Code to resize flash content based on screen dimmensions? Already encountered problems.

Ok Guys-
So I have put up a trial of my flash website-
www.nicksdesign.com/flash
I'm new at flash- as this is the first project I've done in
flash, and the problem is...
I put the file in a simple HTML file in dreamweaver, and i
published the files, tested them on my computer, and it's great-
the size fits enough so that no scrolling is needed.
However-
I asked a friend to test it- and on his computer you are
required to scroll both vertically and horizontally in order to see
all the content on the 100% flash website.
My question-
Are there any codes that can resize the swf file or the HTML,
based on screen resolution/browser [however- we tested in the same
browser]
Any help would be SUPER appreciated
Best Regards,
Nick Smith

Hi Gorka, thanks for your post! Here is my problem in as
small a nutshell as I can manage! The site I'm creating depends a
lot on animation of characters around the screen so this all has to
be done in flash, I drew the Frame of the site in Flash and a lot
of the buttons etc will be flash although I have to use some jpegs
as buttons on the top of the site as well as a lot of other bitmaps
(product shots etc.) in the content welI. I had to reduce them (and
size all the other bitmap elements) in photoshop to exactly the
size they will appear in the content well in flash. Even the jpeg
buttons I created, I had to output two different sized versions of
the same image for each button, as if I enlarge the image even
slightly in flash for a rollover state, it looks awful.. now it
looks great but the resulting swf is huge! My main concern at the
moment as I said, is what way I can output the swf so that it will
fit perfectly into any browser window without having to scroll, and
keep the quality of all the bitmap elements, and the client is also
worried about having huge areas of white space around the frame of
the site. I'm very interested to know more about the 'stage class'
you mentioned, i haven't come across this before, just before I got
your message, I had found a link to this page:
http://forums.ultrashock.com/ff.htm?http://forums.ultrashock.com/forums/showthread.php?s=& threadid=83535
is this what you were talking about? Your offer of help is
greatly appreciated, if you can help me understand what needs to be
done I'll be eternally grateful! Thanks, Eoin.

  • Create Flash Content for Pocket PC "Windows Mobile 2003 SE" from Flash Professional 8

    Hi all,
I would like to create a standalone flash application on my
two pocket PCs (Dell Axim x50 and Qtek S110). These pocket PC
uses the "Windows Mobile 2003 SE" operating system.
At this time, I have installed the "Flash Player 7 for Pocket
PC" on my 2 pocketPCs. Apparently, I have not flash player
    application
that is able to load .swf files but only a plugin for Pocket
    IE. Do you confirm?
I have the license to use "Flash Professional 8". Could you
explain me the procedure to publish flash content for my Pocket PC?
Which Flash version I have to use?
Which Action Script I have to use?
Is it possible to test my application with Flash Pro 8?
Finally, I would like to develop a Flash application in
fullscreen mode and not embedded into Pocket IE. Is it possible to
    realize
    that with Flash Pro 8?
    Sincerely,
    Romain

    Hi Romain.
As at the time of this writing,
I suggest you have a look at Flash Assist by AntMobile
    (www.antmobile.com)
It will allow you to view Flash content at full screen.
It officially supports Flash 5 and 6, but I've used it with
    Flash 7 for the PPC.
Flash 7 for the PPC supports AS 2.0
Macromedia hasn't released a stand alone player /
distribution Kit, or CDK for Flash Player 7 for the PPC, and I am
    anxiously awaiting that as well.
However, the stand alone player for the Flash Player 6 for
    the PPC is available
You will want to change your publish settings to Flash 7,
    AS2.0
    Do some hunting around.

I took a look at your html source code, I notice that your
size of width sets at 1270 while height sets at 537. The width is
    way too wide.
Secondly, flash-based website aren't that cool.
Finally, you probably get a better help from Flash forum
participants. This forum is all about Dreamweaver-related topics,
and is not about how to create or design Flash for the first time.
Hope that helps and good luck with your project.
    Cheers, Brian

Go to the HTML tab and choose 'Percent' from the Dimensions
    dropdown.
Set Width and Height to 100.

No. Get it fix by making an appointment with the Apple genius bar.

    Hi.
When this happens, please press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC and see how much RAM and CPU Firefox is using. If they're sky high, then... Well, that kind of issues are, unfortunately, more common and the we'd like. Thankfully, 99% of the cases are very easy to solve. However, you do need to diagnose what your exact problem is. Do this:
    #run Firefox in safe-mode to disable all extensions and plugins. If this fixes your issues, be them with RAM or CPU usage, then you know it's a problem with plugins or extensions. Proceed to number 2. If safe-mode doesn't fix the issues, then read bellow, after this list;
    #update all extensions and plugins in your Firefox. If this doesn't solve the issues, proceed to the following number;
#disable all extensions and plugins in your Firefox (not running safe-mode). Being certain that, as in safe-mode, the problems you're having have gone away, enable one plugin at a time. You should be certain that you WANT that plugin to be enabled, so keep your overall number of plugins as low as possible. When you encounter the problems, you know you've found a problematic plugin, so disable it for good. Keep enabling all plugins (except problematic ones) until you've gone through them all.
    #enable one extension at a time. Again, be certain that you WANT that extension to be enabled, so keep your overall number of extensions as low as possible. When you encounter the problems, you know you've found a problematic extension, so disable it for good. Keep enabling all your extensions (except problematic ones) until you've gone through them all;
#you're done! You've fixed your problems with problematic add-ons.
Ok, if disabling all extensions and plugins through safe-mode didn't work to bring Firefox's CPU and RAM usage to good levels, then you have different issue. The most likely scenario is that you have a third party software running on your computer that is messing with Firefox. Do as follows:
    #do a virus/malware check on your computer. If this doesn't fix it, proceed;
    #disable all software running in the background that you don't want to have running in the background (in windows, this is done by pressing WINDOWS+R in your keyboard, typing "msconfig" (without the commas) and pressing enter. Now, under the "Startup" tab, you can uncheck the software you don't want, and reboot your system for changes to take effect. If you're unsure of what software you want running, ask someone with more experience). If this doesn't fix you issues with Firefox, proceed;
    #check your firewall/antivirus/security suite for enabled functions/features that you don't want and/or may be conflicting with Firefox. You'll find that these features are most likely tied to Internet Security features, such as link scanners or URL checkers and the like. If you're not sure they are conflicting with Firefox, simply try to disable to see whether or not that's true. As long as you don't browse the web with your antivirus completely off and your firewall completely turned off, there should be no problems. If this doesn't solve the issues, proceed to the following number;
#check your operating system security options, mainly advanced options that are not configured by default. While it's very unlikely that this may be the cause of the problem (after all, it's the last item on the list), it's remotely possible. If this doesn't do it, I'm out of ideas. Except make sure you've followed my instructions correctly.

  • Screen Flickering - Especially with Flash content.

I'm having a lot of trouble with my Mini Server 2.0 quad, 16GB RAM, HD 3000 Integrated graphics.  The problem only occurs via the thunderbolt port connected to my NEC PA271 Monitor.  I'm using an NEC suplied thuderbolt to dislpay port cable. Especially when playing flash content, although some other times as well (Photoshop, Lightroom), the screen will flicker.  Sometimes it's the entire screen, other times just the lower 1/4 or so.
The problem gets worse when I connect the display through my Pegasus R6 RAID box.  Through the pegasus the screen completely looses contact, and has to reconnect.  Sometimes it will not reconnect and I have to restart the entire system.
Interestingly, I watched a 50 minute video I purchased from iTunes (.m4v) with NO flickering at all.  Just about any video content on the web will trigger it - Vimeo, youtube, etc.  All of my software is up to date, and no, 10.7.3 did not fix the issue, much to my dissapointment.  I'm running the most recent version of flash player.  I cannot change the refresh rate through system preferences, but I believe 60 Hertz is correct for this display.
I've also got a 23" ACD (silver), connected to the same machine via HDMI.  It has never shown any issues.  I have connected the NEC display to other computers (via DVI) with no issues.  I've also connected the NEC to this machine via HDMI with no issues.
Thanks for any help or suggestions.
    Kyle

    Bump - And...
If I disconnect one of the displays it will not happen either.  Similarly, with both displays connected, if I reduce the resolution of the NEC it will not happen.  Called apple, they said fresh install, which I have done, without any difference.
    Anybody...?
    Thanks.

  • Why is my flash content not working on my dreamweaver created html site?

This is a problem that's happening on my website I'm creating.  I created a quick test website to show you the problem on the fourm.  It's the same problem, and if you can provide the solution to this test website I can apply it to my main website.
    Test website on server:
    test331754952.net23.net
    What I did:
    -launched flash
-typed "test" and made it spin 360 degrees
    -published swf
    -launched dreamweaver
    -created a site
    -moved swf to site folder
-saved a html file to the site folder
-in dreamweaver, went to insert, media, swf, then selected the swf I made
-it inserted the swf, creating a gray placeholder for it
-re-saved the html document, at which point dreamweaver created a folder named script and 2 files, an swf, and a javascript file
    Site Directory:
    Scripts Sub-Directory:
    What happens:
-when I launch the swf on my machine, it plays fine
-when I open the swf directly on the test website on the server, it plays fine
-when I open the html with the embended swf on the test website on the server, it shows a gray box, then goes white
-In dreamweaver, when I go to preview in browser and choose internet explorer, it tells me I don't have new flashplayer(I do: flashplayer 11)
Ie also pokes up a box at the bottom that says its not allowing content.  When I click allow content, it creates a gray box
-In dreamweaver, when I go to preview in borwser and choose google chrome, it tells me flash player has stopped a potentionally unsafe operation.  When I close this dialog box, it gives me a gray box where my swf should be embeded.
-I've tried changing global flash secuirty setting and it does nothing
-I've tried visiting the test website on multiple computers in my household to no avail
-I've tried having friends visit the site on their computer at their house to no avail
-I did't touch the code on this test website-the code is exactly what dreamweaver generated

Can someone please help!  I've looked and tried prety much everything.  If you can provide a solution I would GREATLY apreciate it!

There is no Flash player version 15... as in your code:
    <param name="swfversion" value="15.0.0.0" />
For some reason Adobe thought it would be a good idea to target a Flash player version (15) as default.....which may be out a couple years in the future. Go figure!!!
If you don't like player version 9, change to 10 or 11.... just not 15 (yet).
    Best wishes,

I have to agree with Ken.  Even if you manage to get Flash into the page background (no small feat) people won't be able to interact with it. That's usability problem #1.
#2 Flash is a dead web technology because the world's most popular mobile & tablet devices cannot see Flash content.  So you're alienating a lot of people before you've even begun.
Depending on what your Flash file contains, you might want to switch to a responsive jQuery image slider like the ones below.
    ResponsiveSlides
    http://responsiveslides.com/
    Cycle 2
    http://www.malsup.com/jquery/cycle2/
Or, use Adobe Edge Animate instead of Flash. Edge Animate outputs to HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript which are supported by all modern devices except IE8 and earlier.  For tips on making Edge Animations adapt to screen size, see the following link.

  • Win8.1/Chrome 64bit: NPAPI Flash Player crashes on every page with Flash content

    Hi,
Chrome 64bit (beta+) crashes on Win8.1 64bit, if I use the NPAPI Flash Player (v15 beta or v14 stable) and open a website with Flash content.
    More details here:
    https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=402262

Turning off NPAPI in Chrome 64-bit will be a very bad move. I'm using a Windows 7 Setup, with a Core2Quad 65 nm CPU and a pathetic Geforce GT 8500 GPU that is basically worthless. PPAPI  flash betas are available as a standalone now at this point, but I have done lots of side by side comparisons, and the PPAPI plugin is absolute garbage compared to the far superior Netscape architecture based plugin. I'm not the only one saying that. I have found loads of forums, and instruction videos online to fix Chrome video playback on youtube for instance. I have to install "Magic Actions for Youtube" addon for chrome so that I can disable HTML5. then I have to go into the plugins menu on chrome and disable pepper flash. I keep the 64 bit flash betas regularly updated this way, and I am getting peak performance. Once in a blue moon it will crash, but I think that is Google's fault. HTML5 should not be the default option in youtube. Compared to Flash, it does not have great GPU acceleration ability, and HTML5 in 64-bit doesn't even perform superior to 32 bit web browsers, where as 64 bit flash is a leap forward, as long as it's the NPAPI version, that is. Problems I have with the HTML5 and also Pepperflash are very similar.   The audio is out of sync with video, and the cpu is maxed out from memory leaking. I'm skipping frames and seeing glitches left and right. The seek functions in pepperflash never work right on youtube, you have to click an inch before wherever you want the video to play. On and on. Pepper flash has audio crackle. You can't get rid of the crackle from pepper flash or HTML 5. Yet, with NPAPI 64 bit flash beta in 64 bit chrome canary it plays PERFECTLY. once in a while I have it crash, which i think is the fault of the fact that I have to use an add on to force off HTML5. Why would I want html5, when flash NPAPI  64 bit produces superior picture quality on all quality settings. It's better in every conceivable way. Shame on Google for not putting more care into 64-bit flash on 64-bit Chrome. It couldn't possibly be a more important deal! You can tell pepperflash and HTML 5.0 are an afterthought. It's only youtube playback quality. why would that matter to google? OMG...
While I'm at it, I have one other issue that blows my mind. Adding command line flags in Chrome 64-bit (Canary) in Windows. Why do we have to add them through a shortcut in the "target" line? The target line runs out of space after 3 or 4 commands! I wish they would update Chrome Canary to allow for unlimited command lines to be added. It should be an option to add Command Lines on the About:Flags screen. I am so disappointed in these two glaring issues. It keeps me up at night.

My original site contained a tooltip and a icon.xml that
direct the icon click to a web page.
I have enclosed the Flash code the new carousel I created,
along with the icon.xml file. I have one web page that works using
    the same XML file
    http://www.susystastebuds.com/CakeZone.html
At this time I’m unable to get new carousel to work on
any other page. I guess the Flash code has changed since the
original one I did. I hope someone is able to provide help as to
why the new one won’t work.
When I click on the icon now, it will close all the other
icons and move up to the left and just stop. Not providing any link
    to another web page.
If anbody has the same code in action script in script 3 that
includes the Tooltip and goto url, that would be great.
    The Flash action script is:

    import mx.transitions.Tween;

  • On Clicking Entrance hyberlink, wanting Flash to open Full Screen

    Hi,
Hopefully, someone can offer their expertise-
If you go to my website "entrance" page, you will notice the
"flash" side of my site as "Studio Entrance".
In the html code, I would like to have the visitor to the
site, click on "Studio Entrance" and then the flash site open FULL
    SCREEN.
Because the images are 900x600, I need as much screen real
estate as possible. I notice that even though some computers are
1024x768, sometimes they have to "scroll" to the bottom of the
flash site to see the links.
    PLEASE HELP!
If you view the page source on the index page, you will of
    course, see the coding.
I attempted to insert your suggestions to another user but no
    luck.
My email address is: [email protected]
    I sincerely appreciate your help.

    The flash swf has
    'width="1000" height="700"
You could set it to width 100%
Has its merits and demerits. Test it on different resolutions
    and see if it
    works for you
The flash swf file has a height of 700px. Most users will end
    up having to
scroll. Same for the page with the pic.
You could put the navigation links both at the top and
    bottom. Regardless
with a height of 700px, viewers with 800x600 px resolution or
    even 1024x768
will not see the entire flash content. Should try and not
    exceed height of
450 px or 500px. Would also reduce the size of the file
You cannot lose until you give up !!!

  • Flash content loaded in IFRAME gets disappeared while applying transform:scale css property

I have an iframe loaded with a flash content inside, and i have to resize the iframe while browser window width changes. So i tried changing transform:scale() property on different media query cut-offs. But unfortunately firefox makes the flash content disappear while applying transform-scale property. Is there any way to overcome this?

Sorry, i don't know how to visualize this. I can paste a sample code here, will it help?
    '''HTML:'''
    <iframe width="900px" class="iframeStyle" align="middle" height="1200px" frameborder="0" src="http://linktoFlashContainingHtml.html"> </iframe>
    '''CSS'''

While applying this tranform:scale property, iframe get scaled but flash content inside the page loaded in IFRAME disappears

  • Round borders are not round but jagged edges above flash content

My JQuery dropdown menu shows round borders when mouse over.
It looks fine on IE & Chrome, but it has jagged edges above flash content on FF16.
    My code is "border-radius: 8px 8px 8px 8px;"
Please, take a look at my screen shot and help me to fix this issue.

Thanks for the reply valf - you can see a trial version of the page here http://www.banded.co.uk/festighoul_trial.html
Notice that there is a large empty black div at the top of the pagewhere flash content should be playing... The tool tip trigger is nearer the bottom of the page (a graphic of a '?')

  • Flash Content on the BBC in Safari 5.0.6

This question applies to my G5 2.5 gHz Tower running Safari 5.0.6. and an issue with Flash content on the BBC News website.
I often the BBC News website, and until a few months ago was able to play all of their video content.  For some inexplicable reason their website now tells me I do not have the minimum Flash version (10.1.0) for playback.  However, I do have the minimum Flash installation (v.10.1.102.64) as confirmed by the Adobe web site, and, seconded by the simple fact that Firefox 3.6.25 on the very same computer does play all the content at the BBC News web site and fails to generate any warnings.
So, Mac gurus and assorted experts who have earned my depest respect... what's going on?  I have written to those in charge of the BBC News web site and indications are they probably didn't read my message past the subject line as they proceeded to ask me all the questions they'd have had answers to by reading my message in the first place.  In short, they asked me to upgrade to Flash 10.1.0... so that route is not going solve my problem.
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks...

BBC iPlayer relies on Adobe Air. AIR 1.5.3 is the last version of AIR that supports Mac PowerPC and Windows 2000. AIR applications that require AIR 2 or later cannot be installed or used on a Macintosh PowerPC or a computer running the Windows 2000 operating system.

I am in the same boat. I cannot watch flash videos on the BBC website or on BBC iPlayer, although all other flash videos (YouTube for example) are fine.
For reasons that passeth all understanding, they work with the PPC version of Firefox, called TenFourFoxG5.app, once you have anabled plug-ins, as it does not natively support Flash.
You can download TenFourFoxG5 from here:
    http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/
Now for the intersting bit: TenFourFox, like Firefox, does not support most plug-ins. Unless you are prone to headaches (in which case don't) you can read about that here:
    http://code.google.com/p/tenfourfox/wiki/PluginsNoLongerSupported
    But there is a workaround!
Open TenFourFox and type in the address bar: about:config (no spaces) and click return. This gives you a warning that it might harm the application. Ignore that and click on 'I'll be careful, I promise' and you get the config file that you can edit - with great care.
    Look/search (scroll down) for: tenfourfox.plugins.enabled
Set it to true. (Double click it to toggle it)
Now close TenFourFox, open it again, and Flash will now work, as it now uses the plug-ins that Safari has stored.
I am using Flash 10.1.102.64 in TenFourFox and it works just fine.
