You should perform a 'Software Only' install. There is no 'Client Only' install available yet.

Have the SMTP server configured by your admin and create agent privilege given to your role. Then Schedule an Agents to yourself/Testuser with the report to be sent to external user as its Content. Set up the Delivery Profile of the recipient. In the set up for email device - delivery profile specify the external email address. This might be useful

Installing Des.6i on already existing 8i home

Hello All,
I have Windows 2000 client with Oracle 8i client tolls already installed, I am trying to install designer 6i which needs another oracle home other than Oracle 8i home. I have created another Oracle home by editing registry and the designer 6i installation gets terminated with a message explaining that it cannot work with multiple oracle homes.
The remedy that I can only see is to remove all existing oracle homes with the products and then start with installing designer 6i first followed by Oracle 8i into its own home.
I want to install designer on a few clients where the 8i already exists and if you guys know any other easier way please do let me know so that I can avoid de-installation.

You may do some tricks with the Windows Registry or just wait for Designer 6i Release 2 which supports multiple homes.
According OTN it should have arrived last December. If you beleive in Oracle's commitment wait a bit. Can't tell how long.

I can able to install obiee11g on windows 32 but after installaion it points directly to odbc32 so from here how to go? can i go for System DSN or else what?

How to open (run) report on client in excel ?

Hello experts,
i am using ERP having forms 10g and database 10g.
in current scenario , when i run report , i will run in PDF format.
when there is need to convert it in Excel then i have to use software Rep2Excel.exe software in d2k's HTML folder (form->tolls->web->html)folder on oracle server . and has to call with report with rp2rro package. report convert in excel and save in html folder
in excel. so i have to access server to get the excel file.
now i am plan that when i run oracle report in excel than it open in excel at clients system.
below is the code which i used at button use to convert in excel from rdf report

_Pls follow these guide lines for ensuring proper output in Microsoft Excel:
1.First compare the fields properties and the frames properties between the reports created with wizard and the reports created manually.
2. Do not leave any space between two adjacent objects.
Explanation: Because any space, including a few pixels, between two adjacent objects will result in an empty cell or column in Excel output
3.Make sure that the widths of all objects are vertically consistent.
Explanation: If the objects are not exactly aligned vertically, that is, have inconsistent widths, it is likely to result in insertion of unwanted cells/columns in Excel.
4. Pls. Make sure that the vertical elasticity of the frames and repeating frames is not fixed unless you are sure you have allocated enough space to accommodate all the records.
Explanation: If you set the Vertical Elasticity property of a frame to Fixed, the output in Excel will show only as many records as could appear on the first page of the paper output. Since Excel does not have a page concept, it is not able to overflow the remaining rows to the next page.
5. For reliable formatting of spreadsheet output, enclose the whole layout area in a frame.
Explanation: This action prevents the possibility of parallel objects displaying in different vertical positions, one following the other.

I have an immediate requirement from my client as following.
I have prompts : Year, Month,Quarter and Date between
When the user selects an year --> then the headcount is calculated as following either Annulized/Monthlyor quarterly
HC= Sum(headcount of each day in that selected year) / No of days in the year
Similarly for Month,Quarter and date between.
If this is computed then I can apply the same logic for FTE calculation.
Any inputs or help greatly appreciated.

SumantaIf you have a listener on host BLRD025AL1, and that listener knows about a service named 'sumanta', then you don't need to do anything to your tnsnames.ora to use it with Toad -- or any other client tool. You just have to provide the correct connect string.

Any oracle errors (ora-nnnnn or tns-nnnnn)?

Oracle 11g Client for OBIEE 11.1.1.6 installation in AIX

I have two servers : Server A & Server B.
AIX- Server A holds database & AIX-Sever B : I need to install OBIEE11.1.1.6
My question is do I need to install Oracle client in OBIEE server B to communicate with Database server A as my metadata schema ( MDS, BIPLATFORM) will be in ServerA.
Also I came to know that while installaing OBIEE11g , teh installer takes care of the Oracle client configuration ....under folder OracleB1. thus no need to install oracle client separately before installaing obiee11g.
Pls. let me now.

I am a SAP BW consultant just started and willing to learn from Other expereiences.
I want to know certain things which might have occured to so many of you
1. In an ERP environment, How SAP BW migration from other External Data Warehouses will benefit to the Customer in terms of Improving his Profitablilty or Increasing the Stock Index in the MACRO level.
2. Do we have a comparison statement kind of a thing vis a vis Other ERP tools which strongly suggest SAP BW has an edge over others.
3. How one can convince the Client in case if he agrees to have a Netweaver 2004S and BW implementation but still wants to use the Other Multi Legacy Systems Synergistically for some reasons or other / simply got used for so long
which really impact the scope of Design and Implementations for both the Service Provider as well as the Client.
4. I really want to play with the Data available in the Landscape to effectively make best use of it and project to the Client a Transformation which he can expect from Multi Dimenstion. Show me the direction.
5. Suggest me a logical way to only Understand SAP BW without any diversions so as to Concentrate working on the SAP BW environment and also appreciate the Client Point of View or Satisfaction.

Answers to your questions:
1. BW is data warehouse tool which has reporting and analytic capabilities. It also has the capability of engaging SEM with it. Which means that BW is a veery powerful toll for a company to use if they want to do a better analysis on past data and help top executies make dicision and also with the help of SEM there capability of forcasting is improved to a great extent. Accurate forcasting is the key to better business and high profits.
2. It really depends on the need.CAgnos needs lot of memory as it copies the data in the front end for more flexibilty in reporting. SAP BW is good with respect to SAP R/3. Other areas (Interface with other sources) It is evolving in better manner.Other Data warehousing tools more maintenance man power and big team to implimenting. And all components like sourcing , Configuring and reporting does not depend on single product. BW has all the components available with in it.Depends on customer needs you have decide.
3. Not sure abt it.
4. Data modeling is a SAP course(TBW30) on its own and cannot be explained in a one liner. If you have a specific case then may be we can have a look at it.
5. I would suggest you go through the SAP trainign material . That is a step by step guide to you.

InDesign - Potential Client Abuse

Hi there,
Please let me know if I am way out of line here. I am very new at this.
My client is an insurance company. They have several clients who need brochures for their products. All of the brochures are to be branded with each client company's logo, per usage guidelines, etc. This insurance company has someone on staff who, "knows the basics of InDesign" but is incapable of producing an original piece so they hired me. Based on their comments from the past few days, I now have a strong suspicion that my client is going to take the brochure I designed and use it as a template for all of their other clients. Because the client originally turned over this particular client's previous brochure in InDesign, in our agreement I agreed to turn over the InDesign files for the new brochure.
So, based on this convoluted description, is there anything I can/should do? Is there anything I can do to the file to make it difficult for them to use it as a template? During the negotiations for the agreement, I made it clear that even though I was turning over the native application files, that the art, fonts, photos, etc. could only be legally used for this particular piece. Nothing could be used for another client and nothing could be used for another purpose for this client.
Should I just accept whatever comes? If they decide to break the law (my agreement does say that I am not liable for other use, etc.) and steal my work and the work and property of others, should I just be grateful I'm not working with them any more?

You're right, and I'm stupid and naive. It's funny, because when I was talking to my wife about this, she said aroundabout the same thing (although it can be hard at times like these to fully grasp her point while fighting the overwhelmingness of her exasperation) -- if it's written down, then you can take legal action but it won't be worth it. I must be living in a dream world but, I mean, if I buy For Whom the Bell Tolls from Barnes & Noble, that's OK because they purchased the right to sell that book to me, and I can read it. But if I make 50 copies and sell them thinking it's OK because I'm only making the copies from the book I purchased -- who thinks like that besides crooks? Why in heavens name does Insurance Giant, Inc. need it written down in a contract that it can't break the law? I'm acting as if I'm selling lemonade behind a painted surfboard here...I better wake up!

OBIEE Installation and configuring Client tools.

I have installed OBIEE 11.1.1.6.0 and oracle 11g on Linux machine, and my client tools are installed on my local machine.
So know i need to configure both, suppose i have created a rpd file on my local machine and i want to create analysis in my OBIEE web console in Linux machine.
Actually i am quite new to OBIEE, so if you guys elaborate this step by step it would be helpful to me.

Hi,
Make sure your java version (it should be jdk/jrockit 1.6.0_31 and above) and looback adaptor (static ip) setted
try to make sure below steps also,
1. Install a 64-bit JDK for your operating system, for example jrockit-jdk1.6.0_31-R28.2.3-4.1.0 64bit type
2. Install Weblogic Server10.3.5/6 (using the generic installer) and select the 64-bit JDK installed in step 1
Example installaing weblogic 10.3.6

Obiee11g installation Scaleout , second managed not able to start

we have installed Obiee11g on server1, now we are scaling out with another installation on server2.
for server1 all services are running fine, but when installing on server2 its not starting managed server.
