>.
    4.  Preferably do a test run initially to check if it can go well.
    5.  As a care check space in databases.

    Dear
    What is Client in SAP?

Client is the instance in SAP.
    For eg:
Client 200 - Development client, where Abappers would do coding / like a sandbox
Client 300 - Customization Client, where do you customization pertaining to client business.
Client 500 - Quality Client - Where you do your testing before Go-live
Client 700 - Production - Where the end users use the SAP system as per real time scenario.
    Hope this is clear.

  • What is client in SAP???how to explain as a technical Consultant??

What is client in SAP???how to explain as a technical Consultant??
this is the question asked by SAP labs,India.
Can anyone giv me a proper Answer
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi,
Normally we have 3 clients in our real time scenario.Development,Quality and production client. Each client has different client numbers like 100 ,200, 300. First we develop our applications in development client. We will assign this to a package like ZDE. at this time a request will be assigned .then we will release this from se01 or se10. then we need to import themin  quality client. In quality client we have the data which is closed to Production system. Here we will perform all the testing .If any changes we want to do then once again we will do in dev client and transport it to quality. If everything is ok.Then we will transport this to Production client where key users will use our applications.
         Hope u understand.

  • Multiple clients in SAP BI possible to create?

    Hi,
I already have a SAP BI system on client 150. Is it possible to create a different client for the same system? In R/3 we do the developement and import it through SCC1. If I want similar scenario in BI then is it possible?
    Regards.
    Shailesh Naik

Technically, you can have multiple clients. SAP does support it. It has its own limitations though. Refer the below note:
Note 522569 - BW: Working in several clients (especially APO 4.x/SCM 4.x)
But advise is not to do it unless its a testing environment.

    SUBU

    Hi Subu
Initially you need to prepare topics wise questions and in the process the data collection should be from 2 sources i.e. Primary - collecting information directly by interacting with the client and the other one is Secondary - from the documents that you collect from the client.
After formal introduction during the Kick off meeting never directly jump down to interact with the client you need to patiently observe the day to day business process of the client - department wise for the first few days. Do document all the observations that are made by you, this will help you to analyse the gap between the legacy system and std SAP Process.
The first and the foremost thing is that we need to see on what flatform all the business process relating to Accounting is maintained i.e the software used to store the legacy data.\
Now I will mention some of the important points that can be used a check list during your interaction with the client.
1.We are the consultants who need to freeze the Enterprise Structure first and later on the other module consultants will add their respective enterprise elements to the enterprise structure freezed by us. Therefore this process will by itself will take not less than 1 to 2 months. This process is the Typical phase where a lot of interaction/understanding/experience will come into limelight. So be attentive and observe the process throughly, once the Enterprise Structure is freezed and configured we cannot withdraw from the system.
    2. Codification of the Enterprise Elements play a vital role do follow some naming convention. Here coding can be in 3 forms i.e. pure numeric, alfanumeric or pure alphabets.
    3. Identify the chart of accounts that is maintained.
    4. Grouping process of the GL Account According tos Schedule VI of Companies Act 1956
    5. Customer & Vendor Grouping - payment terms maintained - Down payment if applicable - how the memos maintained.
6.. Collect all the documents relating to Procurement Process right from indent preparation to billing and followed by payment. This is very useful.
    7. CIN plays a very important role regarding this we will have a seperate session in the days to come.
This is just a beginning and hope this will help you and as the time comes up do feel free to put up questions and I will clarify for the same.

  • To Find the version of Oracle Instant Client in SAP

    Hi,
I am a newbie in SAP with oracle. I have planned to upgrade the Oracle Instant Client Version in our systems.
The following is our system specificatiosn:
    SAP : ECC6.0
    Database : Oracle 10204
    OS : HP-UX 11.23 ia64
I have the following observations with respect to finding the version of the Oracle Instant client in  SAP.
    a)  As per the SAP note : 819829, the version of the Oracle client can be found using the command "genezi-v" under the path
    genezi -v
    Client Shared Library 64-bit - 10.2.0.4.0
    System name:    HP-UX
    Release:        B.11.23
    Version:        U
    Machine:        ia64
    b) From the SAPGUI, I have found the version of the DB Client library as  OCI_102 (10.2.0.1.0).
    Following are my queries:
    1) Which of the above methods can be considered to find the correct version of Oracle Instant client in SAP?
    2) If the method b gives the correrct version --> Where does this value is picked up from OS level?
    with regards,
    Arul

    Hello Arul,
just look at a work process trace file .. you will find a section like this while starting SAP or restarting the work process.
    Loading DB library '/usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/exe/run/dboraslib.o' ...
    Library '/usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/exe/run/dboraslib.o' loaded
    Version of '/usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/exe/run/dboraslib.o' is "700.08", patchlevel (0.110)
    Got LIBPATH=/usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/exe/run:/usr/lib:/lib:/usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/exe/run:/opt/kerberos/lib:/oracle/client/10x_64/i
    Oracle Client Version: '10.2.0.4.0', (dbsl 701 140910)
There you can find the actual used client version ... also SAP delivers a file called SAPIC_README in the oracle client directory, which gives you information about the client version and its applied patches.

  • Oracle Client for SAP NetWeaver 7

I am pretty new in this area and wondering whether a new installation of SAP NetWeaver 7.0 Central Instance on Linux needs Oracle RDBMS 10g Client from SAP or it can be obtained from Oracle (Instantclient)?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
The instantclient from Oracle and from SAP are the same (note, only the instantclient, 10g, no other previous oracle client version)

If you do not have the file OCL10264.SAR, then you can download the file from SAP, no need to download it from Oracle (why that need of downloading from Oracle?)
You can take a look at your installation CDs, the file is also located there. No need to download it from anywhere.
Recommendation, unless for an explicity reason (like a note indicating it or a message with the same indication) do not download/install anything that is not available in an SAP website
