Coherence and XTP(Extreme Transaction Processing)

There are many articles and reports about Coherence and XTP(Extreme Transaction Processing), however I think in many cases Coherence can improve performance for query operation not for write operation dramatically, because there are many restricts for cache persistence through Coherence, for example global transaction, XA datasource, transaction spans among many caches. So I think there is a long way to go if Coherence wants to implement real XTP, am I right, any comments?

Coherence and EclipseLink - JTA Transaction Manager - slow response times

A colleague and I are updating a transactional web service to use Coherence as an underlying L2 cache. The application has the following characteristics:
Java 1.7
Using Spring Framework 4.0.5
EclipseLink 12.1.2
TopLink grid 12.1.2
Coherence 12.1.2
javax.persistence 12.1.2
The application is split, with a GAR in a WebLogic environment and the actual web service application deployed into IBM WebSphere 8.5.
When we execute a GET from the server for a decently sized piece of data, the response time is roughly 20-25 seconds. From looking into DynaTrace, it appears that we're hitting a brick wall at the "calculateChanges" method within EclipseLink. Looking further, we appear to be having issues with the transaction manager but we're not sure what. If we have a local resource transaction manager, the response time is roughly 500 milliseconds for the exact same request. When the JTA transaction manager is involved, it's 20-25 seconds.
Is there a recommendation on how to configure the transaction manager when incorporating Coherence into a web service application of this type?

Yeah Volker, you are absolutely right. the 10-12 seconds happens when we have not used the transaction for several minutes...Looks like the transactions are moved away from the SAP buffer or something, in a very short time.
and yes, the ABAP WP's are running in Pool 2 (*BASE) and the the JAVA server, I have set up in another memory pool of 7 GB's.
I would say the performance of the JAVA part is much better than the ABAP part.
Should I just remove the ABAP part of the SOLMAN from memory pool 2 and assign the JAVA/ABAP a separate huge memory pool of say like 12-13 GB's.
Will that likely to improve my performance??
No, I have not deactivated RSDB_TDB in TCOLL from daily twice to weekly once on all systems on this box. It is running daily twice right now.
Should I change it to weekly once on all the systems on this box? How is that going to help me?? The only thinng I can think of is that it will save me some CPU utilization, as considerable CPU resources are needed for this program to run.
But my CPU utilization is anyway only like 30 % average. Its a i570 hardware and right now running 5 CPU's.
So you still think I should deactivate this job from daily twice to weekly once on all systems on this box??

I remember working on the 3.2 version of soultion manager on change management and the response times very much better than this as compared to 4.0.

Purchasing - A/P Transaction Processing for Services and Non Inventory Item

On of the main areas of concern that businesses have is in the area of Purchasing, Goods Receipts and AP Invoices Processing - There is a requirement that businesses have widely referred to as 3-way matching.
While SAP Business One has this functionality covered quiet well via the following, there is still some need for enhancements so that the application can correctly reflect the AP Accruals:
- Purchase Order processing with Approval Process (if configured)
- Ability to perform Goods Receipts for Services.
- Matching of AP Invoices to Goods Receipts with AP Invoice Approval Process (if configured)
The above transactions serve the 3-way matching quiet well for all purchases however when it comes to accuring for Services that have been provided, the application does not do this. The Goods Receipt transaction processing to acknowledge the service delivery is allowed however the related posting to the allocation account is missing.
The process that is followed by the application is same for Items that have not Inventory Items in Item Master.
As a result of the above, the business have to manually work out what the Accurals for services provided but not invoiced should be.
With little enhancement to the product this shortfall could very easily be overcome.

Once there are transactions, we cannot make existing Inventory type item to Non Inventory type item.
Check SAP note:937297 which states as follows :

What DataSource does your testalias refer to?
- If it is a custom DataSource, you must have created this custom DataSource also.
- If it is the default DataSource, you shouldn't have this problem in general...

How can i implement a Transaction Processing procedure in my web app ?

Im planning to enhance my web app servlet.
the web app is about Online Banking.
since it is Online banking, there would be time where simultaneous user accessing their account. mean several connection is made on my db.
I read some article about Transaction processing, so i think it is wise for me to
implement on my web app but i not sure where to start and in what way can i integrate it with my web app.
here are several thing i have in mind..
making the admin able to monitor , or better if can coordinate the transaction.determine the network traffic on my web app. etc.

The probleme is that you have to include in your rule the transactions rule, to allow the acount where you whant to load icp transaction.
If you are working with YTD that you should use a diferent acount to load the icp transaction and then make the ajustment.
Becuse the program would not allow to load data and if you have already data it will give you an error, if you load your rule with the integrity box check

Using Coherence and Oracle Database as the CacheStore

We are working on implementing a solution using Coherence and Oracle Database as the CacheStore. We initially implemented the Cache as a distributed-scheme which in turn uses the backing-map-scheme. We are trying to introduce transaction management and I used a scheme-ref in a transactional-scheme to point to an already existing distributed-scheme. However when I bring up the server, my custom coherence-cache-config.xml file is not recognized and Coherence comes up with the default setting. Given below is the snippet of my configuration file.
1)     I would like to understand why the below configuration doesn’t work and am I doing it the right way? If not, what is the correct way of doing it?
2)     There are a multiple transaction management options given in the documentation. Which are the ones that will work with a distributed-scheme and read-write-backing-map-scheme?
3)     If transactional-schemes cannot work with distributed-scheme, what is the best way to have a distributed cache with a oracle database as a cache store?

If you look at the documentation for transactional-scheme here: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24290_01/coh.371/e22837/appendix_cacheconfig.htm#BHCIABHA
you will see that it says The transactional-scheme element defines a transactional cache, which is a specialized distributed cache. That means that a transactional-scheme is already a distributed-scheme.
You will see from the same documentation above that there is no way in a transactional-scheme to configure things like cache-stores or listeners or even the backing-map-scheme as these are not supported on a transactional-scheme - so you cannot use a cache store.
Personally I would not use transactional-scheme unless you have some really big reason to do so - the restrictions far outweigh any perceived advantage of having a transaction. There are better ways to build applications so they do not require transactions, that is what we have been doing for years with Coherence so far, and there is no real reason to change that.

Transaction Process not rolling back

Hi Experts,
I am testing the Transaction Process which uses a DB Adapter (which calls a procedure) to insert data into a table. There are 2 fileds in the table (employee id and employee name) and in this employee id is the primary key. In the same scope I invoke this DB Adapter PL twice and for the first invoke it went fine but for the second invoke it has thrown me a unique constraint exception (as again I am passing the same data). I am catching the exception with a catch all block which is working absolutely fine.
The problem is in the table I am getting the data entry for the first invoke which should have roll backed as i am using the *'transaction=participate'* property and respective changes have been done in bpel.xml for supporting the transaction.
There should be no entry in the table but yet I am getting it. Please help me.
Where could I have gone wrong?????
I am using BPEL-10.1.3.1 version.

There are two mechanisms to force a rollback from a BPEL process.
Explicitly — throw a bpelx:rollback fault within your flow:

Invoke a partner link that marks the JTA transaction for rollback only.
For example, in Oracle SOA Suite for 10.1.3.1.0, if Oracle BPEL Process Manager invokes an Oracle Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) flow that in turn fails to call a Web service endpoint, the JTA transaction is marked for rollback. Since the Oracle ESB flow enlists its local transaction in the JTA transaction, a rollback on the JTA transaction impacts Oracle BPEL Process Manager's ability to dehydrate (as the JTA transaction is used by Oracle BPEL Process Manager for persistence).

Oracle 9i and Oracle 10g transaction log shipping

Hi,
We have Oracle 9i and we use the transaction log shipping mechanism to transport our transaction log files to our DR site. We then import these against the database at the remote site.
Our telecomms infrastructure is pretty limited so this is a manual process.
We are looking at upgrading to 10G. I believe that with 10g you have to use dataguard, or is there a way to mimic the behavior of 9i that would allow us to transport and apply the transaction logs manually?

You can try setting the SGA to a low value and bring up both the databases. I don't think it should be too slow provided you are not running other windows programs.
If you are really interested in trying out new products you can also explore the option of installing VMware, creating virtual machines & installing Linux, and then playing with the different Oracle products. Doing this will at least keep your main windows operating system clean.

AR - How to Complete and Incomplete a Transaction

Hi,
We have a requirement, where after a transaction is created by AutoInvoice, we want to make the Transaction Incomplete, so that it cannot be posted to GL. Send the Transaction for some approval and once approval is obtained, make the Transaction complete, so that the normal Transaction process can continue.
We could not find any API to make a Transaction Complete or Incomplete. Can somebody suggest how to achieve this?

I tryied to use in the client the statement EntityTransaction transaction = myBean.getTransact(); but I receive the EJBException: Cannot use resource level transactions with a container managed EntityManager
I just need to start a transaction something like this: transaction.begin(); and finish the transaction, something like this: transaction.commit();

Distributed Transaction Processing Services in Oracle RAC 11.2

Do we have to set the DTP parameter to TRUE for workload services that are going to be used for distributed transaction processing?
Something like this ...
srvctl modify service -d crm -s xa_01.service.us.oracle.com -x TRUE
Oracle 11.2 document is not very clear on this requirement. At one stage it says...
"Tightly coupled XA transactions no longer require the special type of singleton services (that is, Oracle Distributed Transaction Processing (DTP) services) to be deployed on Oracle RAC database. XA transactions are transparently supported on Oracle RAC databases with any type of services configuration."
But at the end of the same section...
"An external transaction manager, such as OraMTS, coordinates DTP/XA transactions. However, an internal Oracle transaction manager coordinates distributed SQL transactions. Both DTP/XA and distributed SQL transactions must use the DTP service in Oracle RAC."
So do we have to use DTP services with RAC or not?

I have some critical applications using Tuxedo on 10gR1/R2 RAC databases and there is no doubt to have with this versions.
Starting with 11gR1 it seems the main limitation is over...but there are still limitations ! To be honest I will keep the DTP parameter to true after the migration in 11.2 to avoid any problem. It is still recommended even if not mandatory :
To provide improved application performance with distributed transaction processing in Oracle RAC, you may want to take advantage of DTP services. Using DTP services, you can direct all branches of a distributed transaction to a single instance in the cluster. To load balance across the cluster, it is better to have several groups of smaller application servers with each group directing its transactions to a single service, or set of services, than to have one or two larger application servers.

Can I have no transaction processing with esql (proc)?

I'm using embedded sql (via proc) and am trying to use the database without transaction processing. I am porting an application from Informix and this is possible with Informix . Is there some way to tell Oracle to autocommit or to turn off transaction processing?

This problem relates to the Microsoft SQLServer, the server has decided to decline the request from that instance due to an internal deadlock issue. Your instances request was arbitrarily chosen as the one to terminate. So the SQLServer sent an error status back that would have been passed on thru the ODBC bridge to the JVM and then to your application.
How you want to handle this event within your app is up to you.

40655SQL error forced rollback: clear form and re-enter transaction

Hello ,
I have ORACLE 10G & Forms 6i on Windows server 2008 . When I open the forms for some work , it give me error in few minis.
FRM-40655: SQL error forced rollback: clear form and re-enter transaction.
I have not done anything unusual in form design. it was working properly from a long time.
Yesterday i set the default profile to idle_time = 20. Will that make any problem ???
I checked my Alert Log but no sign of any deadlock in it, or any other unusual activity ....
What is the solution ???

I would like to tell some more details here.
Previously i wanted to set an IDLE_TIME limit of 20 mins for all users in the DEFAULT profile.
So i did the process for the same...
I set the resource_limit parameter to true & then altered the default profile's idle_time to 20.
soon after that all the users who were accessing the database got this error while working ....
SQL error forced rollback: clear form and re-enter transaction.
In our case one user is opened & accessed by many people.
for ex - a user called UERP is open at Machine1 & also at Machine2. So at a time a single user can be opened at multiple sessions.
can this be the problem for forced rollback ???
My basic need is , i want to set the IDLE_TIME to 20 min but users should not face forced rollback error ????
what should i do ???
