Coldfusion & PHP Site Possible?

I've been building a site with a small gallery in a MYSqul
database, using PHP in Dreamweaver CS3. I'm now wanting to add
credit card acceptance (via a donations page) and I'm thinking of
buying Cartweaver to help me out. I know Cartweaver supports PHP,
besides Coldfusion, but most of the Cartweaver educational training
I've found is Coldfusion.
Is it possible to build a Dreamweaver site using PHP and
Coldfusion? I'm confused about the possibility of using two server
technologies in one site.??? In Dreamweaver's Site Definition, it
appears as if only server technology can be selected. Is that true?
And, if so, is there any way around this?

You can have PHP and CF running on the same box. Install CF
as you normally would and then go in and install PHP (or vice
versa, doesn't matter).
Your httpd will route cfml pages to CF and php pages to PHP.
Works great.
Not sure how you'd deal with DW though.

  • Problems setting up testing server CS5 with existing PhP site copied to hard drive

    A couple of years ago I dabbled in CS3 & PhP, but haven't touched it since 2009.  I still have WAMP loaded on my machines.  I'm now in a work situation where I was asked to see if I could make some simple copy updates to sites written in PhP.  I copied the entire sites over to my hard drive, and placed them in the WAMP www root folder, and followed instructions to setting up the site in CS5 (which is pretty close to the CS3 setup).  I made sure WAMP was running, and I'm still unable to connect. I am using "localhost" as part of the URL for the web server designation. I continue to get an "internal server error" message on these pages.  I am able to, from my browser, type in "http:localhost" and it appears that WAMP is running properly. And I do remember to start WAMP before I start a DW session.
    So, I kept experimenting.  If I define a new PhP site and create a test document with simple PhP code, the connection to the testing server works and renders the code.  It's just the existing PhP site I've copied over generates the Internal server message.
    Is there something basic I'm not understanding about viewing and manipulating a PhP site created by someone else using DW CS5?

    The first question: on what platform? Windows - Mac?
    I only succeeded in setting up a testing server on my Mac
    with PHP and MySQL after reading a book of David Powers. On Leopard
    I belief there still are problems connecting PHP to MySQL.

  • Using BufferedReader to get Unicode data from a .php site

    Hi,
    Probably a rather mundane question. I'm working on an applet which uses a .php site as a proxy to get at data found in a mySQL database. It's working adequately for text consisting of standard English characters only - the only problem is that every time I read in a file, it starts with the characters ""
    It's not working at all for text using other characters - I get an incomprehensible string of characters in Java when I try that.
    So my assumption is that Java does not understand that my php document is in Unicode, and is trying to read it using a different encoding system. I use unicode charaters elsewhere in this applet and have no problems with them, so I am assumign it must be an I/O error.
    What do I have to do to make Java realize that this is unicode?
    Here's the relevant code as it is now:
    String goTo = "http://[...]/info.php?search=" + toLink(search);
    URL test = new URL(goTo);
    URLConnection testConnection = test.openConnection();
    BufferedReader dis = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(testConnection.getInputStream()));
    String inputLine;
    while ((inputLine = dis.readLine()) != null) {
                    giveout += inputLine;
    dis.close();The String giveout should have all the data from the document in it after this.
    Or do I need to change something about my php, which, as it is now, just displays the data from my database, with no HTML tags whatsoever?

    You probably have a 'byte order marker' ( BOM ) at the beginning of the file. You can use my BOMStripperInputStream posted in reply #7 of http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5310966 or you can just discard the BOM bytes from the InputStream before wrapping it in the BufferedReader.
    Hi Sabre im facin the same probem.
    bufferedReader = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(new FileInputStream("C:/Documents and Settings/Administrator/Desktop/UTF8RDFiles/Example.txt"),"UTF-8"));
    bufferedReader.readLine() returns a junk character ? at the beginning of the line.
    you have instructed to use your BOMStripperInputStream posted in reply #7 of http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5310966 but i dotn know how to use it with bufferedReader because i want my method to return only a BufferedReader object.
    can you suggest me how to go about it.
    my code is as below need help.
    public BufferedReader check(){
                     bufferedReader = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(new FileInputStream("C:/Documents and Settings/Administrator/Desktop/UTF8RDFiles/Example.txt"),"UTF-8"));
            return bufferedReader; // need to return bufferedReader object only...since some other code needs bufferedReader ...suggest me.
    i will be highly obliged if you paste the refined code.. please need your urgent help on this...

  • Using DS3 or DW8 to edit php site files in design mode

    Thanks in advance.
    Kinda new to Dreamweaver and website design. Have a site
    being designed in .php. I have downloaded the site folder, access
    it in DW, but only Code Mode. Is there any way that I can access
    the Design code mode to work with it as a php file.
    Do I, can I save it as a web page/html, access it, make
    changes, then save it again as php?
    Or will I need to deconstruct, cut and paste together back
    into the original php file?
    This is very important as I will need to constantly update
    and add content every day and I want to use the $$ DS3 Adobe suite
    to work with the php based oscommerce site being built for me.
    Unfortunately, my site developer has no experience with any
    Dreamweaver software and is not exactly eager to find answers.
    So, with great appreciation, I am hoping that someone can
    lead me in the right direction. Too much wasted time and energy
    just to find out a yes/no or how and how hard answer to this
    question.
    Peace,
    stress-freeliving

    Gary,
    While a novice to using dreamweaver or coding a website in
    general, I am not an idiot or a novice to the art and structure of
    computer, i.e., software programming. I have a degree in
    engineering; in the day, I programmed in fortran and associated
    languages.
    So, what I have been discussing this entire thread and my
    overall concern is that I want to change content pages and use a
    software package such that it will not interfere with the php
    coding of the pages and associated function of the site. Are all
    end users required to know code to add content -- if so, we would
    have millions of programmers to handle the millions of websites.
    What I want to be is an end user who can efficiently add
    content to his site. I don't want to have to learn how to use php
    instead of continuing to research and learning on other subjects
    that I wish to share; specifically, the workings of the brain, how
    to learn, how stress and sleep affect our lifestyles and what we
    need to do to overcome our natural tendencies towards our/my type
    'A' behavior. I have spent approximately 20 hours trying to dig
    through this the last 3 days, including a few hours associated to
    forums without any answers, even though there have been some very
    helpful people spending their time trying to understand my
    predicament.
    So, I don't want to have someone design a website, primarily
    a site that is information and content based albeit with ecommerce
    functions that will require me to dig into or learn what the php
    code for bold this statement, or make this a header, or insert
    image here, define this text box with these parameters, etc., then
    take the time to insert those specific codes in articles that I
    have already written in a word document that should be able to cut
    and paste and post effectively and efficiently in the average
    website or blog. Is that unreasonable?
    All I wanted to know is can I or how can I use the built in
    coding tools in Dreamweaver in this (my opinion not the css,html
    site I paid for) php designed site and upload it without wreaking
    havoc on the system -- irrespective and outside of catalog listings
    which should not have anything to do with pure content based pages.
    Am I wrong to think that in the design of a site, that templates
    for content pages and even the index page could be designed in html
    and leave the database functions to the php?
    The problem is that every page has a php extension. Am I
    wrong to think that this ecommerce site could have been designed
    with css and html that would have integrated somewhat seemlessly
    with the $2000 software package???
    Wisdom is trying to find the people that know more than you
    do on a subject, hopefully experts, and ask them the questions in
    the right mode to get an answer such that you can continue
    proceeding on the same path or come up with a better plan. That is
    what I have been trying to do.
    So, as an expert in dreamweaver and ecommerce sites: can you
    use non php based programming? Can someone design a site in
    dreamweaver using OsCommerce such that an intermediate end user of
    the dw can add content using the systems tools and not screw up the
    structure of the site -- and do so without having to dig into the
    page code every step of the way?
    And, yes, I have googled the subject and looked through
    OsCommerce instructions, help pages, etc.., to no avail.
    It seems that I will take what has been made, complete the
    project, then find some other way to efficiently and effectively
    produce an ongoing dynamic content site that will sell some things
    on the side.
    I am trying very hard to communicate effectively with my
    designer and maintain a positive, forward-thinking mode to create a
    workaround to his design mode to allow me to effectively,
    efficiently and without harm add to the site without having to type
    a backslash in front of every daggone apostrophe or actually
    <br> every carriage return in the 100+ articles I have
    already written.
    Can I create an html document in dreamweaver then upload it
    to the php site? I was told that I needed to then give it a php
    extension for it to work. What is involved in this?
    Dreamweaver supposedly handles php files? How? Just like
    Notepad or any other text editor -- without any of the Tools or
    functionss?
    And, how can I make changes to the index.php file? This is
    FAR from a process that I envisioned when my site definition for
    contract said: "Css based, 3 column design for content and
    ecommerce that user will add content on continuous basis using
    dreamweaver".
    As you can tell. This is not what I got.

  • Migrate php site to BC

    Hey team,
    We've been given an opportunity to take over the administration of an existing site but want to know what  steps we need to take to succesfully migrate the php site over to BC.
    It's a very basic site but it does have one form page.
    Thanks
    Paul

    A bit more info on sucking in PHP sites and replicating them in BC.
    I have done a couple of php sites myself, and I find that they have a weird structure with each page in its own folder. I don't think that could be good for SEO somehow.
    Overall the sites replication from PHP to BC have gone well. On one of them, I tried to rename the css file and it fell over. If I kept the CSS file the same name (which was just a bunch of numbers) it worked. Why I don't know.
    As I said before mapping the sucked down site in DW and editing there is the go, as it is so clever about updating everything when you move it around.
    I always keep a full copy of the original download in case I go too far with moving things around. Then I play with another full copy in DW.
    Don't forget that DW tells a few little lies about how things are displaying, so upload to the BC test site regularly to check if you really have a problem with anything.
    BC used to have a site replication and suck in tool that was a lot like HTTrack. I sucked down a site using the DW site replicator and also HTTrack and they pretty much did the same thing. Now that BC site replicate functionality is no longer available, so HTTrack is the go.
    As far as database etc goes, you will be using BC CRM so you could get data out and upload as I said.
    Good luck!

  • Hosting a local PHP site

    Hi
    After a bit of website help running a website from my mac.
    I can access a local website on my mac if its in the sites folder
    @http://10.0.1.???/~??????/ this is a index.html file
    But can I do the same with a php site?
    If i place the php site in this folder I get the source of the index.php
    how do i access the index php website?

    Hello Ozewolf:
    In order to view webpages (locally) you must set up a "root" directory for them.
    I created a directory called "/Volumes/Mac Data2/Kj's Data/www"
    Then I started MAMP, The MAMP window pops up, selected the "preferences..." button,
    selected "Apache", a little window opens, I dragged and dropped the "/Volumes/Mac Data2/Kj's
    Data/www" folder in the little window and pressed the select button to save it.
    That's all there is to it!
    Now for each website you wish to work on, put a new folder in the "www" directory and give it
    a new name.
    I put a folder in the www directory called "becausewelovehim.com" inside that folder I put html
    files. The first file inside the folder a web server looks for is a file named "index".
    In my case this url entered into my browser will display my index file:
    http://127.0.0.1:8888/becausewelovehim.com/index.php
    the file resides on my machine as:
    "/Volumes/Mac Data2/Kj's Data/www/becausewelovehim.com/index.php
    I have all the setup info mirrored in Dreamweaver so it works seamlessly with my
    MAMP server so I can view pages in real time as I build them. When They are finished,
    I upload them to the hosting provider web server.

  • Xhtml in a php site

    Hi
    I want to make a site with php elements connectet to MySQL,
    but I would also like to use Dreamweavers great abillity to write
    xhtml codes in stead of just html. How do I do that? Can I start by
    making a new php page and then choose xhtml somewhere or must I
    start by making a new xhtml page and then ad the php elements? But
    if that's the case, does the server still understand that it's a
    php site that is running?

    In Dreamweaver Preferences, set Default Document Type (DTD)
    in the New
    Document category to XHTML. When you create a new page,
    select PHP as
    its type. It's the .php filename extension that tells the
    server to
    treat the page as PHP. The DTD setting tells Dreamweaver
    whether to use
    HTML or XHTML code.

This is the first php site i have created and I dont really know where to start to get it up and running now.

  • Check in check out in Dreamweaver CS5 with php site

    I created a new site for a client that has about 160 pages, three user login levels, site security, php, forms, . . . The client has a staff member who will make updates to pages with changing content but now wants access to the entire site so she can change wording on other pages as well - she's their new communications coordinator and it certainly makes sense to me. But I'm worry about giving her access to the entire site - I've since learned about check in and check out in Dreamweaver. Since I can't just throw pages in a directory for her to access via ftp (have set that up for one staff member creating gis maps), I'm wondering if this check in check out option is the better way to go for us.
    She will use Dreamweaver, like me. Although we do not share the same office or have access to the same network. The only sharing we can do is on our hosting services server. Can I "check out" files I need her to leave alone and leave them that way? That way she'll have access to all of the primary content pages, not the scripts, css, includes, admin, js, bin, etc files. It should make life easier for her, too, I think.
    What's common practice for this? And how does synchronization fit in?

    Digital Ink LLC wrote:

    This situation really needs a proper Content Management System (CMS): Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal, Expression Engine all come to mind.
    She's a content contributor, you're the system admin. She needs a bulletproof browser-based editing environment to do her thing without worrying about anything else.
    Down the track, she'll probably want repeat content that she can control on different pages, content expiry, scheduled content, categories, tags, sidebars, headlines: all standard CMS features.
    Using Dreamweaver and Check In/Check Out is just going to create one issue after another.
    The current solution was probably adequate in the past but it's reaching the limits of its scalability. It's really time for a new solution.
    Have you considered a CMS?

    Greetings! I accidentally deleted my site definition in DW CS4 and now can't remember how to define the url of the site's root folder. • Dreamweaver 8 with ASP, Coldfusion, & PHP

    I am new to php and I am trying to work thru Dreamweaver 8
    with ASP, Coldfusion and PHP Training from the Source. I have a
    real simple form. A user enters their first and last name then
    clicks the submit button. The form is then processed with a script
    using $_GET[first_name]; $_GET[last_name]; and it should display
    "Thank you, first_name last_name, for using my form." But the page
    show the html with a Notice: Undefined index: first_name in
    C:\htdocs\newland\test_form_processor.php on line 9. Line nine is -
    <p>Thank you, <?php echo $_GET['first_name']; ?>
    <?php echo $_GET['last_name']; ?>, for filling out my
    form.</p>. This was accomplished using the binding panel in
    DW. There is not any kind of trouble shooting in the book. Can
    someone tell me what this means? It worked like it is supposed to
    work when I had just the first name.

    I don't have a copy of that book. I wrote my own instead. ;-)

    It means that the first_name variable isn't being passed from
    the form.
    PHP is case-sensitive. Your form needs to look something like
    this:
    <form name="form1" id="form1" method="get"
    action="test_form_processor.php">
    <p>First name: <input type="text" name="first_name"
    id="first_name" /></p>
    <p>Last name: <input type="text" name="last_name"
    id="last_name" /></p>
    <input type="submit" name="submit1" id="submit1"
    value="Send" />
    </form>
