Cluster setup and APS sizing

Hi,
I have 2 windows servers here with BI 4.0 SP2 installed on each of them and I have clustered the two CMS. Now, in CMC, I see 18 servers each for each node - so total of 36 servers that are running and enabled. ( I am talking about APS, AJS, CMS, IFRS, OFRS, dashboard servers etc.....). My questions are:
1) Should I leave them all enabled and running at all times ? my understanding is that I should, because that is how the load balancing and failover will happen.  But at a couple of forums, I have read that some people leave the servers of one node off.
2)I read in some forum that by clustering the two bobjs on two servers, basically only the CMS is being load balanced. Is that true ?? Does this mean that other servers like APS, AJS, Dashobard server, crystal server and the corresponding services within them are not really being load balanced even though both are running at the same time ?
3) My installation is default and we havent gone live yet. I havent really created or modified any of the servers like APS etc. but I am reading that in your production system, you should create multiple APS servers and distribute similiar services among them ? is this true ? Note # 1580280 and the sizing companion for BO 4.0 talks about it too.Should i really worry about this even if I am only going to have 100 users in production ?
Thanks,
Jason

1) Should I leave them all enabled and running at all times ? my understanding is that I should, because that is how the load balancing and failover will happen. But at a couple of forums, I have read that some people leave the servers of one node off.
You should stop and disable all default APS and AJS servers and then create Specific APS/AJS servers only with services that you need.
There are several KB's on APS issues in BI4 and most are resolved with splitting them up.
Non APS servers you should stop those that are not part of your reporting requirements.
That is not true. When 2 BI4 nodes are clustered , over time the load of each service is balanced.
Yes, the default APS are not good at all and should never be used in the production, even if you only have 5 users

  • SOAP ports with cluster setup and BES?

Okay, our cluster setup in NetWare (yes, still NetWare cluster) with Groupwise 7.0.3 we have unique TCP ports for the client/server (like 1677-something). Even though each clustered node has a unique IP and is running in protected memory.
    That being said:
We'd like to enable SOAP for use with BES and GWArchive.
    The issue/question:
Do either of these figure out the SOAP port for each PO? Or must the SOAP port be the same among all the PO's for BES to work properly?
If the SOAP port must be the same (I'm not the BES admin, so I don't know if the setup lets you specify just one port or if you can defined them per PO), can you run multiple POA on the same physical host (keep in mind, this is clustered with protected memory) and use the same TCP port # for SOAP?

I haven't used BES, but in general there's no auto-discover method for
SOAP ports, so yes they'd probably have to be the same port.

  • CONCURRENT MANAGER SETUP AND CONFIGURATION REQUIREMENTS IN AN 11I RAC ENVIR

    제품 : AOL
    작성날짜 : 2004-05-13
    PURPOSE
RAC-PCP 구성에 대한 Setup 사항을 기술한 문서입니다.
PCP 구현은 CM의 workload 분산, Failover등을 목적으로 합니다.
    Explanation
Failure sceniro 는 다음 3가지로 구분해 볼수 있습니다.
    1. The database instance that supports the CP, Applications, and Middle-Tier
processes such as Forms, or iAS can fail.
    2. The Database node server that supports the CP, Applications, and Middle-
Tier processes such as Forms, or iAS can fail.
    3. The Applications/Middle-Tier server that supports the CP (and Applications)
    base can fail.
    아래부분은 CM,AP 구성과
CM과 GSM(Global Service Management)과의 관계를 설명하고 있습니다.
The concurrent processing tier can reside on either the Applications, Middle-
Tier, or Database Tier nodes. In a single tier configuration, non PCP
environment, a node failure will impact Concurrent Processing operations do to
any of these failure conditions. In a multi-node configuration the impact of
any these types of failures will be dependent upon what type of failure is
experienced, and how concurrent processing is distributed among the nodes in
the configuration. Parallel Concurrent Processing provides seamless failover
for a Concurrent Processing environment in the event that any of these types of
    failures takes place.
In an Applications environment where the database tier utilizes Listener (
server) load balancing is implemented, and in a non-load balanced environment,
there are changes that must be made to the default configuration generated by
Autoconfig so that CP initialization, processing, and PCP functionality are
initiated properly on their respective/assigned nodes. These changes are
described in the next section - Concurrent Manager Setup and Configuration
Requirements in an 11i RAC Environment.
The current Concurrent Processing architecture with Global Service Management
consists of the following processes and communication model, where each process
is responsible for performing a specific set of routines and communicating with
    parent and dependent processes.
아래 내용은 PCP환경에서 ICM, FNDSM, IM, Standard Manager의 역활을 설명하고
    있습니다.
Internal Concurrent Manager (FNDLIBR process) - Communicates with the Service
    Manager.
The Internal Concurrent Manager (ICM) starts, sets the number of active
processes, monitors, and terminates all other concurrent processes through
requests made to the Service Manager, including restarting any failed processes.
The ICM also starts and stops, and restarts the Service Manager for each node.
The ICM will perform process migration during an instance or node failure.
    The ICM will be
active on a single node. This is also true in a PCP environment, where the ICM
will be active on at least one node at all times.
Service Manager (FNDSM process) - Communicates with the Internal Concurrent
Manager, Concurrent Manager, and non-Manager Service processes.
The Service Manager (SM) spawns, and terminates manager and service processes (
these could be Forms, or Apache Listeners, Metrics or Reports Server, and any
other process controlled through Generic Service Management). When the ICM
    terminates the SM that
resides on the same node with the ICM will also terminate. The SM is ?hained?
to the ICM. The SM will only reinitialize after termination when there is a
function it needs to perform (start, or stop a process), so there may be
periods of time when the SM is not active, and this would be normal. All
    processes initialized by the SM
inherit the same environment as the SM. The SM environment is set by APPSORA.
env file, and the gsmstart.sh script. The TWO_TASK used by the SM to connect
to a RAC instance must match the instance_name from GV$INSTANCE. The apps_<sid>
listener must be active on each CP node to support the SM connection to the
    local instance. There
should be a Service Manager active on each node where a Concurrent or non-
    Manager service process will reside.
Internal Monitor (FNDIMON process) - Communicates with the Internal Concurrent
    Manager.
The Internal Monitor (IM) monitors the Internal Concurrent Manager, and
restarts any failed ICM on the local node. During a node failure in a PCP
environment the IM will restart the ICM on a surviving node (multiple ICM's may
be started on multiple nodes, but only the first ICM started will eventually
remain active, all others will gracefully terminate). There should be an
Internal Monitor defined on each node
    where the ICM may migrate.
Standard Manager (FNDLIBR process) - Communicates with the Service Manager and
    any client application process.
The Standard Manager is a worker process, that initiates, and executes client
requests on behalf of Applications batch, and OLTP clients.
Transaction Manager - Communicates with the Service Manager, and any user
process initiated on behalf of a Forms, or Standard Manager request. See Note:
240818.1 regarding Transaction Manager communication and setup requirements for
    RAC.
Concurrent Manager Setup and Configuration Requirements in an 11i RAC
    Environment
PCP를 사용하기위한 기본적인 Setup 절차를 설명하고 있습니다.
In order to set up Setup Parallel Concurrent Processing Using AutoConfig with
    GSM,
follow the instructions in the 11.5.8 Oracle Applications System Administrators
    Guide
under Implementing Parallel Concurrent Processing using the following steps:
    1. Applications 11.5.8 and higher is configured to use GSM. Verify the
configuration on each node (see WebIV Note:165041.1).
    2. On each cluster node edit the Applications Context file (<SID>.xml), that
resides in APPL_TOP/admin, to set the variable <APPLDCP oa_var="s_appldcp">
ON </APPLDCP>. It is normally set to OFF. This change should be performed
    using the Context Editor.
    3. Prior to regenerating the configuration, copy the existing tnsnames.ora,
listener.ora and sqlnet.ora files, where they exist, under the 8.0.6 and iAS
ORACLE_HOME locations on the each node to preserve the files (i.e./<some_
    directory>/<SID>ora/$ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/<SID>/tnsnames.ora). If any of
the Applications startup scripts that reside in COMMON_TOP/admin/scripts/<SID>
have been modified also copy these to preserve the files.
    4. Regenerate the configuration by running adautocfg.sh on each cluster node as
    outlined in Note:165195.1.
    5. After regenerating the configuration merge any changes back into the
tnsnames.ora, listener.ora and sqlnet.ora files in the network directories,
and the startup scripts in the COMMON_TOP/admin/scripts/<SID> directory.
Each nodes tnsnames.ora file must contain the aliases that exist on all
other nodes in the cluster. When merging tnsnames.ora files ensure that each
node contains all other nodes tnsnames.ora entries. This includes tns
entries for any Applications tier nodes where a concurrent request could be
initiated, or request output to be viewed.
    6. In the tnsnames.ora file of each Concurrent Processing node ensure that
there is an alias that matches the instance name from GV$INSTANCE of each
Oracle instance on each RAC node in the cluster. This is required in order
for the SM to establish connectivity to the local node during startup. The
entry for the local node will be the entry that is used for the TWO_TASK in
APPSORA.env (also in the APPS<SID>_<HOSTNAME>.env file referenced in the
    Applications Listener [APPS_<SID>] listener.ora file entry "envs='MYAPPSORA=<
    some directory>/APPS<SID>_<HOSTNAME>.env)
on each node in the cluster (this is modified in step 12).
    7. Verify that the FNDSM_<SID> entry has been added to the listener.ora file
under the 8.0.6 ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/<SID> directory. See WebiV Note:
165041.1 for instructions regarding configuring this entry. NOTE: With the
implementation of GSM the 8.0.6 Applications, and 9.2.0 Database listeners
must be active on all PCP nodes in the cluster during normal operations.
    8. AutoConfig will update the database profiles and reset them for the node
from which it was last run. If necessary reset the database profiles back to
    their original settings.
    9. Ensure that the Applications Listener is active on each node in the cluster
where Concurrent, or Service processes will execute. On each node start the
database and Forms Server processes as required by the configuration that
    has been implemented.
    10. Navigate to Install > Nodes and ensure that each node is registered. Use
the node name as it appears when executing a nodename?from the Unix prompt on
the server. GSM will add the appropriate services for each node at startup.
    11. Navigate to Concurrent > Manager > Define, and set up the primary and
secondary node names for all the concurrent managers according to the
desired configuration for each node workload. The Internal Concurrent
Manager should be defined on the primary PCP node only. When defining the
Internal Monitor for the secondary (target) node(s), make the primary node (
local node) assignment, and assign a secondary node designation to the
Internal Monitor, also assign a standard work shift with one process.
    12. Prior to starting the Manager processes it is necessary to edit the APPSORA.
env file on each node in order to specify a TWO_TASK entry that contains
the INSTANCE_NAME parameter for the local nodes Oracle instance, in order
to bind each Manager to the local instance. This should be done regardless
of whether Listener load balancing is configured, as it will ensure the
configuration conforms to the required standards of having the TWO_TASK set
to the instance name of each node as specified in GV$INSTANCE. Start the
Concurrent Processes on their primary node(s). This is the environment
that the Service Manager passes on to each process that it initializes on
behalf of the Internal Concurrent Manager. Also make the same update to
the file referenced by the Applications Listener APPS_<SID> in the
    listener.ora entry "envs='MYAPPSORA= <some directory>/APPS<SID>_<HOSTNAME>.
    env" on each node.
    13. Navigate to Concurrent > Manager > Administer and verify that the Service
Manager and Internal Monitor are activated on the secondary node, and any
other addititional nodes in the cluster. The Internal Monitor should not be
active on the primary cluster node.
    14. Stop and restart the Concurrent Manager processes on their primary node(s),
and verify that the managers are starting on their appropriate nodes. On
the target (secondary) node in addition to any defined managers you will
see an FNDSM process (the Service Manager), along with the FNDIMON process (
    Internal Monitor).

What is your database version? OS?
We are using VCP suite for Planning Purpose. We are using VCP environment (12.1.3) in Decentralized structure connecting to 3 differect source environment ( consisting 11i and R12). As per the Oracle Note {RAC Configuration Setup For Running MRP Planning, APS Planning, and Data Collection Processes [ID 279156]} we have implemented RAC in our test environment to get better performance.
But after doing all the setups and concurrent programs assignment to different nodes, we are seeing huge performance issue. The Complete Collection which takes generally on an avg 180 mins in Production, is taking more than 6 hours to complete in RAC.
So I would like to get suggestion from this forum, if anyone has implemented RAC in pure VCP (decentralized) environment ? Will there be any improvement if we make our VCP Instance in RAC ?Do you PCP enabled? Can you reproduce the issue when you stop the CM?

  • Verify HA Cluster setup in Oracle Virtual machine thru GUI

    Hi All,
I have setup 3 node cluster with HA[Oracle VM] enabled. When i checked in the GUI it
shows "High availability Infrastructure works well" like that.
For testing HA, I poweroff one of the Oracle Virtual server node from the Oracle Virtual manager browser.
Then if i checked the "Server Pools > Edit Server Pool ".check for "High Availability Infrastructure" browser keep going.
Also one more thing is the Powered off machine automatically after some time it is coming up.Is
    it right ?
After powered off if i run the below command in ovmmgr it shows 2 nodes are up.Same o/p
how can i get in GUI when i clicked High Availability Infrastructure in "Server Pools > Edit Server Pool "
    [root@xxxovmsr1 ~]# /usr/lib/ovs/ovs-cluster-check master alter-fstab
    O2CB cluster ocfs2 already online
    2
    Cluster setup complete.
Link hangs quit sometime. Not allowing new connections also ..What to do ?
    Basic question
How to verify the cluster setup from the GUI when i click "High Availability Infrastructure" check button?
Some one can help me in this please ?

    Hey,
After powered off one of VM server if i run the below command in ovmmgr it shows 2 nodes are up.
Why are you going ovmmgr ?
Are your checking it only thru gui part of the manager or also thru thr command line.
Oracle vm server - are hosts for your virtual systems your create on them.
If you power off the server - from GUI part you can see - it as switched off or unreachable
If your HA feature is enabled for that pool having more than 1 server sharing the /OVS filesystem - then he virtual system which is runnign on 1 of the Oracle VM server - will not die
It will migrate to other available server in the pool - which is whole idea and purpose of HA
I don't understand what exactly you are trying to crosscheck or verify here with these commands
High Availability Infrastructure in "Server Pools > Edit Server Pool "
    root@xxxoxxxr1 ~# /usr/lib/ovs/ovs-cluster-check master alter-fstab
    O2CB cluster ocfs2 already online
    2
    Cluster setup complete.
If you have to check whether your HA feature is working - form GUI you can got o server pool - tab -
    edit it
and chk the HA - tab
    and verify-
it HA feature is working properly - it will give you message accordingly.

  • BAM Cluster setup - issue with whole server migration configuration

    HI,
We are working on a SOA , BAM , BPM Cluster setup on OEL VMs
    With Admin server running on Host1 and Soa_server1, BAM_server1 , Host2 - Soa_server2 , Bam_server2.
We were successfully able to setup clustering for Soa without using the webTier utilities in our environment, Just by adding entries in the /etc/hosts file.
Followed the document - except for web tier setup
    http://www.namredlek.nl/orasoa/InstallSOASuite11gOnCluster_v1.pdf
    1)     Installed Weblogic 11g.
    2)     Soa 11g.
    3)     Domain creation
    4) Configured Node manager
    5) Soa Clustering completed successfully.
    6) Domain up and running with SOA_Cluster up and running.
    7)     Extended the domain with BAM
The issue revolves when we are doing teh Migration configurations from the console for BAM and we restart BAM server we get an error -
    Apr 14, 2011 2:30:35 AM weblogic.nodemanager.server.Handler handleStart
WARNING: Exception while starting server 'bam_server1'
java.io.IOException: Command '/oracle/Shared_MWHome/user_projects/domains/SOA_Domain/bin/server_migration/wlsifconfig.sh -addif eth0 192.168.1.6 255.255.255.0 ' returned an unsuccessful exit code '1'. Check NM logs for script output.
and Bam server goes to Failed Not Restartable state.

The error is clearly out there
java.io.IOException: Command '/oracle/Shared_MWHome/user_projects/domains/SOA_Domain/bin/server_migration/wlsifconfig.sh -addif eth0 192.168.1.6 255.255.255.0 ' returned an unsuccessful exit code '1'. Check NM logs for script output.
This error occurs due to a failure in adding the virtual IP of BAM server to the network interface you have specified in nodemanager.properties.
You need to check whether you have specified the correct interface and subnet mask in node manager.properties as below :
The fourth step is to edit the Node Manager's properties file. This file is called nodemanager.properties
and is located in the ORACLE_BASE/product/osbmw/wlserver_10.3/common/nodemanager directory.
For server migration to work properly, you need to add the properties listed below:
    Interface=eth0
    NetMask=255.255.255.0
    UseMACBroadcast=true
    · Interface
This property specifies the interface name for the floating IP (for example, eth0).
    · NetMask
This property specifies the net mask for the interface for the floating IP. The net mask should the
same as the net mask on the interface; 255.255.255.0 is used as an example in this document.
    · UseMACBroadcast
This property specifies whether or not to use a node's MAC address when sending ARP packets,
that is, whether or not to use the -b flag in the arping command.

  • Capacity planning and hardware sizing

    Hi,
I would like to know in detail about capacity planning and hardware sizing while deploying oracle database products. I need to know about properly planning the infrastructure and configuring and deploying the products. Moreover, when should we use RAC,how many nodes, exadata, DR etc. How to size hardwares RAM,Disk for this kind of implemetations.
I know it depends on budget and environment. Still if anyone kindly give some links/docs I will be able to have a decent start in this domain.
    Regards,
    Saikat

See , they all depend on your company policy and the database size that they are going to have.
    1. Size : i have worked on databases sizing from 80G to 2000G , all depending on the client or the industry you are catering to.
    2. hardware and Ram : Server Team should know this better , you can have a simple small server if the DB and application are small and the usage would be less. If it a full fledged system with high load then you need to get in touch with your server team and raise an oracle SR for exact specifications for that database and also plan for some future growth.
    3. RAC : depends on the project if it requires such a setup.
    4. DR : is for disaster management. Also all companies implement this by adopting data guard ( physical standby).
    5. For having a good start , start reading the books and refer to oracle documentation. More you refer , more knowledge you will get .
Start with the basics.... make your basics strong.. and then move ahead with complex setups.
    Regards

  • Simple "cluster" setup

I am reviewing the requirements to setup a centralized management environment and was looking for some guidance on two things so far....
    1. If I have a standalone c360 running right now processing mail and I create a new cluster, I realize it will use the standalone settings as the cluster level
settings as it is the first box in the cluster, but will it require me to restart the appliance before I can join a second box to the cluster?
    2. At this point if I only have two devices in a single datacenter, is it mandatory or a best practice for me to both the cluster level and the group level?
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Chris,
For the first question, You do not need to restart any of the appliances.
For the second one, with only two appliances in the setup, I would recommend using cluster level settings only. The group will be helpful if you require to have multiple sets of appliances with different configuration for each set.
    Hope this will be helpful.

    Hello Christoph,
viewing individual logfiles on the GUI is notavailable for appliances in a cluster. You can still access them via your browser by using:
    ftp://appliancename.local
as URL, where "appliancename.local" is the hostname or IP.  This will prompt you for an username and password, you can use your normal admin credentials. Also possible:
    ftp://[email protected]
    ftp://admin:[email protected]
If you want to include username (and password)
    Hope that helps,
    Andreas

  • Network Extender & Cluster Setup

Does the Ingress unit satisfy the GPS signal requirements for other non-Ingress units in a cluster setup?
We have a large steel warehouse that has no cell coverage in the building. I can provide coverage with 3 Network Extenders. However, my problem is going to be the GPS antenna's. I have 1 window that provides a good GPS signal for the 1 extender I have now. If I purchase 2 additional extenders to complete the AoC will each of them have to lock on to GPS too? Or do the non-ingress units not require GPS. It may be wishful thinking, but our only other option is to cut a hole to access the outside & I really dont think these antenna' can handle the environment.
All units will be on the same network switch.

Ah. And I am guessing (really just confirming) that Open Directory is one piece of functionality which is in OSX Server, but not in the basic Snow Leopard distribution.
Sooo, is it worth digging around to see if any of the linux distributions out there contain Open Directory? I have an old lime (333 MHz) iMac in the basement...

  • Qadmin cluster setup

Hi - I have an iMac and a macbook, both running 10.7.3, same version of Compressor 4, fcpx, and M5.  I am trying to set up a cluster with both these machines, with the laptop as cluster controller and the imac to do heavy lifting.  the qmaster service browser on the book shows both machines with all their service nodes present and accounted for, but greyed out - I can't move them to a cluster controller definition.  I got it to work once when setting the imac to cluster controller, then that stopped also.  Also, when I set up a cluster on the imac, I was able to allocated book services to the cluster, but the jobs never took advantage of them.  Is there some sort of comm link setup I am missing?
    Please help.
    .... clueless

No, we're singing off the same sheet.....
I have another clustering tidbit.  If you embed videos in Motion 5, as one is apt to do, via linked media, and submit this job to a cluster set up according to the Matt Hughes arrangement, the service nodes drop the linked videos (substituting a filled alpha of sorts), and the resulting rendering will not feature said items.  It appears that linked media of that nature is not made available to the service node to do its work.  And if it is intended to do so, but probibited by some Lion rights protection feature, the 'successful' outcome of the Qmaster job status is masking any such trouble.  I know this because I checked all the segments processed by the nodes vs cluster controller (where the media resides) and - yep - rendering failures are only on the nodes for linked media.
Ergo: any complex Motion products are best processed in situ where all the linked media resides.  My guess is its just more NFS trouble, but the fact that Qmaster tells you that everything is ok means there are fundamental protocol failures.

  • Oracle cluster setup

    Hi There,
We're trying to build a clustered oracle environment using oracle 11g (11.2.0.1) under Windows 2008 server.
The basic setup is to have 2 servers (active/passive), one shared SAN disk, install the software on both servers, put the database datafiles on the shared disk/SAN and when needed we can switch the shared disk between the 2 servers as failover/failback.
IS the above industry standard cluster setup? or is there a better way of doing it? does oracle/windows provide a way to failover/failback between servers?
Are there any documents that we can read that explains a good cluster setup please (without using RAC)? Or is there a document that have a better setup?
Can someone shed some light on this please and/or point us to the right direction.
    Thanks

Does oracle clusterware comes shipped with the specific release (10g, 11g..etc) database installation pack or is it a separate download?
We saw this under the oracle download section:
Oracle Database 11g Release 2 Grid Infrastructure (11.2.0.1.0) for Microsoft Windows (x64)
           Download      win64_11gR2_grid.zip (715,166,425 bytes) (cksum - 3127109177)
Contains the Grid Infrastructure Software including Oracle Clusterware, Automated Storage Management (ASM), and ASM Cluster File System. Download and install prior to installing Oracle Real Application Clusters, Oracle Real Application Clusters One Node, or other Oracle software in a Grid Environment So, I was wondering if we should download this and install it on the server?
    Thanks

  • 2012 R2 : Cluster SETUP : Generic Service SETUP :

    Dear All,
I am facing a very strage issue while creating a cluster in Window Servr 2012 Standard R2. I am getting error (in attached file) which is
"The network name 'clustername.domain' is already used in the network".
but when i look into AD Server inside Computers, nothing is showing there with the same NAME or Object. SYSTEM is not accepting any name (you can type anythign as NAME or IP) simply not allowing to create cluster AND THAT SPECIFIC STEP IS FAILING.
Same error i am getting when i tried to add GENERIC Service into cluster, I SETUP cluster using one of the same system accept it. This was the stop becuase after that i was not able to add anything after that point.
"The network name 'servicename.domain' is already used in the network"
again no name or ip is accepted by server
There is another issue i was having two SAN drive D (Data), or E (Quorom). Configuration validation was able to pass all test for harddisk, but only E(Quorom) drive was showing in storage. System was not allowing me to add any other storage disk.
Please note that have a AD on window server 2008 R2 with DNS, and DHCP services. Just to mentioned that i was able to validate the 'Cluster Configuration' without any error prior to create a cluster.
