Client odbc for AIX 5.3?

Hi:
I have the following enviroment:
- WebSphere Message Broker 5.0
- DB2 8.1
- MQ 5.3
- Red Hat Linux AS 3.0
And I trying to define an ODBC connection to the enviroment:
- Oracle 10g
- AIX 5.3
I don´t found in Oracle, the Client ODBC for AIX 5.3. The question here is it's posible working whith ODBC applications (especifically with the driver DataDirect 5.2) without ODBC libraries for AIX 5.3.
Thanks

Assuming that the DataDirect 5.2 driver supports Red Hat Linux AS 3.0 and connections to a 10g database (which seems reasonable, but I haven't checked their support matrix), you should have no problems. In this configuration, you wouldn't be using any Oracle ODBC libraries.

  • Table Problem : BOE-XI (R2) on AIX with DataDirect ODBC for MS-SQL

    BOE-XI (R2).
    Single-Server installed on AIX.
    ODBC connection to MS-SQL 2000 database using DataDirect 5.1 SQLServer Wire Protocol Driver.
    CR-XI (R2) RPT content.
    The CR-XI (R2) Reports run fine on the Windows desktop using the regular MS-SQL 2000 ODBC connection method.
    They also run fine on a Windows BOE-XI (R2) DEVELOPMENT server using the regular MS-SQL 2000 ODBC connection method.
    The TEST server for BOE-XI (R2) is running on AIX (not Windows).
    We set-up the ODBC connection to the MS-SQL 2000 database using the "DataDirect 5.1 SQLServer Wire Protocol Driver" for AIX as advised by BOBJ techs.
    Most of our RPTs run OK on the AIX server using that DataDirect ODBC, but about 25% run for a while then FAIL with the following error.
    "The table could not be found".
    All three (3) methods of running the reports - Desktop, DEV, and TEST are connecting to the same MS-SQL 2000 database using the same credentials. So it is not an account permissions problem...
    I can also get the FAILING reports to run OK on the AIX server if I use JDBC connection to the DB instead of DataDirect ODBC.
    It looks like the same TABLE NAME exists in more that one schema on this database.
    EXAMPLE - Table "User_Name" exists in both the "Current" and "Archive" schemas.
    The Windows SQL and the JDBC drivers seem to be able to determine which schema to connect to to access the correct table, but the DataDirect driver can't figure-out which "User_Name" table to use.
    My guess is that there is some setting missing on the DataDirect ODBC configuration on the AIX server, but I can't figure out what it is.
    Anyone seen this before when using that DataDirect ODBC driver on AIX....and know how to fix it?
    Thanks in Advance!

    Hmm... I haven't come across that problem myself, so I'll just throw this out.  A typical odbc.ini file looks something like this:
    [North]
    Driver=/export/home2/boxi/bobje/enterprise11/solaris_sparc/odbc/lib/CRmsss20.so
    Description=DataDirect 5.0 SQLServer Wire Protocol Driver
    Address=10.0.0.3,1433
    Database=Northwind
    QuotedId=Yes
    AnsiNPW=No
    LogonID=user
    QEWSD=38527
    Password=pass
    ... it seems pretty clear exactly which database the datadirect should use.  Are there any weird characters in your odbc DSN ( [North] ) that can confuse between Windows and Unix? Is the DSN excessively long?.  I found a link (http://bytes.com/forum/thread144518.html) which indicates that sqlserver will allow a three-part identifier to select database.table.column, since you have jdbc working, I'm not sure if that is a viable solution or easy to test using CR.  Otherwise, another workaround may be to create a view of that table using a unique name and report off of the view.

  • MS SQL DB Server Client for AIX

    Hi,
       I am trying to setup DB connect for our BW system.  However just like many others on SDN I am having trouble with MS SQL Client for AIX (Unix)
    Here is the info:
    SAP System:
    SAP BW 3.5 SAPKW35013
    OS:  AIX
    SAP Basis: 640 SP 13
    DB: ORACLE 9.2.0.6.0
    Source DB
    MS SQL Server 2000: SP 4: ver. 8.00.2039
    OS: MS Server 2003
    I have seen SAP installations running on WinNT using DB Connect for MS SQL but is there "NO WAY" to do it for SAP AIX Customers?
    I am trying to look into this functionality called Data Junction to pull data into Unix and would appreciate help from people who has used it before?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    I'm still a little bit puzzled, what you are going to achieve. But if a MS SQLServer datasource (DS) in NW might help you, here it goes:
    1. Outlook: i will describe a DS setup to a SQL Sever 2000, using resources (drivers), already shipped with NW
    2. Steps
    2a. Define the driver library as follow
    - open visual admin and navigate in the cluster tree to JDBC Service, using the path "Server" / "Services" / "JDBC Connector"
    - In "Runtime" tab select in "Deployed Libraries" the library "com.sap.datadirect" and click in the toolbar the "<-" button, these will define "com.sap.datadirect" as driver library
    2b. Define a DS as follow
    - again in "Runtime" tab select "Data Sources" node and click in the toolbar the "new document" button to initiate DS creation
    - in the "Main" tab fill properties as follow
      . Name=MY_SQLSERVER_DS
      . JDBC Version=1.x
      . Driver Class=com.sap.portals.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver
      . Database URL=jdbc:sap:sqlserver://<change-2-your-db-server-host>:1433;MaxPooledStatements=150;SelectMethod=cursor
      . User=<change-2-your-db-login-user>
      . Password=<change-2-your-password>
    - in the "Additional" tab keep the defaults and change certain properties as follow
      . Expiration=check
      . Connection lifetime=600
      . Cleanup Thread=300
      . SQL Engine=Vendor SQL
    - save and check in tab "Monitoring", if the initial connection shows a green, running thread
    Hope this helps a bit

  • When Instant Client for AIX 5L 32 and HP-UX PA-RISC 32 are released?

    Does anyone know when Instant Client for AIX 5L 32 might be release?
    and also, Instant Client for HP-UX PA-RISC 32 ?

    There isn't much to check. This is the Instant Client and it was downloaded specifically for the 32-bit PA-RISC platform. The "documentation" simply says I should set the "LD_LIBRARY_PATH" environment variable to include the directory where I unzipped the files. It is obviously looking at the libraries when I load my application, otherwise I would get a different type of error message along the lines of "missing Oracle client". FYI, This is not one of the newer 8x00 chips which support 64-bit addressing, but that is the point of the 32-bit option. I assumed this was compiled for my platform (which more specifically is an HP PA-RISC 7300LC 160MHz processor with 768MB RAM). I know this isn't the most modern box, but I would like to have a simple lab environment for my ERP application and save the hassle and additional expense of aquiring a 64-bit compatible workstation. I figure what I have works well with my application, and there is no 9i 32-bit client...so why not try the 10g Instant Client which should be backwards compatible with my database. BTW, the database is not running on this box, it's on a remote server which does support 64-bit and happens to be running Oracle 9.2.0.4.

  • Which oracle client for aix 6 xi31 sp3?

    I need oracle client 10.2 for a installation of xi31 sp3 on aix 6 with an oracle 11g db in order for ldap to work properly.
    My apologies for my lack of DB (oracle) experience,  however, can someone please tell me which file I need for this and the associated link to download it?

    Hi,
       Please explain in more details what do you mean "which files"?
       If you mean getting the physical files, then :
          To download BOE XI 3.1 with SP3, you need to log onto the SAP Support Portal (aka: Service Market Place) - http://service.sap.com/
          The Oracle D/B and the Oracle client will need to come from Oracle website. You will need to check with Oracle to see how you can get your hands on the files.
          As for AIX 6.1, I assumed that should already been setup since you quoted that in your last note.

  • Microsoft ODBC for Oracle / Microsoft Server 2008 r2

    We are testing the operational system Windows Server 2008 r2 in one of our clients. This system does not accept the installation of the tool Microsoft ODBC for Oracle. We’d like to know how to install this Driver, once Microsoft’s webpage does not mention any help related to this issue (there is instruction only for the installation of MDAC). We’ve consulted discussion forums and all types of ocurrence on the Internet, but we started to think it’s a Bug of the version. Can you inform us what’s the solution for the problem?
    We are looking forward to your answer.

    user5459571 wrote:
    We have new webservers (Microsoft Server 2008 r2 64bit) that will need to connect to a variety of Oracle databases.
    Our DBAs have provided:
    10204_vista_w2k8_x64_production_client
    We have installed it, but, notice that the Microsoft ODBC for Oracle driver is not listed.
    It would be better for us to use the Oracle client, but, we do need to connect to Ticket Machines that are based on a Oracle v 8 database. (So, basically, if we use a 10g client trying to connect to a oracle 8 database, it will display the error: ORA-03134 Connections to this server version are no longer supported.)
    It is not possible for us to upgrade the Oracle 8 database to current, so, we have to use the Microsoft ODBC for Oracle driver.
    So, basically, we have a Oracle 8 database that we can not presently connect. (those machines are feeling abandoned)
    Ideas? ThanksIf you insist on using the MS driver, you'll have to get that from MS. Why would you have expected it to come with an Oracle installation?
    And to get the Oracle driver, you have to do a 'custom' installation and select the Windows components, as it is not installed with a default installation.
    And all that aside from the very serious version compatibility issues.

    Hi,
    I want to install Essbase 11.1.2.2 Client on Linux Redhat6_64/Aix7, I found a same problem on both of the platforms.

    Thanks a lot!
    Could you help me to figure out the following questions,please?
    1. Is Essbase 11.1.2.2 Client do not officially support installed alone on Linux/Unix platform?
    2. In the support file "How to Install the Essbase Client Tools MaxL and ESSCMD on a Planning Server Installed on Unix Server", I found that the Essbase server must be installed on a Linux platform first, if I install it on a Windows platform, there will be no such files:
    startMaxl.sh
    startEsscmd.sh
    setEssbaseEnv.sh
    so I cannot copy these to my created directory. So is that mean, if I want to install Essbase 11.1.2.2 client on a Linux Red hat6.0/Aix7.1, I must Firstly installed Essbase Server on another no-windows OS to get the above files?

  • Oracle 8.1.7 for AIX 3.5

    We are migrating to AIX 3.5 and our perl libraries require the Oracle 8.1.7 client and won't work with the newer clients.
    Is 8.1.7 for AIX available for download anywhere?

    Oracle's policy seems to be 'remove the download when the product becomes obsolete and unsupported'.
    Oracle8i has been unsupported for some time now. If you are lucky, a conversation with your Sales Rep and with Oracle Support might provide the software.

    But I must admit confusion - why upgrade pieces and expect the non-upgraded pieces to continue working without difficulty? Your mix-and-match approach is a recipie for long-term problem resolution opportunities

  • Differences between Oracle 10G Client ODBC from 10.1.x to 10.2.x (datatype)

    What differences where implemented to Oracle 10G Clients ODBC connectivity drivers between 10G Release 1 and Release 2 concerning datatypes?
    I have an application that performs a qualified read returning a group of records (this is successful) and then performs a delete on each record read. No errors occur on completion of the application. When using release 1, the records are physically removed. Using release 2 a portion of the same group of records are not removed. The key for the table is a numeric field with six decimal places (not my design). My applications C code defines the field as a DOUBLE.

    I certainly agree that something changed. The question is whether it was a change in function or not. With a lot of these sorts of errors, tracking down the "source" of the error involves finding a change in a piece of code that allowed what was always possible to actually occur. That is, you may have two pieces of code that are functionally identical but that end up allowing the sorts of "round off" errors that are always possible when using doubles. The driver might, for example, now be going down a code path where it shifts a number to the right or left rather than dividing or multiplying by 2, which may make this sort of thing more likely. Functionally, given that doubles don't guarantee infinite precision, these operations are identical, but one may be significantly more likely to cause problems.
    Is your application using the ODBC API directly? Or is it going through a higher-level API? If you are going through ODBC directly, you might look to see whether the data types that are being returned by the driver to your code are the same across driver versions.

    We are also interested in the very same thing. We are using third party compiler called SIMSCRIPT from CACI which has a module called SDBC for database connectivity. SDBC requires ODBC to be installed/configured. Our application is for Linux, therefore we are interested in using the ODBC driver on Linux clients to connect Oracle database servers on Linux and Sparc. I see the odbc related zip (for 10g) and rpm (for 11g) instant client files on the OTN Instant Client download page. How to install/configure odbc instant client? Is there a document/whitepaper/Metalink Note ?

  • Instant client ODBC package

    I'm trying to use the instant client odbc driver but seem to have a problem when calling SQLConnect. Here is my call to the function:
    SQLConnect(connHandle, database, SQL_NTS, username, SQL_NTS, password, SQL_NTS)
    The username and password are passed correctly but for some reason the database (SID) is not. When I specify the SID in TWO_TASK it works fine. Here is the connect string from cli.trc when not specifying the SID in TWO_TAKS:
    (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=beq)(PROGRAM=/home/oracle/instantclient/bin/oracle)(ARGV0=oracletest3)(ARGS='(DESCRIPTION=(LOCAL=YES)(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=beq)))')(DETACH=NO))(CONNECT_DATA=(CID=(PROGRAM=db2xml)(HOST=XXXXXXX)(USER=root))))
    Any idea why I wouldn't be able to specify the SID in the SQLConnect function but I'm able to with TWO_TASK?
    Thanks.

    Are you only having this problem when using Instant Client, rather than the full client?

    I did the search for 16 bit in it and found some interesting information.
    The other piece of information I can share is the Oracle 11 client has issues connecting to Oracle 9.
    An Oracle 10 clients might have a better chance, but the catch is finding it.
    The last client I remember working on these OS's was Oracle 8. But I doubt that will connect to Oracle 11.
