Code clean up
Hello,
I am new to Dreamweaver (from GoLive and/or just writing out
code).
We have a large site that we are trying to find a quick way
to clean up the code. What I mean by "cleaning" up the code is
getting it better organized on the page. Somewhere along the line,
the code has gotten moved around so that it is not in an easy to
read tabbed format. Things are bumped around, start/end tags at the
end of a line rather than on its own. That kind of stuff.
I had heard that Dreamweaver was friendly to writing code so
I was hoping that it had some type system that allowed to
straighten things up as well.
Even if there was a way to slam everything to the left would
be a help.

Unable to control myself from Code cleaning !
There are many situations where I have to develop code within short time, but I am not able to control myself from cleaning the BD.
From some of my fellow collegues I was advised not to care about the wire bends and other stuffs and complete the code. Later part we can cleanup the code, but I am not able to follow this. Even when I check the code of others and if I see wire bends and mis-alignment I start correcting them.
Feel free to post your opinion.

I am so bad that I usually clean up somebody's diagram just to figure out what they are doing. I also created a few shortcuts to help me clean up. And my number one righ-click menu that I use is "Clean Wire".
My opinion is you will never have time to go back and do it right. Just do it right the first time. This includes clean up and documentation.

Lots of code clean-up / inclusion paths throwing errors.
I just built a test app and I am getting errors all over the place.
First, every page has an include with the 'virtual' method. IE... virtual('/Connections/conNightclub.php');
I need this to be include ('Connections/conNightclub.php');
I also noticed that some paths to includes have a forward slash and some don't. ie.. require_once ('/includes/mxi/MXI.php'); should be require_once ('includes/mxi/MXI.php')
Then, when I fix them by hand the server behavior panel gets exclamation points next to the transactions.

seems you´re getting this error because
(that´s a rather rare case) PHP has been configured as Apache CGI module on your remote server -- "virtual" won´t work then, means you´ll have to change it to "include" yourself

To use the same code for many movieclips

I am using the flash to build my personal book online. I need zoom many movieclip, my images.

what it is designed to do. For example, the statement

basically means that if the CASENOTXT column contains
'-ll’, then look at the RECDT column and if it is NULL, use
the date value of '01/01/1900', otherwise use the date value in the
RECDT column.....
and so on through the other WHEN clauses in your CASE
statement. Is this what you are expecting thsi query to do?

Removing the unused imports keeps your code clean and readable.
As such its a bad coding practice to have unused imports. Also removing them would keep your souce file size small.
Having them, wouldn't have any impact on compilation performance. -
Extremely long build times using object oriented code
We have a LabVIEW application that we need to build an .exe for distrubution purposes. The application relies on several object-oriented classes for data handling and dynamic dispatch type casting and function selection. Currently it takes approximately 1.5 hours to build the application and it seems that most of the time is spent processing the object oriented files. Has anyone else seen this issue and are there any creative ways to improve the build times?
Hi again. We are still having issues using LVOOP due to extrmely long .exe build times as well as long labview loading times. I traced the source of this to one class hierarchy, shown below. This hierarchy also relies heavily on overriding top-level functions, declared as virtual VIs in the top level class, which I suspect contributes to this problem. While debugging another issue, I was trying to build a small piece of my main code into an .exe to verify its functionality and experienced the same extremely long build times. When I removed this class hierarchy from the VI, it built extremely fast. Also to be clear, I am using neither the mean function or Mean.vi anywhere in this set of code. To date we have been delighted with LVOOP and how it has made our code cleaner, mroe robust, and more maintanable. However, when creating new functionality in the code we often elect NOT to create new objects (even though they would be beneficial) because we are hesitant to introduce the extra time (load and build) required for LabVIEW to handle these classes. If our entire system was rewritten in LVOOP, I would suspect that it would become unmaintainable and unbuildable due to the LVOOP overhead. I was hoping that LV2009 would address some of these issues but, alas, it did not. Still looking for a way to improve this and thanks in advance for all of the replies.

How to clean orphan session in WL 7
Why Weblogic 7 can't clean orphan sessions ?
I have one J2EE application using Struts 1.1. On both jsp and java code, cleaning session was carefully coded. However, some users just close browser and open session remains in WebLogic. In web.xml, session-timeout
is 30.
I have noticed orphan session is quite serious in WL7. Is there a method to force-clean it ?

Removing Trash Code after control deletion
HI, my name is Tom�s. I have a problem using the Visual Web Pack 7 with netbeans 5.5.
If I drag n' drop any control (for example a button) to the form (the page) and the I delete this control, the button code isn't removed from the Java source.
I think this make my code very confuse :s
Does exist any way to mantain my code clean automatically?
Thankssss ;)Drag'n'dropping is definitely not productive. Creating might be fast (very significant though), but maintaining and troubleshooting will take a longer time. It's bad if you don't understand the generated code and therefore cannot fix the eventual bugs/issues quickly.
Once you understand the code you'll find the generated code by drag'n'dropping awful. -

Using the Model Facade Pattern in a Java EE 5 Web application

Yutaka and I did a Tech tip
http://java.sun.com/mailers/techtips/enterprise/2006/TechTips_Nov06.html#2 on using a model facade pattern in Java EE 5 web-only applications recently. We got some questions about it, and these were some of the questions raised...
Question 1) the first part of the tech tip(it has two articles in it) http://java.sun.com/mailers/techtips/enterprise/2006/TechTips_Nov06.html showed how to access Java Persistence objects directly from a JSF managed bean, is this a good practice?
Question 2) when to use a facade(as mentioned in the second part of tech tip) ?
and maybe
Question 3) why doesn't the platform make this easier and provide the facade for you?
Briefly, I will take a shot at answering these three questions
Answer 1) You can access Java persistence directly from your managed beans, but as your application grows and you start to add more JSF managed beans or other web components(servlets, JSP pages etc) that also directly access Java Persistence objects, you will start to see that you are cutting/pasting similiar code to handle the transactions and to handle the Java Persistence EntityManager and other APIs in many places. So for larger applications, it is a good practice to introduce a model facade to centralize code and encapsulate teh details of the domain model management
Answer 2) IAs mentioned in answer 1, its good to use a model facade when your application starts to grow. For simple cases a spearate model facade class may not be needed and having managed beans do some of the work is a fast way to jumpstart you application development. But a facade can help keep the code clean and easier to maintain as the aplication grows.
Answer 3) First note that both of the articles in the tech tip were about pure web apps(not using any EJBs) and running on the Java EE5 platform. Yes it would be nice if a facility like this was made available for web-only applications(those not using EJBs). But for web-only applications you will need to use a hand-rolled facade as we outlined in the tech tip. The Java EE platform does provide a way to make implementing a facde easier though, and the solution for that is to use a Session Bean. This solution does require that you use ythe EJB container and have a Session Bean facade to access your Java Persistence objects and manage the transactions. The EJB Session Facade can do a lot of the work for you and you dont have to write code to manage the transactions or manage the EntityManager. This solution was not covered in this tech tip article but is covered in the Java BluePrints Solutions Catalog for Perssitence at

I'm working on an implementation of the Model Facade pattern where you can possibly have many facades designed as services. Each service extends a basic POJO class which I'm calling CRUDService: its short code is provided below for your convenience.
The CRUDService class is meant to generalize CRUD operations regardless of the type of the object being used. So the service can be called as follows, for example:
Job flightAtt = new Job();
SERVICE.create(flightAtt);
Runway r = (Runway) SERVICE.read(Runway.class, 2);
Employee e = (Employee) SERVICE.read(Employee.class, 4);
SERVICE.update(e);
SERVICE.delete(r);SERVICE is a Singleton, the only instance of some service class extending CRUDService. Such a class will always include other methods encapsulating named queries, so the client won't need to know anything about the persistence layer.
Please notice that, in this scenario, DAOs aren't needed anymore as their role is now distributed among CRUDService and its subclasses.
My questions, then:
. Do you see any obvious pitfalls in what I've just described?
. Do you think traditional DAOs should still be used under JPA?
. It seems to me the Model Facade pattern isn't widely used because such a role can be fulfilled by frameworks like Spring... Would you agree?

Struts 1.1 Iterate through input types of image
Hi everyone,
I'm using struts 1.1, and specifically the logic:iterate tag. Basically I'm looping through a List of Users. I print out username, userAccessLevel, two image input types (edit or remove). My actionForm associated with the JSP contains the List of Users.
A User object has an AccessButtons field (among other things),
an AccessButtons object contains two Buttons objects named edit and remove,
a Button object has 3 String fields, x, y, and name, and a "pressed()" function
Essentially I want the Action class to be able to pick up what button was pressed on the ActionForm. Specifically both the user and edit/remove action associated with the button. The code I have so far in the JSP is:

This displays the desired output, but it doesn't help be differentiate the user for which the button was pressed. I left out some of the HTML formatting stuff to keep the code clean.
Anyone have any ideas? I hope I explained what I wanted clearly and concisely...yes, this is a problem, isn't it...
I would suggess make each user iterration include a separate form tag set and have a hidden field with the user id. but I think this will still have a problem of knowing which of the 2 buttons were pressed. There is a problem here, cuz Netscape 7 sends the button name of the button and button.x and button.y, whereas IE 6 only sends the button.x and button.y, and not the button as is... which presents a problem to figuring out what was clicked. (Plain submit type buttons seem to be fine for submitting). At least, I guess just check for the existance of the button_name.x to see which was pressed, but you still need the user ID in the forms. -
