Clips repeatedly missing linkage in browser

Despite preference trashes and restarts and permission repairs and pram zaps I cannot get rid of this issue:
Every time I relaunch FCP there is a series of 12 clips in my project--same 12 clips--that show up in the browser with the dreaded red window telling me "camera missing." For some reason Relink Files isn't working but was does work is just opening the Import window and navigate to where the parent files are and, magically, the thumbnails for those clips start to appear in the browser again. I don't even have to tell it to do anything. They just relink.
Annoying! Any solutions out there?

Thanks, Tom.
Did you look at the fcp.co thread?
You assume correctly about DVCPRO HD.... to clarify, I am shooting on the Panasonic HPX-170 camera, recording onto 64GB P2 cards. P2 is Panasonic's proprietary solid state media format, and DVCPRO HD is Panasonic's proprietary codec for P2.
My problem, which I have observed and tried to fix over time, is that any format recorded to P2 requiring pulldown removal (as in frame rates of 59.96, 29.97, 23.98, i.e., NTSC spec) will have this problem. The "remove pulldown" box should be checked, of course. But that never solved my problem. Moreover, the footage is corrupted in the Original Media folder.
I am guessing this is some trouble with FCPX negotiating Panasonic's metadata for P2 pulldown?
The problem goes away with footage shot in camera at 720P/24PN (or 30PN), which means 24 (or 30) "native" frames per second -- that is, the footage does not need a pulldown pattern. (There is no "N" setting for 1080).
Today I dragged the CONTENTS folder from a P2 card to a folder on the desktop of a new imac running OSX 10.9.2 and FCPX 10.1.3. A 22GB/1.25 hr piece of footage on the P2 card can be scrubbed in the Import window viewer, and it plays conspicuously fast when played with the space bar, but only 3 or 4 minutes (varies if I try it a couple times) will actually import.
It is a nasty problem.

  • Can anyone help me...Why Can't I open a compound clips containing missing files?

I Have been using FCPX for only a short time and I have a few unfinished projects on the go. But after tidying up an reorganising my hard drives putting FCPx Projects and Events on an external drive. I find some of my projects with compound clips show this horrid warning icon for "missing files". I am want to relink  the missing clips but FCPX will not allow me to open the compound clips so I could see what are the missing ones... so, can anyone help find a way to re-link or recover those missing files.

File browser? You mean the compound clip is in the project but not in the event? What version of the software are you using?
Select the compound clip and use Clip>Reference New Parent Clip. Does that work? Try relinking the project files.

  • Making a Project Clip Repeat

Is there a way to make a clip of a project I am working on in the timeline repeat itself over and over again the way it does in the Events rather than moving on to the next clip?

If i highlight a clip in the timeline and start the skimmer at its beginning by pushing the spacebar or the L key or the play key in the view when the clip completes itself in the viewer the play just goes on to the next clip in the timeline.  I would like it to go back to the beginning of the clip selected  and have it keep repeating itself.  A clip repeats itself over and over again in the Event browser when I push the space bar but not in the timeline.  Is there a way I can make an individual clip I highlight in the timeline repeat itself.  I get nothing when I push CMD-L and when I push the  I key it  just moves the selected portion inward for editing.

  • Moving and copying events and projects to an external hard drive using Imovie09-Source clip is missing

Some background on what I am doing is importing all of my home video into an event in IMovie. Since DVD's can only hold about 2 hours of footage, I am making a new project for each 2 hours so I can burn the footage onto a DVD. I want to make space on my internal hard drive so I am trying to move the projects that are completed to an external drive. Because I also don't want to lose any footage I have imported into the event I am also copying the home video event to the external drive. (didn't want to move it yet until I know what i am doing, just in case it is lost somehow).
I tried moving a project to the external drive (it was a slideshow for my daughters first birthday which contained photos and video clips from the event that was already copied to the external drive). The project did move to the external hard drive but on the video clips there is a yellow triangle that says source clip is missing. I am moving and copying from within Imovie and NOT the finder so I don't understand why it says the clip is missing when it is definitely a part of the event that is already on the external drive.
What is interesting is the source clip is missing error showed on the first birthday project but it did NOT show as an error when I moved the 2 hour home video project. (All of the video in these projects are coming from the same home video event)
I am trying to make sure that when I move the projects permanently off the internal hard drive and onto the external drive, that I am not losing any part of my projects. I want to be able to easily move them back and forth if needed without any missing files.
Any suggestions as to why I am still receiving the yellow triangle?

As I can't see what you are doing, I can't tell you what you might be doing wrong.
You could try trashing the preferences.
Many weird things happen as a result of corrupt preferences which can create a vast range of different symptoms, so whenever FCP X stops working properly in any way, trashing the preferences should be the first thing you do using this free app.
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/
Shut down FCP X, open PreferenceManager and in the window that appears:-
    1. Ensure that only  FCP X  is selected.
    2. Click Trash
The job is done instantly and you can re-open FCP X.
There is absolutely no danger in trashing preferences and you can do it as often as you like.
The preferences are kept separately from FCP X and if there aren't any when FCP X opens it automatically creates new ones  .  .  .  instantly.

  • All of a sudden, I can't watch any of my films from the Event Library, it also says 'Source Clip is missing' in the other window, I haven't even touched anything that I know of?

All of a sudden, I can't watch any of my films from the Event Library, it also says 'Source Clip is missing' in the other window, I haven't even touched anything that I know of?

    Hi
I haven't even touched anything that I know of?
And You've not moved or emptied any folder on Your Hard Disk named
    • iMovie Event's - or -
    • iMovie Project's
Or - disconnected any external hard disk/s
As one CAN NOT move the Event's or Project's on / via DeskTop/Finder - AS iMovie then loses the connection to them. Moving them - MUST BE DONE - within iMovie application - to work OK.
So if You by meaning or accident moved it/them - Move them back - and iMovie might work again.
ELSE - If You are 100% sure that You didn't move them then
    • Trash iMovie Pref and Cache files
    • Run Repair Permissions - Disk Util tool
    • Run Repair Hard Disk - Disk Util tool - BUT YOU MUST Start-Up Your Mac from DVD or External HD to do this
and may be all will work OK again

  • Single clip repeated 4 times in FCP timeline. SP 2 issue

    Hi all,
Single clip repeated 4 times in FCP timeline, when I apply an effect to clip for in SP2 its applying it to all three clips? Why?

That's the way it works. You have 4 instances of one thing, you change one you change them all.
What you want to do is first Clip>Replace with Independent Audio File Project (this creates a new copy of that one instance).
Then when you effect that clip it is not affecting the other 3 files, just the new one you've created.
I suppose one could argue that the program should do that for you, after all some other program I use works that way - it creates a new file while not affecting the others (actually it gives you the option of both methods). Feel free to file a feedback request.

  • The sound in the middle of the clip was missing.

    Dear Adobe Premiere Pro friends,
Can anyone help me, recently I have the problem when I have succeed imported the clip, some of the clips was missing the sound at the middle up to the end of the clip.
The clip was imported are MTS taken from my Panasonic Camcoder HVC 550.
    Awaiting the advice.
    Tks & B/regards,
    Handjojo

Assuming you're running iPhoto 9 or later do the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
    2 - run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

  • In Imovie I get the message that my source clip is missing so I can't work/view the project

What do I do if I get a source clip is missing message in Imovie?

Well you need to reimport the original of missing clip into iMovie.
    Geoff.

  • I am having trouble with Imovie I finished my project but when i try to play it it says "source clip is missing" Help!

it says "source clip is missing" Help!

    Hi
Did You move or alter any folder named
    • iMovie Event's - or
    • iMovie Project's
on DeskTop/Finder - if so - You must not do that - try to put all back
Did You in iMove trash any Event's - then don't - try to get them back by looking in trash-basket on DESKTOP. Move them out and back into iMovie Event's.
This problem might be due to the idea that there is a copy/movie in the Project - it's not !
You are using a NON-Destructive Video Editing program (all behaves in this way) and that means that PROJECT's are only a small text document pointing to What material You want to use, Where it is located e.g. in iMovie Event's - and how it's meant to be played.
If You move or delete any of the raw material - the Project will point to an empty space = Can Not be played.
WILDLY GUESSING - PLEASE no Offence ! (I've been here and done this - so I guess in this way)
    Yours Bengt W

  • IMovie keeps a clip I deleted within Event Browser

I’ve experienced this situation now several times, reproducibly on my MBPro (10.9.4) using iMovie 10.0.4:
In Event Browser I select a clip in one of the Events.  Right-click, select Move to Trash.
The clip disappears from the Event Browser window.
Then I look in the Trash folder and the clip file is not in the Trash.
I look in the iMovie library,   iMovie Library.imovielibrary/ and see that the clip file is still there.
I can close and reopen iMovie and the situation is unchanged.
(How I can look in the iMovie Library is described here:  https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6474021)
Can someone tell me what I might be doing wrong?
In any case I would suggest that, on deleting a clip using the Event Browser, it would be worthwhile occasionally to check in the Trash folder and verify that the file has been moved to the Trash, so that when the Trash is emptied, the space occupied by that clip is released.    This would be a quick way to show that you don’t have the  problem I’m having.

Here is a solution to the problem:
In the Finder -> Go -> Go to Folder,
    enter   /Users/Your user name//Movies/iMovie Library.imovielibrary/Name of Event/
(Name of Event is exactly as it appears in the Event Browser)
    Select Go
This takes you to the folder in iMovie Library for that event, and you will see the contents of that folder as several folders and perhaps a file.  One of the folders is Original Media.  Open that folder and you will see individual files of the individual clips contained in that Event.   Delete the file of choice in the usual OS X way. iI will then appear in the Trash folder.  Empty the trash and it is gone.
This solution was suggested by Shirt Pocket Support, which provides technical help for the backup app SuperDUper.  I am indebted to them.

  • Help! "Source clip is missing..." iMovie 11 for Mac and, alas, urgent.

How do I find out the file name of the original clip(s) so I can reconnect them (somehow?) to iMovie? I have no idea whether I moved them. It may be that I am not saving iMovie 11 files the way you need to, e.g., I just moved all the freakin' folders off my internal hard drive and onto an external. All my other Projects are working fine. It's only the one I actually need that says "Source clip is missing."
I could go find it in Time Machine if I knew what I was looking for... or Spotlight... or do some kind of grep in Terminal at the Unix level.
Not that it's relevant to this question, but I'm running Snow Leopard on an iMac with 2.66 gig Intel Core Duo processor and 4 gigs of RAM.

i've read that one is supposed to hover over the yellow exclamation point icon to see the expected file/source clip that iMovie '11 is looking for. well, i hover and it just shows a date, no file name.
when i try to export a movie with missing clips, i get a dialogue box saying something like, "Some source clips are missing. In the exported movie, those will appear as black frames."  it lists the missing file name. i found a folder with that name, full of numbered clips, but putting it in iMovie Events didn't do a darned thing. how do i figure out *what* iMovie is looking for in terms of source clips, and *where* it wants those files/folders to be?

  • Latest version iMovie: cannot see clips in project OR event browser, but they are there in both libraries! So cannot create/edit/publish ANYTHING.

HI All. I have been having a HECK of a time with iMovie 11!!!  Converted a bunch of video to .mov format, imported into iMovie, and created a project. No problem. Finalized, and published to iTunes, no problem. Saves extra copies. No Problem. SO ... I want to create another project, and follow the instructions RELIGIOUSLY. I can import the video files into the event library, and can drag them into a newly created project, but I CANNOT see the clips in the browser pane for events or library! When I click the playhead in either the event library or the project library (where the clips are edited - supposedly), they play (ie, i hear the audio just fine) ... but NO real-time playback.  ALSO - the video no longer plays for the already completed project when I click the playhead - same deal - not in the project browser, not in the event browser. The playhead runs, but as it moves from thumbnail to thumbnail, each one goes black, and no video plays in real time in the other pane. I closed out of iMovie, did a restart, repaired permissions. No change. I get no error messages, and can find no way to 'reassociate' a project with a set of clips (like one can do in software like Illustrator etc).HELP!!!

I've spent 3 hours in Apple Covent Garden trying to have this fixed. Most of those were spent doing something to content in iPhoto. It didn't work. Then I left them my computer to reinstall software (Snow Leopard and iMovie) which they said they could do better than me and my discs. But I got back a computer with a new user profile and no files. When I used Time Machine to restore my files to my old profile the problem was just as before except now I've lost a week worth of photos, despite the Time Machine file having been saved just hours before I gave my Mac to the muppets in the Apple store.
If it's any clue, the other I get is that iMovie searches for four missing movie files when it tries to load. I've tried solving this by creating new files and changing the names to match the ones that are missing (as I read elsewhere in the community works) but it doesn't work.
So I've wasted hours, a day of Apple having my computer and no one replies to my thread here. What's to be done? Do I give up on iMovie and buy Final Cut pro? And how can I get my week's worth of photos back that have disappeared from TimeMachine, even though everything else in the restoration (e.g. mail and Firefox windows) are completely up to date?

  • I've made a film, and I'm at the point where I export it to post it, and I get the error message that "2 clips are missing"?

So my film is all done, very excited to share it. It's a short thing at about 4:20 minutes long with music with video from several different cameras, 2 types of gopros, and my buddy's nikon DSLR. It plays back fine in final cut but gives me the error message when i try to export.
How do i 'find the clips that are missing' or figure which ones are the ones that are 'missing' ? And the how do i 'find' them ?

Do you see any of your clips in the Browser have have been replace by a red icon? Those are the missing clips.
You can also go to File -> Relink Files. It'll bring up a window showing the missing files when the "Missing" radio button is selected. There's a button to help you locate the files. Once you have located the missing files, click the "Relink Files" at the bottom of the window.
I had to do this for 339 missing files...it's a long story...last weekend. It worked perfectly.

  • How can I get video clips to play in a browser?

Scenario:  A client visits my Web site.  A shockwave movie plays automatically.  It contains a video clip.  When the SW movie encounters the frame containing the movie clip, it simply skips over it and continues.  The video never plays.  I have tried avi, windows media, mpeg and quicktime with the same results.
I have found that the video plays fine as long as I open the director movie with Director.  But when I open it with a browser, the video clip does not play.  I have tried Internet Explorer and Firefox browsers.
Does someone know what I am missing to make the video play in a browswer?
    Thanks.
    Dewey

When the SW movie encounters the frame containing the movie clip, it simply skips over it and continues.  The video never plays.
Presumably you have code to stop the playhead from moving while the video plays? You might want to post it.
If you are testing this locally, you need a folder named "dswmedia" somewhere in the path or linked content, like your video file, won't be found. Check the docs for more details.

  • RAID is missing in Media Browser

RAID is missing from the Media Browser. I can see the RAID icon (AM VIDEO) in the bin but can see it in the file directory. Double clicking on the icon doesn't open the RAID. My work around is to place an alias of a directory needed from the RAID on the desktop.
RAID is an OWC Mercury Rack Pro and it's visible and fully functional in the finder. Problem occurs in CC and CC14
    Mac Pro 5,1, 10.9.3

I've just had it happen too. A brand new OWC RAID 1 drive (less than a week old) has suddenly, under Pr 2014, lost the ability to see this drive.  When it arrived I formatted it with Apple's Disk Utility. Adobe Premiere has been working fine until this version. Now Premiere cannot see this drive in media browser, while the Finder can, and DU reports no problems, and neither does Disk Warrier. The drive seems fine. But Adobe can't see it.
Given the variety of people discussing this, here and on other boards, I'm thinking that there is a bug with Media Browser. I now have to *reformat* my drive, which means hours of moving files off to another drive and back on. If this is a bug, we need to know what's happening! I will be *very* unwilling to upgrade to the next version of Adobe software given this situation!
