Clients Connect to N AP's on 5508 and get different Transfer rates than on 4404
I have have 2x 4404's (2x) and 2x 5508's all are running 7.0.240.0. When I take an 1142 and associate it to a 4404 I can connect a test client using N at 144Mbps and I can get transfer rates averaging 70Mbps (using iperf tests). When I take the same AP and associate it to a 5508, (same SSID, etc) I connect at 144Mbps but only get average 6Mbps transfer rates. I get the same results with 1252's. I get the same results if I wipe the config on the 5508 and start from scratch. It only happens when connecting at a/n, when I use a b/g AP such as 1132 I connect at 54Mbps on either controller and get transfer rates of 24Mbps. I have enabled disabled LAG (rebooted), moved the 5508 to connect to the same swtich ports, swapped GBICs. The issue happens on both 5508s, TAC has been unable to resolve this and they are confused as well.
Some of the other things I have tried:
•- You are facing the issue on 5508's WLC only.
•- Both the WLC and the client reports high connection speed “144Mbps”
•- iPerf between wireless and wired showed the following:
on 4400: [124] 0.0-16.9 sec 154 MBytes 76.5 Mbits/sec
On 5500: [124] 0.0-94.3 sec 70.2 MBytes 6.25 Mbits/sec
•- The AP is the same AP, you just bounce it from 1 WLC to another.
•- The location of the AP is the same in all the tests, but it can be replicated with an 1142 anywhere on site and get the same results.
•- The test PC is the same in both cases
•- The configuration is the same on both WLC’s confirmed visaully in GUI and via CLI outputs and compaired.
•- The switch is the same, but have tired swapping 4404 and 5508 in data center.
•- Tried to swap the GBICs.
•- Used different ports on the 5508 (not just diff GBICs)
•- Disabled the LAG to rule out the load balancing algorithm.
•- Replaced the patch cables
Used same ip space that the 4404 is using without sucess.
Upgraded my second 5508 to version 7.5 and exact same resutls.
Any ideas?
Hi
In my 5508 WLC i have exactly the same problem as you gsutherland
I tried apply this command config 802.11b 11nSupport a-mpdu tx priority all disable
and i get message
"802.11b network not disabled"
Why i must turn off b standard ?

Connect from Windows through screen sharing (VNC) and get out of full screen mode
How do you get out of fullscreen mode?
I connect to a OS X Lion computer through a Windows computer (which actually also is remote).
I use TightVNC software on Windows to connect. It's the only VNC software I am able to connect to OS X Lion with. TightVNC is kind of weak otherwise in the way that it does not have features for OS X targets - like you can't send "command" key pushes, or even Ctrl pushes and other F2 etc keys just don't really work.
Which means I cannot exit full screened apps by way of Command-F or similar. Moving the mouse cursor to the top of the screen also does not pop down the menu (although on some occasions I have been able to do this, I'm not sure how and it's terribly hard to reproduce).
I'd need a on-screen way (like a button to click) to get out of full screen mode.
Any ideas???Are you using TightVNC because you found it was the only VNC client that worked well with Mac OS X built-in VNC server? Or is there another reason?
Vine Server (aka OSXvnc - free to use the server)
<http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/11283/vine-server-%26-viewer>
plays nicer with 3rd party VNC clients, so that you could try any number of other WIndows VNC clients. Maybe one of those will do a better job of sending Command/Control/Option keys.
But if you do install Vine server make sure you turn off Mac OS X Screen Sharing (and/or Remote Managment) so that you do not conflict with port 5900. Or via Vine Server configs, tell Vine Server to use a different port number, such as 5901, then make sure you connect to the correct port from your Windows client. -
What do I need to connect my white macbook to my TV and get audio?
I have Macbook 6,1. Upgraded with a OS X Lion 10.7.2.
I have bought the Kanex Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable with aduio support. I have been successful in hooking it up, to allow the display to work but I can not seem to get audio. I have found through research, that this might be because my macbook is too old, and does not have the correct hardware to send audio through this cable......is there a secondary cable that I can get to connect my audio? If you have the Late 2009 model 6,1 White Unibody with the MiniDisplay Port there is an adapter that can combine video and audio to HDMI.

I mean have you synced with a different computer than the computer that gave you this message in iTunes? Or is this the second computer that you are trying to sync with?
If it is - that is why you are getting that message. You can only sync with one iTunes library at a time. If you sync with another iTunes library, iTunes will erase the current contents of the device. -
Clients unable to connect and get DHCP - LAP1142N AP and 5508 WLC
Hi,
I have 19 locations, each with 1 or more LAP1142N AP's in FlexConnect mode, AP's are primed using CAPWAP to my 5508 WLC at the datacenter. The AP's join the WLC without issue every time. I have two WLAN's, one guest and one staff, the guest network is open and obtains DHCP from a WatchGuard XTM33 firewall at each of the remote locations. The staff side is WPA2/RADIUS and DHCP is assigned from the WLC. Each AP is assigned a static IP that is not in the DHCP scope. For example: DHCP scope on the branch firewall is 192.168.1.10-250 the AP will be assigned static IP of 192.168.1.1.. The AP's are connected to a HP procurve switch that has a untagged VLAN, the firewall is using the native vlan 1 and so is the AP.
I have been running this network for over a year and it has not had a single issue until the last two weeks. Nothing on the network has changed or has been upgraded.
Now for the issue: The issue I am seeing is that clients are no longer able to connect to the AP and do not get DHCP assigned to them. I am able to get it working, if I remove the static IP from the AP, the AP will reboot, join the controller, then begin working, users can connect and DHCP is assigned from the firewall as it should. However, If the AP then reboots, the AP will join back to the controller but no clients can connect nor do they get a DHCP address. So, I then reassign a static IP to the AP again and it reboots, connects to the controller and clients then can connect and get DHCP.
Attached is a running config from one of the APs
I've found several posts on this topic, in fact the patch of unassigning or reassigning static IP is one that I found. However, I wanted to post this to see if there is any further assistance I can get on this. I am also waiting on my SmartNet to start up and will be contacting Cisco support as well.
Thanks for any help.Alright, so I finally figured out the issue with this. I had a Mobility Anchor set on the guest WLAN and once I removed that all started working again.
What is Mobility Anchor?
A. Mobility Anchor, also referred to as Guest tunneling or Auto Anchor Mobility, is a feature where all the client traffic that belongs to a WLAN (Specially Guest WLAN) is tunneled to a predefined WLC or set of controllers that are configured as Anchor for that specific WLAN. This feature helps to restrict clients to a specific subnet and have more control over the user traffic. Refer to the Configuring Auto-Anchor Mobility section of Cisco Wireless LAN Controller Configuration Guide, Release 7.0 for more information on this feature. -
WLC 5508 and WPA/WPA2 causes client DNS lookups to fail
Hi all, we just recently received a brand new 5508 with 6.0.199.4 firmware. We currently have three LAP-1250s that associate just fine to the WLC.
For testing purposes only, we enabled WPA2 with both types of encryption TKIP and AES with an ASCII PSK. The clients are able to connect, authenticate and get an IP address from our local (same subnet) DHCP server. They also get the DNS info from our DHCP server. However, the problem is that they are not able to do any DNS lookups. I haven't run wireshark yet to confirm, but it sounds very familiar to this problem: https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/3202369
I've even had clients use nslookup with both of my DNS servers and they are not able to resolve. I'm not sure if the request or the reply is being blocked/dropped, but I can find out tomorrow.
Now the strange part - if I turn off WLAN security altogether, it works! That's right, I just disable L2 security for the WLAN and re-connect the clients and they are able to do full DNS lookups.
AND - if I leave L2 security configured (WPA2 with PSK), and enable L3 Passthrough security - the clients get to the auth web page, click the "accept" button and are then able to do full DNS lookups too.
What could be the problem here? There's nothing I see configured for the L2 or L3 security settings that could be the culprit. We're using default (from Cisco) configuration, so there's no ACLs configured or anything like that to block DNS.
Another strange thing here which may or not be related - during initial configuration the setup asked for a virtual IP - so I gave it one - 1.1.2.2. Now when I do an ipconfig /all on the client, I see this 1.1.2.2 address listed as the DHCP server. Why is this? It's definitely getting an IP address and DNS info from the correct DHCP server, so not sure why this is showing up.

Hi Matt,
Just wanted to jump in, and also mention it may be worth attempting to disable the fastpath feature on the 5508, and test your failing client again. You may be hitting CSCti34667.
debug fastpath cfgtool --fc.disable
This command can be run via Telnet/SSH. Please keep in mind that fastpath will automatically re-enable periodically, so we recommend disabling every 10 minutes as a workaround for any known fastpath issues. You can do so by running the following Macro in TeraTerm:
:mainloop
sendln "debug fastpath cfgtool --fc.disable"
pause 600
goto mainloop
If you find that disabling fastpath resolves your concern, you can reach out to TAC for an Escalation Image with the fix for this one.
Best,

Hi,
I'm having problems with a wireless device losing connection to the AP. I was thinking monitoring the signal strength of the client might be helpful, but I haven't figured out how to do that yet...
AP: Aironet 1240AG
Client: Cisco WET200 Wireless Bridge.
Connected to the bridge are 2 printers and a lightly used pc. The only network usage from the pc is remote desktop. The bridge is no more than 20ft from the AP, however there is a wall separating them. A carrier busy test comes up almost completely clear, the ap is in a remote area.
I set up a syslog server, here is the log when the connection is lost:

The current uptime on both devices goes back much farther than the connectivity issues above, so it doesn't seem to be a power problem.HI Dustin,
Non-Cisco WGB Support
Starting in release 7.0.116.0, the controller software has been updated to accommodate non-Cisco workgroup bridges so that the controller can forward ARP, DHCP, and data traffic to and from the wired clients behind workgroup bridges. This processes is accomplished by enabling the passive client feature. To configure your controller to work with non-Cisco workgroup bridges, you must enable the passive clients feature. All traffic from the wired clients is routed through the work group bridge to the access point.
Note The Non-Cisco WGB feature is supported only on the 5508, 2500 and 2100 Controllers. NPU based platforms (4400/wism/3750w) do not support this feature.
please verify if you are satisfying the above conditions,
Thanks,

Howto block p2p traffic of clients connected to the same ssid on different wlc
Hi all,
I use two wlc 4400 (4.2.x version) with a mobility domain and one ssid, both wlc are connected to a cisco l2 switch infrastructure. On the wlc I use the p2p blocking action 'drop' (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/controller/5.2/configuration/guide/c52wlan.html#wp1209597) to isolate the clients from each other. Does anybody know if only unicast traffic is blocked or also multicast and broadcast traffic like arp requests?
Concerning blocking p2p traffic of clients connected to the same ssid but different controllers I found the following statement in the LAP FAQs (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/wireless/ps430/products_qanda_item09186a00806a4da3.shtml):
===
Q. In autonomous APs, Public Secure Packet Forwarding (PSPF) is used to avoid client devices associated to this AP from inadvertently sharing files with other client devices on the wireless network. Is there any equivalent feature in Lightweight APs?
A. The feature or the mode that performs the similar function of PSPF in lightweight architecture is called peer-to-peer blocking mode. Peer-to-peer blocking mode is actually available with the controllers that manage the LAP. If this mode is disabled on the controller (which is the default setting), it allows the wireless clients to communicate with each other through the controller. If the mode is enabled, it blocks the communication between clients through the controller. It only works among the APs that have joined to the same controller. When enabled, this mode does not block wireless clients terminated on one controller from the ability to get to wireless clients terminated on a different controller, even in the same mobility group.
===
Does anybody know what's the best practise to prevent this inter wlc client traffic? I already read about using acls on the wlc dynamic interfaces, or private vlans on the l2 switch vlans where the dynamic interfaces are connected to. Is it allowed to completely isolate the wlc from each other on these dynamic interfaces with acls or private vlans or do the wlc need to see each other on this interfaces (e.g. heart beat)?
Many thanks in advance,
ThorstenHi Sasha,Thorsten
The bug is Junked and I believe which is what you are running into with your tests:
CSCtr60787 WLC P2P Blocking Set to Forward-UpStream Doesn't Work.
Bugtoolkit : http://tools.cisco.com/Support/BugToolKit/action.do?hdnAction=searchBugs
To answer your original query :
ACL is only solution to block client communication on same ssid between 2 wlcs. 5508 works better with ACLs then 44xx platform.
ARP requests will be forwarded to upstream router just like any other traffic. WLC won't proxy arp for clients on same vlan.
Gateway arp's I believe should be handled by WLC . ( Don't quote me on this but I am pretty sure it is ) ..If it was not, then how would client know about gw ?
Multicast traffic is not applicable for p2p.
Your ACL can be as simple as this for the scenario :
WLC 1 - clientvlan = 10
WLC 2 - clientvlan = 10
and you want to restrict users from wlc1-wlc1, wlc1-wlc2, wlc2-wlc2 for same vlan10.
Basically in that case the ACL should look like on both WLCs :
1. Permit statement to talk to gateway.
2. Deny to subnet.
3. Permit all.
4. If DHCP/DNS other services are on same subnet then you would need to add a permit
statement before the deny.
5. Attach the ACL to SSID or dymanic interface.
Thanks..Salil

Since proxy-arp is disabled on that interface, it will never work

I can deploy same software fine to other machines connecting on LAN.

Remote access VPN clients connected to Internet from VPN
Greetings,
I need to let remote VPN clients to connect to Internet from the same ASA VPN server
" client connects to ASA through VPN tunnel from outside interface then access Internet from the same ASA from outside interface again
thanksyou'll need to configure 'same-security-traffic permit intra-interface' on the ASA .
Also, need to setup the corresponding nat statements for your clients pool range.
i.e.
global (outside) 1 interface
nat (outside) 1 access-list anyconnectacl
where anyconnectacl is the pool for your clients:
access-list anyconnectacl permit ip 172.16.1.0 255.255.255.0 any -
regarding mountain lion server: clients experience intermittent service connections. the server system log has the following error- Client handshake failed (6):113: Server not accepting client connections. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated - thank you
Hi Jason
I was getting the same behavior after Apple support had me delete some plist files to get Airplay going. I was also getting the following error:
the error occurred while processing a command of type 'writesettings' in the plug-in 'server vpn'
I went into ~/Library/Preferences/ and /Library/Preferences/ and deleted every plist contating the word server. I had to re-set up my server (meaning walk through some intial steps) but all of my settings were still there after that and everything started working again.
Just a thought, obviously try at your own risk but it worked for me.

How to make the client connect to the server at the command prompt?
I found this code on IBM's website, it was a training session on servers and clients using java.
The code compiles fine and the server seems to start up properly when I use java Server 5000. I think whats happening is the server is running and listening for a connection on port 5000.
When I try to run the client I get the following error.
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: main
I see a start() method but no main. As far as I know, applications should all have main, it seems as if the person who wrote this kinda confused applets with application. Not that I would really know what happened.
If you have time, could you tell me if there's an easy fix for this? I would love to have this client/server working if it isn't too much trouble. As I have looked all over the net for a free client/server applet that will actually let me see the java code and none of the free ones do allow getting to their source.
Most of them allow you to customize them somewhat but also have built in advertising that can't be removed.
This is the closest I have come to finding one that lets me look under the hood. But alas it doesn't work out of the box and I don't know what to do to fix it.
Heres the code: Server:
