Closing Environment so that a new EnvImpl is created.

Hi,
We need to reopen the environment to a new set of log files in the file system. We use BDB inside a JVM running our app. We treat BDB local to one JVM process.
I searched this community and looks like the only way is to close and reopen.
We reference a single environment from many places, and this prevents the formation of a new EnvImpl which comes from a pool.
I am in a siutation where in I do not have control over when the env is referenced or given up to get a fixed reference count.
Is there a way to reopen an env such that a new EnvImpl is created? That is forceClose or something like that?

I am not sure I understand the question completely. I think you are saying that JE is running on a JVM and many threads create Environment objects for the same envHome directory. The situation is that some of the treads do not close the Environment. The functionality you would like is to be able to make the existing Environment objects not functional and a call to create an Environment be able to access the DB. I don't know of a way to provide this functionality using the Environment object. If possible the Environment should be opened once and be used by multiple treads.

When I open firefox, tabs open that describe new firefox features

Today, when I opened firefox for the first time and every time since then, I have clicked on the firefox icon and several different tabs open. Each one includes information about different things that are "new" to firefox such as WOT, google chrome, etc. I have closed each one, I have closed all at once, I have tried disabling them. Nothing has worked, every time I open firefox again, those 5 or 6 tabs open again.

You can check if you have an user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that sets the browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once pref to true.

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.
Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox profile folder.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).

WebService in a closed environment?

I am writing a concept for connecting applications to a central application. The interfaces will be both inbound and outbound. The "classic" way would be data exchange by cvs-files and writing shell scripts.
However, are there any reasons to use WebServices in that straightforward closed environment?

If you click on the bottom library what is the file path that is displayed?
Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

You can check for issues with the new tab page setting.

Finally closed then performed cpr on new neighbor

What an ordeal. I'm sick with stomach problems right now, so this will be without all the details. We closed on Friday & started moving in. I heard blood-curdling screams from a neighbor's yard, so I ran over & found a woman holding her unconscious toddler in the pool & begging for help. I pulled the little girl out, drained some water out, & began chest compressions, gave breaths, more compressions, more draining as needed, more compressions. More people started rushing up & I was pushed aside as another neighbor came to take over. Total havoc. I'm a traumatized mess. The little girl has remained unresponsive on a ventilator in critical condition ever since. Edit to update: little Paisely passed away two days later on Sunday, August 2nd. I haven't seen her family again yet because we've been living away from the house. Second & also distressing is that our new home has a thick layer of creosote all over the entire crawlspace as a termite treatment. The house is reeking of mothballs (the smell of creosote) because it's been closed up for over a month with no ventilation. I felt sick after spending the night breathing it & ended up grabbing the kid, 3 cats, & bird to go back to the apartment. We're hiring 2 professionals to determine if we need to pay several thousands to wrap it all, which I think we do. The inspector did tell us about the creosote, but he only mentioned how awesome it was against termites, no mention of the noxious off-gassing that occurs in hot weather. My daughter (11) & I are pondering where to go when everything is removed from the apartment tomorrow. Should we stay with my sister 40 minutes away from our new house, or should we go back to the house & just keep the windows open alllllllllll the time for ventilation until it either airs completely out or we get the crawl space encapsulated? We moved to a small town where our next door neighbors never lock their doors & leave the keys in their vehicles. We might be safe with only screened windows for a few weeks, right? Alright, so there you have it. This has been a crazy few days. For those wanting to send thoughts & prayers for the little girl, her name is Paisley.
Edit to update: 4 home inspectors, an exterminator, & an environmental specialist (who tests air quality) have all assured us the fumes are from the house being shut tight in the heat for over a month & having extensive wood flooring with poly. The kiddo, animals & I stayed with my sister for a few days & came back to a much better situation. The environmental specialist told us we may need to seal around entry pipes in the crawl space with expanding foam & a full suit with respirator if we still catch whiffs in rooms with water, which we do, so that's gonna happen. She also recommended a crawl space ventilation system instead of encapsulation if we continue smelling the creosote. I'm really glad we didn't contact a lawyer & cancel the deal, because this house is solid.

Tried to open a file I created in Numbers a while ago which I modified on 11/4/13 and got a message that I needed a newer version of Numbers. When I went to the Mac App Store it shows that the new version is already installed. Any suggestions?

Are you launching Pages from an icon in your Dock? Installing the update does not change the Dock icons & it does not remove the older versions. Go to your Applications folder & launch the new Pages from there.

My iPhone 4s says that my software version 5.0.1 is up to date. Why am I not receiving the notification that the new update is available for me to download?

I have an iPhone 4s, not jailbroken. I was able to update to 5.0.1 when it came out last year. When 5.1.1 came out, I noticed that I never received the
notification that a new update was available. I updated my 2 ipads and my wife's iphone 4. I didn't bother looking into it, since I didn't feel the need to update to 5.1.1. Now I want to update to ios 6, but when I go to Settings > General > Software Update. It checks for updates , but still shows me that my 5.0.1 is up to date. I plug into itunes and check for update there and it still indicates that 5.0.1. is up to date as well.
Does anyone know what this is happening and how I can update to ios 6?

I reinstalled with the same error messages and the same results.
I uninstalled existing and reinstalled from scratch and the same error messages again.
I try to repair and at the end it said it had installed correctly – but when it tried to start I got the message “This application has failed to start because MSVCR80.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix the problem” I now get the same message when I first start the computer but when I press ok I receive ““ITunes was not installed correctly; please reinstall ITunes – Error 7 – (windows error 126)” again.
It appears the update has not only corrupted the operating system (Xp Pro SP3) of my computer but I have no backups to my IPhone, my wife’s IPhone or the three others phones that use my computer.
I hope you can advise me how to recover my backups

Well the next couple of things to try would be to reset all settings, and if that doesn't help, it's probably time to restore the iOS software.
Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings. That will take all settings on the iPad back to factory defaults. It will not delete anything and you will not lose any data, but you will have to enter all settings again ...WiFi passwords, enable Siri, select your wallpaper, adjust brightness, turn on location services and set privacy settings, etc, etc.

Should you decide to restore the iOS, it is extremely important that you back up first so that you can restore from the backup and then sync with iTunes afterward in order to restore all content back to the iPad. It is all covered in the kb article.
If you do not sync with iTunes, then I assume that you backup with iCloud. In that case you can erase the device in Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings. Once again, backing up with I loud is I,operative before you do this so that you can restore from the iCloud backup after you erase the iPad and start over again with activation.

I changed email addresses some time ago, and I thought that I had updated my Apple Account. When I tried to log in with the new email addy, I got a message that this emaill addy had not been set up as an account yet. So I cancelled that message, went into my account witht the old email addy, and proceded to follow the necessary steps to change my ID.
I then received a message that the new email addy was already attached to an account. ??????????????? I tried the new email again, but it still wants me to set up new account (ie reenter all my information). How do I get my new email addy cleared from the system so I can use it on my current account?

THe email address you want to use may be set as the recovery email for another account. That would prevent you from using it, until you remove it from that account.

You might also need to turn Preview generation off for any existing Projects. Select the Project in the Projects pane and use the cog button at the top of the pane to uncheck 'Maintain Previews For Project'.
