Client needs java installation?

I am a beginner of JWS. I wonder if the users on the client side need to install JDK/JRE on their computer.
If it is necessary for the client user to install JDK/JRE, will JWS automatically detect whether the client user's computer already has it with correct version? If not, will JWS install it and launch the application at the same time?
Thanks.

You need a Jre on you computer, because Jws is a Java application, too. You can configue you jnlp file to run the application only with a min.jre version, and if this jre version is on the computer not avalible do a automatic download.

  • Web Analysis Webapp install where Client need Java 1.6

    Hello
because our JRE rollout to the clients increases the JRE Version , the version lag between the one Web Analysis needs on the client and the one available increases steadily.
Therefore it would by nice if someone describes in a straightforward manner the way to install Web Analysis Web Application that needs a Java 1.6 on the client side.

  • BI Java Installation: Clarification Needed!

I'm wondering if someone could help clear this up for me:
We have installed NW2004s SPS08 on Solaris with only the usage type EP (AS Java/EP). Awhile back I was tasked with connecting our BW ABAP system to our Portal ("Integration into the Portal" - transaction SPRO etc).
After starting this task I noticed I was missing things that the instructions were telling me to configure; i.e. Items that were related to BI that weren't in the Portal such as certain roles, the BI Repository Manager etc.
Reading around, it seemed like I need to install the BI usage type.
I have now been tasked with another installation of the Portal (NW2004s SR1 this time), but am trying to head off the problems I'm experiencing trying to connect the Portal to our BW ABAP system. This will be a Java only installation. I've read that BI-Java requires EP and AS Java, and that if I install the BI-Java usage type, EP and AS-Java will be installed automatically.
My question is, if I do the BI-Java installation and it automatically installs EP/AS-Java, will the Portal still act the same way as it does in my EP/AS-Java only installation I already have? We have many plans to use the Portal as an entry point for all of our backend systems, so if the Portal's capabilities are not what we see already (in our first installation of just EP/AS-Java) then we will have problems.
Any clarification is greatly appreciated and I will award points accordingly.
    THANKS!
    Beau.

I think that's what I needed to know.
I was actually wondering about DI as well. Our developers are having problems deploying .EAR files to our original EP-only install. They can deploy .PAR files with no problems, but .EAR files always error out. Maybe having DI will solve this problem as well? I'm a little concerned about the hardware capacity of this box with having BI, EP and DI all installed on it. I had contacted SAP about installing DI a while back and basically they had told me to install it on a seperate server, by itself. We're running a Sun Enterprise 420R, 4G of memory and a 450 mhz processor for this new installation. Do you think this box is capable of handle EP, BI and DI (AS-JAVA)?
    Thanks for your help!

  • Why do we need write access to Java installation Directory

We are Upgrading from Siebel Analytics 7.8 to OBIEE 10.1.3.4.
As OBIEE needs Java 1.5 or higher as a pre-requisite we are planning to uninstall Java 1.4 and install latest version of Java 1.5.
According to OBI Installation and Configuration Guide http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10415_01/doc/bi.1013/b31765.pdf -> Page 39 "If you are installing using the Basic installation type, make the user or user group permissions

I had this same question and asked Oracle. Here's what I was told:
    Per Dev:
"For OBI Presentation Services and OBI Publisher, jdk fonts files are copied into the JDK location because we do not bundle our own JDK. To ensure the install can do this you need to ensure that the Oracle BI installer has permissions to copy files to the specified JDK location.
This means that if the same user who installer/untarred JDK is also installing Oracle BI, the install should work. In this case the the permissions of the JDK is probably 755.
It will not work if a root user installs JDK and a normal user installs Oracle BI because the normal user does not have access to write to the JDK location or will not work if the JDK location is read-only, i.e. 444. In this case running chmod -R 777 will work."

  • Desperately need some help with client-server java programming

    Hi all,
I'm new to client server java programming. I would like to work on servlets and apache tomcat. I installed the apache tomcat v 5.5 into my machine and i have sun java 6 also. I created a java applet class to be as a client and embed it into an html index file, like this:
<applet code="EchoApplet.class" width="300" height="300"></applet>However, when I try to run the html file on the localhost, it print this error: classNotFoundException, couldn't load "EchoApplet.class" class. On the other hand, when I open the index file on applet viewer or by right clicking, open with firefox version 3, it works.
I thought that the problem is with firefox, but after running the applet through the directory not the server, i found that the problem is not any more with firefox.
Can anyone help me to solve this problem. I'm working on it for 5 days now and nothing on the net helped me. I tried a lot of solutions.
    Any help?

    arun,
If the browser is going to execute $myApplet, first it must get the $myApplet.class from the server, right?
    So it follows that:
    1. $myApplet.class must be acessible to server, and
    2. the server must know exactly where to find $myApplet.class
So, the simplest solution is to is put the $myApplet.class in the same directory as the HTML file which uses it... then your applet tag is simple:
      <applet height="200" width="400" code="$myApplet.class" ></applet>* The height & width attributes are required
    * Note the +.class+ is required in the code attribute (a common mistake).
    * This works uniformly (AFAIK) accross all java-enabled browsers.
    * There are incompatibilities with the codebase attribute. Poo!
    Cheers. Keith.

  • I am trying to use an education program that needs Java applets to install and use and it will not use Safari. When I download IE from the web it will not install. How can I get a browser that will work on my MacAir for travel use of this program?

I am trying to use and education program that needs Java applets and it will not run on Safari. IE will not install from the web. How do I get a browser that will work to install so I can use this program when I travel.

Try using FireFox. IE will only run on a Mac if you run Windows on the Mac.
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows 7 or Windows 8.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. A more recent comparison of Parallels, VM Fusion, and Virtual Box is found at Virtualization Benchmarks- Parallels 10 vs. Fusion 7 vs. VirtualBox. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard and later. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • Referencing Java Installation Path

We have an java application which apparently contains hard coded references to the java installation directory. I.E. (C:\program files\Java\jre1.4.2_04)
The problem is that this means we have to have the same version of java across all our servers for the software to work. What we have traditionally done is load the latest version of java on every new server we deploy (then maintain incremental upgrades afterwards). The theory being that we wanted to be on the latest version which is least vulnerable to security issues. Of course the problem with that is that the latest version of java is always different.
So my question is - is there no way to dynamically reference the latest java installation directory. I'm not a java programmer but I'm having a difficult time believing there isn't some environment or system variable that contains this path vs hard coding it?
Also maybe this is better aimed at another group but, if java has been upgraded - why are the previous versions left behind? I just noticed in my program files directory I have 11 different versions of java installed. Whats the point and isn't that a security risk? I.E. Say there was x security issue with java 1.4.2 build 1, so build 2 was released. We upgraded to build 2 but build 1 is left behind.... can you see where this is going?
    Thanks
    Brad

I just got clarification. Apparently our devs are calling the Java application from an ASP/ASP.net page. Excerpt below:
    Dim a_jvmargs(1)
    a_jvmargs(0)= "-Djava.class.path=C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_04\lib\rt.jar;" &_
    "C:\jar1.jar;" &_
    "C:\jar2.jar;" &_
    "C:\jar3.jar;" &_
    "C:\jar4.jar"
    set objJVM = Server.CreateObject("comJava.comJavaJvm")
    objJVM.setVMArguments(a_jvmargs)
    objJVM.setJavaVMLibraryPath("C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_04\bin\client\jvm.dll")
    objJVM.CreateJavaVM()
Maybe this is more of an ASP/Microsoft question now. None the less do you have any recommendations about how we might avoid directly hard coding the path?
    Thanks Again,
    Brad

  • What is the best Java installer??

    Hi,
I know this is not exactly a programing question, but I am writing a small desktop application which I want to distribute on CD.
To make it look as professional as possible I would like to use an installer the install the applications on Windows PC's. The problem is I need an installer which can detect if the PC has the JRE installed and if not or it is an out dated version install a newer JRE and then install my application.
I cannot find an installer capable of doing this - except for installAnywhere which is way to expensive for me.
Can anyone recommend a good installer to solve this problem?
    Thanks in advance!!!

The http://www.izforge.com/izpack looks great - the
problem is that it needs a JRE installed to run and
some machines wont have one pre-installed.I wouldn't use the users installed JRE even if one exists. Put the JRE you want to use in your application folders and have your application be completely self-contained. That's much more seemless than using an unknown JRE or installing one on the users machine or messing with their existing JRE setup. The user won't even have to know it running in Java.
There is no need for an 'installed' JRE.

  • SAP BI 7.4 ABAP Only, Do i need Java stack

    Hello,
We are implementing BI and currently we only installed BI ABAP Stack only, customer will look for reporting and dash boards In future. Customer also has plan to implement SAP Business Objects. Could you please advise me here
Do we need BI Java stack for BOBJ ? With out Java can we do reporting and dash boards ? Can some one please help me to understand
    Please
    Thanks,
    Aravind

    Hi,
SAP Business Objects Business Intelligence 4.0 is installed on any machine ( windows/unix, depending on your architecture). It is integrated with a backend BW(also called BI) system. Now this BW(BI) system needs to be dual stack ( both ABAP and JAVA; as many features of SAP Business Objects Business Intelligence 4.0 requires BW java portal).
You cannot add ABAP ( like an add-on) to already installed java stack. ( though the reverse is possible, but not with NW 7.3).
What you can do now is to install NW 7.3 ABAP as a separate system and then integrate your NW java with your ABAP ( i.e, change the UME from java databse to ABAP in your java stack). This has to be done as ABAP+JAVA installation option ( as a single instance) is not available for NW 7.3 ( exception being for PI and Solution Manager). No further change in SAP Business Objects Business Intelligence 4.0 is required.
    For more infor refer to
BI and BO - ABAP, Java or Dual stack

  • NO Client side JAVA

I need to develop a JSP that contains no client side JAVA.
By making use of JSP Bean Actions - would this not be considered using client side Java?
Any other adice on creating a JSP without using any client sode Java would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much in advance.

    Hi
Thats right, JSP contain Java Code or References to Java Objects which are all resolved on the server side and the output is sent to the client (browser).
The page could contain client side java if you embed Java Applets into your JSP.
I'm not sure if you mean that you don't want to have any "Java Code" in your JSP, such as :
<% if()......%> etc. then you have to go for Custom Tag Libraries and Java Bean Components.
See the links below for help on these:

  • I can't run java installer. This may involve firefox. My firewall is turned off so that I can install java, but something is still blocking the installation procedure, and java's support page doesn't seem to offer an answer.

University tech support says their online course system prefers explorer to firefox, and something they and the java download site both say about allowing pop-ups and disabling the firewall make me thing that part of the problem is with firefox's compatibility. But honestly, I don't know. I just know that I'm following all the directions I can find and it doesn't seem to be working.

#Download and SAVE the Java installer to your hard drive,
#*SAVE the installer to your Desktop so that you can easily find it

  • Java installer reports failure but Java works (Mac OS X 10.8.5)

    Hello,
For the last few Java updates (JRE and JDK), after the dmg is mounted and the installer is run, the installer reports failure. Is there a way to check some logs or better understand why it is reporting a failure? The new version installed always runs fine after the install.
Please let me know if I can provide further information.

  • Secure Login Client and Java

    Hi All,
We are having a project to implement NW SSO for NWBC for HTML, Citrix XenApp will be used as the desktop environment. The requirement is that no Java allowed to be installed on the web browser.
According to PAM, Secure Login Client is not support Microsoft Application Virtualization (App-V), so how can we deploy the Secure Login Client to Citrix environment?
If we want to use Secure Login Web Client instead of Secure Login Client, does Secure Login Web Client requires Java installed on users' web browsers? In the latest Secure Login implementation guide (SSO 2.0), it does not mentioned anything about Java runtime. However, because as far as I understand, Secure Login Web Client is a feature of Secure Login Server, while Secure Login Server is pure Java application, I suspect that Secure Login Web Client also require Java runtime to run. Is that true?
    Best regards,
    Duy

    Hello Duy,
The Product Availability Matrix states that Secure Login Web Client needs a Java runtime in the browser. See the footer of the Secure Login Web Client pages for Windows and Linux/MAC OS browser platform support. It says the following:
For Windows: SupportedJava Runtime: Oracle (Sun) JSE 6, 7 and8, 32bit
For Linux/MAC OS: Supported Java Runtime: Oracle (Sun) JSE 6.0 and7.0, 32bit/64bit depending on browser
    Best regards,
    Martin

  • Why does RMI client needs to specify codebase

    Anyone,
I'm trying out a dynamic class loading tutorial.
my question is why does the client need to define
    java.rmi.server.codebase.
I can understand why the server needs it, as it is downloading classes
it does not have information about. But why does the client need to specify the codebase

The client has to annotate the codebase property if it is calling remote methods with parameters, whose subtypes are not defined in the server. This way server has a change to dynamically locate and load those classes from specified codebase.
