Collector Emitter Saturation Voltage on Output of NI 6515

The outputs on the NI PXI-6515 are an open collector with a Darlington pair transistor. In my application the emitter is tied to ground and a 10k resistor is tied between the collector and +5VDC. A measurement is taken at the collector to determine Hi or Low (TTL values).
NI does not publish the collector emitter voltage on their darlington transistor outputs on the NI 6515 when it is fully saturated. What is the full saturation current and what is the full saturation collector emitter voltage?
Thanks
Mike

  • Ideal 3T opamp saturation voltage always 15V.

I'm a newbie. Using a basic 3T Ideal Opamp as a comparator. The output voltage always seems to be +/-15V. I know I can use a 5T opamp if I want, but I want to understand why it is always +/-15V. If I edit the model to set VPos and VNeg to something else (e.g. 20V, or 12V) it doesn't make any difference to the output.
Is there some way to change the saturation voltage of a 3T ideal opamp?

    anynick,
    Not a problem.
Just to clarify for the other users: the virtual three terminal ('3T') opamp model is unbounded from a voltage rail standpoint, so you can happily have infinite gain and Vout > Vsupplies.
On a similar note and a word of caution:  For real parts (by mfg p/n), some of the older 'legacy' models are of the 3T variety (so caution even if they have 5 or more terminal pins), but most of the modern opamp models will have 5 terminals that include modeling for the positive and negative supplies.
The best way to know which model you are using is to check:
    1. Double click on the placed symbol and click 'Edit model' -> check the .subckt header (if only 3 pins are noted after the model name, its a 3T opamp.
    2. When browsing via the 'Select a Component' dialog, click on the 'View model' buton and check the same.
Here is an example showing why you should be cautious (in v11 for the benefit of both v11 and v12 users).  In this case note the AD380 model was done in v4 of Multisim and is of the 'IIT' variety.

    Hi,
I have many votage channels with personnal's scales.
I would like to know if it's possible to detect a input saturation (voltage out of  range, +10/-10V for exemple), directly in the acquisition channel.
I can do reverse scale to know the voltage value but I would like to know if there is a automatic flag in the channel.

  • How do I output the smoothest video when changing or mixing frame rates from the original footage?

I have been experimenting with various Media Encoder settings, and wondered if there was anything else I can try to get the smoothest video output possible, especially when changing frame rate and possibly resolution.  For clarification, let me start from the beginning and explain what I'm doing and what I've tried so far.  I'll try to be as brief as possible, but if I do go into too much detail, I apologize.
My original footage is AVCHD 1080p - 60fps.  (my camera only does 60fps...specifically 59.94fps)  We're not talking interlaced video here, I'm staying away from that.  This is definitely full frame, progressive video at 60 frames (not fields) per second.  My output will ultimately be for the web.  I have been keeping my output codec (H.264) and bit-rate (VBR 2-pass, relatively high-bitrate) consistent, and have been trying numerous output options and even sequence settings to see what would yield the best results.  I am using Premiere Pro CS5.5 along with Media Encoder.  Here's what I've done and the results I've observed:
    1.  I created a sequence with 1080p - 59.94fps settings to match my original footage.  I then output both 1080p and 720p versions at 59.94fps, and at 29.97fps.  The 59.94fps output files looked absolutely great, as would be expected.  Extremely smooth.  The 29.97fps output files were generally smooth, but not near as smooth as the 59.94fps.  This is expected since it's half the frame rate as my original footage.  However, my question is this:  What exactly is Media Encoder doing when "down converting" from 60p to 30p?  From a technical stand point, is it dropping every other frame?  I'm just curious to understand exactly what it does.  I tried the Frame Blending option as well, and that only yielded a bit more blur to the images which wasn't desirable for any of the output files.
    2.  Just to see what would happen, I created a sequence with 1080p - 29.97 settings.  I then output both 1080p and 720p versions at 29.97fps.  The video was much more choppy in these cases, even with Frame Blending on.  Now, I know not matching my sequence settings with my original media isn't ideal, but I again just want to understand why this yields less smooth video than the 29.97fps options above.  Why does cutting the sequence settings frame rate in half from the original, then outputting the same frame rate as the sequence yield video that is not as smooth?
    3.  Next, I wanted to try mixing frame rates to see how Premiere and Media Encoder handled the footage and output files.  Premiere handled it great, no issues there.  However, I had some interesting things happen when I output the files.  Here's what I did:  I created a sequence with 1080p - 59.94fps to match my original footage.  Then I took the same exact footage that was in my sequence, copied it in my project panel and interpreted it at both 23.976 and 29.97 fps, yielding slow motion video.  The slow motion video looked great in Premiere, so I went ahead and just added it to my sequences, along with the original 59.94 footage.  I also created separate sequences for the 29.97 and 23.976 footage respectively, each with matching sequence settings, then added a nested sequence to another original footage sequence (with 59.94fps sequence settings) to see which yielded the best results.  Basically, I'm trying to output 59.94fps that match my original footage, but also throw in some slow motion footage at different framerates.  I'll explain my results in a moment as they are a bit convoluted, however, here is my question:  When mixing frame rates and trying to output the smoothest video, am I going about this the right way?  I would assume you would use your sequence settings that match the original footage (which is what the majority of the footage will be), then bring in a nested sequence for the slow motion (as oppose to just dropping the slow motion video directly into my main sequence), and then output to the same frame rate of the majority of the footage, in this case 59.94fps. Is there a better workflow for this?
The results to #3 above were as follows.  Initially, it looked like it didn't matter if I nested the slow motion sequence into my main sequence, or simply dropped the actual slow motion video into my original 59.94fps sequence.  It seemed to produce smooth results either way.  Frame Blending blurred the video a bit, but didn't seem to make much difference, and quite honestly I like the footage without Frame Blending in general.  However, when I closed down Premiere, and opened the output files later (opening in Quicktime), the footage looked choppy.  In fact, it would go from choppy to smooth and back, almost like it had an irregular cadence (don't know if I'm using "cadence" in the right context here).  I would then open up Premiere again, import the output footage into my project panel, and play the footage in Premiere, and it would play back smooth again. Is this a Quicktime issue?  I was playing 1080p 59.94fps files when this happened, so maybe it's just because it's a large file.  Doesn't seem to have issues with the 720p files I created.  But it sure threw me off with my testing because I then started second guessing the settings I was using.  My iMac is the latest 2011 model with plenty of RAM, so I wouldn't think it's the computer.  Thoughts?
    4.  Next, I noticed on ALL my output files (again, using the H.264 codec from Media Encoder) that the color of my video seemed to flatten quite a bit.  It seems that the original footage has more contrast and saturation than the output files.  I figured maybe this was just how it was, but when I re-imported the output files back into Premiere, they looked IDENTICAL to the original footage.  And in Media Encoder's Source/Output windows, I don't see any difference there either. Is Quicktime again the culprit here, doing some odd things to the color of my videos?
    5.  Regarding Frame Blending, when is the best situation to enable this option in Media Encoder?  I've read it is when mixing frame rates, but I honestly didn't see too much of a change except for a bit more blur, which I didn't care for.
    6.  Lastly, my conclusion is that 60fps yields the smoothest video, which is an obvious conclusion.  However, I know that 60fps isn't the best or easiet frame rate for web delivery.  It seems 30p is more the standard.  Are there any integrated web players that would play 60fps?  Can you get 60fps video on YouTube/Vimeo?  If yes to any of these questions, can they do 720p and 1080p at 60fps?
Those are all my questions.  I hope I am clear enough without being overly wordy and hopefully I didn't put too many questions into one post.  Thanks in advance for any insight, I really appreciate it.

Did you ever figure out which output worked the best? I have the same original footage; trying to determine the best output settings to make a dvd for tv.
    thanks!

  • Is there any small program to check o/p voltage and waveform generation when i/p is thermocouple o/p

I have purchased pci 6024e DAQ and I want to check the card with using thermocouple and with the help of Visual Basic 6.
    Please help

The best way to check to make sure your Data Acquisition (DAQ) board or card is working is to run Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX). From MAX, you can make sure that the card has computer resources assigned to it and also read any channel and display the voltage on the screen. You may also output a voltage (if your board has analog output capability) from MAX.
I would suggest running MAX, connecting up the thermocouple to the card, and reading the voltage reported by MAX to make sure the voltage reported is correct. To check the analog output, I would connect the analog output to an analog input channel and make sure whatever voltage is output is also read in correctly.
Once the board is working correctly in MAX, you can begin development with Visual Basic. You
can use the standard NI-DAQ function calls, or, for faster, easier development, consider using the ComponentWorks for VisualBasic software. See www.ni.com/products and look for Measurement Studio for more information about ComponentWorks.
You can find more about MAX at www.ni.com/support/daq. This page covers installation problems, but also shows how to test the functionality of the card with MAX.

  • 2 inputs and 1 output.

    Hi all,
    This is my first post.
    I use an arduino 1 board to read 2 (x & y) analog signals.
I would like to command 1 pwm output on the bases of the 2 analog signals.
The idea is create a table 3x3 in wich x and y axes are based on the values of the analog signals and the output is the pwm output.
I have tried in several modes but no succes.
    Can someone help me?
    Thanks a lot in advance

    thanks for the reply.
I woul like to realize a simple PWM controller. I made the same writing the SW in C and it was working, but no flexible and without a graphical interface.
    Well...
    inputs:
Two analog signals; range  0-5V f(t).It could vary very fast in the time. I use two simple potentiometers to simulate the voltage variations.
    output:
    PWM: range 0 - 255. connected to a led.
I woul like to have the possibility to change the PWM with a table m X n where m is related to input 1 and n is related to input 2.
I will post the the SW tried by me as soon as possible. Now... dinner!
    thanks all and best regards!

  • How to control a 1hp motor using input from battery voltages

I'm brainstorming ideas on how to control a motor based on an input from battery voltages. The idea is to monitor battery voltages and output ideal motor speed in order to get maximum effieciency for a specified period of time. The batteries will be recharged with solar panels while the motor is running, so I was hoping to use lab view to get rid of any human calculations or throttle controls to optimize performance. The problem is that I'm not sure if the labview equipment is powerful enough to control a motor of that size.

check out this link. i had similar problem but with a less power motors, but this idea should work. NI hardware can support upto 1.6 HP if you configure appropriately

  • Adding 2 ADXL335 accelerometers to NI 6009 DAQ. Conversion from voltage to acceleration.

    Hello,
I am working on a continuous data acquistion project using 2 ADXL335 accelerometers with the NI 6009 DAQ. Ideally, I would like to measure them as differential, but there are only 4 differential ports on the 6009, so I would be 2 axis short. Since there are 6 axis I am looking to measure, I have set each axis as an RSE port a0-A5.I am working with Visual C++ and coding in C. I have been working with the VC_TDMS_ContAcq_IntClk  example code to export the data to an excel spreadsheet, which works fine. However, since the DAQ cannot read the ADXL335 device as an accelerometer, I have each axis set as a voltage source. Therefore, my exported data to Microsoft Excel are data points that are voltage (v) and not acceleration (g). My voltage data points for each axis at rest with no vibration vary anywhere from 1.3 - 1.9 (see attached). a0 = X1, a1 = Y1, a2 = Z2, a3 = X2, a4 = Y2, a5 = Z2.
I have been trying to figure out how to scale the voltage to output acceleration. Max sensitivity for each axis is 330 mV/g. The analog outputs for the accelerometer is 3.3V. Zero g bias output is 3.3V/2 = 1.65 V. It is +- 3g analog out so -3g is at 0V and 3g is at 3.3V with full scaling in between.
I tried setting up a voltage task, with signal input range min = 0, max = 3.3V. Terminal configuration = RSE. The part I question is my custom scaling. I chose a Linear scale with a slope of 3.03 (since 1/330 mV/g = 3.03). I click run and I get data that is roughly 5 (see attached).  Any help would be appreciated.

You should decouple /filter the supply and analog output voltages (analog) and you should use some digital filtering...
If you look at fig.1 of the ADXL335 datasheet , what values did you use for the capacities? How close is the C_DC to the MEMS ?
What is the maximum frequency you want to measure?
How did you provide the power to the sensor, how did you exactly connect the sensor (all used wires and shields)
Since these sensors provide  DC  signals, you can easily 'calibrate' your sensors by measuring the output voltage for each axis at -1g and +1g , the rest is simple math
and keep in mind that the sensitivity has a range (so try to calibrate) and is ratiometric to the supply voltage  ...
And keep in mind that you have an offset at the output voltage, so your scaled value of 5 makes sense

  • Saturation problem with 741 models

Whenever I saturate a 741 op-amp by exceeding the limit of its positive supply voltage, the output saturates to the negative supply voltage.
For example, if I construct a voltage follower with +/- 15 V supplies and an input of +20 V, the output is (roughly) -15 V, not +15 V.
    This occurs with a variety of 741 op-amp models, such as LM741*, UA741*, 741, and Op-Amp_741.
I saw similar problems with a few other op-amp families I tried.
Is this a known limitation of these models in Multisim, or am I doing something incorrectly?
See the attached file for an example.

    Hi,
This problem may be due to JFET inversion. Some opamps, especially JFET opamps, exhibit this behaviour. When the output is expected to exceed some positive threshold, the output inverts to the negative rail. If you hooked up a JFET opamp in a real circuit, you will see this behaviour. So, this may have to do with the opamp model that you are using. If this is not the behaviour that you expect (i.e. not what you observe in a benchtop setup), my best suggestion is to substitute your simulation opamp for another one that is similar in performance, but does not exhibit the same output inversion.
Take a look at this page by Analog Devices. This phenomena is outlined in the section labeled "What other features of op amps should the user know about?".
    Hope that helps.
I don't think it is the "phase inversion" problem described in the first paragraph of the aforementioned section.  I don't think the 741 is a JFET or the common-mode input is too negative.
However, it does seem to be consistent with the "more serious form of latchup" described in the second paragraph.  The issue occurs when the input exceeds the rail voltage by ~0.6 V, which could be turning on some internal diodes.  The page suggests that this would destroy a real op-amp.  In simulation, the op-amp wouldn't be destroyed, but it might show erratic behavior when Vin > Vrail.
Does this make sense to anyone else?  I'll try to remember to test this with a real op-amp next week.

  • Synchronization of two analogue DAQmx outputs, error -89131

I am trying to synchronize two analogue waveform outputs.  I can run and observe both channels  in isolation but cannot work out how to run both at the same time.  I'm a novice Labview user.
    My system contains the following:
    Labview 2012
    Windows 7
    PCI-6035 DAQ card
I've attempted to write code configured as MASTER/SLAVE, an error occurs when the code attempts to write the waveform to the SLAVE output (DAQmx Write), error code -89131
Any help would be much appreciated
    Thanks
    Duncan

    Hi Duncan,
For most DAQ devices, only one hardware timed task per subsystem (i.e. analog input, analog output, digital input/ouput, ...) can run at once.  Each subsystem has its own dedicated timing and triggering circuitry, and your code has two separate AO tasks trying to configure the AO subsystem's resources simultaneously.  After the resources are configured the first time, the second task notices that they're already being used, and it tosses you an error indicating as much.
In order to configure multiple AO channels on a single device, you need to include both (or all) of them in a single task.  For your application, since it looks like your channels will be updating at the same rate, this will be fairly straightforward.
Open the Voltage - Continuous Output example that you used as a starting point for your code.
Configure the Physical Channel(s) input -- either in the existing front panel control or as a block diagram constant -- to include both channels.  You can use the dropdown, select Browse, and Ctrl-click multiple channels or you can simply type Dev1/ao0:1 into the field.
Now that the task contains two channels, it expects you to define two waveforms to write to the output.  In the example, all you have to do is initialize a second element in the Waveform Settings array.  Just increase the array index value to 1 to view the second entry (should be grayed out, at first) and select the Waveform Type, Frequency, or Amplitude for the waveform you want to send out on AO1.
That should get you going.  Let us know if you run into any other hurdles as you develop your DAQ application!

  • Blutooth audio output

I own a HP notebook and I am a mobile DJ.  I was wondering if there is a way for my laptop to output an identical audio signal from 2 locations. My computer is blutooth enabled. I would like it to Send out audio via blutooth & a USB to 3.5mm audio jack dongle. Is this possible? Are there any settings I need to change to acomplish this?    Thanks.

I don't think you can output audio from 2 different devices (e.g: bluetooth and 3.5mm jack) at the same time.
However you could buy a 3.5mm splitter, connect 1 output to a bluetooth emitter and the other output to any device with 3.5mm connector.

I wanted to know how to find the knee voltage from the characteristic curve of a mosfet transistor. ( I am working with experimental data which are not IDEAL )
My inputs are 2 arrays of Voltage and Current
    My approach :
I was hoping to curve fit the initial part of the values onto a quadratic curve : since my input is an array : i will start a loop(counter i ) from 1 - i - n ( size of array ) and fit the values from 1- i in a quadratic curve and find the value of i which has the least value of error.  I used the standard curve fitting tool to do this and generate the mean squared error from that but i am getting a problem from of converting the 2 arrays ( current and voltage ) into one signal which would serve as the input to the curve fitting tool in labview( PLEASE HELP HERE )
    I also wanted to know
    1) is my approach correct
    2) is there any alternative approach
    3) my ultimate aim is to find the mobility factor of the mosfet using the Saturation voltage i generate from this approach (Saturation voltage i am assuming is approx equal to knee voltage )

  • Time measurement when voltage is below a certain amount

In a project for class I built a pendulum that swings through an infrared emitter to a detector. when somethings cuts the beam from the emitter, the voltage drops to virtually zero.  I need to be able to measure how long the voltage was at zero for my project, but can't for the life of me figure out how to do it.  I really would appreciate any help!

i'm using a daq device (i'd have to be in class to tell the exact version).  I'm reading the voltage on a channel I made, and the voltage bounces from 0V to 1.6V when the beam is cut.
one idea i came up with was to setup a comparison where a caution/stop light would light up whenever the voltage was below 1V, and then have something measure how long that light was on, but I could find a vi that could do that.  I'll definitely give that measure pulse width thing a try, cuz I need to hurry up and finish this project already.

Forgot to mention Rec2Evt.map which has the following:
