Lots to go over. I will give you the bottom lines and then go into details..I suspect
a. You are not using the correct files from the DVD disc
b. Your project is not set up correctly with regard to project settings
Your reply with more details will help sort this out.
My Details Customized To The Situation That You Describe....
Part 1. Introduction
Your focus should be on the VIDEO_TS Folder on the DVD disc. And, specifically only the VIDEO_TS Folder's files named VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_02_1.VOB, VTS_03_1.VOB, etc. Nothing else.
There are several ways to transfer these specific files into a Premiere Elements 12 Windows project.
Typical transfer issues could be related to video and audio quality, but more often to out of sync audio.
1. As you did, you could copy/paste them to the computer hard drive and import them into 12 Expert workspace with the program's Add Media/Files and Folders/Project Assets and from there drag them to the Timeline.
2. The preferred way is to insert the DVD disc into the DVD burner tray, open Premiere Elements 12 (with the correct project preset set beforehand), and use Add Media/"DVD Camera or Computer Drive"/Video Importer.
3. If problems with out of sync audio, then the use of the computer Command Prompt to get these files into one file containing the seamless merged files) has been the answer for many in this situation. When you do that, instead of importing individual VOBs into a project with Add Media/Files and Folder/Project Assets instead you bring in one file DVD.VOB. See
http://www.atr935.blogspot.com/2013/09/pe-dvd-videoseamless-vob-ripping.html
Typically "2" works well and you do not have to bother with "1" or "3".
Part 2. Suggested Workflow
Another important matter is setting up the project so that the project settings match the properties of your source files. Premiere Elements 12 is setup to take control over doing that job. Sometimes it does it OK, and sometimes not OK. When not OK, then you set the project preset (the project settings) manually.
To do that, open Premiere Elements 12 Expert workspace, File Menu/New/Project and change the project preset to NTSC DV Standard. Before you close out of the final dialog there, make sure you have a check mark next to "Force Selected Project Settings on This Project".
Here I have assumed that your DVD represent NTSC DV Standard 4:3 and not NTSC DV Widescreen and that you are in a NTSC rather than a PAL setup.
Make sure you have your first DVD in the DVD burner tray, in the Expert workspace, Add Media/"DVD Camera or Computer Drive"/Video Importer. Select only the files with names VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_02_01.VOB, VTS_03_1.VOB as it applies to you. Use the file size as an indicator of what you have plus your previewing opportunities in the Video Importer.
For this first try, leave the Video Importer's Save In: with the default Videos location. And there have a check mark next to "Add to Timeline". There are additional important details on how to deal with the additional DVD discs that you may have. I will go over that detail which will involved the Save In so that do not run into Already Imported Errors.
We can go over each phase of the process at whatever pace you want to go at. But, I need your specific details to do that.
We will be watching for your results. Please do not hesitate to ask questions and ask for clarification on anything written.
Thank you.

  • Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro Mic/Codec problem

Okay, I'm running a ZS Plat Pro and I'm having some problems with my mic settings for some reason. Here's the deal:
My headphones are plugged into my external hub with the mic into the Line In slot. I have sound, theres power, that's all good. The problem lies with my microphone settings somewhere, I dunno where, with a possible codec problem I'm guessing. Here's why.
I can't get ANYTHINGto pick up in my mic. All the settings are correct in Control Panal and in my Creative Volume Control. Line In is selected for Recording, the volume is up, it's not muted, my headset is not muted, and the gain is turned on on my external hub, yet still nothing. Here is where hopefully someone can help. I can get it to work in Ventrilo when I go into setup. In setup to test with, I have to select a Codec from a list to use to test with. Meaning, there is NO current selected codec to test with. Once I select one, it works.
What I'm guessing is somehow, my computer doesn't have a current codec selected for my mic to work with. IE: MSN, Yahoo, Windows Sound Recorder, control panal/sound and audio/test hardware... they all come up detecting no sound at all, when in FACT, I know it works in Ventrilo when I select a codec.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled the card with up to date drivers. Can anyone help at all please? Thank you.

  • I just ran an Apple software update and lost video in my Final Cut 7 running on OS 10.6.8.  It is indicating a codec problem.  Any ideas on how to fix this?

I just ran a software update and lost video in my FCP 7 timeline (OS 10.6.8).  I get an error message that there is a codec problem and get either a green or black screen.  Anybody have idea how to fix this?

what happens if you create a new apple prores 422 sequence and drop bars and tone into it.
Does it display correctly?  If so, I'd assume the the prores codecs are ok.
Not sure I"ve worked with hdv2 material.  You may need to reinstall your os and fcp and not do the latest software update.  People have definitely reported problems with hdv material after the update.   Maybe someone will speak up with an alternative solution.

  • Codec problem with Quicktime

    Hey everyone,
    Here is my problem:
    -I am shooting a movie on a Panasonic hx200: it's in 720p60
-I am using the FS-100 drive to record the media
-When going to view the footage in Quicktime 7.5.5, I get a solid black screen with audio. Quicktime then alerts me I don't have the right codec.
-I have been searching all around the web and different forum sites and have yet to find the proper codec.
Where can I find the right codec and download it so I can view my footage in quicktime?

  • Codec problem with one gateway

I am having a very strange problem with one of my gateways. No matter how I set up my regions and device pools I continue to have all calls go through this gateway as G729. This would be fine except that I can't do conference calls because of codec mismatches.
The gateway is a PRI running H323. CM 3.2.2(c) Gateway is a 3640 running 12.2.11(t)
All regions are currently set to G711.
I read something about a command under voice-port that sets the default codec. What I don't understand is, if this is what is causing it to go to G729, why is this the only gateway that ignores the regions.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Cisco VoIP gateways support the codec negotiation feature. This feature provides the ability for a Cisco VoIP gateway to connect to other VoIP devices without necessarily knowing which codec is used for a call-setup. Also, this feature allows Cisco VoIP gateways to dynamically adjust to changes on remote devices. As long as the codec used by the remote VoIP device matches the capabilities-list of the Cisco VoIP gateway, the VoIP call is completed.
The following example shows how to configure codec negotiation:
    Cisco-router# config t
    Cisco-router(config)# voice class codec 1
!--- This sets up class 1 to be assigned to the dial peer.
    Cisco-router(config-class)#codec preference 1 g723r63
    Cisco-router(config-class)#codec preference 2 g729ar8
    Cisco-router(config-class)#codec preference 3 g711ulaw
    Cisco-router(config-class)#codec preference 4 g726r32 bytes 240
!--- These commands define the preferred codec list using 1,2,3, and 4 to set the preference.
    Cisco-router(config)#dial-peer voice 1 voip
    Cisco-router(config-dial-peer)#voice-class codec 1
    !--- This assigns voice-class codec 1 to the dial-peer
    Cisco-router(config-dial-peer)#destination-pattern 4723155
    Cisco-router(config-dial-peer)#session target ipv4:192.168.100.1

  • Codec problem with cannon XH A1

hello Im using a cannon XH-A1 and I'm having capture problems.
I filmed in HDV but the capture wont read the camera while in HDV apple codec 1080i.
never had a problem before it keeps telling me can't initiate HDV deck. any help?
It will initiate if i use NTSC but not any HD?

I'd be thinking your camera is set to output something other the HDV 1060i if this is not working. Double check the Canon's output.
The same settings will apply to Pro as well with the same codec. Upgrading will not cure a basic configuration problem.

i want sound through hdmi, i am using a radeon 4550 (xf86-video-ati, R700 is in the feature matrix)
    some outputs:
lsmod only has things on snd-hda-intel, which is the onboard sound, i guess

i think the problem shows up in dmesg|grep hda-intel

  • Media suddenly offline, codec problem?

3 AVI files suddenly went offline after i upgraded from CS4 to CS5
I am unable to find a solution to this myself, anyone out there who can help me?
    Thank you. <3

If you're dealing with files that are showing up with only audio and no video, you may have in issue similar to one I had when moving from CS4 to CS5. Somehow CS5 doesn't read things correctly and can't find all the info in the file. My specific scenario was with RED files in a .mov wrapper, but I've seen it happen with other codecs in a .mov wrapper. Never seen it happen with an .avi wrapper, but there's a first-time for everything, I suppose. Try this solution, given to me by Colin Brougham last fall when I had a similar issue. Fixed mine perfectly.
    And here's the fix:
Download MPEG Streamclip, and unzip it--no install needed. The latest beta version is fine.
Open one of the broken files in MPEG Streamclip.
Select File > Save As, and select a new save location. You probably want to keep the file name the same as the original (this is the default).
    Hit OK.
    Profit!
The full details of my problem and Colin's eventual fix can be found here.

  • Premier CS4 - codec problem?

I have a DVD-R with several .avi files on it. It was mailed to me for use in a project. I cannot tell you what type of camera or what software they used to burn this dvd. I tried to use the clips in Premier, but they would not work. I can open them in WMP. I'm working in Vista 64 with CS4.
I went into properties to see what extension and codec was used. Though the extension says .avi, the codec says "MainConcept (Adobe2) MPEG Video Decoder". The size is 640 x 480.
Can anyone tell me how to convert these .avi files to files that can be read by Adobe Premier CS4? I don't see that codec listed. I read the file on ImTooVideo Converter, but that doesn't seem to list the solution to this particular problem.
    Suggestions?

Bill - I used Adobe Encoder and it encoded the files to .avi from whatever it actually was. However, it did not encode the audio. I have good quality video with no audio. I tried a couple of times.
Any idea on how to convert the audio now that the video is done?
I can't download that Gspot program. The video computer is off line w/no virus protection. I really try not to add anything to that system. It's very touchy - using windows vista 64 etc etc.

  • Codec Problems/ avi. files

    Hello everyone,
I have been trying to fix this problem for a while now, but with no suitable solution.
    Here is the thing:
I've been using Premiere CS 6 (Version 6.0.3) on my Windows 7, 64bit PC, quite a while now and it normally works like a charm,
but when I try to import certain .avi files, which I recorded with a camcorder, it keeps telling me, that the format is not supported.
I already tried it with severeal clips, but no luck there.
The thing is, if I try it on a friends Macbook it works fine and imports without and error message (she also uses Premiere CS 6).
So, I figured there must be something wrong with the codecs.
I tried to install different things to make it work, for example the whole divx codecs and the avid codecs, but nothing seems to work.
I ran one of the videos through GSpot, which tells me, that all the needed codecs are installed, but I really can't get the videos to work in Premiere.
Is there anyone who might help me with this issue or has the same problem?
I would be very, very thankful if anybody could help me solve this.

You sure about that?  I'm not aware of any cameras that record H.264 to an AVI file.  It's about 90% MP4 and maybe 10% QuickTime.
That suggests you're not playing with camera original media here, but something that's been converted.  If so, you may want to get your hands on the originals.
It is the original data from the camera, thats what I find confusing about the whole situation.
I am really thankful for your help, but somehow I can't understand why a professional tool like Premiere can't handle H.264 in an .avi wrapper.
There must be another way for a windows pc to get it to work, even if the converting is an option.
As I said before, I tested it on a mac with Premiere CS 6 and it imports like a charm.

  • Codec Problem when switching computers

I am having a problem, where I copy my .fcp and all the videos that are with it, to another computer.
I have a macbook with leopard.
the other computer is a 2ghz core duo imac (the white ones)which has tiger
It says it cant find the codec.
Also, sometimes thef iles arent connected, when i try and reconnect them, it says the times don't match up. Im literally using the same files, nothing is different.
Any help on what to do to switch computers to work on things would be very helpful

DX50 is a DivX format and is not a natively supported codec. the trouble is that the Mac where it plays properly has had a third party codec installed which enables that file type, whereas the other one hasn't
Download and install Perian form http://www.perian.org then see if it doesn't automaigaclly start working

  • Premiere Pro CS5 codec problem

Hey all.  Here's the problem.  At work I use Premiere CS3 on an old Edius box that has Canopus codecs.  When I archive a final copy, I use a DVCPRO HD codec, specifically the Canopus SD50/DVHD codec, to an AVI file.
At home I have a new copy of CS5 on a new machine.  I brought home some of these AVI files from work that used the Canopus SD50/DVHD codec.  I could not open them up at home on anything.  I went and found the codec and installed it.  Now I can open the files with Media Player no problem, but I cannot import them into Premiere, Adobe Media Encoder, or After Effects.  The result is audio and not video.
Any suggestions that don't include re-exporting everything using a different codec?
    Thanks!

Any suggestions that don't include re-exporting everything using a different codec?
Unless there is a 64-bit version of the codec, you're limited to doing just that. You might be able to drop $160 on DVCPRO HD: MainConcept. No guarantees that'll even work though.
I'd just convert them to Lagarith Lossless Video Codec or Ut Video Codec Suite; they're lossless, free, and will both work in Premiere Pro CS5.

  • Alsa codec problem [updated 01/11/10]

I just assembled my new machine running arch.
When I plug in headphones to the front panel sound comes through them but also comes through the speakers still.
I have tried muting various things in alsamixer with no success.
    Some outputs that may help:
    $ cat /proc/asound/card0/codec\#* | grep Codec
    Codec: Realtek ALC889
    $ lspci | grep Audio
00:14.2 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA)
01:00.1 Audio device: nVidia Corporation High Definition Audio Controller (rev a1)
(its the ATI one I want. The nvidia one is simply the HDMI on my GPU)
I've done a fair amount of googleing but I'm not good with sound.
Spent most of the morning getting the new Saitek cyborg R.A.T.5 mouse to work XD.
Would be glad of some help
    thanks

    Note:
I do NOT have pulseaudio installed. Would it help in any way?
I have no problems getting sound to play from multiple programs at once.
    EDIT:
have now installerd pulseaudio and all plugins and gnome integration packages as suggested in the wiki.
I now get far more control over my sound preferences but the speakers still don't mute when the headphones are plugged in.

    This output looks wrong.
doesn't seem to load snd_hda_codec_realtek or snd_hda_intel or maybe that's normal. I don't really know.
    Would this give any clues?:
    $ lsmod|grep '^snd' | column -t
    snd_hda_codec_nvhdmi 14329 4
    snd_seq_dummy 1463 0
    snd_seq_oss 28792 0
    snd_seq_midi_event 5436 1 snd_seq_oss
    snd_seq 50146 5 snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi_event
    snd_seq_device 5297 3 snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq
    snd_hda_codec_realtek 269269 1
    snd_hda_intel 22285 4
    snd_hda_codec 77223 3 snd_hda_codec_nvhdmi,snd_hda_codec_realtek,snd_hda_intel
    snd_hwdep 6110 1 snd_hda_codec
    snd_pcm 71445 3 snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec
    snd_timer 19265 2 snd_seq,snd_pcm
    snd 57626 16 snd_seq_oss,snd_seq,snd_seq_device,snd_hda_codec_realtek,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_hwdep,snd_pcm,snd_timer
    snd_page_alloc 7249 2 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm
I have sent off my results of that script.
Oh and ATM my modprobe.conf reads:
    options snd-hda-intel model=6stack
    options snd-pcsp index=1
    EDIT:
I am no longer too concerned about finding a fix for this as apparently it happens to some people with this board in windows too and relies on some advanced drivers that only work with windows vista and 7.
So......... I have purchased a second hand set of 5.1 speakers with an included headphone jack which sort of solves my problem.
I will leave this thread open as I would be interested in a proper fix, but as this is relativly new hardware I don't expect one at once.

  • File Format / Codec Problem

I have Premiere Elements 9 installed and when I try to get media from AVI files for video taken with my sealife 1400DC, I get an error message that complains about the file being the wrong format or codec not being installed, is there a fix for this error?  the file will play on windows media player..

From what I have read of your camera's specifications, the video is recorded with MotionJPEG video compression which can be a problem for Premiere Elements (any version). File extension is .avi.
It is a toss up whether the codec is not installed or whether Premiere Elements is not recognizing it.
    The classical remedies are
    1. Look for a utility that came with your camera, and install it to supply the needed codec
    2. Convert the video to another format
    3. Download and install a MotionJPEG codec from Online (not free)...for informational purposes only, the Morgan MotionJPEG video codec has been
used successful by those who explored this possibility. Definitely go the codec tryout route which Morgan does offer
    http://www.morgan-multimedia.com/morgan/php/products.php?sProductId=4&sProductSub=download s
And, if it works for you, then decide if it is worth the investment as a purchase.
Please let us know the outcome.
    Thank you.
