Code Collapse?

Can anyone tell me how to use Code Collapse so its useful? Or
is it just a gimic? The issue is that if I highlight a section of
code to collapse it, I can exit the page and reload it and its
still collapsed. This tells me we must be saving the information
about the region somewhere. However, if I expand it and move the
mouse outside the area it forgets it was ever collapsed requiring
me to go through the steps of selecting and collapsing again. Its
honestly a useless feature as it stands.
It would be really cool if we had some way (within
dreamweaver) to tag a header and footer of a region like C# does
with its #region and #endregion tags that the file remembers the
settings. it would be even cooler if this information could be
shared between developers to save us all time.
Currently Dreamweaver is probably the best editor I've found
for working with php, html, javascript files but its far from being
perfect and after watching it for 4 years now it still doesn't help
very much when you have large source code files to deal with.
any helpful hints would be appreciated.

I think you've captured the essence of code collapse in DW.

• EA1 - Ability to use Search option and code collapse/Expand option in ...

Noticed the following feature which was Scheduled for Release 1.5 is missing.
"Ability to use Search option and code collapse/Expand option in the Normal mode of PL-SQL Editor"
This feature could save a lot of time on code reading/review/....
Thanks,
K.Nataraja Suthan,

You can use the search on the read only (normal mode) of the PL/SQL Editor. Either through menu or using ctrl F.
The other is still an enhancement and is being tracked.

• Code Collapse/Folding in Flex Builder?

Hi,
I am using Flex Builder.  Is there a way to keep my code collapsed/folded?  If I open up a file with a ".as" extension I can collapse my functions but they don't stay collapsed when I re-open the file.
1. Is there a way to keep the code folded so it stays that way until I unfold it?
2. Is there a way to somehow have code folding in .mxml files?
Thanks,
-Westside

Yes, I understand how to do that.  Cold Folding is already enabled.  The problem is if you close/collapse a function then close/re-open the file the functions revert back to open.  So if you have a lot of functions in a Class its nice to be able to collapse the other code when your not working in it.   It also makes scrolling in the file much quicker when everything is collapsed and stays collapsed.

• Code Collapse not working

My code collapses keep on disapearing.
thanks

I also have this problem.
I have 20+ sites that I manage in Dreamweaver CS4 (Version 10 build 4117). Most sites remember code collapse fragments on all files, but I have one site that only partially works. There are two files in particular that show code collapse errors. I can collapse either using the Code Collapse Full Tag button, or I can collapse a selection while I am working on the file. But if I close and reopen, the code collapse fragments are forgotten - this happens even if I save the doc. How do I troublehoot / fix code collapse errors?
Thanks for your help!

• Saving code collapse in ExtendScript toolkit

Hello,
Is there a way to save the code collapse choices for a .jsx file in ExtendScript toolkit 2? Everytime I collapse code, I save the document but the code is expanded once I close and re-open the file.
Thanks for any advice

I'm already doing everything in my power to avoid using ESTK as my IDE.
Non-monospaced font as the default font?  Awesome.  Adjustable UI brightness that only applies to interface elements and not the windows contained within those elements, like the debugging console?  Fantastic.  Automatic reload of changed files that works maybe a third of the time?  Wonderful.
I would be using a 'pure' javascript ide if I could figure out how to link in the adobe app-specific libraries (if that's even doable), but what it boils down to is that I have to use ESTK because of the the integrated debugger.  The integrated debugger is relatively excellent.  When it fails at the only thing that I can't not use it for, words fail me.

@Shraddha,
I only mentioned the code looking OK because I've had issues with code collapse when there were syntax issues with opening/closing tags.  So I was ruling that out as your issue.
Again, what you are seeing might just be a problem with the Aptana plugin that CFBuilder 2 uses.  Adobe bootstrapped HTML/JS/CSS/CFML code formatting and syntax highlighting support by leveraging Aptana in CFB1 & CFB2.  Adobe ditched Aptana and completely rewrote the HTML/JS/CSS/CFML stuff for CFB3, which is why I suggested downloading the beta and trying it out - that would confirm if you indeed are seeing a "bug" in CFBuilder that has been resolved in CFB3.

• How to fully collapse a JTree

This may be another easy question, but I can't seem to figure this out. I tried this:
tree.collapsePath(tree.getSelectionPath());but it didn't work :(
Thanks for your help!

I'm guessing at what the vague term "didn't work" here might mean: that line of code collapses all the nodes on a path from the root to a single node but it doesn't collapse any nodes that aren't on that path. And I don't think that was what you wanted, but I'm just guessing at what "fully collapse" means.

• Comment and uncomment in the new SE38 editor: Doing it the old way

Prerequisites: Front-end Editor (New)
The Front-End Editor is available with SAP GUI for Windows 6.40 Patch level 10 or higher.
Steps:
1) Open SE38(or SE24,SE37,SE80) and click on the icon below the scroll bar (the last one on the right-bottom) this will open Options dialog. Choose  Keyboard from the tree. <a href="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/154/382643543_5732930f15_o.jpg">See the graphics</a>
2) From the Listbox under command choose Edit.LineComment
3) Shortcuts for selected commands will come prefilled as Ctrl + \
Place your cursor in "New Shortcut" textbox and press the old combination (Ctrl + <)
it may look as ( Ctrl + , ) instead of (Ctrl + <)
4) Click Asign
5) Now your new front-end editor will revert back to your old habit of commenting.
6) Repeate Step 3 for the command Edit.LineUncomment
        you may want to map it to the old shortcut  (Ctrl + >)
This changes will be local to your machine and NOT attached to the sap user. Behind the scene all the steps above will edit the file keymap.xml  (keyboard schema file normally kept in C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\ab4_data\) So either copy this file if you move to a new machine or repeate these steps on the new machine.
While you may have seen features like auto complete, code collapse, key word coloring, but you may learn a thing or two (like something called template to create my own custom report header) in blog <a href="/people/thomas.jung3/blog/2005/08/03/new-abap-editor-too-good-to-wait-for ABAP Editor; too good to wait for.</a> by Thomas Jung

Thanks dear,
That was very well explained.  Especially the image and ur explanation.
Looking forward to more answers from you.

• Very confused beginner here...

Hello everyone. I'm new to the board here. I am currently a junior meteorology major with a minor in computer science at Millersville University. To incorporate both my minor and major, I decided to make a computer program that scrolls weather watches and warnings across the bottom of a computer screen (much like they do on television). I am a beginner at Java, only using it for a few months. I really feel like I have bitten off more than I can chew with this program. However, I am dedicated in working through this problem. Below is a copy of the code I am using for this. I keep getting errors, however. I had it working perfectly, besides the fact that a) it never updated and b) it would never scroll more than one watch or warning, meaning it would just loop one over and over. I have also included the errors that I receive during this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am sorry if the code looks a bit trashy and disorganized. These are just some things, being a rookie, that I am going to have to learn how to clean up. Thanks

I don't know. There are classes your code requires (e.g., everything in the de.nava.informa packages) that I don't have, so I can't really compile or run your code.
I will say this: it's a confused mess. There's too much code and too little abstraction. This is typical of beginning object-oriented programmers.
When you start seeing LOTS of repeated stuff like this:
                      if (newscroll.contains("Tornado warning".toUpperCase()))
                         scrollLabel.setBackground(red);
                      }alarm bells should start ringing in your head. It appears that a Map with a String as key and Color as value is wanted. I can make all that code collapse into something MUCH smaller. If I externalize all those awful Color declarations into a File that's read on startup (e.g., taking in the key message and the RGB values and initializing the Map), now I have something that I can change more easily. AND there's less code to manage.
I see URLs, applet, TimerTask, HTML - the kitchen sink.
I can't tell you what this class is about.
Be lazier - write less code. That's what good programmers do.
Try to think more abstractly.

• OutOfMemoryExcepion when trying to create MediaDetClass object

Hello ,
I have a web site that uses a FrameGrabber project which capture a frame out of video.
This FrameGrabber is using the DexterLib dll.
Until now , everything worked fine on our previous server that uses server 2003 OP,but lately we published this site on
a new server that Using server2012 op. Since then the DexterLib collapses on this row:
MediaDetClass mediaDet = new MediaDetClass();
with the following error:
Creating an instance of the COM component with CLSID {65BD0711-24D2-4FF7-9324-ED2E5D3ABAFA}
from the IClassFactory failed due to
the following error: 8007000e Not enough storage is available to complete this operation.
(Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007000E (E_OUTOFMEMORY)).
More Over ,In all of our developers machine, the code works fine with no errors.
I tried to debug the project in the visual studio on the new servers machine and seperate this row to another file ,
And the same thing happend , the code collapsed with the same error.
When I created a new seperated console application on this machine, using the framegrabber, everything worked fine.
Even more odd  is that when I added a new web site to the current solution with a test page that uses the frame grabber,
again,everything worked fine.
I tried to rebuild the solution , and remove the DexterLib dll and add it again. Everything I tried until now , had failed.
Any help will be appreciated,
Kind Regards,
Tal Humy

Hi Tal humy,
Per my understanding, this thread is related to DirectShow forum. Please reopen thread on that forum for effective response.

• My selector panel collapses with every change or adjustment - even when I have the element choosen in the code - how do I keep this from happening?

I first choose the relevant source in the code and then open it in the Selector panel area of the CSS Designer.  But once I attempt to make changes the Selector panel collapses and goes blank after the first change.  Then I have to reselect the appropriate source in the Sources panel, reselect in the Selectors panel and make another change. And so on...  What am I doing wrong?

Mine doesn't show anything in the CSS Designer panel when I make a selection in Code Vew. It will only pop up the css set for a given element if I select that element in Design View first. If I drill down using the Sources and Selectors sub windows in the CSS Designer panel itself, it works the same in both. I pretty much never use it, but it doesn't do what you're explaining in my version of DWCC, so I'd guess you may have some slight corruption in the program.
Unless, does it make a difference if you have Live View turned on or not?
You could try clearing the program cache/personal config folder: Deleting a corrupted cache file
Or restoring preferences if the cache doesn't do the trick: Restore preferences | Dreamweaver CS4, CS5, CS5.5, CS6http://helpx.adobe.com/dreamweaver/kb/restore-preferences-dreamweaver-cs4-cs5.html

• Expand collapsed code by double-click. A ticking bomb

I might have posted about this before, but since the technical support doesn't accept cases after-hours (they seem not like to arrive to the office with tons of requests, so we are all squeezed to the the group of those that have the time to wait in line - in the chat… which often closes itself because of the long time waited)
When I double click collapsed code to expand it, Dreamweaver ALWAYS crashes. It might be on the spot, or later.
If I NEVER double click collapsed code, Dreamweaver can run for weeks without even closing it (I never shutdown my MacBook Pro)
If I do it, it WILL crash, usually on the spot, or minutes later.
When I dare to do it, and I forget that I did minutes later, I end up regretting when it finally crashes, and it NEVER dissapointed me: Soon it crashes as expected.
I already deleted all the possible preferences and customizations, and it still happens.
It's been happening for years, so it's not only DreamWeaver CC. Definitely from CS4 and up.
I use creative swite CC, on Mac OS 10.6.8

Can you confirm the version(s) of DW you're running on 10.6.8?
Dreamweaver CC only runs on Mac OS X 10.7 and higher

• Where is the code for the collapse button in the default SAP iview layout?

I need to eliminate the collapse/restore button displayed on each iView tray. I was looking at the default layout component (com.sap.portal.layouts.default) but I could not find the code for the tray.  The code for "FullWidth.jsp" (this file that implements the "FullWidth" component) is below:
<%@ taglib uri="prt:taglib:com.sap.portal.reserved.layout.TagLibHtmlb" prefix="hbj" %>
<%@ taglib uri="prt:taglib:com.sap.portal.reserved.layout.TagLibLayout" prefix="lyt" %>
<lyt:template>
        <hbj:content id="myContext" >
            <hbj:page title="Portal Page">
                <lyt:container id="column1"  />
            </hbj:page>
        </hbj:content>
</lyt:template>
as you can see, there is no reference to the tray tags.
note: I am familiar with how to create a new iView tray using the new Layout Tag Library (from blog below)
EFP: Layout Tag Library
, but I want am not interested in this approach... All I want is to modify the EXISTING tray.

• Flash CC collapse code

What happened to highlighting a section of code and collapsing it?
Also if editing an if statement where the { is on the same line as if, when you add a new line when the text cursor is just after the {, a new } is added even though there is already one there that's matched.

Are you editing external scripts? If so it's always a good idea to check out other editors like Adobe Flash Builder (commercial) or FlashDevelop (open source). I use both quite a bit and the IDE supports all of that logic and more. Block-based folding and matching logic.

• Flash IDE: Retain collapsed code

I've been developing using Flash CS4 Professional and have some rather large classes. I like to collapse the code to make it more managable, but when I save the file and reopen later, the code remains collapsed only occasionally. The vast majority of the time, it's expanded and I have to go through the class and re-collapse everything.
I searched the internet and found absolutely nothing on this topic. I don't know if this is normal behavior, or a bug...
Can anyone help?
