Close a window in a post form trigger in a form with calls to new forms

All,
I am trying to close the browser using examples from metalink and this forum. I am placing the code in a post-form trigger as directed by the example. The problem I am having is that this is a menu type screen that includes buttons that take the users to a new form. So, when any of the buttons pressed on the menu screeen, including the Exit button, The Post-Form trigger fires and tries to close the window. I also noticed I should place the trigger in the last closing form and have done that.
I then tried putting the code to close the window in the Exit when button pressed trigger, and that doesn't seem to be working either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I wonder why the feature isn't built-in to the OS, even as an option. It's convenient to be able to minimize a window in place, so you don't have to keep going to the dock to reopen it...

PROGRESS_INDICATOR comes when I close QUERY_FIND window

Hi,
I have developed a custom form in R12 and used query_find window in it. Query_find window is working fine but when I close this window PROGRESS_INDICATOR comes and form does not close.
What should I do to close the PROGRESS_INDICATOR WINDOW?

1. please check navigation sequence , set your window top lead (over progress_window)
2. make sure your first window were link to your content canvas (properties in windows and canvas)
for example , one window named MAIN_WINDOW and one canvas named MAIN_CANVAS
check MAIN_WINDOW properties : primary canvas with value MAIN_CANVAS , and check MAIN_CANVAS properties : window with value : MAIN_WINDOW

Post-form trigger raised unhandled exception

I have enabled TRANSLATION and ATTACHMENTS menu on my oracle form(form customization).
but if i click on attachment menu the window opens for attachments but when i am going to close a window it throws an exception as
**FRM-40735: POST_FORM trigger raised unhandled exception ORA-06502**
and it is not allowing to close an window i have to terminate application every time.
what shall i do in this situation ????????

Reference the solution steps and search on your form name as opposed to the PERWSQUA.
If still not resolved, please open an SR with the owning application of the form or for Forms Developer.

IE11 can't post form data to specific frame or window dialog opened via window.open()

Hello,
Form POST targeting to specific frame or dialog popped up via window.open() no longer works in IE11.
It worked fine in IE10 and all previous versions of IE.
Please see screenshot attached with simple test that reproduces this problem.

Note: IE11 doesn't report any errors, doesn't complain about anything, even when debugged via F12 developer tools. The only thing it complained initially was missing doc type declaration on top of page, but even after adding doc type definition, problem still
persists, makes no difference.
I tested this on fresh install of Windows 2012R2 while testing our web application with the new IE11.
I believe doing this on Windows 8.1 with IE11 will result in same bug/problem.
Our web application uses a technique whereby it launches a popup window via call to window.open(), passing blank URL and specifying a name for the new window. It then does a from post targeting the name of new dialog.
In IE11 this functionality has been broken and no longer works.
Problem is that IE11, instead of posting form to the newly created dialog, it launches a new instance of IE and then loads the requested form in this new instance of IE, while the dialog launched via window.open() remains on screen and is empty. If user repeats
launching same form post request (via button click for example), IE 11 keeps creating new empty dialogs and new IE instance for every form post executed. This totally breaks our application because we use many so called "wizards" that encapsulate
specific functionality in separate web page launched in a popup window.
Another related problem is that if a dialog is launched with window.open(), the java script code in the dialog can not target the parent frame that opened the dialog anymore. In our application, when a dialog is closed, it typically needs to trigger a refresh
of a specific frame within the parent window (again targeted by name) to reflect saved/updated info that user entered in the popup dialog. The result is that we can't refresh the parent frame after the pop up dialog closes. Instead, IE11 launches
a new instance of IE (not just a tab, but a whole new instance) and loads the parent frame in it.
The problem seems to be caused by broken frame name targeting mechanism in IE11.
Note that we force IE to compatibility mode 5, but even without specifying any compatibility, the problem remains.
Typical java script to reproduce this is:

Expected: IE11 should correctly post form to and load targeted page in the newly popped up dialog, without opening new IE instance and new tab. Repeatedly posting form to existing popup window should reuse that window, not keep on launching more popup windows
and then more IE instances.
Steps to reproduce the problem (include URL if applicable):
URL with sample page: http://173.231.98.44/cgi/TestFolder/page2.asp
1) Create page1.htm: <html><body>display "I'm in a popup window now ..."</body></html>
2) Create page2.htm with a button and onclick() event calling function to open dialog, and do form POST targeting new dialog calling page1.htm, like below.

Has anyone else encountered this problem?

the default action of <input type="button" is submit. Note also that the default type of <button> elements is 'submit' also.
add a return false to the onclick inline event handler (which constructs the form submit attribues) to cancel the default form.submit behavior.
form elements have a target value with which you can specify the name window into which you want the form to open in.

you can use the window.open method with a query uri to achieve the same outcome.

the outcomes of all scripted windows are affected by
your IE Popup blocker and tabbed browsing settings
which in turn is affected by your IE Security zone settings (for popup blocking handling)
and the settings of any third-party popup blocker you may have installed and enabled... it may not necessarily be visible on your browser toolbar.
The first step in troubleshooting web browser issues is to test in no-addons mode.
Use the Developer Tool to find out what documentMode the test page is opening in on your system. On Modal/Modeless popup windows use the f12 key to display the Developer tool positioned on the contentWindow.
Use File>Properties to find out what IE Security zone it maps to... there is a security setting to prevent navigation into zones of lower integrity.

well i had made my application with multiple windows in one form well all the window be opened through menu but the problem is that when i tried to close the windowby clicking on the close mark on the window it dont close that window well in this way if i had opened 10 or more windows they remain open and dont seem to be close by that close or hide on exit property of that windows what i conclude its a built in bug or any mistake that i had made help me out

Populate Form Field from Post-Query Trigger

I have a form with some fields like "start_date", "company_id", "previous_start_date", "previous_company_id". Out of these, the "previous" fields are unbound and the others are bound to "my_companies" table. All are in the same block on the form. I have a post-query trigger which runs a cursor to select "previous" values based on the "start_date" and "company_id". More than one "previous" values is retrieved each time. My problem is that my cursor writes back only one value into my form field. I ran the cursor as a pl/sql block in TOAD to test and it fetches all the records that I need. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong in writing the values into form items. The form items are of type "custom" and display type is "text" (I'm creating the form in Oracle Designer). My cursor code is something like this:

Do you have several previous date fields per record?
How are they named? Previous_date_1, previous_date_2,...?

Master-Detail Form - implementing some thing like Post-Query trigger

I am struggling to implement an eqivalent of a post-query trigger in Oracle Forms. Please bear with me as I am trying to explain in detail what the problem is.
Here is my situation.
I have three tables EMP, DEPT and LOCATION. I created a Master/Table pages on EMP and DEPT.
Basic relationships.
Each LOCATION has one or more DEPTs; Each DEPT is at one and only one LOCATION.
Each DEPT has one ore more EMPs; Each EMP is assigned to only and only DEPT.
Not getting too complicated, here are the table layouts:
LOCATION:
ID number(10,0) not null,
NAME varchar2(20) not null
DEPT
ID number(10,0) not null,
NAME varchar2(20) not null,
LOC_ID number (10,0) not null foreign key from LOCATION
EMP
ID number(10,0) not null,
NAME varchar2(20) not null,

Assume I have all the constraints, BIU triggers, sequences defined properly.
I am using the APEX page wizard to create a Master/Detail Form on DEPT and EMP. The first page is the Master Report on DEPT. I want to display the Location Name on this page also. Because the Master Report allows
you to change the query, I was able to add the Location Name as part of the
query. This was very simple.

b.name "Location"

Moving on, In the Master Detail Form, I would like to get the Location Name as part of the first Region (Dept Region).
In this region, I would like to include the Location Name also. So my first region on the Master Detail form includes:
Dept Id: ________
Dept Name: _______
Location Name: __________
As Region are automatically populated using using a Fetch Row from EMP table (Automated Row Fetch) on an After Header process point, I don't have a way of including the Location as part of query. So I created a Region level Item called Location Name, made it Display only.
In the old SQL*Forms, or Oracle Forms days, I used to use a Post-Query trigger, or Post-Change trigger to fire on the Loc_Id column to populate the Location Name. Simple fetch like:
Select name
into :P80_location_name
from location
where loc_id = :P80_loc_id
However, I am struggling to implement some thing simple like this in APEX. Tried creating a processes, computatations etc, but nothing is working.
I have seen some previous responses to fetching values from a foreign table
using a button or AJAX script, but this should be very basic. What am I
missing here?

Hi John,
I'm not too familiar with the post-query triggers in Oracle Forms, but the use of a List of Values (LOV) on your LOCATION table might do the trick for you. If you create a dynamic LOV based on your LOCATIONS table, it can then be referenced by the LOC_ID item on the Master-Detail page, to display the Location Name. You could try doing the following:
1. Create a new dynamic LOV, LOCATIONS, using a query similar to the following:
select Name d, ID r
from LOCATION
order by 1
2. Edit the "Create" button on the Master report page, and in the "Optional URL Redirect" section set "Request" to CREATE. Click Apply Changes, to save the setting.
3. Edit the LOC_ID item on your Master-Detail page, and set the following:
* in the "Name" region change the "Display As" setting to Select List
* in the "Label" region change the Label to Location Name.
* in the "List of Values" region set the "Named LOV" to LOCATIONS
* in the "Read Only" section, set the condition to Request != Expression 1, and set Expression 1 to CREATE.
Click Apply Changes to save the settings.
When you run the pages now, the Location Name field will appear as Read-Only when editing a selected Master row. The item will appear as a Select List when the user clicks "Create" on the Master page, to create a new Master row.

Post-Query
Perform an action after fetching a record, such as looking up values in other tables based on a value in the current record.
Fires once for each record fetched into the block.

Avoid "close all windows" form

Hello guys,
I'm just working on an add-on where there is the need to create several user defined tables and user defined fields at the beginning.
During the creation, the B1-user gets the form "Database has been modified, close all windows" (no quote)
And if he presses "Yes" to close all windows this could cause errors in the add-on.
So my question is:
Is there any possibility to get this form only ones (right after I finished creating the tables)

Hi Mario,
Take a look at the progressbar object. While a progressbar is active, a user can't interact with the GUI. I use this method also with my initialisations, works like a charm!

Help Please.... I am trying to close browser window when I exit 10g forms:
Per oracle Note:115905.1
create close.html file Put the html file in the webserver root.
I created the following file in $ORACLE_HOME/Apache directory (webserver directory??)
1.)Create an html file (es. close.html):

Now i m developing oracle forms using 6i. now i m running it independantly. that is i put forms in one folder and run these forms using shortcut. If i m using the same in client machine also. But now i want to run these forms in webbrowser(client-server). for this i done the followings.
1. installing forms server and reports server.
2.Also i install IIS Server and appachie server also.
3. I had fmx files.
now i dont know the procedure to configure these web server with forms server. And i hold the fmx files in inetpub\wwroot folder.
Which one is the easy method appachiee server or iis server.
Please help me to run these fmx files in web browser.

In FF 3, Intellimouse ("5" buttons) back button closes only the current tab. In FF4 it closes the window. I prefer the former. How can I get FF4 to do that?

MS's Intellimouse has five "buttons" including the scroll wheel. I set left and right buttons to L-click & R-click (seems normal). I set left side button to Back and right side button to Close.
In FF3, Close closes the current tab and Ctrl-W closes the window. In FF4, this is reversed -- Close closes the window and all its tabs and Ctrl-W closes the current tab -- not my preferred behavior.
The behavior switch in FF4 may or may not have been a function of what somebody had for breakfast. It is was, then I'd like it switched back. If there was an important reason for the switch, I'd like to know.
Until FF4 reverts to FF3 behavior, I'm probably stuck in FF3.

Is it possible to cIose the browser window while closing the form in Oracle 10g.
I wrote a code EXIT_FORM in a "WHEN BUTTEN PRESSED" TRIGGER and
web.show_document('javascript:window.close()','_self'); in "POST-FORM" trigger
But it only closes the form.
Please help me with the fast & useful responds.

Still no solution to adding a 'close this window' button to a page

Hi can anyone help please with this problem? I have used the following html in snippets

which shows a button but it does not close the window in all browsers e.g. not in Safari beta or firefox.

Where do you see the target='_top"? I went looking for the original button from my original post which was in the http://web.me.com/toad.hall/HelperSite//Page1_files/widget3markup.html page via the Activity window and view source and this is what the code of that widget page is:

Execution of ddl statement in post-insert trigger

I'm working on headstart 6.5. I wants to execute a DDL statement in post-insert-trigger.The problem is this trigger is executed in between pre-commit and post-forms-commit.In pre-commit the transaction is opened with a insert statement that is inserting "open" in field status which is having a deffered check constraint QMS_NEED_TO_CLOSE_TRANSACTION.In post-forms-commit it will check whether the transaction is open if yes will check the business rule will delete the data that was inserted into qms_transaction in pre-commit trigger and will close the transaction .
     In between if i execute a DDl statement a commit will be performed on the insert statement written in pre-commit trigger.This will violate the check-constraint and we will get the error qms_need_to_close_transaction violated.
     My business logic wants this statement to be executed at the post-insert trigger on the block.Is this possible??
     Does anyone have face the same problem?Whts the workaround for the same?
