Master-Detail Form - implementing some thing like Post-Query trigger
Hi all,
I am struggling to implement an eqivalent of a post-query trigger in Oracle Forms. Please bear with me as I am trying to explain in detail what the problem is.
Here is my situation.
I have three tables EMP, DEPT and LOCATION. I created a Master/Table pages on EMP and DEPT.
Basic relationships.
Each LOCATION has one or more DEPTs; Each DEPT is at one and only one LOCATION.
Each DEPT has one ore more EMPs; Each EMP is assigned to only and only DEPT.
Not getting too complicated, here are the table layouts:
LOCATION:
ID number(10,0) not null,
NAME varchar2(20) not null
DEPT
ID number(10,0) not null,
NAME varchar2(20) not null,
LOC_ID number (10,0) not null foreign key from LOCATION
EMP
ID number(10,0) not null,
NAME varchar2(20) not null,
DEPT_ID number (10,0) not null foreign key from DEPT
Assume I have all the constraints, BIU triggers, sequences defined properly.
I am using the APEX page wizard to create a Master/Detail Form on DEPT and EMP. The first page is the Master Report on DEPT. I want to display the Location Name on this page also. Because the Master Report allows
you to change the query, I was able to add the Location Name as part of the
query. This was very simple.
Select a.name "Department_Name",
b.name "Location"
from dept a, location b
where a.loc_id = b.id
Moving on, In the Master Detail Form, I would like to get the Location Name as part of the first Region (Dept Region).
In this region, I would like to include the Location Name also. So my first region on the Master Detail form includes:
Dept Id: ________
Dept Name: _______
Location Name: __________
As Region are automatically populated using using a Fetch Row from EMP table (Automated Row Fetch) on an After Header process point, I don't have a way of including the Location as part of query. So I created a Region level Item called Location Name, made it Display only.
In the old SQL*Forms, or Oracle Forms days, I used to use a Post-Query trigger, or Post-Change trigger to fire on the Loc_Id column to populate the Location Name. Simple fetch like:
Select name
into :P80_location_name
from location
where loc_id = :P80_loc_id
However, I am struggling to implement some thing simple like this in APEX. Tried creating a processes, computatations etc, but nothing is working.
I have seen some previous responses to fetching values from a foreign table
using a button or AJAX script, but this should be very basic. What am I
missing here?
Appreciate any insights.
Thanks.
John
Hi John,
I'm not too familiar with the post-query triggers in Oracle Forms, but the use of a List of Values (LOV) on your LOCATION table might do the trick for you. If you create a dynamic LOV based on your LOCATIONS table, it can then be referenced by the LOC_ID item on the Master-Detail page, to display the Location Name. You could try doing the following:
1. Create a new dynamic LOV, LOCATIONS, using a query similar to the following:
select Name d, ID r
from LOCATION
order by 1
2. Edit the "Create" button on the Master report page, and in the "Optional URL Redirect" section set "Request" to CREATE. Click Apply Changes, to save the setting.
3. Edit the LOC_ID item on your Master-Detail page, and set the following:
* in the "Name" region change the "Display As" setting to Select List
* in the "Label" region change the Label to Location Name.
* in the "List of Values" region set the "Named LOV" to LOCATIONS
* in the "Read Only" section, set the condition to Request != Expression 1, and set Expression 1 to CREATE.
Click Apply Changes to save the settings.
When you run the pages now, the Location Name field will appear as Read-Only when editing a selected Master row. The item will appear as a Select List when the user clicks "Create" on the Master page, to create a new Master row.
I hope this helps.

Hilary

Radio Group in Master Detail Form
Hi There,
I want to create a radio group with 2 options (Yes, No) for a detail-record within a master-detail form and I would like to save the selected option in a table-column, which is of Varchar2 and has the length of 1 (Y,N).
How can I do that.
I do not have a clue where to start from.
In the guides I just could find ways of how to display information through a sql query in a radio-group and just in master-records.
Thank you!!Unfortunately it doesn't appear that you can use a radiogroup display for tabular form column definitions. You can however use a select list.
This makes sense because radiogroups could possibly consume far too much page real estate if the LOV was a long list, whereas a select list would always consume the same space no matter how many entries were in the LOV.
If you want to pursue this just make sure that you have a column defined in your detail table with the correct datatype, as you described. Then when you create the detail form view you can modify the report column to display as a select list by going to the Report Attributes tab of the region definition, select the individual column you want to change and in the Tabular Form section of the Column Attrributes set the Display As to a Select List along with the appropriate LOV type, go to the LOV for the column further down the page and select or define the LOV. Click Apply Changes and your on your way.

Populate Form Field from Post-Query Trigger
I have a form with some fields like "start_date", "company_id", "previous_start_date", "previous_company_id". Out of these, the "previous" fields are unbound and the others are bound to "my_companies" table. All are in the same block on the form. I have a post-query trigger which runs a cursor to select "previous" values based on the "start_date" and "company_id". More than one "previous" values is retrieved each time. My problem is that my cursor writes back only one value into my form field. I ran the cursor as a pl/sql block in TOAD to test and it fetches all the records that I need. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong in writing the values into form items. The form items are of type "custom" and display type is "text" (I'm creating the form in Oracle Designer). My cursor code is something like this:
declare
cursor previous_data_cur is
select company_id,start_date
from my_companies
where company_id = :myblock.company_id
and start_date < :myblock.start_date;
BEGIN
open previous_data_cur;
LOOP
fetch previous_data_cur into :myblock.prev_company_id, :myblock.prev_start_date;
EXIT WHEN previous_data_cur%NOTFOUND;
END LOOP;
close previous_data_cur;
END; Can anyone provide any pointers on what I could be doing wrong or what I should do to make this work?
Any help is greatly appreciated.Do you have several previous date fields per record?
How are they named? Previous_date_1, previous_date_2,...?
Try this:
declare
cursor previous_data_cur is
select start_date
from my_companies
where company_id = :myblock.company_id
and start_date < :myblock.start_date;
l_previous_data previous_data_cur%ROWTYPE;
l_count NUMBER;
BEGIN
l_count := 1
FOR l_previous_data IN previous_data_cur
LOOP
copy(l_previous_data.start_date, 'my_block.previous_start_date_'|| l_count);
END LOOP;
END; Caution:
- number of retrieved records may not exceed number of previous_date fields.

Post-trigger problem in master detail form.
I have designed a master detail form having two data blocks.
in detail data block there is a post-query.
when i tried delete one record in master block
an error occurred ie
'frm-40654. Record is updated by another user
re-query to see changes'.
in detail block there are 3 non database items.
when i delete the post-query trigger the record is deleting properly.but the post-query trigger is also needed to display the non database item values. please give me a solution to tackle this problem.Hi,
Even though yout items are non-database items, when you assign a value to them forms sets the block status to "CHANGED".
Add the following lines add the end of your post-query trigger to reset the block status to "QUERY"
set_record_property (GET_BLOCK_PROPERTY('YOUR_BLOCK_NAME',CURRENT_RECORD)
,name_in('system.cursor_block')
,STATUS
,QUERY_STATUS
Hope this helps,

Post query trigger problem in master detail oracle forms
Hello experts,
I am new in oracle forms n using Fission middleware 10g with oracle forms 11g at windows 7 platform.
I have made a master detail form using a tab canvas.There is a database column STUDENTID and it is in my student tab with a TBL_STUDENTENTRY data block.Now I Have an another tab named previous_education with TBL_STUDENT_PREVIOU_EDU datablock here there is also a database column STUDENTID and corresponding field in my previous_education TAB under TBL_STUDENT_PREVIOU_EDU datablock.Now i want to add a display item to show student name corresponding to STUDENTID.For this I have tried to make a select query in TBL_STUDENT_PREVIOU_EDU data block POPST_QUERY TRIGGER.
begin
select STUDENTNAME into :TBL_STUDENT_PREVIOU_EDU.STD_NM from TBL_STUDENTENTRY where STUDENTID=:TBL_STUDENTENTRY.STUDENTID;
end;
But, This trigger is not fired at runtime,Please suggest me what is going wrong and give me the solution.

Search on Master Detail form/report
Hi,
I noticed that when I created a new application in Apex 4.01 basing the intial page on a Master Detail form/report, I was able to add a search item to the initial page. When I go to add another page with a different Master detail form/report, I did not have any option for adding a search item to the report page. Seems like an oversight?
I would appreciate any hints as to how to add same search item to my 2nd Master/Detail form/report.

How to determine the ROWNUM in a Master Detail Form
Hello,
I am working in a Master Detail Form with Orders and Order Items Information; and I created a process that allows the users to select a Product ID on a tabular form, and the next column is populated automatically with the Product Description.
To achieve that, I followed some instructions by Denes Kubicek (http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=31517:241), but my case is slightly different:
<ul>I am using a wizard-created tabular form, instead of a manual tabular form; and </ul>
<ul>Instead of using another page as a Popup to pass the parameter of the ROWNUM, I am using a plug-in called “Tabular Form Super LOV” which is a modified version of the SkillBuilders’ Super LOV that works on Tabular Forms. </ul>
The Product ID is returned in the correct row by the plug-in; but in the case of the Product Description, it is always returned into the first row; and my problem is that I don't know how to determine the row where the user clicked to call the plug-in.
I set up an example in apex.oracle.com in case someone would like to look at it:
Workspace: ediazjorge
Username: test
Password: test
App Name: Sample App
App Number: 1550
BTW, I am using Apex 4.1.1.00.23 and Oracle DB 10.3.2.
Thanks in advance,
ErickHello VC,
Thank you for your time and help.
Unfortunately, it is still not working properly:
1. When the Popup LOV opens, the first row of the tabular form is 0, the second row is 1, and so on. How can I assign the values starting with 1 and in the format *0001* ? (I am still a novice on Apex and new to JavaScript :-), sorry about that).
--2. Also, when I close the Popup LOV, the value of P1_ROWNUM is ‘undefined’ again so I'm not sure if the Product Name column will be populated.--
3. And finally, you are using the jQuery Selector uPopupLOVIcon, which is an attribute of the Cloudy Theme. In my real application (Apex 4.1.1.00.26), my element looks like: *<img src="/i/lov_16x16.gif" width="16" height="16" alt="Popup Lov" alt="List" style="vertical-align:middle;" align="middle" />*. What do you recommend me to use as a jQuery Selector?
Again, I really appreciate your help and time. I think you solved the most difficult part.
Thank you so much,
Erick
Update: I just found out that the problem with my comment 2 is because I didn’t delete the previous dynamic action that set the value to P1_ROWNUM.

Inserting records in master detail form
I am moving an existing Webdb Application to portal. In the application there is a master detail form along the following lines
Dept Id: 10
Dept Name: IMS
Employee ID Employee Name etc
1586 Julie Wilks
Currently users can insert/update/delete detail lines. When inserting, the dept_id foreign key is automatically inserted into the dept_id column in the detail table. My understanding is that for some reason this does not happen in portal. Instead, the user is expected to input any foreign keys manually. As this could lead to all sorts of problems I'd rather not have to do this.
Has anyone found a means to get around this problem?
If solutions have already been posted, please point me in the right direction as a search on the forum hasn't come up with anything.
Many thanks,
Julie WilksHi,
Am I the only one having this problem?
Thanks,

Master Detail Form - Update Statement for Column in the Detail Section
Hello,
I've posted a demo application to apex.oracle.com
Application# 49298
Application Name: Street_Inventory
Basically, on page 3 I have a Master Detail Form. In the Detail section, I want the value of On_hand to save to table ITEMS. Here's my code below.
SOURCE
select
"CONSUME_DETAIL"."CONSUME_DETAIL_ID",
"CONSUME_DETAIL"."CONSUME_HEADER_ID",
"CONSUME_DETAIL"."ITEM_ID",
"CONSUME_DETAIL"."CONSUMED_QUANTITY",
("ITEMS"."ON_HAND" - "CONSUME_DETAIL"."CONSUMED_QUANTITY") as "ON_HAND"
from "CONSUME_DETAIL",
"ITEMS"
where "CONSUME_HEADER_ID" = :P3_CONSUME_HEADER_ID
and "CONSUME_DETAIL"."ITEM_ID"="ITEMS"."ITEM_ID"
UPDATE INVENTORY PROCESS
UPDATE ITEMS
SET ON_HAND = :P3_ON_HAND - :P3_CONSUMED_QUANTITY
WHERE ITEM_ID = (select ITEM_ID
from CONSUME_DETAIL
where CONSUME_DETAIL_ID = :P3_CONSUME_DETAIL_ID);
My code isn't working. What am I doing wrong?WReed,
The first thing I see "off the bat" is that you don't have items named P3_ON_HAND and P3_CONSUMED_QUANTITY which are referenced in your code. Although it's possible to do what you want with just SQL, I updated your code with a little PL/SQL to make it easier to understand...
As you'll see the problem now is that the design/db model is not quite right as your getting a too many rows error.

Dan

Master-detail form (my detail is in a new canevas-- new window)
Hello,
I have a Master-detail form, in my detail when i select a row i want to show an other canevas that becomes a detail for this selected row. i constructed the relationship between my first detail block and my new canevas that contains the detail for the selected row. When I select a row Oracle didn't show me the deatil for this row in the other canevas, i wondered me why? because I thought the relationship between them should atomatically drive the data for the other canevas. If i 'm wong, does someone could tell me what to do to call my canevas detail.
Master--->details(selected row become master)--->new canevas(contains details)
the relationship is done between my first detail block and my new details block.
CharlyHi,
POST-QUERY is definitly the wrong trigger to do what you want to achieve.
1. The usage of GO_BLOCK in POST-QUERY is not allowed and it will not work.
2. The detail must be synchronized when navigating in the master-record, not when populating the block
So the right trigger to do what you want to is the ON-POPULATE-DETAILS-Trigger.
Problem on this: It will only work if you have a relation on the master-block to the detail block.
But that's also possible even if you do not have a "direct" relation between the master and the detail block.
Just create a relation between the blocks based on some dummy-item and then go to the item in the detail-block and set its property "Copy value from" to NULL.
Now you can add your logic in the ON-POPULATE-DETAILS-Trigger.
Still one problem left: Where is the window you're going to show placed? If it's on to of the window where the items from the master-block are displayed, then immediately after querying the records in the detail-block the navigation back to the master-block will cause the other window to be shown again (and therefore your detail-window to be hidden again).
hope this helps -
HELP: Error while insert in master-detail form!!!
Hello
I have created a master-detail form and when I tried to insert a new record I got an error that the field on the detail table that references the primary key on the master table can not be null. I don't understand this error because I thought that when you create a master-detail form and you insert a new record the field that make the references in the detail table to the primary key on the master table will be automatically filled, am I wrong??. Can anybody tell me what is going on??. The primary key of my master table is filled with a trigger before insert, is that the problem??.
Please Help me is really urgent
Ana MariaI am still new to this, but maybe this will help.
1. Double check that your foreign key link definition in the detail table is referencing the correct column in the master table. If this is not present or referencing the column, this may be causing the problem. Self evident, but sometimes it is the simple things that get us.
2. I have not used a trigger yet, but could there be validation being done in the form before the trigger is firing. Therefore, there would not be a value in the detail part of the form.
Hope this was of some help. -
Can't put Combobox in Master-Detail Form
I'm trying to create Master-Detail form with LOV's, but in both the Master and Detail selection, the Item Type LOV doesn't include combobox.
From the looking at some of the Posts, this seems to be possible.
Does anyone know what I need to do?
Thanks LarryHi,
This is because you do not have any LOVs defined in your application. This LOV will show the LOV types, only if the application contains any LOVs. Define a LOV and then edit the form. You will be able to see it.
Thanks,

File Browse Item in Master-Detail Form
Hi,
This is what I need to do.
I have a master table called Regulations. As part of the Regulation Creation process, users need to upload supporting files. The number of files is not fixed, so I have a detail table for the uploaded files. I was planning to create a Master Detail form and have a File Browse item in the detail region? Is there a way I can put a File Browse item in the detail region of the Master Detail form?
Any other implementation suggestions are welcome.

Detail - INSERT
am i missing here something ? or is anything wrong here ?? pls advise ...
after the above changes the form would not compile at all.
also how would i populate the the detail records with the foreign key ??
thanx...
nullThis problem is fixed in 3.0.8 release of Portal which will be available with the next release of iAS.
Actuallty the fix is simple look at the generated package of EXAMPLE_MD_FORM from EXAMPLE_APP, onSave event handler looks like this:
procedure onSave
p_block_name in varchar2,
p_object_name in varchar2,
p_instance in integer,
p_event_type in varchar2,
p_user_args in varchar2,
p_session in out WWV_30898.wwa_api_module_session
is
"_master_block" varchar2(30) := 'MASTER_BLOCK';
Some more code.......
And then closer to the end in detail processing section there is something like:
"_d_data_rec".COMM:=p_session.get_value_as_NUMBER(
p_block_name => "_detail_block",
p_attribute_name => 'A_COMM',
p_index => "_cnt"
"_d_data_rec".DEPTNO:=p_session.get_value_as_NUMBER(
p_block_name => "_detail_block",
p_attribute_name => 'A_DEPTNO',
p_index => "_cnt"
===========================================
You'll need to insert following code, just one if statement, that's it. Please note every time you regenerate the package this code will be lost, so you'll need to add this agains and again. Not a perfect solution, that's why I like JS workaround better.
============================================
if "_d_data_rec".DEPTNO is NULL and "_m_data_rec".DEPTNO is NOT NULL
then
"_d_data_rec".DEPTNO := "_m_data_rec".DEPTNO;
end if;
============================================
============================================
if "_detail_action" = 'DELETE' and "_DETAIL_ROWID" is not null then
DELETE FROM WWV_30898_DEMO.EMP WHERE ROWID = "_DETAIL_ROWID";
"_detail_deleted" := "_detail_deleted" + 1;
elsif "_detail_action" = 'UPDATE' then
UPDATE WWV_30898_DEMO.EMP SET EMPNO="_d_data_rec".EMPNO,ENAME="_d_data_rec".ENAME,JOB="_d_data_rec".JOB,MGR="_d_data_rec".MGR,HIREDATE="_d_data_rec".HIREDATE,SAL="_d_data_rec".SAL,COMM="_d_data_rec".COMM,DEPTNO ="_d_data_rec".DEPTNO WHERE ROWID = "_DETAIL_ROWID" ;
"_detail_updated" := "_detail_updated" + 1;
elsif "_detail_action" = 'INSERT' then
INSERT INTO WWV_30898_DEMO.EMP (EMPNO,ENAME,JOB,MGR,HIREDATE,SAL,COMM,DEPTNO) VALUES ("_d_data_rec".EMPNO,"_d_data_rec".ENAME,"_d_data_rec".JOB,"_d_data_rec".MGR,"_d_data_rec".HIREDATE,"_d_data_rec".SAL,"_d_data_rec".COMM,"_d_data_rec".DEPTNO) RETURNING ROWID INTO "_DETAIL_ROWID";
"_detail_inserted" := "_detail_inserted" + 1;
